| body | Well, that was a fun introduction to trading hashtag lol So, it's been 10 months since my last post. I didn't get rekt like most freshmen, but only by pure luck and some quick action based on well-timed advice from some perfectly positioned mentors. I did NOT take a vacation from crypto. I have continued to trade and learn during this bear market. I started this journey during one of the craziest bull markets of all time and it wasn't long before I began thinking "this is too easy". I started researching techniques to survive in a bear market almost immediately. Even with no knowledge of market cycles or any reason to think it might end. I knew there was no such thing as 'easy money' and If I could make $1000/day blindfolded with no knowledge of how charts work, something must be wrong. Almost immediately after I made [this post](https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@idiottrader/what-do-we-do-when-it-all-comes-crashing-down) the market started faltering and things got real tough real fast. I had some rough times being that I was a total noob, but I really dug into learning from the people around me and practicing analysis. To my surprise, I learned that the basics weren't really that difficult. Price action, Support and Resistance and Volume. From there, all the indicators started to make sense and my understanding of the markets begin to take shape. It didn't take long for me to reconsider the immature goal of trying to grow a modest sum into $1M. I'm slightly embarrassed by the attempt, but also heartened to read back through my journal and see how much I've grown and how much I've learned. I have a natural curiosity and love for data analysis and visualization and before long I was pulling data, manipulating it in spreadsheets and experimenting with pine script. At first just to get a better understanding of how traditional indicators worked, then I began trying to visualize some of my own ideas about price action/volume. My main project during the last few months has been a charting system I invented called [Voodoo](https://medium.com/@buenavistacryptoclub/voodoo-an-indicator-developed-by-bvcc-for-identifying-long-term-trends-and-reversals-4ff4df4ef4f8). I've spent a lot of time integrating this spreadsheet with a local python script that allows me to view this interpretation of data on timescales ranging from daily - 5 minute intervals. Additionally, I have made some really great friends during this trip down from $20k and I have managed to transition from one type of meme to another. In my first meme life, I was an idiot newbie high on a raging bull market. After entering my chrysalis and diving deep into my own psyche and objectively analyzing my biggest weaknesses and discovering my strengths I have emerged as a new kind of meme. I am now the guy who thinks he knows enough to help other people in their journey from clueless caterpillars to profitable butterflies. I formed a very close-knit bond with a few traders and over time we recognized a significant gap in the crypto community. We decided to form our own community with a focus on open discussion and education. Over the last few months, we have been developing this community along with some scalable tools and resources and I'm very proud of the result so far. We are called Buena Vista Crypto Club and you can find out more information [here](https://www.buenavistacryptoclub). While our core business model is to grow a flourishing premium community, my pride and joy is our [free telegram group](https://t.me/BVCryptoClub) where we talk about crypto, life and analyze the market together, growing and learning as a group. I have learned a lot from our group members and I have seen people progress from knowing nothing to being competent chartists. All much faster than I was able to. I have been able to help people avoid the same mistakes I made and learn the lessons in a much less brutal way then I did. It is rewarding and fulfilling. I've come through the fire. I'm still here. And I still have my funds. I've discovered who I am as a trader and I am going to start blogging here again. I may talk about charts, our community or my experiences. But one thing I will not be talking about is how much money I am making or losing. I am glad that this information is on the blockchain and immutable. It serves as a time capsule into my past and, I believe, a microcosm of the majority of new traders. If you are frustrated with your journey, know that it is possible to improve. If you know nothing, know that it is possible to learn more than you ever thought possible. All it takes is dedication, research, and a helping hand. :) I will also be dispensing with my tagline.. but my advice remains the same. Don't trade like an idiot! |

I have been able to help people avoid the same mistakes I made and learn the lessons in a much less brutal way then I did. It is rewarding and fulfilling. \n\nI've come through the fire. :) \n\nI will also be dispensing with my tagline.. but my advice remains the same. Don't trade like an idiot!",

| body | I've decided to re-evaluate my strategy as I have been losing quite a bit of money lately. I've redistributed my portfolio into a few coins that I think will have some nice appreciation over the next one or two months. I may put a little extra money in the market to get back to trading after the shell-shock wears off. But I need a break! It turns out that being an idiot is pretty stressful. I want to give a big shout out to the guys over at lunarsatoshi.com they have been really great and friendly. They've helped me identify some of the bigger weaknesses in my trading strategy and I have to have to say it feels good to not be trading alone anymore. I've consolidated my portfolio as seen below based on some tips and calls made by members of the group and their signal bot (who doesn't have a name yet, but I call him botty). I feel pretty good about this and I'm looking forward to a break from the day to day chart watching. Hopefully the bull market will return soon and this idiot can go back to making $200-$1000/day like every other idiot can do in a bull market. :) I'm just not ready for the bears right now. Maybe next time. As to aggressively chasing the million dollar goal? I'm not sure. I'll decide this summer whether or not it is still feasible. I still think it's possible to make a livable wage from trading and I'm coming around the benefits of mid/long term holds on a few primed coins. Thanks for following along and I'll keep you posted! :) |

| body | I decided to exit out of my XRP position with a small loss so that I could jump on the FUN train. I was curious as to what might be causing such a steady pump over a couple of days of this coin and it turned out the entire team was on the ground in Europe as the only cryptocurrency booth at a large gaming/gambling conference. They were obviously raising awareness and people from the conference were getting online and getting into the coin after the event ended each night and that helped drive the price up. I was felt like the cause of this pump was pretty solid and as the conference was 3 days long I decided to jump in. I made a nice little profit on the first run. Then, for reasons that I can not reconstruct now I bought in again as it started to rebound for another go. It took a small dip on me and was starting to get some nice buying pressure to come back up. I didn't have any orders in and was watching the activity to make a decision on my exit. Then everything just stopped. I didn't think anything of it for the first 5 minute candle. Perhaps everyone was just contemplating their next move. But when the second 5 minute candle also didn't move I started refreshing. I checked a few other coins to see that time was frozen. After about 20 minutes the twitter and reddit confirmations started coming in that something was up. I obviously don't have to rehash what happened with Binance, but needless to say I ended up staying up all night until about 4am when trading finally started up again. I knew FUN was going to fall because the whole pump was based on real time interaction by the team at this conference and everything had been interrupted. Binance is the main exchange for the currency, so this pretty much stalled out the coin on every other exchange. I wait for a split second just see what happen, but it started taking pretty quick. Those few seconds of hesitation cost me and instead of getting out with a 5% loss, I got out at 10% (of my entire account). ugh! I know! But I was being responsible, I had very tight margins and was watching it like a hawk with a good risk/reward strategy. I didn't count on getting froze out. I was able to immediately recoup some of it on the excellent XRP pump and I spent today building some small gains in the turbulence. I know it happens, but that was my first major exchange "event". What a night, I fell asleep at a green light today. Remember kids, don't trade like an idiot. But if you do, do it on Binance, they handled everything very professionally and I'm sure their night was a lot worse than mine. Good job guys! |

| body | Well, BQX got that pump I was predicting. Based on the behavior, I am convinced that it was not for the reasons that I thought it would be, so clearly my analysis has a ways to go, but it sure did take a swing up. I got my bags back and then some! Hope someone out there caught this little wave. There is a lot of green over all on the boards today, so I'm hoping for more fertile waters soon. Right now, I am concentrating on slowly building my ETH. I am a little uneasy about the recent proceedings surrounding Tether. For the foreseeable future, I will not be cashing out my ETH. I am legit concerned that if I try to hold in USDT, that the rug will get pulled out. HODLing in ETH and building coins seems a safer bet at this point. Currently trolling around in XRP. I woke up around midnight to use the restroom last night and happened to catch a nice pump. I tried to catch it again today and am currently stuck in the eddy. but there is a lot of buying pressure around the .00096500 mark and if the overall market catches some momentum, I shouldn't have any trouble getting out with a small profit. Unfortunately, because of this I missed all the FUN today. :( What happened there? FUN at the top of the charts with almost 100% gains at the time of this posting. I still haven't ever caught a truly monster wave. Can't wait for my first one, I hope they don't end up getting regulated out of existence. Hang in there, I know I'm trying my best. |

Based on the behavior, I am convinced that it was not for the reasons that I thought it would be, so clearly my analysis has a ways to go, but it sure did take a swing up. I got my bags back and then some! \n\nHope someone out there caught this little wave. \n\n\n\nThere is a lot of green over all on the boards today, so I'm hoping for more fertile waters soon. \n\nCurrently trolling around in XRP. \n\nUnfortunately, because of this I missed all the FUN today. :( What happened there? | body | One of the big bags I'm holding is in a coin called BQX. It currently is trading on HitBit and Binance. I have been watching this coin for a few days and there is some pretty sophisticated and coordinated manipulation going on. There is a large whale that has been forcing price down with impossible sell walls. This is taking place specifically on the BQX/ETH Binance market and it is causing temporary lags in Binance values between the ETH and BTC pairs. It appears that there is some coordination on binance as there are smaller, similarly placed walls that pop up there. However, the price lags up to .50 for about 2 or 3 minutes when these walls go up. Additionally, there is an even more significant gap between the HitBit price and Binance price. This has been going on for about 4 days and for those with some spare resources and access to binance and hitbit, there is a possibility of arbitrage up to $1.00 or more. I also anticipate a pump in the near future as it seems when I have seen this type of false sell wall pressure in the past, it results in the whales consolidating low cost coins on the way down and then participating in an artificially propelled pump of the coin. I'm not sure if they will take it below the .003 ETH level before pumping, but This could be a 100% or 200% pump. Keep in mind, I'm an idiot, but if you happen to make some good trades from this, consider tossing a little ETH my way in case the pump doesn't make it back to the level of my bags at 0x2794bcfa857d0b2686ed22310. Good luck and don't trade like an idiot! |

I'll either recover in the next 30-90 days or lose everything. :( No risk, no reward right? I won't have any reason to post here until things even out or I decide to bag out. Stay tuned. | body | Well, I made some questionable decisions today and ended up losing about $700 all together. Luckily, I'll be out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to trade. $0 days are better than -$ days! Losses are further compounded by ETH's stubbornly slow recovery. I'm basically back where I started and feeling pretty discouraged. I know an ETH recovery will help, but today was pretty brutal. I might actually be an idiot! :( | Balance | Today's Profit | % Today | Avg Daily % | Daily % for $1M | |-----------|----------------|---------|-------------|-----------------| | $5,114.82 | -$669.22 | -13.08% | -0.38% | 1.54% | |

| body | If you have been following this blog, you know that one of my worst days ever was because of a bad read I made on TRX. Although, I swore to stay off the sauce, I still kept TRX on my favorites list just so I could see how right I was to drop out. So far, I have been very happy with my decision as it has continued to fall farther and farther into the abyss. However this morning when I checked it out I noticed a lot of green volume streaming in. Like, a lot. Multiple orders in the 5 and 6 digits. I watched it for awhile and it really seemed to be a building momentum, so I bought in. Then I sold out. But the volume didn't stop, so I bought in again. I really felt the rush and went all in. I know, I know. But this time it paid off! I have no idea what was going on. I never did find anything online that justified the spike. Tron Dogs? It didn't seem to fit the classic profile of a pump and dump as I have seen them so far, But there was a definite turning point where the red took over. It was an impressive run and I caught most of it. I called the top perfect due to a lowering of momentum with consistent volume. However, as I tried to cash out around the 8800 mark, I entered into an epic battle with Binance that consisted of about 45 refreshes, relogins and restarts on 4 different browsers and 2 different computers and an iphone. The iphone app was suddenly not verified and I couldn't get it to verify and no combination of browser or computer could entice the TRX/ETH page to open. And if it did open, it was frozen and I could only watch the value plummet via the browser tab while the window remained unresponsive. I did manage to get out at a reasonable level, but am pretty pissed at Binance for the hiccup. It cost me some pretty serious profits. This seems to be a continuing trend. I have no problem buying into a trade, but as soon as I want to get out, Freezy McFreeze Face shows up. It's a miracle I got out at a profit today considering how long it took me to get a working webpage and how fast the coin dropped. I felt the wind go out of the sails and although there has been a slight upward tilt to TRX since the last drop, it never had the gas again. I noticed similar trends on a few other coins, so maybe it was just an effect of the market getting some juice back into it for a moment today. Due to ETH still being slumped, my balance is fatigued, even though I technically made a substantial profit today. I will stick to my strategy of trying to make positive trades in the alts, building ETH to be realized as gains when it pumps back up to the $1300's. This is also throwing off my daily % and % needed goals. I'm not that great at math, but I hope this will all balance back out once I catch up on ETH. Anyone have these troubles with Binance? WTH, right? Good luck out there and don't trade like an idiot! | Balance | Today's Profit | % Today | Avg Daily % | Daily % for $1M | |---------|----------------|---------|-------------|-----------------| | $5,784 | -$308.14 | -5.63% | 0.32% | 1.50% | |

| body | Well, leaving my funds unattended in ETH Sunday night and Monday was not the best idea. Now, I've totally missed this great opportunity to multiply my funds. Instead, I'm going to have to take a backseat and look for some conservative plays in the alts while I hold onto this big ETH bag. I know that ETH will make its way back up. But whether that means 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years. I don't know. It's going to be tough ride if this is an extended slump. My balance is smashed. So disappointed that I am not able to take advantage of this properly. |

| body | ...And it hasn't worked out so well. Today hasn't been so great, in general. It started off with me really misreading ETH. I bought in at $1300 in the morning and then watched it drop all day long while I tried to find some things to trade. I've been looking at some of these low volume coins for awhile, noticing that they move slow, but tend to stay within consistent ranges, so I pulled the trigger on a few today. SNM had been running about 1/2 day cycles up and down with some decent gains. I noticed it was at the bottom of a cycle and jumped in. It took the slow path down throw the day. There was one spot where I could have got out with ~2% profit, but I didn't take it because I was expecting it to keep rising. In retrospect, I see that I should have got out when one of those long 15 minute candles from the previous cycles didn't appear. Like I mentioned yesterday, I'm still trying to identify that moment that I have missed my trade. It is not always obvious to me. Very thankful for my position-sizing tool, that is helping me manage risk effectively, so I only lose a small % of my total account on a missed trade. the other two slow movers I tried to get into were CDT and MANA. Both of these pretty much stayed stagnant all day, but as of writing, they are still trying to decide if they want to run or not. Both have big upside potential based on their past history. CDT more-so than MANA. My thought with MANA is that it is nearing it's critical base and has previously taken a 100%+ jump from this point. I'd be happy with 20%. CDT gave me a few moments of nervousness through the day as it flirted with my stop loss but now it's been making a slow trudge upwards. I am torn between getting out now or seeing where it goes. My experience with SNM this afternoon tells me I should get out now with my 2% since I haven't seen the long green hour candles, I was expecting. If ETH breaks $1400 tonight, I probably will but right now it is still recovering from it's last cliff dive. I nearly pulled everything and sold out when it hit $1380 earlier and now wish I would have. In fact, I just talked myself into selling CDT and MANA. It's the only way to make sure that they both shoot up 100%, but I don't trust these coins not to slide into oblivion overnight. Also, this is a good opportunity to practice exiting a trade at the point I realize I have missed it. True, either or both of these may still rally like I was forecasting, but it is not happening in the *way* that I expected it to happen and nowhere near the timeline. It has been in ignoring signs like this in the past that have led to me losing money instead of making a small profit. Tonight, I will chose the small profit. Really a disappointing day. The small gains I made did not make up for the hit I took on SNM. I would have been better off holding my funds in ETH and selling at at $1380 earlier. We'll see how ETH does overnight. Perhaps I'll wake up to something nice. I have some work I have to do outside of the office tomorrow, so I won't be trading. I've set my ETH to sell off at $1500, obviously hoping for a new ATH overnight. Balance based off current ETH totals: | Balance | Today's Profit | % Today | Avg Daily % | Daily % for $1M | |----------|----------------|---------|-------------|-----------------| | $7390.04 | $5.83 | 0.08% | 2.16% | 1.41% | |

| body | That's natural. We expect it since short term charts get overbought and such. As long as the highs and lows keep getting higher on an up trend, that's all we can hope for! Clear rejection is at the $1,320 level, which is pretty substantial over the $1,280 rejection level we saw earlier this morning. In addition, prices were higher than prior to the run up and dump where they bottomed at $1,312 and then after the dump they hit $1,314. Everything is still looking good and we're still on the same upward flagpole trend line. If $1,312 breaks that'll be something different. I'll probably set my stop loss right below that. |

| body | So the last couple of days of ETH correction had me thinking. Eventually this market (and the crypto market in general) will take a big bear turn. Then what? Personally, I don't want to be trading ETH pairs when ETH might dive 40% in a day. So, what will I do? I guess I will just trade USDT pairs? Perhaps switch to an exchange that allows for more USD pairs or shorting options. I'm not really that interested in shorting or margins. It seems much too complicated, to be honest. I also don't want to wait passively for that big bear to sneak up on me and eat my lunch. So, no real plan as of yet, but I'm thinking about it and I'm watching some videos and reading up on how to trade in a bear market. Not only will this help me in some of the present day alt-coin markets that have their bear days, but when the inevitable does happen and we enter into a year or two of down-market trends, I want to be ready. I have heard it over and over that any idiot can make money in a bull market. I am proof of that. We need to learn how to survive the Bear too! However, today the bull showed up. Overnight, ETH recovered nicely and just as I was having my first coffee and checking the markets, I decided to sell out my position. I bought in and out a couple of times during the next proceeding waves and had locked my profit in by lunch. If I would have stopped there, I would have been ahead, but I traded a little on the alt-coins. Got my ETH locked up in some slow trades at the point I should have been selling it off and then ended up losing money by the time I was able to off-load it. As always, as soon as I cashed out, the market decided to show me all the signals that I should have stayed in. This is a very annoying trend. I swear if I hold out for a turn around, it will never happen and I will continue to bleed profits. But as soon as I cash out (8/10 times?) the market gets a giant bump or decides to reverse trend. Honestly, I feel like ETH could take a little dive overnight and present a decent entry for the morning. That being said, it will probably reach $5000 tomorrow. I have to be happy with my small daily profits, because I am not meant to ever catch the big train it seems. Here is a picture of my ETH trades which represent most of my gains today. A is was my first sale of the day and that helped consolidate a lot of my smaller gains from the past two days while trading with deflated ETH/alt-coin pairs. Then I bought the first dip perfect, but sold a little early. The RSI was looking healthy, so I bought in again when the bulls CRUSHED a huge wall at $1400. Again, I timed the exit pretty good. I caught the next wave very good as well. But then, I did not get out at B because my funds were tied up in some some slow trades. I should have cashed out for small losses or even on those trades and took this peak, This is where I lost $3-400 on my day. I'm still happy with what I came away with, but who doesn't like an extra $300? At C is where I finally had my ETH back from the alt trades and I decided to buy in again if I was going to wait for another bump anyway. Don't ask how I missed the peak there. I had my stop set for ~$10 too high and I wasn't fast enough to make the decision to sell when it started turning. I was lucky to catch a small rebound and get out with the tiniest of profits on my 2nd buy and a small loss for the one before that, coming out ahead for the day. I call it a win. Stupid, but a win. Today was my first day using the RSI oscillator to try and make decisions beyond "base-cracking" and I had pretty good success. Again, my main problem is identifying when I've missed the trade. This takes a surprising amount of self-awareness to realize when the brain has switched into "hope" mode instead of "observation" mode. I need to become more comfortable with "leaving money on the table" and practicing making quick in the moment decisions when I realize my trade has been missed or the pattern I was expecting did not develop. Every now and then, a pattern will change just because you "will" it too. :) But usually just hoping that the data you see in front of you is not real, does not work. Yet I find myself doing just that more times than I care to admit. These habits are detrimental and I will attempt to curb them, starting tomorrow. I saw a slight decrease in my average daily % needed to reach $1M before the end of the year and a healthy increase in my over all daily % average. Again, this was mostly due to ETH finally coming back up so that I could realize the gains on the deflated ETH I had been trading with. But profit is profit and I'll take it! Remember friends, don't trade like an idiot! | Balance | Today's Profit | Today's % | Average Daily % | Daily % needed to reach 1M | |-----------|----------------|-----------|-----------------|----------------------------| | $7,384.21 | $721.70 | 9.77% | 2.31% | 1.41% | |
