Instead of buying a pack of cigarettes everyday, they just save it and buy Bitcoins at the end of the month. If you lose money then it is no different than buying something junk and forgetting about the loss.\n\nRULE #2: DON’T LOOK AT BITCOIN PRICE EVERYDAY, IT WILL JUST RUIN YOUR DAY\n\nBefore, I used to look at Bitcoin and crypto prices before I go to bed and first thing in the morning and this literally ruined my life. I even have the home screen of my phone filled with widgets of live prices that I get to see every time I open my phone.\n\nI can’t go to sleep right after knowing my investment is in the red and I’m having a hard time working the whole day or even spending time with my family after checking the price and getting emotionally drained just by looking at it.\n\nRULE #3: HODL AND PLAY IT LONG-TERM\n\nThis is not a fad that everyone is shouting now, Hodling or holding your investment no matter what for the long-term is still the best investment strategy.\nBitcoin should be at least a 5 year holding game plan\nI use the following rules before I check the Bitcoin price\n- I will only check the price if I will be trading at that point in time\n- I will only check the price if I have enough time to sit down for at least 2 hours to make trades, decisions and wait for confirmation times\n\nRULE #4: DON'T RUIN YOUR DAY\n\nThere’s no point in looking at Bitcoin prices:\n- when you are spending time with your family\n- when you are on a holiday\n- when you are on the road travelling\n- when you simply can’t take any action to open all the exchanges and make an investment decision\n\nThere’s no point in simply ruining your day just by looking at the price if you made gains or losses. If you are investing for the long-term then making gains or losses should not affect you because you should realize by now that anything crazy and volatile can happen anytime.\n\nRULE #5: KEEP YOUR DAY JOB\n\nPASSIVE INVESTMENT WILL NEVER BEAT YOUR DAY JOB\nDid you know that the fastest way to earn money this day, this month or even this year is not really from Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies, but from your day job!\n\nYes you heard me right, there’s no point in looking at Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies as your “knight and shining armor” that will rescue you from your boring and mundane day job to feed your family in the short term.\n\nRemember no amount of passive investment (investing with no work required) that can beat your regular day job where you move, sweat and get migraines working the whole day to make money at the end of the month.\n\nLook at investing as a passive form of income that may give you minimal returns or in some cases will lose money in the short term. This is why you should always refer to rule #1 to live that stress free life of crypto investing.\n\nRULE #6: ACCEPTANCE IS THE KEY\n\nACCEPT THAT IT’S RED THIS YEAR AND GREEN 5 YEARS FROM NOW\nIf you will invest in Bitcoins it is very important to psychologically prepare yourself that if you invest today expect that it can be a red (loss) tomorrow, next week or even for the next 6 months because no one can really say if the price will go up or down.\n\nWill it go even further down? No one knows\nWill it go up tomorrow? No one knows\nYou are not Nostradamus and we are not in the business of guessing, we are in the business of scientific and fundamental investing strategy for the long-term.\n\nThis is why if you will invest today it will really help calm your nerves if you:\n- You have psychologically prepared yourself for a loss this year for a gain in the long-term\n- You have invested only an amount that you are willing to lose and forget\n\nRULE #7: DO PESO COST AVERAGING STRATEGY\n\nBuy on a regular schedule when you have money ready regardless of the price, you may buy more when the price is low and buy a few when the prices are high.\nIn this way you don’t stress yourself in looking at analytics the whole day and trying to guess the market.\nSave your time and energy in trying to look for all the signs on the internet on where the market will go, just invest on a regular schedule and set a price target if you will buy more if it’s low than your target price and just a few when it’s higher.\nAgain your time and energy will give you more money in the short-term spending it on your day job than wasting and stressing your time and energy in looking all-over the internet some clues if the market will go up or down.\nSpend more time and energy on your day job so you have more money to invest, don’t pull your hair out by trying to make money in the short term doing day trading.\n\nRULE #8: HOLD YOUR HORSES\n\nDon’t panic buy or panic sell\nBitcoin is not going anywhere and stop getting carried away by all the morons shouting to the moon on social media.\nAll things that go up will come down and vice versa.\nBe conservative, be calm and be pragmatic.\nYou are a very smart person, listen to your OWN intuition and stick to your game plan of long-term investing.\n\nRULE #9: PLAY BITCOIN LIKE A POKER PLAYER\n\nDon’t cry if you lose money and don’t celebrate if you made gains in the short term.\nYou are not safe in your Bitcoin investment until it makes x30 five years from now.\nIf you see a red stay calm\nIf you see a green stay calm\nStop crying about it \nDon’t even brag about it if it goes up, just stay steady, relaxed and keep your investment decisions to yourself so you don’t get rattled by other people when they heckle you when your Bitcoin investment goes south.\nIf you have been in the crypto market since last year you would know by now that anything can happen over-night and if you have psychologically prepared yourself and followed all the rules above then you would be as calm as a poker player whenever you get a good hand.\n\nRULE #10: LOSE THE MONEY BUT GAIN THE LESSON\n\nDon’t come out empty handed, there’s always something to be gained every time you lose in investing. You are the last and final authority on your Bitcoin wallet and its private keys.\n\nYou transact directly on the blockchain ledger and if you lose your Bitcoins or send them to the wrong address there's no one in the Universe that can help you retrieve or reverse your Bitcoins.\n\nSo here are a few professional tips on how to securely manage your Bitcoins.\n\nStoring Bitcoins in Private Key Wallets\n1) Back-up your 12 seed or 24 seed Master Password on paper \nDO NOT SAVE THEM ON YOUR PHONE, \nDO NOT SAVE THEM ON YOUR EMAIL, \nDO NOT PRINT THEM FROM YOUR COMPUTER\n\nWrite them down yourself on a piece of paper, make duplicate copies and put in a waterproof cellphone case and store in your home vault or safety deposit box in your bank.\n\nLast Pass Password Manager:\nAfter developing the habit of being paranoid with security I immediately changed the old habit of being careless with my online accounts and passwords.\n\nHere's a simple checklist of what I do to be absolutely sure of my accounts:\n\n1) I use Lastpass password manager now for all my passwords\n\n2) All my passwords on all my online accounts especially my email and online exchanges have \"very strong\" approval when I changed them.\n\n3) My laptop and my phone now have very long passwords and special characters.\n\n4) I use 2 Factor Authenticator for all my online accounts and I even put an \"App lock\" on my Android phone for the authenticator app on my phone.\n\n5) For my cold storage, I reformatted my extra PC at home and made sure it never and will never touch the internet because that is where I generate my Bitcoin wallet masterkeys.\n\nIn transferring Bitcoins we always follow a standard operating procedure to be absolutely sure of each and every transfer:\n\n1) Use QR code first if possible\n2) Copy and paste only policy for wallet addresses\n3) Take screenshots of wallet address and ask the recipient to reconfirm it\n4) Make a test send before sending the rest\n5) For new wallets make sure to test the send out from the new wallet\n6) Double check transaction through the blockchain network\n\nIf you are trading on crypto exchanges DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CRYPTO TOKENS ON EXCHANGES, THEY GET HACKED ALL THE TIME!\n\nI bet you didn't know that it takes so much effort in securing and owning Bitcoins right?\n\nWhy do I have this kind of practice and mindset in handling my own Bitcoins?\n\nIt is because I already envision that the Bitcoins I'm holding now are worth Billions of dollars in the far future (don't get too excited I only have a few Bitcoins hehehe 😆)\n\nThe mindset now in terms of security is envisioning your Bitcoins as if they are x100 or x1000 already! \n\nTry to find on youtube the guy who lost 7,000 Bitcoins in 2013, it is now worth 7 Billion pesos! 😱\n\nIf the guy had the mindset of Billion pesos worth of Bitcoins way back in 2013 then he wouldn't have carelessly handled his Bitcoins back then.\n\nBitcoin now is becoming more precious everyday and they are like owning an asset more precious than gold. \n\nAlways keep in mind that in the world of cryptocurrency everyone is trying to hack, steal and peep on your private keys.\n\nThere only three possible things that I see that you may lose your Bitcoins:\n1) You lost your private keys through theft\n2) You made a wrong send to the wrong address\n3) You were scammed by someone from sending your Bitcoins to their wallet address.\n\nMy best advice!\nStop moving your Bitcoins regularly, just put them in a wallet with private keys that are highly secured and keep them for the long-term.\n\nThe more you move your Bitcoins the higher the probability of you losing it, so stop playing around with it through exchanges and sending back and send again until you make a mistake!\n\nDid you know whenever we sell Bitcoins with our clients we follow all these procedures and even ask them how secure are their Private Keys, if we find out that the client is very careless with his Private Keys we cancel our trade for that moment until he is absolutely sure he knows how to safely secure his wallet and private keys.\n\n\"Bitcoins that will be worth Millions or Billions in the future are useless if you can't safely keep them for the long-term\"\n\nIf you've read this far and you truly understand my post then you are already more equipped to handle Bitcoins than 96% of the rest of the world.\n\nPlease take this advice seriously since I really care about Filipinos keeping and holding their Bitcoins for the future of their family.\n\nThis is a friendly advice from Ian Madrid, Bitcoins Meetup Philippines. ❤️\n\n--------------------------\n\nIf you feel this post is helpful please upvote this post and follow us for more helpful tips on how to get started with Bitcoins.\nIf you would like to check a unique Bitcoins service in the Philippines that offers a solid competitive rate and can guarantee you 100% safety and security on your transaction visit our website www.bitcoinsmeetup.com.       "body": "![wallet.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWcn2fzyDNitnqZuSmvPF3NheWHrhQDraUmN74dJK6YkV/wallet.png)\n\n\nBitcoin Wallet for Filipinos\n\n“What is a Bitcoin Wallet?”\n\nHow to get started with your first Bitcoin wallet in the Philippines?\n(this is also applicable anywhere else in the world)\n\nI’m getting this question a lot from all those people who want to start with Bitcoins in the Philippines but have no clue where to begin.\n\nBelow would be my simplest explanation as if I’m talking to a Five-year-old, if you want a more academic explanation just google the rest on the internet.\n\nLet’s get started,\n\nWhat is a Bitcoin Wallet?\nIt is basically a storage of Bitcoins\n\nWhere can I create one?\nThere are several types, Hot Wallet, Software Wallet, Cold Storage Wallet, Exchange Wallet and Hardware Wallets.\nEach type of wallet has its own specific purpose.\n\nExchange wallet is the temporary wallet issued to you by exchange sites selling bitcoins. \n\nAn example of exchange wallets are Abra, Coins.ph, Localbitcoins, Bitfinex and all other sites that buy and sell bitcoins.\n\nPro tip: Do not leave your bitcoins on exchanges, always transfer them to a Hardware or Software wallet but never ever ever leave them on exchange sites.\n\nSoftware Wallets are wallets that can be downloaded and installed on your Smartphone and Desktop PC (most of them are free).\n\nThe most popular software wallets are Electrum, Jaxx and Exodus.\n\nHardware Wallets are like cold storage wallet that has external buttons preventing your Bitcoin storage from online malicious hacks and access.\n\nThe most popular Hardware wallets on the market are Ledger Wallet and Trezor.\n\nI use Ledger Nano S as my hardware wallet, I bought it at Lazada for 6,000 at the time of this writing.\n\nCold Storage Wallets are for those paranoid Bitcoin holders, this includes me hahaha, Cold storage wallet is just a software wallet but installed on an offline computer which guarantees the owner that the wallet is free from any possible lurking virus, malware or any form of hack that may be residing on a computer that is being used on the internet.\n\nWith the cold storage method, the private keys are generated securely offline and the Bitcoins can be accessed only through external USB signing keys back and forth between offline and online computers.\n\nHaving a Cold Storage is a bit cumbersome and is not advised if you are regularly sending Bitcoins back and forth to different people, it would also require that you have a spare computer at home that you would never connect to the internet.\n\nThe simplified and more convenient version of a cold storage wallet is the hardware wallet, private keys are generated away from the computer and your Bitcoin funds can never be accessed by malicious bugs or malwares since sending any Bitcoins would require a password using the buttons on the device.\n\nSo what do I personally use?\n\nExchange Wallet as temporary storage after purchasing.\nHardware Wallet to secure my bitcoins for day to day trades.\nIf you don’t have the budget to buy a hardware wallet, use a software wallet that has private keys. \n\nMy personal suggestion is to use the Electrum software wallet, it is very secure if you will just focus on Bitcoins and can be easily installed on your smartphone or desktop computer.\n\nFinally, I use Electrum Cold Storage for my Bitcoin long-term holdings, Electrum is free and open source and considered to be the most secure and robust wallet available for Bitcoins. The Bitcoins I plan to keep for the long-term, I just send them to this wallet and don’t bother in accessing them until I really want to sell them in the far future.\n\nPro tip: If you are running an electrum cold storage wallet you can still view your Bitcoin account from your smartphone on a view only mode using the xpub address which you need to get from the offline cold storage wallet.\n\n\nA properly created Bitcoin wallet can guarantee you a safe and secure storage that is even more secure than centralized servers of the biggest banks in the world. The only weakness here is if you lose your private keys.\n\nPro tip: \n1) Never ever let your private keys touch anything that has internet on it\n2) Write down your private keys on a piece of paper and place in a beach waterproof cellphone case, just in case there might be floods in your area.\n3) Make a duplicate copy and place in a vault at home, bank safety deposit box or maybe in your sock drawer, just keep it in a safe place at home.\n\nDoes website exchanges like coins.ph or localbitcoins.com offer private keys to your wallet?\nNo, they are just creating sub-wallets on their main bitcoin wallet.\n\nWhich wallets have Private Keys that can be generated?\nSoftware Wallets such as Electrum and Jaxx\nAll Hardware Wallets\nCold Storage Wallets\n\nHow secure are bitcoin hardware or cold storage wallets? \nIt is mathematically estimated that if you take the most powerful computer in existence today it would take 0.65 billion billion years to hack your private key and we are only talking about one bitcoin wallet.\n\nI know it is starting to get confusing and the more I type the more terminologies and concepts I get to add.
