| body | # A perspective on the cryptocurrency market growth outlook. # Many people in the cryptocurrency space are hoping, praying that the next bull run is starting up again. As of April 23rd, the cryptocurrency market cap has returned to 400 billion from the low of 243 billion at the start of this month. The 65% increase in less that a month definitely feels like a bull run, but in the wild west cryptocurrency world it is not unusual. I have my doubts that this will transition to a large bull run. I believe in cryptocurrencie’s potential to grow and change the world more than most, but there are a few things that have to happen before the next parabolic advance. There are still a few big issues that need to be worked out before the next big bull run that compares to the 2017 or 2013 bull runs. The first is the infrastructure around cryptocurrency. During the peak of 2017’s bull run in December, the infrastructure started to shake. Coinbase couldn’t keep up with the number of new accounts being created, much less the buy and sell orders that flowed in with each new account. The exchanges I use were struggling to accept buy and sell orders. There were periods of days where I couldn’t execute any buy or sell order because all the exchanges were swamped with orders. The transaction fees of bitcoin, ethereum and other cryptocurrencies hit record highs. The time it took to settle a transaction on most blockchains has never been longer. The infrastructure of bank to cryptocurrency intermediaries, cryptocurrency exchanges, and the cryptocurrencies themselves will all need to be upgraded in order to support the activity that accompanies the next big bull run. The money to fund these upgrades has already been raised with the last bull run. Even after falling 70% from cryptocurrencies all time high, the overall market cap is 1500% higher that it was a year ago. The bottle neck is be the number of developers working on the infrastructure. With the initial coin offering(ICO) boom in 2017, there are now more that 1500 different cryptocurrency projects out there. This spreads the developers thin. It will take time for all of the needed upgrades to be made, on the order of years. Another big issue is all the scams that came along on the bull run. Bitconnect had risen to the top 20 cryptocurrencies during the 2017 boom, but has since been found to be a ponzi scheme. There are many cryptocurrencies out there with sketchy backgrounds. Tether has been criticized a lot for never completing an audit. Tether’s website claims to be tied to the US Dollar and to have 1 dollar in their bank account for every tether created. They had been promising to complete an audit for over a year and eventually even fired the company that was supposed to do the audit. All the while tether had been creating exponentially more tokens, to the point that some even speculated that tether was single handedly keeping the bull run going. This doesn’t built confidence in the cryptocurrency and the US government has now even issued Tether a subpoena. All the questionable cryptocurrencies out there will create sell pressure as they are exposed because they will create fear, uncertainty and doubt. A bear market will be healthy for the cryptocurrency ecosystem because it will help flush out weak cryptocurrencies, and expose scams that thrive in a growing market. This purging may also take years to complete. The last issue I will mention, and perhaps the most uncharted issue is government regulation. Before 2017’s bull run, many people recognized that government regulation was a risk to cryptocurrency but at that time the market cap was small enough that most governments paid little attention to it. In 2017 there was more money raised in ICOs than in IPOs. The market cap of cryptocurrencies grew enough to almost be measured in trillions instead of billions. People were making crazy amounts of money and loosing crazy amounts of money. All this has caught the eye of governments all around the world. China has banned ICOs while Japan has made Bitcoin legal tender. The inconsistency in regulations will be a big challenge going forward for all cryptocurrencies. The will take years or decades for governments to resolve their stance on cryptocurrencies and the impact is impossible to predict. Will governments eventually accept cryptocurrencies? How will governments enforce any rules they make when most of the cryptocurrencies are decentralized and there is no person or corporation for the government to hold accountable? Will governments try to make their own cyrptocurrenies and try to make everyone switch to their platforms? In conclusion, I do believe cryptocurrenies will grow to new all time highs and possibly even by orders of magnitude higher. Just not tomorrow, or next month or next year. There were 4 years between the last 2 parabolic advances. We will likely have to wait at least 4 years for the next. |

Will governments try to make their own cyrptocurrenies and try to make everyone switch to their platforms?\n\nIn conclusion, I do believe cryptocurrenies will grow to new all time highs and possibly even by orders of magnitude higher. Just not tomorrow, or next month or next year. There were 4 years between the last 2 parabolic advances. We will likely have to wait at least 4 years for the next.",

| body | Exactly, the masses! The currency cryptos have come along way since I first entered this space in 2013. The first time I bought BTC I had to buy linden dollars (from second life) and trade them for BTC. Coinbase makes that so much easier. Also, the hardware wallets that are now available make it easy to spend your crypto coins but are as safe as cold storage. I’m tired of needing to make new paper wallets every time I sent coins from an account, but it was the only way to keep your coins truly safe back then. Still things need to become easier. One of my friends wants to invest a little in cryptos but he is afraid of sending the coins into the abyss if he screws up an address. I don’t blame him but it’s issues like that that this space needs to solve to build confidence with the masses. |

| body | I can't agree more with your reply. I am testing some of them already (like cloud storage blockchains) but my experiences are that none of them are ready for the big masses! (They are still away from the ease of use like One drive or Google drive, ...). The same counts for pure "currency"-crypto's, we need an easy way to send, store, ... which is secure and easy to use for the big masses... |

| body | The issue is that it will take years to develop the blockchain projects into real value creating systems. The speculators don’t have that kind of patients. Eventually they will pull out, which will start the panic selling. The long term holder will be rewarded because eventually some of those blockchain projects will gain traction and have real world impacts. Then the next bubble inflates… The trick is to figure out which blockchains will burn out and which will make it long term. (I say the next bubble because the average person hasn’t bought into crypto yet. After they do we can move past these market wide bubbles. I think this is the 6th crypto bubble we are on right now) |

| body | It's impossible to predict when the bubble will pop. Perhaps later today or in a couple months. Depends on when the next Mt Gox happens, or when a resent ICO flops. The hackers out there are very incentivised right now. There have never been so many insecure wallets with +1 million dollars worth in them. Hold your own private keys! I thought the BTC community was coming together after consensus but that even seems to have fallen apart. I think BTC could fork into two coins and that would cause it to loose credibility. The developers should be working on making BTC great, not fighting to keep it alive. |

| body | The crypto world definitely has industry growth but look at the market cap over time. Real industry growth doesn't normally go exponential. The new Dapps, DAOs and Coins are not creating real value yet, but they get tons of money if they go through a ICO. That is a big bubble warning sign to me. Long term these prices will look cheap... for the survivors, but +90% will fail. Just like any other tech start up. https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/ |

| body | I think the "bubble" still have a lot of space to grow. If a lot of blockchain projects can make their whitepaper real and get real usage, the bubble can transform in a nice, big, growing market! But indeed, for now I keep on hodling, LTC is one of my favourite coins! And still cheap :-) |

| body | You might be right. What a carnage. It's bound to happen at some point. But how close are we to that point? There are a lot of people with very strong interests in that scenario not happening, and I think the BTC community is showing some willingness to act on the problems soon instead of fighting over which way to go. It will be interesting to see what happens, that's for sure, but I'll keep on hodl'ing for a while still. |

| body | I can hear the troll’s footsteps already, but the question is valid. Bitcoin promised low fees and fast transaction speeds by utilizing the blockchain. That’s why we have been ditching fiat in favor of crypto. At this stage of the game low fees and fast transaction speeds are the basic minimum features that any coin needs to have in order to succeed. Since bitcoin’s inception many ‘improved’ coins have come online, which either address scaling issues, and/or add additional features. Bitcoin’s community has failed to address the scaling issue, which has made it painful to use bitcoin. It sometimes takes days for a transaction to post and the fees have become unreasonable for small transactions. I know many people are nostalgic for bitcoin but these fundamental issues will dethrone bitcoin. It has already lost half its market share. The technology already exists to solve these issues in other coins. The market is slowly figuring out which alternatives are the best solution and the transfer of wealth from bitcoins to altcoins has begun, and is accelerating. When this crypto bubble pops people will panic and pull the remainder of their money out as predicted in any bubble. If you thought the bitcoin network was clogged up now, the resulting congestion will be even worse. When people are waiting days for their bitcoins transactions to clear and see the price dropping they will feel a sense of agony and create lots of FUD through social media. As the altcoin market unwinds, people will start funneling their money through ethereum* instead of bitcoin to get back to fiat. This will allow bitcoin’s value to drop further and ethereum to delay its price fall. People’s confidence in and loyalty to bitcoin will evaporate. Bitcoin’s market cap will then be the same magnitude in size as other alt-coins like litecoin and dash. At that point it is an uphill battle to capture market share. The winner will be the one with the best technology and unless bitcoin’s community turns it around, bitcoin will be left in the dust like countless other shitcoins. *I state that people will funnel their crypto money through ethereum because the infrastructure is in place in many exchanges to trade ether for alt-coins. From there people can convert ether for fiat through coinbase. Litecoin might also see some of this action as it can be converted to fiat through coinbase but the exchanges don’t have as many litecoin for alt-coin trades. Shapeshift allows alt-coin for alt-coin trades but the money will be flowing in one direction at that point so the transactions will be slow. |

| body | Its been a busy week. I’m still sore from auguring holes for a deck. Lots of things really coming to life in the garden! First day of hop sprouting Hops sprout 1 week Grape Leafing out Tomatoes Transplants Potatoes Sprouting The storage spot for my potatoes happened to be along a outside wall. When the season warmed so did the storage spot. This caused my potatoes to sprout. Whoops! I’ll have to find a new storage spot or eat them faster next winter. Mushroom Logs in Tarp Pool Mushroom Logs in Tarp Pool I am soaking my mushroom logs in order to help hydrate them and encourage them to fruit. I made a ‘tarp pool’ to hold the water around the logs. | body | I’m feeling pretty sore today after planting 11 trees yesterday at the cabin. The week has been cold, glooming, and rainy. Moderately productive. I started a tray of peas for their micro greens. Basically you grow some seeds very densely until the first set of true leaves appear. Then you harvest the stems. The resulting microgreens are loaded with flavor and nutrients. Peas day 3 Peas day 7 Peas Day 10 In 4 days, they should be twice as tall and I will harvest them. Tree Planted with Landscaping Fabric Bare Root Trees I planted multiples of walnut, hickory, pecan, and chestnut. Straw Bales I have 10 straw bales I will use for ‘straw bales gardening’. Conditioning Straw Bale I have started the conditioning process which starts composting the straw bale. The conditioning process involves watering the bales and adding nutrients. I also used a compost innoculant to help start things out. Grapes on Trellis I made a trellis for the grape plants. |

| body | Gerard and I planted 5 varieties of hops in his garden. We put up 10 foot posts for the hops to climb up. 5 Types of Hops: Brewers Gold, Cascade, Crystal, Newport, Nugget (in order planted from North to South) Hops are planted from a rhizome. In shipment the rhizome is in a plastic bag with a moist towel around it. I kept them in a refrigerator until ready to plant. The rhizomes already had shoots growing off them, looking for light. I planted them so the average rhizome depth was 6″ with the shoots pointed upward. The shoots were then 2-3″ from the surface of the soil. Hop Rhizome Posts for Hops Prepped Tree Site I started prepping tree sites at my parent’s cabin. Since the area is pretty wet I decided each tree needed a mound in order to help the roots get a bit more air. I brought in pine bark, compost, top soil, peat moss, and wood mulch to amend the sites. I mixed the amendments together with some of the soil from the site. I mounded the soil and put weed barrier over the top and the surrounding area. I put logs around the mounded part and added mulch on top. I will put up a fence once the trees are planted. I have 2 weeks until I get the trees! Tree Hole full of Water I had to find some new sites because some locations flooded with the latest rain. Amendments for Tree Site Weasel? |
