Americans Might Be Ready For 8 [not counting "bystanders"] http://www.people-press.org/2017/10/24/political-typology-reveals-deep-fissures-on-the-right-and-left/ Political Typology Reveals Deep Fissures on the Right and Left http://www.people-press.org/quiz/political-typology/ Where do you fit in the political typology? ______________ Oh, by the way, it turns out I am a "solid liberal" according to the typology quiz. __________________________ # Republican Leaning groups: ### 1. Core Conservatives — 13 percent of the general public [beliefs similar to the Republican politicians] Male dominated and financially comfortable, for a small government, globalists, believe the American economic system is fair. ## 2. **Country First Conservatives** — 6 percent older, less educated, **unhappy with the direction of the country**, nationalists and protectionists, socially conservative, **don't believe the American economic system is fair.** ## 3. **Market Skeptic Republicans** — 12 percent **they believe banks and financial institutions have a negative effect on the direction of the country; 94 percent believe the economic system favors the powerful.** That is much closer to Solid Liberals than Core Conservatives. And they do not believe that U.S. economy is fair to most – just 5 percent think so. **In favor of raising taxes on corporations and small businesses** **Fairly socially liberal** — just 31 percent believe homosexuality should be discouraged by society **Somewhat protectionist**, though less than Country First Republicans — they are split on U.S. involvement around the globe ### 4. New Era Enterprisers — 11 percent young (average age: 47 yrs) Republicans Pro-business and trade (they're globalists, too), of the belief that the economy is generally fair to most Americans (75 percent say so) Socially liberal — believing immigrants are not a burden and that homosexuality should not be discouraged by society # Democrat leaning groups: ## 5. Devout and Diverse — 9 percent [I think the Democratic Party is losing this group's support] racially diverse, struggling financially, older and the least educated among Democrat learning categories, very religious, believe the U.S. should pay more attention at home than to problems overseas. Largely pro-business and don't believe government regulation is necessary to protect the public's interest, **believe that government should provide safety nets like everyone having health care and that the country needs to still make changes to advance racial equality** **it's the most pro-Trump Democratic group (though 60 percent still disapprove of him)** ### 6. Disaffected Democrats — 14 percent They actually regard the Democratic Party very favorably. **But rather they're disaffected with government (most of them say government is "wasteful and inefficient"); politics generally (most believe voting does not give them a say in how government runs); and the direction of the country.** racially diverse, lower educated, financially stressed — and fairly young (with an average age of 44) Anti-Trump, **pro-social safety net** **believe the U.S. needs to continue making changes to affect racial equality.** don't believe government regulation is necessary to protect the public interest believe that the U.S. should pay more attention to problems at home. ### 7. Opportunity Democrats — 12 percent [I would say they are the Clinton-ish people] Largely liberal when it comes to the role of government strongly in disapproval of Trump two-thirds believe the country needs to do more to give blacks equal rights to whites (though that's the lowest of the four Democratic-leaning groups) They believe strongly that you can get ahead with hard work. not protectionist. They believe in global engagement. ## 8. Solid Liberals — 16 percent [this is a classical profile of Bernie supporters] Unified, almost unanimously in their disapproval of Trump (99 percent disapprove). And they are activist about it — half say they have contributed to a candidate or campaign in the past year. For context, just a third of Core Conservatives say the same. Four-in-10 Solid Liberals say they've participated in a protest against Trump's policies. Unified in their belief that government has the responsibility to make sure all Americans have health care and have a strong sense of racial justice. There is near-unanimous agreement among this group that the country needs to continue making changes to give blacks equal rights with whites believe that hard work and determination are no guarantee of success in the United States. Strongly of the belief that it's necessary to regulate businesses to protect the public interest, Very much globalists. Very few, just one-in-10, believe the U.S. should pay less attention overseas and focus more on problems at home. Largely nonreligious. |

| title | Video evidence provided: Did Donald Trump secretly touch Ann Romney (Mitt Romney's wife) from behind in camera? | Also, the reasons that Mitt Romney wanted Donald Trump's endorsement in 2012 |
| body | (If you downvote this, please state your reason, thank you in advance.) # Video link: Donald Trump endorses Mitt Romney (February 2, 2012) https://youtu.be/wepQa4gC5Yw?t=98 The David Pakman show: Trump Caught on Video Sexually Assaulting Mitt Romney's Wife? [I don't believe David provided the video link] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izv7XTY1eiU # The sequence of the event and my interpretations: So, here is what I saw and interpreted the sequence of the event (as Romney keeps on talking nonsense): @1:44 At first, Ann Romney's facial expression changes a bit. From the smiling expression @ 1:46 to a bit surprised or scared or disgusted (I can't tell), @ 1:47 and changed to maybe a forced grimace(?) @ 1:50 And then, she looks away from her husband to the general direction of the audience. At the same time, Donald Trump pulls the left of his open suit (he never seems to button his suit) with his left hand. @1:48 -1:49 #### My interpretation: 1. he used his left hand to pull his suit if Trump's right hand is preoccupied, but it doesn't matter if he habitually pulls his suit using hand from the same hand, as it is usually the case. 2. It looks like Trump is touching Ann Romney during these few seconds. The distance between the two is close enough for that to happen without even noticing, as Donald Trump's right side is directly behind her. When she looks away from her husband and to the general direction of the audience, she might be thinking, "does anyone see what he's doing?" @ 1:52 When Mitt Romney is forced to pause his speech to allow the audience to applause the fact Mitt Romney had the endorsement of Donald Trump @ 1:53 Ann Romney gets uncomfortable and squirms a bit and maybe nudges him a bit -- enough to give Trump the signal to cut it out. She also steps a bit away from Donald Trump @1:54. And there seems to be a very short exchange between the two immediately afterward (or maybe they just both opened their mouths a bit) @ 1:54 - 1:56. # And what Trump did after this awkward moment: tying his hands at his back https://youtu.be/nmwzGMmGcJw?t=143 Watch Donald Trump Endorse Mitt Romney for GOP Presidential Candidate A different video didn't capture the movement, but it did capture Trump's actions afterwards. Trump ties his hands at the back. #### my Interpretation: I don't know if Ann Romney's rebuff caused him to unconsciously tie his hands at the back as a admission of guilt, or Anna Romney told him to do that (unlikely). Or simply Trump wants to change his stance. # Of course, this is mostly speculation: We speculate, you decide. (Just kidding. It's a play on Fox News' utterly insincere slogan: We report, you decide) ________________ ## sidenote: the reasons that Romney wanted Donald Trump's endorsement in 2012 Regardless of the nature of the incidence, Mitt Romney sought Donald Trump's endorsement in order to get the approval of the **tea party movement and the "birther" movement** who rally around figures like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin. Also, Romney wants to have a better chance to win Nevada. source: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/divided-states-of-america/#video-2 PBS FRONTLINE | Divided States of America | Part II The relevant segment of part 2 of this documentary: starting, @ 40:14. especially relevant @ 41:56 - 43:56 #### **By the way, the documentary is also a story how the pervasive conservative propaganda machine has been pulling the Republican politicians (and voters) further and further to the far-right and tearing the country apart.** |

"title": "Video evidence provided: Did Donald Trump secretly touch Ann Romney (Mitt Romney's wife) from behind in camera? | Also, the reasons that Mitt Romney wanted Donald Trump's endorsement in 2012",
"body": "(If you downvote this, please state your reason, thank you in advance.)\n\n# Video link: \n\nDonald Trump endorses Mitt Romney (February 2, 2012)\n\nhttps://youtu.be/wepQa4gC5Yw?t=98\n\nThe David Pakman show: Trump Caught on Video Sexually Assaulting Mitt Romney's Wife? [I don't believe David provided the video link]\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izv7XTY1eiU\n\n# The sequence of the event and my interpretations: \n\nSo, here is what I saw and interpreted the sequence of the event (as Romney keeps on talking nonsense): \n\n@1:44 At first, Ann Romney's facial expression changes a bit. From the smiling expression\n\n@ 1:46 to a bit surprised or scared or disgusted (I can't tell), \n\n@ 1:47 and changed to maybe a forced grimace(?)\n\n@ 1:50 And then, she looks away from her husband to the general direction of the audience. At the same time, Donald Trump pulls the left of his open suit (he never seems to button his suit) with his left hand. @1:48 -1:49 \n\n#### My interpretation: \n\n1. he used his left hand to pull his suit if Trump's right hand is preoccupied, but it doesn't matter if he habitually pulls his suit using hand from the same hand, as it is usually the case. \n\n2. It looks like Trump is touching Ann Romney during these few seconds. The distance between the two is close enough for that to happen without even noticing, as Donald Trump's right side is directly behind her. When she looks away from her husband and to the general direction of the audience, she might be thinking, \"does anyone see what he's doing?\"\n\n@ 1:52 When Mitt Romney is forced to pause his speech to allow the audience to applause the fact Mitt Romney had the endorsement of Donald Trump\n\n@ 1:53 Ann Romney gets uncomfortable and squirms a bit and maybe nudges him a bit -- enough to give Trump the signal to cut it out. She also steps a bit away from Donald Trump @1:54. And there seems to be a very short exchange between the two immediately afterward (or maybe they just both opened their mouths a bit) @ 1:54 - 1:56. \n\n# And what Trump did after this awkward moment: tying his hands at his back\n\nhttps://youtu.be/nmwzGMmGcJw?t=143\n\nWatch Donald Trump Endorse Mitt Romney for GOP Presidential Candidate\n\n\nA different video didn't capture the movement, but it did capture Trump's actions afterwards. Trump ties his hands at the back. \n\n#### my Interpretation: \nI don't know if Ann Romney's rebuff caused him to unconsciously tie his hands at the back as a admission of guilt, or Anna Romney told him to do that (unlikely). Or simply Trump wants to change his stance. \n\n# Of course, this is mostly speculation: \n\nWe speculate, you decide. (Just kidding. It's a play on Fox News' utterly insincere slogan: We report, you decide) \n________________\n\n## sidenote: the reasons that Romney wanted Donald Trump's endorsement in 2012\n\nRegardless of the nature of the incidence, Mitt Romney sought Donald Trump's endorsement in order to get the approval of the **tea party movement and the \"birther\" movement** who rally around figures like Donald Trump and Sarah Palin. | title | The Republican Party's grand scheme: tax cut for the wealthy in the name of economic growth, let deficit balloon, and then cut social programs, such as medicare, medicaid, welfare, and social security under the pretense of balancing budget |
| body | Actually, the Republican Party has been going at it for a long time. The earliest attempt as far as I know to privatize social security is during the Bill Clinton's administration. It eventually got derailed after Monica Lewinsky scandal became the center of political discourse. Of course, Bill Clinton's "welfare to work" is a classical Republican idea that only adds burden to the low-income people. The GOP has tried to privatize social security under the Bush administration. It failed. But this undying "dream" of GOP is going to hunt us again in the near future, when the tax cut will dramatically increase the deficit. By then, "the deficit hawk" side of the GOP will complaint about the growing national debt, and demand to cut funding for government programs, such as medicare, medicaid, welfare, and social security in the name of balancing the budget. I was reminded of this GOP trickery by Rational National: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYpVix1Kctc Bernie’s Prediction On Tax Reform Comes True https://youtu.be/XryPTtGpg1Q Sanders Challenges Republicans to Prove Him Wrong About Tax Bill |

| title | Trump says "there has never been a 10-month president that has accomplished what we have accomplished". In a sense, he's right -- if he's speaking to his family, donors, big companies, the ultra-rich, and the Russian government |
| body | # What a president can do without congressional action: you don't need passing a single bill to "get things done". Let me reiterate: a president doesn't need legislative accomplishment in order to have a big impact to Americans and people around the world. (This behemoth of executive branch is certainly not what Framers had imagined, nor is it desirable, really.) + The power of appointment: The president makes about 4,000 appointments. And in many ways, personnel is policy; how good your policy is depends on how effective and dedicated your personnel are. > More than 4,000 political appointees (more like 4,100 during this transition), many of whom hold important leadership and policymaking positions, will be heading out the door next year with the change in administrations. Finding qualified people to fill these jobs is an enormous undertaking, but it is critically important to making the federal government work effectively for the American public. Help Wanted: 4,000 Presidential Appointees http://presidentialtransition.org/blog/posts/160316_help-wanted-4000-appointees.php + The broad executive power: **the president can issue executive actions that have the effect of binding laws, he can override any executive actions of the previous administrations.** + the president can decide how laws are interpreted and enforced + The president has a lot of power on foreign affairs and some power on making treaties. This, of course, relates to national security, which the president has board power on. + issue clemency (pardons and commutations) on federal offenses to any American he sees fit. + Executive privilege: to withhold information from the public in the name of national security. Tracking how many key positions Trump has filled so far https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/ It’s not just the Cabinet: Trump’s transition team may need to find about 4,100 appointees https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/ “The supreme responsibility of the president is to protect our system of government, not the safety of individuals or even their physical security.” And Trump was upending that system of government almost from the very start. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-everyones-getting-wrong-about-the-presidents-no-1-job # So what has he done? The overarching themes in Trump administration are personal enrichment, serving the money and foreign interests, regulatory capture, violating the rule of law, the normal procedure, and the constitution, and utter gross incompetence and chaos ## for himself and his family 1) using his power of the presidency to encourage people (including foreign diplomats) using his own hotels and other businesses as supposed to competitors. 2) overcharging the Secret Service to protect his family and himself when his family were residing in Trump Tower (until his wife and son decided to move into the White House) and when he takes frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort ("winter White House") in Florida to play golf and meet foreign leaders and dignitaries among other people. 3) Use his presidency to get permits approved for the hotels bearing his famous name (Trump gets licensing and management fees) in foreign countries and getting his trademarks approved in China. http://www.newsweek.com/trump-golf-trips-have-cost-nearly-150000-cart-rentals-secret-service-727933 TRUMP GOLF TRIPS HAVE COST NEARLY $150,000 IN CART RENTALS FOR SECRET SERVICE ## For the fossil fuel industry: 1) putting the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) under their control 2) exiting the Paris Climate Change Agreement to effectively end the effort to reduce carbon emissions 3) gutting environmental regulations (see below) 4) issuing permits to drilling and building projects a case in point: approving the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline ## For big companies, contractors and business community in general: 1) getting rid of environmental regulations that chemical and fossil fuel industries, mining industry, etc. will benefit. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/05/climate/trump-environment-rules-reversed.html 52 Environmental Rules on the Way Out Under Trump ## regulatory capture & let the fox guard the henhouse 2) Department of Energy is headed by Trump's appoitee Rick Perry, who has benefited from the fossil industries wants to destroy it. This is the agency that has all kinds of responsibilities related to energy and nuclear weapons. During the Obama administration, the agency prioritized on developing clean renewable energy, which I assume Rick Perry would very much want to end. 3) Housing and Urban Development (HUD), headed by Trump's appointee Ben Carson, gives out contracts to build low-incoming housings for the poor. I'm sure this will be a windfall for building contractors. 4) Department of Education is headed by Trump's appointee Betsy Devos, who has advocated for charter school system and school voucher programs without any government accountability or regulation. School voucher programs would allow allow students to attend private schools (including religious schools) with public funding. Essentially, Betsy Devos wants private schools to use government funds as money tree without giving students proper education. Her experiment with Michigan's charter school program has already demonstrated this obvious flaw. I'm sure Betsy Devos will work hard to cut funding for public school and try to push for these programs through the Department of the Education from inside. By cutting the public education, the Republicans can turn around to blame public schools for their ineffectiveness. Of course, pushing for funding for religious schools also violates the separation between church and state, as the government should not promote religion or favor any religion. Betsy Devos is also very supportive of Christian private schools in order to"advance God's Kingdom". Also, by defunding public school, the teachers' unions will be weakened, Betsy Devos and her family has a long history of going against unions. And labor unions, including teachers' unions donate to the Democratic Party. Thus, by getting rid of unions, the Democratic Party loses its organized major donor base. 5) Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is headed by Trump's appointee Ajit Pai, who is currently pushing for Net Neutrality repeal and prevent local and state government to reinstate Net Neutrality. He has already put this repeal to a vote in the Commission, and the repeal is expected to pass along the party line (3 Republicans vs. 2 Democrats) . He was a lawyer working for Verizon, a major telecommunication company. He has long advocated for deregulation in the communication industry and the repeal of net neutrality. Without net neutrality, internet service providers are able to discriminate the loading speed of web content to their customers and hold web companies hostage by demanding extra fee for providing speed that end users have already paid for. ## for the Banking industry: 1) taking the pesty Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under their control. Trump just created a competing claim to the agency of acting director by violating the law. 2) financial advisers do not have to serve the interest of clients > The Financial Stability Oversight Council, for example, recently stripped AIG of its “systemically important financial institution” (SIFI) designation. That decision from the interagency group of regulators freed the insurance company from much of the enhanced oversight its messy 2008 collapse inspired. http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/356127-bank-industry-searches-for-wins-under-trump Bank industry searches for wins under Trump ## Lobbyists: An open season for lobbying Of course, this is a catch all terms, but lobbyists are certainly happy when it's open season. Trump administration is very willing to listen to the lobbyists' advise and complaints -- a complete reversal from the Obama administration. 1) > He reversed President Barack Obama’s restrictions that sought to keep lobbyists at bay by physically barring many of them from the White House. "body": "# What a president can do without congressional action: you don't need passing a single bill to \"get things done\". \n\nLet me reiterate: a president doesn't need legislative accomplishment in order to have a big impact to Americans and people around the world. (This behemoth of executive branch is certainly not what Framers had imagined, nor is it desirable, really.) \n\n+ The power of appointment: The president makes about 4,000 appointments. And in many ways, personnel is policy; how good your policy is depends on how effective and dedicated your personnel are. \n\n> More than 4,000 political appointees (more like 4,100 during this transition), many of whom hold important leadership and policymaking positions, will be heading out the door next year with the change in administrations. Finding qualified people to fill these jobs is an enormous undertaking, but it is critically important to making the federal government work effectively for the American public.\n\nHelp Wanted: 4,000 Presidential Appointees\n\nhttp://presidentialtransition.org/blog/posts/160316_help-wanted-4000-appointees.php\n\n+ The broad executive power: **the president can issue executive actions that have the effect of binding laws, he can override any executive actions of the previous administrations.** \n\n+ the president can decide how laws are interpreted and enforced \n\n+ The president has a lot of power on foreign affairs and some power on making treaties. This, of course, relates to national security, which the president has board power on. \n\n+ issue clemency (pardons and commutations) on federal offenses to any American he sees fit. \n\n+ Executive privilege: to withhold information from the public in the name of national security. \n\nTracking how many key positions Trump has filled so far\n\n\nhttps://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/\n\n\nIt’s not just the Cabinet: Trump’s transition team may need to find about 4,100 appointees\n\n\nhttps://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/trump-administration-appointee-tracker/database/\n\n\n\n“The supreme responsibility of the president is to protect our system of government, not the safety of individuals or even their physical security.” And Trump was upending that system of government almost from the very start. \n\nhttps://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/what-everyones-getting-wrong-about-the-presidents-no-1-job\n\n\n# So what has he done? \n\nThe overarching themes in Trump administration are personal enrichment, serving the money and foreign interests, regulatory capture, violating the rule of law, the normal procedure, and the constitution, and utter gross incompetence and chaos \n\n## for himself and his family\n\n1) using his power of the presidency to encourage people (including foreign diplomats) using his own hotels and other businesses as supposed to competitors. \n\n2) overcharging the Secret Service to protect his family and himself when his family were residing in Trump Tower (until his wife and son decided to move into the White House) and when he takes frequent trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort (\"winter White House\") in Florida to play golf and meet foreign leaders and dignitaries among other people.\n\n3) Use his presidency to get permits approved for the hotels bearing his famous name (Trump gets licensing and management fees) in foreign countries and getting his trademarks approved in China. \n\nhttp://www.newsweek.com/trump-golf-trips-have-cost-nearly-150000-cart-rentals-secret-service-727933\n\nTRUMP GOLF TRIPS HAVE COST NEARLY $150,000 IN CART RENTALS FOR SECRET SERVICE\n\n\n## For the fossil fuel industry: \n\n1) putting the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) under their control \n\n2) exiting the Paris Climate Change Agreement to effectively end the effort to reduce carbon emissions\n\n3) gutting environmental regulations (see below) \n\n4) issuing permits to drilling and building projects \n\na case in point: approving the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline \n\n## For big companies, contractors and business community in general:\n\n1) getting rid of environmental regulations that chemical and fossil fuel industries, mining industry, etc. will benefit. \n\nhttps://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/05/climate/trump-environment-rules-reversed.html\n52 Environmental Rules on the Way Out Under Trump\n\n\n## regulatory capture & let the fox guard the henhouse\n\n2) Department of Energy is headed by Trump's appoitee Rick Perry, who has benefited from the fossil industries wants to destroy it. This is the agency that has all kinds of responsibilities related to energy and nuclear weapons. During the Obama administration, the agency prioritized on developing clean renewable energy, which I assume Rick Perry would very much want to end. \n\n3) Housing and Urban Development (HUD), headed by Trump's appointee Ben Carson, gives out contracts to build low-incoming housings for the poor. I'm sure this will be a windfall for building contractors. \n\n4) Department of Education is headed by Trump's appointee Betsy Devos, who has advocated for charter school system and school voucher programs without any government accountability or regulation. School voucher programs would allow allow students to attend private schools (including religious schools) with public funding. Essentially, Betsy Devos wants private schools to use government funds as money tree without giving students proper education. Her experiment with Michigan's charter school program has already demonstrated this obvious flaw. \n\nI'm sure Betsy Devos will work hard to cut funding for public school and try to push for these programs through the Department of the Education from inside. By cutting the public education, the Republicans can turn around to blame public schools for their ineffectiveness. \n\nOf course, pushing for funding for religious schools also violates the separation between church and state, as the government should not promote religion or favor any religion. Betsy Devos is also very supportive of Christian private schools in order to\"advance God's Kingdom\". \n\nAlso, by defunding public school, the teachers' unions will be weakened, Betsy Devos and her family has a long history of going against unions. And labor unions, including teachers' unions donate to the Democratic Party. Thus, by getting rid of unions, the Democratic Party loses its organized major donor base. \n\n5) Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is headed by Trump's appointee Ajit Pai, who is currently pushing for Net Neutrality repeal and prevent local and state government to reinstate Net Neutrality. \n\nWithout net neutrality, internet service providers are able to discriminate the loading speed of web content to their customers and hold web companies hostage by demanding extra fee for providing speed that end users have already paid for. \n\n\n\n## for the Banking industry: \n\n1) taking the pesty Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under their control. Trump just created a competing claim to the agency of acting director by violating the law. \n\n2) financial advisers do not have to serve the interest of clients \n\n\n> The Financial Stability Oversight Council, for example, recently stripped AIG of its “systemically important financial institution” (SIFI) designation. That decision from the interagency group of regulators freed the insurance company from much of the enhanced oversight its messy 2008 collapse inspired.\n\nhttp://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/356127-bank-industry-searches-for-wins-under-trump\n\nBank industry searches for wins under Trump\n\n## Lobbyists: An open season for lobbying \n\nOf course, this is a catch all terms, but lobbyists are certainly happy when it's open season. Trump administration is very willing to listen to the lobbyists' advise and complaints -- a complete reversal from the Obama administration. \n\n1) > He reversed President Barack Obama’s restrictions that sought to keep lobbyists at bay by physically barring many of them from the White House. [...] And Trump has stopped the public disclosure of White House visitors’ logs, so now lobbyists come and go with less concern that their presence at the White House will be scrutinized.\n\n2) > A number of business trade groups asked the Trump administration to suspend a rule, created during the Obama years, that would require companies to disclose to the government any communications they have with employees during union disputes.
