Más de 7,1 millones de venezolanos participaron de la consulta simbólica convocada por la Mesa de Unidad Democrática (MDU) para retar al Gobierno y dejar en evidencia el rechazo generalizado frente a los planes del presidente, Nicolás Maduro, de reescribir la Constitución.\n\nSin embargo la cifra fue inferior a la votación que consiguió Henrique Capriles en las más recientes elecciones presidenciales (7,2 millones) y la que obtuvo la oposición en los comicios legislativos de diciembre de 2015 (7,7 millones), que le dieron el control de la Asamblea Nacional. Pese a ello los opositores al régimen de Maduro calificaron como \"un éxito\" el acto electoral celebrado este 16 de julio, teniendo en cuenta que como no tenían autorización del Consejo Nacional Electoral, tuvieron hasta siete veces menos centros de votación en comparación a esos comicios legislativos, cuando se instalaron cerca de 14.000. No es fácil predecir el mercado a corto plazo y hacer con ello fortuna, como han conseguido varios traders cuyas historias son referencia en Wall Street.\nAlgunos de ellos, como George Soros, figura entre los hombres más ricos del mundo. El inversor tumbó a la libra en 1992 en una de las operaciones más famosas de la historia. Por su parte, Jesse Livermore hizo fortuna con el crack del 29, mientras que John Paulson ganó una gran suma de dinero prediciendo el estallido de la burbuja hipotecaria en Estados Unidos.\nEstos son cinco de los traders más famosos de la historia de Wall Street, con grandes éxitos y algún que otro sonado fracaso:\nJesse Livermore\n'El gran oso de Wall Street' o 'el chico de las apuestas' ha sido uno de los traders más famosos de la historia de Wall Street (puede que el que más). Hijo de un granjero de Massachusetts, Jesse Livermore (1877-1940) trabajó en su adolescencia en Boston actualizando los precios de los bonos, acciones y commodities. De esta forma, se familiarizó con los movimientos de los activos y con una mente privilegiada para las finanzas, estableció métodos predictivos.\nSu primera pequeña fortuna la amasó jugando en las casas de apuestas de Boston y después en la costa Oeste, hasta que tuvo vetada la entrada en todos los casinos. Entonces se marchó a Nueva York para trabajar como trader a tiempo completo. Tenía 20 años y comenzó a ganar grandes cantidades. Sumó una gran fortuna al ponerse corto con Union Pacific antes del terremoto de San Francisco en 1906.\nCon sus prácticas de ponerse corto en el mercado antes de las caídas del mercado en 1907 y 1929 construyó una riqueza que pronto dilapidó, tanto con el cierre de la firma de corretaje Murray Mitchel and Company en 1913 como con la depresión de los años 30, esta vez por razones desconocidas. El libro 'Recuerdos de un operador de acciones', escrito por Edwin Lefèvre, cuenta parte de sus vivencias. Siempre se le ha achacado que fue un gran trader pero un pésimo gestor. Livermore aprendió a generar dinero, pero no a mantenerlo.\nVarias de sus estrategias se basaban en acciones que fueron prohibidas posteriormente por la SEC, como utilizar información privilegiada u ocultar sus posiciones. Reino Unido había entrado en 1990 en el ERM, el sistema de cambio fijo de la Unión Europea predecesor del euro. En 1992, tras las dudas que se generaron con alguna divisa por un recorte de tipos del Bundesbank y mensajes desde el banco central alemán, posicionó al Quantum Fund, el hedge fund del que es responsable, corto con la libra. Reino Unido cada vez necesitaba más esfuerzos, en concreto reservas de divisas, para mantener el tipo de cambio fijo, y acabó abandonándolo con la consiguiente caída de la libra. El 16 de septiembre de 1992, conocido como ‘miércoles negro’, la libra llegó a caer un 15% contra el marco alemán (por el que había apostado contra la libra) y un 25% contra el dólar.Se estima que Soros ganó casi 1.000 millones de libras en un día.\nSe estima que Soros ganó casi 1.000 millones de libras en un día al ponerse corto con la libra y provocar la caída de la divisa\nForbes estima su fortuna en 24.200 millones de dólares (dato de 2015) lo que le convierte en una de las personas más ricas del mundo. Se cree que ganó casi 4.000 millones de dólares ese año. En 2014, la revista Forbes estimó en 13.500 millones de dólares su fortuna.\nEn 2010, según reveló The Wall Street Journal, el gurú de los activos tóxicos se embolsó más de 5.000 millones de dólares con su apuesta por el oro. En plena recesión mundial el metal precioso se disparó y Paulson supo verlo mejor que nadie. Pero no vio su caída. Sólo en 2013 el hedge fund Gold Fund PFR 23 que gestiona Paulson perdió un 65%. También se equivocó al apostar contra el euro en 2012. Tres años después, la moneda única sigue funcionando y, como dijo Mario Draghi, “es irreversible”.\nJohn Templeton\nJohn Templeton (1912-2008) fue uno de los pioneros en la gestión de fondos de inversión. Después de hacer dinero en Wall Street, fundó en 1954 Templeton Funds, una importante gestora que aún perdura. La revista Money le nombró el mejor seleccionador de acciones del siglo XX en 1999.\nUna de sus mejores apuestas la realizó ocho años antes de morir, antes de que estallase la burbuja de las dotcom.
