      "body": "Today, a total idiot put my life, and the life of my unborn baby, in danger. At the same time, he put many other lives at risk, including his own, and could have caused thousands of dollars in damage.\n\nI was driving home from work on the highway and found myself behind an 18-wheeler and a Jeep. It's not to scale (I was even further away from the truck and the Jeep because I like to give myself as much room to react to situations as possible, and this answer is basically why, but I squished my car closer for the sake of the diagram), and there's actually one more lane to the left of the truck, but I've left it out because it's irrelevant, and I think it would make the diagram too complicated.\n\nAnyway, we were all driving along at high speed when suddenly a tire on the 18-wheeler blew. Bits of rubber rained down on the road and a white mist appeared from where the tire had been moments before. Instantly, the truck driver put on his directional, signaling that he wanted to move over to the breakdown lane.\n\nI backed my car off in response, but the Jeep didn't do anything. He continued to match the speed of the truck and was essentially blocking the truck driver from moving over.\n\nThis idiot was lucky the truck driver could see his Jeep. The truck started slowing down to go behind the Jeep, and this dumb motherfucker slowed down with the truck, still blocking the truck.\n\nThe trucker blared his horn, and the Jeep simply honked back in response and didn't change his speed.\n\nNow, there's absolutely no way the Jeep driver couldn't have realized something was wrong. The tire that exploded was just about at the Jeep’s back bumper; I imagine pieces of tire would have struck the Jeep and the driver would have seen the white smoke in his mirrors.\n\nYou know. Assuming he had looked.\n\nI couldn't see the driver himself or what he was actually doing, but I have no doubt he was distracted by something, probably a cell phone. It's illegal for drivers to use their cell phone while driving in my state unless they're using it handsfree, like on speaker or Bluetooth. That law went into effect yesterday, but the DoT has been reminding drivers with signs for over a month previously.\n\nBut I digress.\n\nI was worried the truck driver would lose control of his truck. Yes, the truck had seventeen other wheels, but what if the explosion of the one tire caused damage to other tires? What if it damaged the wheel bearing or the axel? What if the truck had a full load and the weight pressing down on the tires unequally could cause serious problems? I was in an excellent position to get flattened by the truck if it lost control.\n\nI ran through options. I could speed up and tailgate the Jeep and honk my horn and hopefully force the Jeep out of the way, but that would put me in immediate danger. I drive a sedan; would the truck driver see my car once the Jeep passed? Would he know to look for my car, or would he move over immediately after seeing the Jeep pass?\n\nThat would be a bad move. I had to do something else.\n\nI backed off even more, putting more than a full truck's length between me and the Jeep, and slowed way down, putting on my hazard lights. At the same time, I beeped my horn a few times to get the trucker's attention and rapidly flashed my hi-beams. I was trying to tell him that I'd cleared enough space for him to fit through to the breakdown lane, and somehow, my message got through.\n\nBlasting his horn one more time for a good long time, the truck driver hit the brakes and was able to slow down just enough to get behind the Jeep before the Jeep driver could react, and successfully changed lanes and pulled over.\n\nI tried to get a look at the truck driver as I passed to give him a thumbs-up, but the truck was too high and I couldn't even see the door.\n\nI was terrified through the whole ordeal, which honestly only lasted about a minute but felt like an hour, but by that point, I was pissed.\n\nIf a vehicle honks, it's most likely because they're trying to warn you of something, like “I have an emergency situation and you're in the way!!” Why the hell would you honk back and not even check to see if something's wrong? There's no way he didn't know.\n\nPlus, I seriously doubt the Jeep driver didn't know what the truck driver was trying to do. A huge truck like that doesn't just have one directional light in the front and one in the back like a car; they've got a whole set of lights along the entire side! There's no way in hell he didn't see the directional light flashing.\n\nNo, he had simply decided to be an asshole.\n\nLook, you just don't fuck with huge trucks like that. They can destroy cars. They have, many times in the past. He put his life, my life, my baby's life, and the trucker's life at risk. Not to mention, driving on a blown tire is a great way to bend an axel, and an axel on a truck like that must cost thousands to replace.\n\nAnd I'm mad I didn't think to get the plate number or the description of the Jeep. It was a white Jeep, but how many of those are there on the road? And I never even glanced at the plate to know what state it was from. It could have been from anywhere; tourist season is just beginning and we get tourists from all over. And honestly, the more I think about it, it wasn't even necessarily a Jeep. It looked like one from a distance, but it might not have been that particular make.\n\nThis could have ended a whole lot worse. I mean, maybe I'm overreacting a little (thanks, pregnancy hormones, for turning minor things into major things!), but I really do feel my safety was at risk because of that asshole.",

I have spent around 20 years working with developers and I have seen countless of these talented developers grow their experience and also their pockets. This increases your value as a software developer thus increasing your salary as well.\n\nTo increase your skill sets by starting or continuing to learn or practice your tech language. Here are some  to help you start:\n\n\n\nI have seen some developers work really hard at work and still spend their free time learning or applying their craft. Those people are now senior and lead developers working with huge clients and earning the rate they deserve.\n\nExceptional Work Ethics\n\nWhat good is a senior developer if he or she can not work well with his or her team or employer? Being a team-player is necessary to foster good working relationships with your team and employer or client. An effective team-player is someone who actively and constructively communicates with his team, shares knowledge and helps the team, and shows commitment to the project. If you’re an offshore developer or if you’re working with one, good work ethics helps bridge the location gap and build a good long-lasting working relationship. Many of my outsourced developers at  have established good working relationships with their clients and are still working with them today.\n\nGrit\n\nThe two factors above will not exist without this. According to the Oxford dictionary, grit means “courage and resolve; strength of character”. In other words, this refers to a person’s patience and perseverance to do well, especially in the face of difficulty. Regardless of what career you have, the path to success will always be full of risks and challenges. To overcome them, you must work exceptionally hard to reach the top. Grit is what makes us excel with our craft and work well with our team and clients. It is the most basic component to success.       "body": "Picture the scene: You're on an Arctic expedition. There's 12 of you, of which one has a medical backround. That person, is yourself.\n\nWell, this is exactly the situation 27-year-old Leonid Rogozo was in on his expedition in the '60's. Unfortunately, after a short while there, he fell ill. He felt tired, he felt weak, and he had a searing pain down the right of his abdomen. Doctors of Quora, can you guess what was wrong?\n\nWell, the answer is, he had acute appendicitis! He had no issues diagnosing himself, and normally this would be one of the simplest procedures to perform. However, unfortunately for him, he was the only person that knew what to do. He knew he was in trouble. His appendix could burst at any moment, and the ship to bring them back to civilization wasn't due for another year.\n\nHe had a choice to make, and I think you can guess what it was:\n\nA: Die\n\nB: Cut out his own appendix\n\nHe had to cut open his own abdomen in order to perform this, and Rogozo recalls how he wasn't even sure if that was humanly possible! Despite this, he wasn't giving up! And the next day, after much preparation, the operation began.\n\nHe injected a local anaesthetic to his abdominal wall, but once he cut through, he could feel it all. The use of anything stronger was out of the question, as he had to keep a clear head.\n\nHe was scared, but once he had injected himself and started to cut, he apparently couldn't feel a thing. He switched into 'operating mode', as he calls it, and the pressure was so high that feeling pain just wasn't an option! He actually expressed sympathy for his assistants, saying 'My poor assistants. They stood there in their surgical whites, whiter than white themselves!'\n\nGiven how difficult my major self-surgery was when I had a slightly deep splinter I needed to get out, I can imagine this was quite hard! He was going to use mirrors, but he claimed the inverted view was 'too distracting'.\n\nHe thought he would fail. He was losing blood, and his consciousness was fading. He didn't fail though. After the two hour operation, he finally removed the cursed appendage, which he claimed was hours away from bursting.\n\nWow.",
