Happy Monday&nbsp;:)</p><p>We are the hellouni team and we are based in London, UK! We are a team of young entrepreneurs.</p><p><br></p><p>hellouni team has recently been experimenting with developing a decentralised and incentivised platform for students, especially for the international mobile students. The goal is to streamline all info, peer reviews and connection with real people within hellouni platform with tokenisation incentives. The platform will&nbsp;make the student experience more rewarding and productive. My name is Gergana and I recently graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK, with a degree in Marketing and Economics. Originally from Bulgaria,&nbsp;<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/2017/09/13/studying-abroad-increases-employment-prospects/\" target=\"_blank\">I have always aspired to further my education abroad</a>. Why did I choose the University of Strathclyde and what was it like, you may ask? Read on and experience the study abroad journey with me!</p><p><img src=\"https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/29/University_of_Strathclyde_Campus.jpg\"></p><p>Since you’re reading this article, you’re likely interested in studying at the University of Strathclyde. Therefore, let me start with my reasons for choosing it. In my last years of high school, I got interested in Marketing so I set out to find the best university that offered this programme. Nevertheless, I needed a university to which I could really get into (it’s your loss, Harvard!).</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>About University of Strathclyde</h2><p>Apart from being in the top 5 universities for Marketing in the United Kingdom, the University of Strathclyde offers great facilities. Here, you can enjoy a huge library, and the freedom to choose your own curriculum. In Year 1 students are introduced to all available subjects in the Business School. They are allowed to select the ones they would like to take on until the required credits are reached. I found this really enticing! I no longer had to go through boring classes and subjects I didn’t want to study until I reach what I was interested in.</p><p>That’s also how I found my love and appreciation for Economics. I knew that even if I didn’t do well at it, I could always switch my minor to another subject in the second year. Year 1 is more like a trial. Plus, there are no final exams in the first year unless your grades fall below 55%. Therefore, you can get extra-long holidays (great if you’re feeling homesick).</p><p><br></p><h2>Not everything is that easy in this University</h2><p>I won’t lie to you, sometimes it can get really busy. There were periods when seemingly nothing was happening, and periods, when I had several projects and exams, lined up. However, with proper time management and planning, one quickly gets used to the pace of learning. P.S. remember to pick up an academic diary before the start of lectures! In line with the way the British higher education system is organized, the University of Strathclyde also puts great emphasis on individual learning. This means very few classes and a lot of (seemingly) free time. While you should use most of it for studying, this opens others opportunities.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>Different ways to use your free time in University</h2><p>Most students like to volunteer, work part-time, or get an internship. It’s not difficult to get a part-time job but it might take you a while. Glasgow has an enormous student population and at the start of the year, everyone is looking for a job. Make sure you visit the Careers Service to get advice on CVs, applications, and interview preparation.</p><p><br></p><h2>Application process for University of Strathclyde</h2><p>When I was making my university application, I got some help from a consultancy firm but that’s not really necessary nowadays with the abundance of information you can get –&nbsp;<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/2018/02/06/everything-you-need-to-know-about-studying-abroad-in-the-uk/\" target=\"_blank\">just look around our blog</a>! There was no entrance exam. My application consisted of a motivation letter, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, a certificate in English (usually IELTS, but a Cambridge certificate works just as well) and a translated high school diploma. Your grades must be above a certain threshold to apply but what is most important is that you’re able to show your interest in the desired subject. Also, your way of thinking, and any extracurricular activities you’ve participated in.</p><p>What I found the most challenging was&nbsp;<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/2017/10/19/personal-statement/\" target=\"_blank\">writing the motivation letter</a>&nbsp;– I had never before written one and I had to rewrite mine several times to get it right. Let me give you some advice in case you’re anything like me. The motivation letter is a lot like a job application. Here, you need to list your recent achievements, work experience, interests, personal qualities, anything that relates to your desired course.       "body": "<p>I’m Kirsten and I study French &amp; German at the University of Glasgow. I am currently in my 5th&nbsp;year and will be graduating in June 2018.&nbsp;</p><p>Here’s what you need to know about my degree at the University of Glasgow:</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>About University of Glasgow</h2><p>Founded in 1451, University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world. It is currently a member of an international network of research universities (&nbsp;<a href=\"http://www.universitas21.com/\" target=\"_blank\">Universitas 21</a>) and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https://successatschool.org/advicedetails/341/What-Are-the-Russell-Group-Universities%3F\" target=\"_blank\">Russell Group</a>.&nbsp;Many influential figures have studied or worked at the University of Glasgow including three British Prime Ministers, the pioneer of television John Logie Baird, and more recently actor Gerard Butler and singer Emeli Sandé.</p><p>The university boasts world-class sporting facilities and one of the best libraries in Europe. Moreover, it offers a diverse range of subject disciplines offered at undergraduate and postgraduate level.&nbsp;The University encourages its students to think of themselves as “<a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb41GAgBoh4\" target=\"_blank\">World Changers”</a>&nbsp;and offers bursaries and scholarships to support students financially along the way.</p><p>The university is situated in the fashionable West End of Glasgow. It is just a stone’s throw away from the city center. The West End is home to numerous cafés, pubs, music venues, and vintage shops. It is widely regarded as a sort of&nbsp;<em>‘hipster paradise.</em>’</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>National Geographic Traveller voted Glasgow the “<em>coolest city in the UK”.&nbsp;</em>It&nbsp;could be due in part to the impressive selection of music events across a range of genres on show throughout the year. Nevertheless, its reputation for the best shopping outside of London and its lively inhabitants. Glasgow was also voted the friendliest city in the world by readers of&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.roughguides.com/gallery/the-worlds-friendliest-cities-as-voted-by-you/\" target=\"_blank\">Rough guides</a>&nbsp;and Conde Nast Traveler magazine.</p><p><img src=\"http://hellouni.world/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Picture1.png\"></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><h2>French &amp; German</h2><p>I made the decision to do a joint honors degree combining French and German but it is possible to study either as a single honors subject. This will not have any impact on the length of time your degree takes to complete, as five years is the standard duration of an MA<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/home/blog/page/3/\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;languages degree</a>&nbsp;at the University of Glasgow.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>1st Year</h2><p>In the first year, the course is structured as a split between language and culture. In the language modules, you will attend written and spoken classes. You can expect weekly&nbsp;translations, grammar homework, and preparation for spoken classes. In the culture modules, you will cover topics such as literature, history, and cinema to introduce you to key aspects of the culture</p><h2><br></h2><h2><br></h2><h2>2nd Year</h2><p>In the second year, you will expand your linguistic skills as the translation texts and spoken language topics become more complex. You will also study key themes in the society and culture of your chosen language. In your second year, you will be preparing for your year abroad, and it is worth noting that you will have to attain a certain language grade in order to go abroad in your 3rd&nbsp;Year.</p><p>&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>3rd Year (Study Abroad)</h2><p>This year will be spent in the country, or one of the countries, where your chosen language is spoken. Most students either spend this time working for the British council or studying in an<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/2018/02/07/reasons-why-student-should-not-go-for-study-abroad/\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;Erasmus</a>&nbsp;program at one of University of Glasgow’s partner universities.</p><p>I went to France during my year abroad and worked as a teaching assistant in a high school in Paris.</p><p>The university expects that during your year abroad you will immerse yourself in the language and culture. You will not have any exams or coursework this year but I would advise that you still regularly check your university emails in case there is anything important that comes up</p><p><br></p><h2>4th Year</h2><p>When you return from your year abroad you are able to choose your own culture modules based on your interests. There is a range of different options from literature, cinema, and history.&nbsp;</p><p>If you are a joint honors student, you will leave to spend at least 3 months in the country, or one of the countries, where your second language subject is spoken. Again, you can choose to do a semester at one of the partner universities or get an internship. In my case, I spent 6 months working in Germany.</p><p>It is worth noting that in this year, all your grades for your culture modules count towards your final mark.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>5th Year</h2><p>This is your final year and is when you write your dissertation.This is your most important year and it is markedly more stressful because this is your last chance to improve your language skills before your final exams. This is why it is very important that you make the most of your time abroad because it will make your 5th&nbsp;year much easier and less stressful! As one of my tutors said, “<em>you can’t cram a language</em>” and unlike other degree subjects, you will not be able to study just for your final exams.</p><p><br></p><h2>Expectations Vs. Reality</h2><p>University is enjoyable and I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have had over the course of my degree. However, contrary to how languages degrees are depicted by the media and the pretty photos of exotic places you see on&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/kirsten.mb/\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a>. A&nbsp;languages degree is not easy and will require a lot of dedication. Perhaps so than other degrees as you will be required to live abroad for a year at least.       "body": "<p>声明：本文由在伦敦大学学院数学经济专业系Blake学长分享❤️</p><h3><br></h3><h3>我，是谁🕴🏼👨🏻‍💻？</h3><p>大家好，我是伦敦大学学院（UCL）数学经济专业（Math with Econ）的学生。数学系应该是中国人最多的，占比能达到50%左右。UCL对数学系学生的入学要求相对比较严格，一般是A*A*A的A—level成绩要求，其中Further Math一定要达到A*。Imperial College 与UCL的录取条件基本是一致的，但两个学校各有各的特点。IC更多是学术很强，压力较大，花在学术的时间会比较多。UCL相对可能会Social一些，课程安排相对好一些些，但也不算非常轻松，不过至少还是有较多时间去发展别的兴趣。</p><h3><br></h3><h3>申请数学专业要三思而后行，主要原因如下</h3><p>1. Offer要求较高，风险较高。不乏许多很强很聪明的学生因为Further Math失手没拿到A*而失之交臂。而Further Math的分数线也是水涨船高，一年比一年高，本人那一届的分数线为两卷189(每卷满分100)。上一年是193。可能因为中国学生实在太强，分数一年比一年高。</p><p>2. 选数学系要做好文理兼修的准备。大学的数学课不再是初高中的解方程集合运算等典型数学题。更多地是枯燥的理论和证明。一年下来Final涉及的考点会有几十个proof，你还得会活用。许多留学生进来之后都感到不适应，更多像文科，需要花较多的时间去记忆。</p><p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://wx2.sinaimg.cn/large/006pxaQzgy1fof8sqejxjj30qo0zkta7.jpg\"></p><p><br></p><h3>关于申请，有以下几点建议</h3><p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;有申请UCL的成绩要求最好去尝试一下牛津。牛津的面试考试MAT是一个加分项。如果在最后的Further Math考试中差一点达标，这个会是你argue的筹码</p><p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Step一定要考。UCL的offer中会明确指出Step的成绩可以用来弥补Further Math的失误。Step达到某个要求，Further Math只需要考到A就行了。（这就很舒服了）本人当时就是Further Math 差一分，用Step来补足。Step达标是不需要argue的。</p><p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;PS不要吹水。实话实说就行了。UCL不太看重PS，但如果你写了一些你自己不懂的东西，被某个教授相中了可能会被要求面试，但如果他发现你其实在弄虚作假会认为你不真诚，就会被拒绝。所以不要冒这个险。如果足够出色，真的在某个方面有深入的研究，就最好写进去，这是一个优势。</p><p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://wx3.sinaimg.cn/large/006pxaQzgy1fof8ufviyxj30qo0zkwfj.jpg\"></p><p>希望我的分享能帮到你们😊，在UCL有你们的身影👍，谢谢。</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><br/><hr/><div>Posted by <a href=\"https://connect.hellouni.world\" target=\"_blank\">Yunjia from hellouni platform</a></div><br/><hr/><a href=\"https://connect.hellouni.world\" target=\"_blank\"><img src=\"https://res.cloudinary.com/hellouni/image/upload/c_scale,w_180/v1503870163/HelloUni_Border_3x_eodldw.png\"/></a><hr/>",

Asking for help is okay</h3><p>At some point, all of us have experienced what it’s like to listen to a teacher/lecturer but not really hear anything. Sometimes it’s inevitable. What you will come to realize is that it’s okay to reach out to your lecturers, teachers, and tutors and ask for clarification on your coursework or other important things. Therefore,&nbsp;<a href=\"http://hellouni.world/\" target=\"_blank\">@Hellouni</a>&nbsp;is providing some tips on how abroad student can receive international scholarships, save and earn money at the same time as studying.</p><h3>Scholarships</h3><p>Most of the Universities in the UK are providing individual scholarships just for international students. These annual scholarships are usually varying from £3,000 to even £10,000. However, United Kingdom's universities only provide these scholarships for students with significant academic achievement and financial needs. For example, every upcoming student needs to decide where he/she wants to live (campus accommodation or renting a flat), transport options (underground, bus or bicycle) and eating the budget.&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.ucas.com/\" target=\"_blank\">@UCAS</a>&nbsp;is providing some of the general costs below: £25 to £30 – a typical weekly food bill £22.30 – seven day Oyster travel card on the London underground, Docklands Light Railway and London Overground (includes 30% student discount) £6.55 – peak hour cinema ticket £5 – English breakfast at a café or pub £2.80 – premium take-away sandwich.</p><h3><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/http://hellouni.world/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Untitled-design-1.png\"></h3><h3>Saving tips</h3><p>Make sure to benefit from various discounts by using your student card.
