      "body": "For this past week’s [Twitch stream](http://Twitch.tv/Hellchick), we worked on making batts — these are flat “pillows” of fiber prepared for spinning into yarn and made on a drumcarder. Drumcarding my alpaca fleece allows me to easily blend it with other fibers. For this project, I dyed a 50/50 blend of Merino sheep wool and silk with two different blue dyes. I then blended that with alpaca from our herd member Silverton, who has beautiful fleece that ranges from gray to silver to black. The result: “Silverton’s Blue Lagoon”, a 50/25/25 blend of alpaca/Merino/silk with a blue-gray sheen. I’m spinning some for a sample now and it looks and feels great. Over the weekend I dyed enough Superwash Blue-Faced Leicester sheep wool in Sky Blue and Turquoise to make about six ounces of fiber. I blended it on the blending hackle with black alpaca from our herd member Benz and some nylon for durability. Last night on stream we began spinning it up. Can’t wait to finish this beautiful colorway!",

      "body": "In my (last post)[https://steemit.com/alpacas/@hellchick/meet-my-alpacas] I introduced two of my four alpacas, Silverton and Benz. We have a small herd of four, so today I’d like to introduce you to the other two, Cinnamon and Sarge, and tell you a little about the yarns I’ve made from their fleece.\n\n## Cinnamon\n![IMG_3782.jpeg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYz7Ysfwc3gz7siyhyJjTufaGmaK64ioK88fZqDUw6kSK/IMG_3782.jpeg)\n\nCinnamon is feisty. His name comes from the cinnamon-colored patches of color on his nose and tail — everywhere else, his fleece is white. He’s the wiliest of all of our alpacas — when it comes time for shearing or toenail-trimming (in another post I’ll talk about how we do those), he starts humming up a storm. Alpacas hum, and each alpaca hums for different reasons. For Cinnamon, the reason is usually because he’s annoyed that we’re about to put a halter on him. \n\nBecause his fleece is white, I tend to do a lot of dyeing with the yarns I make from his fiber. We added him to the herd when our oldest alpaca, Indie, passed away last year. I knew I wanted to have a brown alpaca in the herd, and his fleece is a beautiful red-brown.       "body": "Good morning, Steemians! As I mentioned in my introduction post, I'm a VR designer by day, but my hobby is raising alpacas and making my own yarn from their fleece. And I promised I'd write a post introducing my alpacas -- so today let's meet Silverton and Benz, two of the four alpacas in our herd, and show some examples of things I've made from their fleece.\n\n## Silverton\n\n![Silverton (1).jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWMcyr7RKdu2KzYAhxZmKB4aFsh9kHGUiaS8BJ5M6FhGD/Silverton%20(1).jpg)\n\nSilverton is our oldest alpaca at 14 years old and is the de facto herd leader, even though one of our other alpacas (Cinnamon) seems to think *he's* the herd leader. Silverton is shy but friendly enough to eat minerals out of your hand. His fleece is a beautiful -- it's a heathered silvery gray with black tips, which makes it a joy to spin and blend with other fibers. Looking a bit like a cow with his black and white coloring, Benz has huge, brown eyes and loves to get right up in front of you and stare at you with a look that says, \"you wouldn't happen to have any treats in your pocket, would you?\" He's the friendliest and easiest-going member of our herd -- we called him \"our learning alpaca\" because he was so patient with us as we learned to put halters on, trim toenails, and herd into trailers. \n\nHis black blanket (the part of the fleece that drapes over the back, which is considered the best fleece on an alpaca) is exceptionally soft, and it lends itself well to all kinds of uses in spinning yarn.
