| title | Guides: What is a dApp |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Decentralized-Application.jpg

During the last year that we have been talking about virtual currencies and blockchain technology, we have heard different terms and words that we may not know what they are or how they work. One of these definitions is related to Decentralized Applications, also known as dApps. But what exactly dApps are and how do they work?
What is a dApp?
A decentralized application is a program (which we call application) that runs on a P2P network of computers, instead of doing it on a single computer. They have been created in a way that is not controlled by any single entity. Users and providers are connected directly, there is no need for intermediaries. For example, Uber or other similar applications are the intermediaries between two individuals. But dApps do not require a centralized server that will connect two persons. One of the most important platforms for dApps is known as Ethereum, which is one of the most used blockchain networks in the world. According to Ethereum’s white paper, there are three different dApps: applications that work by managing money, applications where money is involved (but they do require another piece), and applications that include voting and governance systems. The first kind of dApp works when a user wants to exchange Ether so as to settle a contract with another party. The network uses distributed computer nodes in order to facilitate the distribution data. In order to execute the smart contracts, it is necessary to rely on the ‘oracles’ that relay up-to-date information about the world. Traditional applications tend to have weak security systems, while decentralized applications solve these concerns. The essential components that the network uses are decentralized, this improves fault tolerance and makes it impossible and expensive to attack it. Blockchain technology is able to provide fast, efficient and an affordable way to process and store big and important data. It is important to mark that Bitcoin, Litecoin and other important cryptocurrencies are decentralized applications. They work in a decentralized way to send and receive payments in virtual currencies.
How do they Work?
All dApps need to have a consensus algorithm like Proof of Work (PoW), or Proof of Stake (PoS). Those are the most important ones, but there are other algorithms out in the market. With PoW, decisions and consensus are reached with the work that each of the individuals in the network does. Proof of Work is known as mining operations. Interested parties control the network and receive a reward in cryptocurrencies when they register an important number of transactions. The other mechanism is proof of stake, which is slightly different than the proof of work mentioned before. The decision about changes on the dApps depends on the number of tokens that a stakeholder owns. Those who stake these currencies are able to gain rewards by staking them and securing the network. The main difference with the mining activities is that it consumes much less energy than mining operations, which have been attacked for the increased amount of energy required.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/guides-what-is-a-dapp/

|

| title | Korean Banks Ready to Use ID Verification Platform Built on the Blockchain |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/South-Korea.jpg

South Korean banks seem to be ready to embrace blockchain technology to improve their services and processes. This time, the intention is to verify their customer’s identities using a blockchain identity verification system that will be developed by the Korea Federation Banks (KFB) and will be applied since July 2018. Banks are showing their interest in embracing a technology that is being used all over the world by several enterprises. One of the most important sectors that are going to suffer from the rapid growth of virtual currencies and blockchain solutions is the banking industry. There are different ways to improve services and be competitive, and banks are investing in distributed ledger technology to improve their services and products offered to their clients. Because of the ‘Digital Signature Act’ policy that applies in South Korea, banks in the Asian country had to use a 20-year-old ineffective public banking security system that is now trying to be replaced for more modern platforms. This is why the government decided to reverse this policy and change the landscape. As reported by the local news source JoongAng Daily, the new system is known as BankSign and can be used in computers or mobile phones. Indeed, it may help banks offering a new ID verification system to their clients. A spokesperson from KFB commented about this implementation:
“BankSign is the first project co-developed by the local banking sector utilizing blockchain technology.”
The BankSign has been built on top of Nexledger, an important enterprise that has been made by Samsung’s Enterprise Solution (SDS) division. The solution uses a biometric authentication system that helps customers gain access to different services using a single ID authentication. In the past, Nexledger has been used and applied to other companies and financial platforms. For example, Samsung used it in late 2016 with the Samsung Card. The KFB has been established back in 1984 and the entity represents commercial banks in South Korea. The institution includes important financial institutions in the Asian market like Shinhan and Woori. BankSign will be working with different institutions, including governments, other financial entities and public organizations. The FKB spokesperson explained:
“While BankSign will start off by providing the service in the banking sector, we will work with the government and other public organization to expand its usage.”
South Korea has been working very hard in order to regulate the crypto market. The Asian country was one of the most active in cryptocurrency trading activities, but the government decided that it was not possible to leave it without regulations. Banks that work with crypto-related firms need to present important information about their clients, and cryptocurrency exchanges need to comply with strict Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti Money Laundering (AML) policies. Another important decision taken by the South Korean authorities was to totally ban Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) from spreading in the country. Because of this some companies that were thinking about issuing their own tokens decided to leave the country in order to search for better regulatory environments.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/south-korean-banks-implement-blockchain-technology/

|

| title | According to Research Tether May Have Been Used to Manipulate Bitcoin’s Price |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/tether.jpg

There have been several rumors regarding Bitcoin and its price. Was it manipulated as some regulatory agencies around the world are pointing? Well, according to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Texas at Austin, Tether (USDT) manipulated Bitcoin prices.
Tether and Bitcoin a Story of Manipulation
A professor at the University of Texas that specializes in finding fraud in financial markets, revealed in a paper that Tether has been used in the exchange Bitfinex to help Bitcoin price when it dipped. Tether is one of the most important virtual currencies in the market, but it is a special one. It has been created as a stable coin that helps users in crypto-to-crypto exchanges hedge against volatility in the market. The currency is tethered to the US Dollars, which means that it has a price of 1 USD per coin, and it does not change if Bitcoin falls or grows, the price will always be stable. According to the enterprise behind Tether, for each USDT in the market, there is a physical US dollar backing it. The problem is that the company was never able to prove that, and audits were conducted without so much credibility about that. The report says that Tether has been used during market crashes to support bitcoin’s price. Several times when the market was down, Tether decided to print USDT, send them to the Bitfinex exchange, and help Bitcoin’s price to stabilize.
Bitfinex Chief Executive Officer JL van der Velde, commented in a statement: “Bitfinex nor Tether is, or has ever, engaged in any sort of market or price manipulation. Tether issuances cannot be used to prop up the price of Bitcoin or any other coin/token on Bitfinex.”
When Bitcoin’s rice fell, said one of the experts that wrote the paper, purchases with Tether tended to increase, helping to reverse the decline. But if Bitcoin started to grow again, the reverse effect did not occur. That means that Tether was mainly used to sustain bitcoin when falling, and let it grow when trading in a bull market. Moreover, John Griffin, one of the co-authors of the paper, explained that Bitcoin purchases using Tether increased just below multiples of 500. But an interesting thing that is linked with it is the fact that the pattern is only present in periods after the printing of Tether, and in the Bitfinex exchange. At the moment of writing this article, Bitfinex is one of the most important cryptocurrency exchanges in the world handling more than $860 million dollars in the last 24 hours. The most important trading pairs on the exchange are BTC/USD, ETH/USD and EOS/USD accounting for almost 70% of the total trading volume. Bitfinex has 79 different trading pairs that include important currencies like Bitcoin Cash, IOTA, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, Monero, NEO, and Zcash.
“The hype in cryptocurrencies isn’t just 20-year-olds buying Bitcoin in their garage,” Griffin said. “But there are big players moving the market and having a huge price impact.”

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/tether-was-used-to-manipulate-bitcoins-price/

|

Bitfinex has 79 different trading pairs that include important currencies like Bitcoin Cash, IOTA, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, Monero, NEO, and Zcash.\r\n\r\n \r\n

",

| title | South African Fin-Tech company Launches Blockchain Initial Coin Offering to disrupt lending market. |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/BlockchainPSI.png

South African Fin-Tech company Launches Blockchain Initial Coin Offering to disrupt the lending market. The greatest agent for change in disempowered communities is access to capital and nowhere is this more apparent than in Africa and other emerging market economies. Disclaimer: This is a guest post submission and does not reflect the views of Bitcoin Hub Access to capital enables consumers to build homes, improve access to markets, education & services. It enables them to create wealth, build businesses or access health services not previously available, resulting in a sustainable improvement in the quality of life. In most emerging markets lenders suffer extremely high default rates, resulting in inflated interest rates. These costs have to be recouped and are blended into the overall business model of the lender. Even in well regulated, economically and structurally sound emerging markets where capital is readily accessible, low-risk consumers are penalised. To offset poor lending practices these consumers have to endure paying higher interest rates, are subject to restrictive exit clauses and fees, in order to mitigate the risks for lenders against the poor elements of their debt books. PSI’s systems manage the administration of millions of transactions monthly ensuring seamless & ethically processed payroll deductions for over 180,000 civil society and corporate employees in sub-Saharan markets through its Affordability Deduction Management Platform (ADMP). The ADMP system is proven, has been in-market for six years in countries including Uganda, Botswana, Malawi & South Africa and is earmarked for expansion to further developing markets around the globe. Payment Solutions International conducted an internal research study to review the state of indebtedness within its consumer base and found startling results. PSI identified key financial megatrends and identified the need for urgent intervention to reverse the debt trap cycle that is driving otherwise good consumers into poverty.
How Private Market Credit Extension Should Function
PSI has noted that the consumers in its ecosystem have near a 99.6% collectability rate, which means creditors that process deductions from employers payrolls are virtually assured of collection. Despite this, the company found that most of these customers were underserved and were paying extremely high interest rates. As not all consumers have the same risk profile low-risk borrowers should receive preferential personalized service and rates, but the ADMP processed payroll deduction credit agreements were receiving the same market rates as generally available through retail lenders. PSI inferred this to mean that the high-value clients in PSI’s ecosystem were being used cross-subsidize the risk of subprime loans issued to riskier borrowers. PSI approached various lenders to solicit responses and encourage them to adjust their interest rates, considering the lowered risk status and though lenders acknowledge the validity of the new lower risk model no significant change has been affected. To drive change in the consumer lending practices PSI has created the PSI Investment Fund, which will be funded by means of a Cryptocurrency Initial Coin Offering (ICO). The first round of the ICO to be held in October 2018 aims to float 25 Million Preference Shares in Payment Solutions International Limited at a price of $1 each. These funds will be deployed through partner financial services providers into lower-cost loans for consumers within the ADMP ecosystem. It is the company’s belief that this will, in turn, create fiercer competition in the marketplace and drive down the cost of capital for all consumers, delivering meaningful change and greater access to low-cost capital for our customers. Investors in the PSI ICO will earn dividends on the income of the company each year. Prior to the ICO, the company will be filing it’s registered prospectus in terms of the Companies Act and this will form part of its public offer for the subscription of shares. | title | Will Africa Ride The Cryptocurrency Wave |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Africa.jpg

Cryptocurrency to most people and institutions in Africa is a very big, and intimidating word. Like all new technologies, the concept of digital currencies remains an abstract idea to a lot of people, ushering in change and attempts to alter the status quo. Disclaimer: The following article is a guest post and does not necessarily reflect the views of Bitcoin Hub. But the truth remains unchanged whether we are ready or not, change happens. Those who take advantage of this change will get the benefit as early adopters. Now, this opportunity is now presented to Africans. The question now is not about cryptocurrency, the question is now is that they are going to harness the full power of this opportunity or not? At the beginning of trade in Africa, they travel across lands and water for trade. The farmers from the west had cocoa; the nomads from the north had camels and other resources. Each measured the value of their goods or service and agreed to the exchange. “Trade by batter was born”. Then gold came, and other resources so people started using this as a form of trading, then promissory notes came, which were convertible based on the value of gold, or silver the issuer of the gold had in their vault. All these evolved into what we now call money today, and the unit of that money we derive from either the dollar, euro, pound even yen at the minute. Now cryptocurrency has landed at the doorsteps of Africans. Bitcoin became the first decentralized cryptocurrency in 2009. Now there are over 1500 active cryptocurrencies that are trading for various values aimed at solving various problems all over the world at the moment. Africa is missing out the game once more because they are trying to figure out how to keep that they already have rather than think of how they can adopt these new solutions, and also protect their consumers. In Africa, there are numerous problems of trade and movement of money because of the borders that are created by the colonists that still guide their ability to move money around today. You will find that most of their policies and laws dating back to the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Blockchain technology helps them to solve some of these problems by providing Smart Contracts, Security data solution and Cryptocurrency, and much more. Inflation is a huge problem in Africa and as we can see some of the countries in this continent struggle with managing the inflation rate on their fiat currencies i.e South Sudan which has an inflation rate of over 280%. Over the past 12 months, the African market has seen the emergence of more than 15 Bitcoin exchanges seeking to provide cheap and efficient trading services to African consumers. Some exchanges have expanded their services and have established an office in Africa to serve the new market and observe the demand for Bitcoin in several African countries. The Central Bank of Nigeria, which oversees an inflation rate of 12-14%, recently announced that they cannot stop Bitcoin. Their statement read: “Central bank cannot control or regulate bitcoin. A central bank cannot control a decentralized cryptocurrency. Just the same way no one is going to control or regulate the Internet. We don’t own it.” This is very sensible and the correct and forward-looking approach. For the first time, open-minded early adopters and innovators in Africa can change the game, and begin to create value for them on this continent. This is the time that Africans should adopt digital currency and get rid of all the problems like one of the biggest problem inflation rate and should also choose Best Bitcoin Wallet to store their Bitcoins. African entrepreneurs must embrace digital currencies, and find ways to make sure that they have owned their future rather than having someone else come into this continent once more to give them food.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/africa-riding-cryptocurrency-wave/

|

| title | Korean Crypto Exchange Coinrail Suffers Theft – Markets Down |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/hack.jpg

A South Korean cryptocurrency exchange known as Coinrail has been hacked for over $40 billion won (488 billion South African Rands). Apparently, the company announced on Sunday, June the 10th that it suffered an attack and that they were investigating the situation. After it, on Monday, it confirmed to the community that it suspended its services following a ‘cyber intrusion’ on its platform. The company did not inform the exact amount stolen but mentioned some of the affected tokens such as NPXS, ATC, and NPER. As per information released by Pundi X (the company behind NPXS), more than 2.6 billion NPXS tokens have been stolen with an approximate value of R256 Million (ZAR). According to data from a wallet address that is associated to the hacker, has moved 93 million ATX tokens and 831 million DENT coins. These currencies are worth over R1.3 billion South African Rand. Other tokens related to projects like Jibrel Network, Storm, Kyber Network, B2BCoin, and Tron have also been stolen. According to Reuters, representative Kim Jin-Hwa explained:
“Coinrail is not a member of the group that promotes self regulation to enhance security. It is a minor player in the market and I can see how such a small exchanges with lower standards on security level can be exposed to more risks.”
This is not the first time that a crypto exchange is hacked in this way. During this year we have witnessed how CoinCheck and BitGrail, two important crypto exchanges, have been affected by similar hacks. CoinCheck has lost $6,578 billion ZAR in NEM tokens, which is now the 15th most important currency in the market. BitGrail, an Italian cryptocurrency platform based on Nano, lost $2,565 billion ZAR after suffering a similar attack. Most of the funds of these two attacks were not able to be recovered, which is very frustrating for users that put their trust in a third party platform like an exchange, after these hacks, the Japanese Financial Services Agency decided to impose stronger regulations to crypto-related companies and crypto exchanges. The intention is to have clear rules in case these situations happen again and to reduce the risk for investors that place their funds in these platforms. At press time there is no further information about Conrail's hack.
Cryptocurrency Market Operates Negatively
After the hack, Bitcoin dropped over 13% in a very short period of time. It passed from $7,650 to $6,630 in the Bitfinex exchange. At the moment of writing this article, and after 24 hours since the hack happened, the market cannot recover from it. Bitcoin it is currently being traded around $6,700 dollars with almost no change compared to 24 hours ago. Ethereum, the second most important virtual currency is also losing 2.57% and each Ether currency can be bought for $520 dollars. No top 10 virtual currency was able to operate positively in the last day. The total crypto market capitalization has also fallen under $300 billion dollars, its lowest point since March 2018.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/coinrail-cryptocurrency-exchange-hacked/

|

Other tokens related to projects like Jibrel Network, Storm, Kyber Network, B2BCoin, and Tron have also been stolen.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAccording to Reuters, representative Kim Jin-Hwa explained:\r\n
“Coinrail is not a member of the group that promotes self regulation to enhance security. It is a minor player in the market and I can see how such a small exchanges with lower standards on security level can be exposed to more risks.”
\r\n \r\n\r\nThis is not the first time that a crypto exchange is hacked in this way. During this year we have witnessed how CoinCheck and BitGrail, two important crypto exchanges, have been affected by similar hacks. CoinCheck has lost $6,578 billion ZAR in NEM tokens, which is now the 15th most important currency in the market. BitGrail, an Italian cryptocurrency platform based on Nano, lost $2,565 billion ZAR after suffering a similar attack.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nMost of the funds of these two attacks were not able to be recovered, which is very frustrating for users that put their trust in a third party platform like an exchange, after these hacks, the Japanese Financial Services Agency decided to impose stronger regulations to crypto-related companies and crypto exchanges. The intention is to have clear rules in case these situations happen again and to reduce the risk for investors that place their funds in these platforms.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAt press time there is no further information about Conrail's hack.\r\n\r\n \r\n
Cryptocurrency Market Operates Negatively
\r\nAfter the hack, Bitcoin dropped over 13% in a very short period of time. No top 10 virtual currency was able to operate positively in the last day.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe total crypto market capitalization has also fallen under $300 billion dollars, its lowest point since March 2018.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/coinrail-cryptocurrency-exchange-hacked/

",

| title | Cryptocurrency a solution for African Payments Woes? |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/cryptocurrency-1.jpg

New technology often creates a rift between those who have it and those who don’t. You don’t see a great need for garden caretaking services or mobile food delivery apps in improvised countries. Nor there is demand for driverless taxis in regions which have no roads. However, there is one potential area where technology can help those which are living in underdeveloped parts and that is digital currency or cryptocurrency. There is a genuine need for a secure way to make payments across the borders, the technology is in great need where most people are poor, and the majority do not have bank accounts like Africa. Today only 41 percent of adults in developing countries have an account and this number drops to over 20 percent among adults living in extreme poverty. Essentially peoples living in these regions rely on cash to carry out their transactions, and to conduct their daily businesses from accepting payments for services and goods to paying for everything including food, education, shelter, and healthcare. The problem with these financial methods is that they can be insecure. An additional consequence for people who are unbanked is that they cannot get credit. Lacking formal financial relationships, no institution will lend them money. As the old saying goes, “necessity is the mother of invention”. That is indeed the case with Africans they have found a way to get around these cashless problems. The African region is expected to have 500 million cell phone subscribers by 2020. In fact, Kenya, Namibia, Zimbabwe have now more than 40 percent of adults using mobile banking, according to GSM association. Now people are making bill payments, mobile top-ups and international remittances with the help of their cell phones. Mobile operators in the region today are using mobile money to create new financial ecosystems that can deliver a range of innovative new services across multiple industry sectors, including utilities and agriculture.
Why cryptocurrencies will flourish in Africa
It’s hard to expect wide cryptocurrency adoption in a continent where a significant percentage of the population do not have bank accounts, but several indications show that cryptocurrencies will survive in Africa. First, the fact that more than 40 percent of adults actively use mobile money and P2P payment systems in most parts of Africa indicate that low usage of bank accounts isn’t mainly a technology issue. Second, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are already achieving wide appeal in several African countries: in Nigeria, for example, P2P Bitcoin trading increased by about 1,500 percent in 2017 — a percentage only surpassed by China on a global scale. Now Africans are investing heavily in bitcoins for investment purposes because this is the only available mean for safe investments and also use Best Bitcoin Wallets to store your precious Bitcoins. In Zimbabwe, a country that experienced a currency crisis that saw its economy collapse, citizens turned to cryptocurrencies as a store of value, and the African nation once had the highest Bitcoin prices in the world. In South Africa, over 1,000 merchants already accept Bitcoin as a means of payment. Finally, the huge projected growth in cell phone usage in Africa is only good news for cryptocurrency adoption.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/cryptocurrency-a-solution-for-african-payments-woes/

|

| title | Cryptocurrencies Could Leapfrog Africa Into The Future |
| body |
https://bitcoinhub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/change.jpg

Africa and its banking sector have always had its issues. The infrastructure of banks struggle due to remote nature of the continent, but mass adoption of cryptocurrency could see many marginalized people empowered through digital currency. Cryptocurrency is being adopted in developed countries as the next form of money, but it is locked in a fight with powerful financial sectors, but in the developing countries that sector is broken and ripe for mutiny. The traditional banking sector is implanted across Africa as in the European countries due to colonization. But Africa infrastructure and government policies do not make this system efficient in any way. Banks have been imposed on Africans as a necessity, however, they are difficult to use and unsuited to their conditions. The leapfrogging of technology has happened before in Africa as many citizens of the continent simply skipped the part of owning a landline as they were expensive and difficult to set up in rural areas, but mobile phones suited Africa much more, as would cryptocurrencies. African Bitcoin and cryptocurrency market have taken deepen roots in the country. The people are taking a balanced approach to the cryptocurrency and many are using as a store of wealth. Additionally, countries like Nigeria and Zimbabwe are breaking boundaries with its volume of Bitcoin traded, so Africans that choose Buy Bitcoins will most likely be creating a better future for themselves. The benefits of African exchanges and cryptocurrency is being noted, especially when it comes to cross-border trade and payment. Since the internet and telecommunication infrastructure is very advanced across the country – far more advanced and accessible than banking. Because the banking sector in Africa is heavily flawed, Africa is at a huge advantage when it comes to picking up a replacement technology, especially one as a cryptocurrency. Many Africans do not have access to bank accounts and as such their economic freedom is severely hampered. Bureaucratic tenors and economic exclusion, amongst others, have paved the way for this situation. The good thing is that we now have a chance to reprogram the social constructs and systems we have created around the FIAT monetary system. Africa is in a unique position to create a new system using cryptocurrency technologies where no functioning system currently exists, this could potentially see rapid adoption in the region.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://bitcoinhub.co.za/africa-leapfrog-into-future-thanks-cryptocurrency/

|
