The goal in our pantomime is to decrease suspicion and increase the peace felt by the locals, who we'll assume fear the absolute worse. Envision this kind of role play as you are suiting up for an adventure like superhero superstoners of nature, sowing seeds of happiness, somewhere secretly in the sunlight. We must get our motive, character and costume in alignment to be believable. What props do you have around you already? Could you pull off the “mountain biker” look? Not if you don't have a bike, or there's no mountains near your basket to stash a bike in the bushes. While walking the dog is a convenient cover story for early reconnaissance stages, there will come a time where you'll be hacking deep into the thorns and stinging bushes, so for this phase it's less cumbersome if you leave your pooch at home. Do you have a backpack and rain jacket? How about a pair of athletic gym shoes or hiking boots? We want to know our alibi inside out. The reason our gorilla with a gun pretends to hunt the flatlands, was simply because he owned a very basic air rifle, a teenage toy more suitable for shooting tin cans off the wall. He never killed a single rabbit, he'd feel bad. He didn't own a bike, and the land around was flat. And he owns a cat. He had the gun in his bedroom somewhere like most lads do, dragged it out and used this prop, to set the theme, with the gun bag over shoulder while asking permission from the owners. Knowing the chances they say “lets see your gun” are pretty minimal, and he'd mentioned that it's only an air rifle. From that day onward, he carried his shovel in his bag. They naturally commented what most people would be thinking: “camping, huh?”. It's really just a case of agreeing with the assumptions, yeppp camping, but not right here! Indicating that we wont be camping here, as that's probably what most people are scoping out. Always be going to somewhere from somewhere. Passing through. Moving on. This is your story. Im going from A – B. I walk or run or ride A – B at least once a week, sometimes more! The truth inside the backpacks weighs 35KG – 70KG, packed full of compost and garden nutrients that would be impossible to explain away if revealed. Keep your stuff zipped and clipped shut at all times, no one will be any the wiser. Don't get caught carrying anything with compost written all over it. How will you explain your way outt of that one? Best never put yourself in that situation. Out of sight, out of mind. No one asks what's in the bag. You'll encounter many random items dropped along wild trails. Dont be a hero, you're not the pathways cleaner, we're being invisible, remember. It might be a drinks bottle, item of clothing, food, fruit, crops, straw bales, rope, string, fencing or farming equipment, anything and everything you see are all applicable under our new rule of ultra invisibility: *pick nothing up.* A handful of the enemy are well trained trackers, people like park wardens, farmers, woodland workers are our absolute nemesis. These guys have been working in these woods longer than you have, you're the new hedgemonkey on the block and they are automatically ascertaining “who is about” on their wild nature trails, and they've left their breadcrumbs, on purpose. When you pick something up, you send red flags to our enemy with information; someone was here, on this date, at this location, and they moved this item. They don't know much more, but they've tightened their scope where you're walking. 5 ropes on 5 tracks, when 1 or 2 ropes go, you've just told the enemy which way you're heading, and they have a profile of your character. You've told them your the kinda guy who might use some rope for something, and your location is here, on this path, which could be one clue too many. The general public wont pick up bit of old rope, they'd have no use for it, and it's muddy. Your enemy will note that someone picked up the water bottle, on that particular pathway, on that date. They know someone is traversing their pathway. I've seen sticks, inserted into ground along main tracks to track whether a vehicle has been through, knocking the sticks down, revealing direction of travel. It's possible this is from children playing over the weekend. Either way, move nothing, leave nothing. Our goal is to leave no trace. Don't step in places that leave prints. Tip toe like fairy. Wear whatever is best to cope with crashing through thorns and stingers, then tread lightly and carefully without damaging any foliage. Give preference to routes that wont leave footprints. Avoid carving paths that lead the enemy directly toward your garden of eden. Imagine our basket has 3 possible entrance and exit points. One way is along the main path, with a random hedge dive, into a spot where only we know the doorway to our secret portal exists. This leaves no muddy footprint culprit tracks whatsoever, and its undetectable by the passer-by and only leaves doorway wear and tear on the hedge portal. This could be the route for transporting heavy loads later, such as compost nutrients or 30 litres of water. Another entrance, maybe through long tall wild grasslands and stinging nettles. These stingers are valuable protective fences of gorilla camoflauge, and should never be trampled down. Stomping a path like Moses through the red sea will encourage other curious folks to follow. Another reason not to bring water this way. It's another new rule. Never walk the same path through deep grass, nettles or ferns repetitively, this will eventually create a channeling of attention towards where we do not want it. Our third imaginary entrance is up the river, leaving a few footprints in the river bed does not identify the entrance. Everywhere around you are unexplored highways and byways used by woodland creatures. Deer will be in and out of the hedge rows, rabbits will run tracks in the grass. Use existing tracks, be willing to walk the long way round if that's what it takes to be undetectable, blend your heavy weight hoofs in with the community traffic. If a deer goes through a hedge, there's no reasonable excuse why you cannot crawl through similar spaces. This is where we advance to the next level of reconnaissance, avec le gloves. If we're going deeper into the jungle, the first thing we'll need, is gloves. No weed warrior is without gloves. It's no fun to crawl around in spikes with our bare hands. At best, we wont get very deep into the undergrowth, and more than likely, we'll return with scratches on ankles and wrists. Amongst the mist there will be prickly spikes and thorns, and stinging nettles, and this requires more layers of protective clothing. Most winter gloves are useless against a bush of brambles, and nettles. Thick tradesman gloves will stop most thorns, with extra care protecting wrists with these shorter gloves. I have found that the very best over-glove is the army issue mitten in the photos which easily fit over another pair of gloves acting as a protective sheath that doubles up to be highly effective against all the elements, in all weathers, in all bushes. \n\n![1glove6.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVcfHrjhZBE85PVNE8GTLK8GtKnMT9jWtmnFtDSW23j3H/1glove6.png)\n\nThe ongoing decision which basket to put all of our eggs in can only be reached with enough reconnaissance to highlight 5 – 10 baskets, our goal from chapter 1. Now we will select the best baskets. Which locations had most people nearby? Cancel these locations entirely, forget them, strike them off, nice try, move to baskets further away. You should be seeing no-one nearby. Take note of when (what time of day) you do see people, and where (which junctions in which pathways) so that in future we may avoid repeat meets at these junctions in the future, clocking up less appearances. Which of your locations can you enter and exit without being seen at all? These are good ones. Shortlist these. Begin to note regular characters you encounter, it's easy to figure out if they have a routine. Do they work day shifts? This question becomes far more real in the middle of a hot summer, or when your trees need feeding up most, at prime time before their fruiting. Where's the water? Could you carry heavy loads of water in? Could you run a hosepipe down hill? It is possible to carry water in your backpack, and you will desire minimum steps between your water collection point and your garden. The ideal scenario is that you look for a garden location that runs along a stream, or beside a river. Rethink the problem and solution in reverse and we solve the problem by beginning the garden where we know the water will be available from summer until autumn. So we should have shortlisted our best baskets down to a top 3 by now. Never make this decision quickly. We do not have to decide yet, we're only rehearsing our story. There is more benefit in repeat visits and if possible create a looping route that makes invisible pitstops in baskets along the way. Keep visiting, observing, and shortlisting your final few. This is the beauty of it. Many tasks in the chain must be completed in a timely manner to avoid any blunders, but the schedule is up to you. I never expected that I'd be this excited to wake up at 3am and sneak around in the woods either! It's a part-time obsession and the enthusiasm lasts. Nature moves incredibly slowly, yet makes massive progress with this technique. Remember that most joy is found in taking action, so our goal is not inactivity eventually. Procrastination breeds stagnation. There is always something to be doing as a gorilla the tasks are endless. We operate by prioritising what must be done now, asking; will this effect the harvest? This should be a question we always have in the back of our minds. Whether we're digging in winter, watering in summer or running risks that we could avoid, this question will reflect our actions back like asking; is this really worth doing? Does this have to be done now? It is not only ok to skip out on a few visits, it is expected. There are times when it will be far more dangerous to proceed and risk being seen in the area, than it is to admit than it's not the right time, and come back tomorrow. It's always worth making extra effort, to be less traceable, that is well spent energy. By now you should have a more clear self image of your character and your costume. Forget all your excuses about it's too hot or it's too cold where you live. We are preparing, planning, perusing, notice we are not purchasing anything, yet. Hold your funds for investments that will be coming up in the timeline. Find yourself some gloves, carry these with you on reconnaissance, and I will add new tools and tricks as they're required with each growing step. This incremental approach is also a safer way to set up camp. Doing nothing, guarantees your invisibility. Many times nothing will be the safest thing to do, so keep this in mind. Only take inspired action. For now we have no concern of safety, as we have no evidence; of the idea, locked away in our heads where no-one else can see.  Don't get stopped in your tracks with compost and shovels if it's not compost and shovel day for months yet. For now, all you need is gloves in your pockets, the rest is costume acting. Roll up your socks, grab your binoculars and go be a birdwatcher. Develop the wisdom to intuitively take the right actions, in the right places, at the right times, dressed the right way to suit your story.
