Don't get me wrong, I love many areas of Mexico. The art, history, food and people. But with the ongoing and seemingly escalating cartel violence it seems that you may be risking your personal safety more than ever. I do realize that every time you travel into another country you are taking a certain level of risk. But this looks different. It would appear as though the cartels have infiltrated the large resorts that were before a pretty safe bet, now it looks like they are making targeted hits on tourists. Drugging, kidnapping, shake downs, robberies and rape seem to be modus operendi in the Mexican resort areas. Shakedowns at the hospitals, being held until you're forced to fork over thousands of dollars, the list never ends. The stories are not isolated to just a few resorts or areas. Take a look for yourself, go down the rabbit hole before you book your Mexico vacation. I know I have.",
