I think this is a good thing because the ability to anchor hope on a belief is a good thing. *I have a covenant with my chi that I will not die before 120 years. Look at me, I am 62. Still strong. Remaining 58 years. I don’t need to take drugs or change my diet because of age. I eat everything*, he says.\n\nHe is 62. Strong. Young. Dark skin not rumpled with age. But I am wary of his faith. This faith that blinds. This faith that makes him cherry pick on life, making outrageous philosophies to quell truths. For instance, he says sicknesses are a product of the mind. If you allow a sickness linger in your mind, it will stay in your body. So I ask him about children, newborns that come down with diseases. *They do not have a strong-enough mind to expel the illnesses from their mind*, he answers. I laugh.\n\nI wish he knew that illnesses happen not because we will them to, but because at some point, time degenerates the body. And using fallacies as an excuse not to take care of one’s health is a bad thing, even suicidal. I remember a woman who had walked into our medical outreach one Saturday, looking robust and healthy. One could easily dismiss the dullness in her eyes as tiredness. Not until her blood pressure was measured and she had to be treated as emergency. Looks can be, indeed, deceiving. So I look at this man and feel sorry for him. Perhaps, he is sitting on an enlarged prostate or a high blood pressure, but how can he know this since he *chi* forbids it, and he has also drunken from the river at Shangri-la.\n\nHe is Igbo, and he has a *chi.* A personal guardian spirit sent to him by Chukwu, the almighty God. As the man prides in his unfailing health, I wonder if his chi has failed to remind him the words of God: ***render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s***. Maybe his *chi* has played his part, but the man keeps forgetting…or chooses not to remember. Whatever it maybe, his body will be left to bear the brunt.",

One which we've failed before. It tosses this disease to us —what I'll call a *tabula lassa*— to see what we will make of it this time, to see if we will rewrite history. \n___________\n\nOne evening last week, Mom returned home, sunk her fatigued self on the sofa, and told me two doctors had died in the teaching hospital in Abakaliki. \"Lassa fever,\" she said. The words possessed a strangeness as they filtered into my ears. I thought that they have been written and wrapped in history. But when my friend called me an hour later, telling me how he’d had indirect contact with a doctor somewhere in Anambra, I knew history had escaped the prison of the past. Days later, schools were closed in Abakaliki, a house officer was dead in Kogi, 5 people dead in Ondo. \n\nOnce again, in Nigeria, we see the government treat us to a cup of negligence and tired, overused political statements like “…we are also intensifying effort to create awareness to sensitize the public to how to live a hygienic life.” It always boils down to the public fending and protecting themselves. So we have resorted to anger and sighs and hashtags. And I hope these actions of ours spur the government. If not, we may see ourselves get weakened by fear, and commit our lives to the hands of God. Because if these —as Obasanjo puts it— “lice of general and specific poor performance…” continues by this government, “…our fingers will not be dry of ‘blood’”.\n____________\n\n*Staying woke* is a clause that comes to my mind as I write this. A clause that has become popular, too popular. It means a state of awareness especially one gotten through reading. And at this time, Nigerians should learn to *stay woke*. You are your responsibility. \n\nUse your hand sanitizers. Get rid of rats, those little terrorists that have made the virus find home in their bodies. Report any high-grade fever quickly. All fevers are not caused malaria and typhoid. Same with general body weakness and pain. \n\nStay safe. If the government fails you, don't fail yourself.",

When you took the yellow and green capsule, you no longer felt the usual lightness of your body that came with the high. Blood flowed through your veins, the pill no longer made it flutter; no longer made you burst into R. Kelly's \"I believe I can fly\"; no longer made your mind a sea hugged with inspiration. You thought you made \"better\" music with the pill in your system, and that happiness tugged at your belly. This birthed your defiance. Made you break the countless promises to yourself and your mother and your doctor to stop taking the pill because you knew the dangers of taking it continually. You tried to keep your promise, but you never knew how to say goodbye without memories becoming vultures hovering in your head. \n\n\n*See Finish* was when your body got used to the pill that gave you the high. And with this feeling of nothingness came an incompleteness, insatiety. You wondered how you had learnt to bond with a little pill, how it had become a part of you morning and night, how it had woven magic and visions into your dreams. Not wanting to let go, you stepped up. Two pills brought back the high, the happiness, the music to your mind's ears. Heat would course through your body, your hands would tremble, nausea would rage your throat. Warning signs but you didn't care. \"Pleasures should never come easy,\" you'd said. Simply put, it is the flow of goods or services from the producer down to the final point of consumption. \n\n\nIn this market, you are a seller (supplier) and buyer (customer) at the same time, and unlike what we have in other industries or companies where the customer is king, here, you are not king (as a customer). The market does not care about your feelings. It is a game of survival. You strive to win because your trading mistake would be another's gain. \n\n\nFor instance, have you ever wondered who bought the coin you sold for say 50% profit? Obviously that coin was at the top already at that price, yet someone bought it. Probably a novice who would hinge on hope for the coin to pump more in order to make profit. It's a cycle — a coin you bought at a dip is probably someone's profit. So being smart is important. \n\n\nNow, how do you win in this space? Strategy. You've got to have strategies. How you will trade Gifto will not be exactly the same way you will trade Cannabis because these are individual supply chains.
