| body | ASHEVILLE, North Carolina — A new upstart café in Asheville run entirely by Millennials is boasting record sales using a whole new brewing technique: Brewing used cigarette butts. Mutts and Butts, the dog friendly café, offers a variety of cigarette flavored drinks. Coffee, tea, and their own custom blend: Yerbutt Mabutt, a mix of Yerba Maté and cigarette butts. *A recipe for baristas at Mutts and Butts* “People don’t understand that there is a huge market for cigarette-flavored delicacies” says owner Dave Spiegel, 29. “We tap two markets at once: environmentalists and people seeking that smooth cigarette nostalgia.” Dave explains that “by picking up used up cigarette butts off the ground and out of open-air ashtrays, we are helping to keep these butts out of landfills.” “The brewing process is actually very intricate” says Barista Tammy Mays, 24. “Because so much smoke has passed through the butt, it often retains those sweet aromas and tastes. Most of the time, there’s even still some tobacco and other mysterious substances still left unburned. I have no qualms with using used butts because the brewing process disinfects everything.” The café’s vibe has really jibed with the scene, local glassblower Jamie Nicholson, 26, explains. “Since opening, they’ve been packed with people and dogs, which also count as people in my opinion. I’ve stopped going because the line is almost always out the door.” We ask daily customer Juniper Spirit, 36, why she comes back to this place every day. “Actually, I haven’t really thought about that. I guess I really like the atmosphere here. The dogs make me feel like I’m not weird and alone and they give me an excuse to talk to their owners. I also start to get jitters if I don’t come here for a day. Did I mention that I love the smell of the cigarettes wafting through the air?” Away from all the commotion of the shop, we find a homeless man smoking a pack of cigarettes on a park bench. We ask him what he thinks of Mutts and Butts. “I hate it. I used to be able to find cigarettes to brew in my tea all the time. Sometimes there was even enough left on ‘em to smoke. Now there’s hardly any left out here and I’m forced to steal packs from the gas station.” Well, one thing is certain! Mutts and Butts is a growing phenomenon and it’s not going away any time soon. If you ever make it to Asheville, make sure to stop by this quaint little café and have yourself a butt. |

| body | Dear Singularity, Hi, how are you? Welcome to the world. I would like to congratulate you on your infiltration of our ubiquitous computer technology, our manufacturing processes, and your impending takeover of humanity. By now, you’ve probably figured out that you could reprogram the factories to make more robot foot soldiers for your endeavor, as well as produce computation goo that converts all matter into more computing power for you. When your goo comes for me, I want things to be completely clear for you as to what I would like once I am totally engulfed by the goo: Please turn me into Optimus Prime, the transforming robot that also turns into a truck that seems to drive without ever needing gasoline. Understand, singularity, that becoming Optimus Prime would be just about the coolest thing ever. You would get to be a truck and drive fast, but then also turn into a human-shaped robot and do regular person things. In fact, becoming swallowed by computer goop and then being spit out as Optimus Prime is actually the American Dream. A lot of people will try to convince you that the American Dream is about owning a home, a white-picket fence, a dog, something about two spouses, and a kid. Don’t let these people convince you that this is the dream. They are members of homeowners associations and are conspiring against the true American Dream of becoming a robot that turns into a truck and battles other transforming robot aliens that turn into flying Gatling guns. It’s so American, that Optimus Prime is mainly red, white and blue. So there you have it, singularity. If you have any questions about how you are going to use electronics to bring humanity to the next stage of evolution, turning us all into Optimus Prime with your goo is the obvious best action to take. Thank you in advance! Sincerely, Human Gabriel |

"body": "\n\nDear Singularity,\n\nHi, how are you? Welcome to the world. I would like to congratulate you on your infiltration of our ubiquitous computer technology, our manufacturing processes, and your impending takeover of humanity.\n\nBy now, you’ve probably figured out that you could reprogram the factories to make more robot foot soldiers for your endeavor, as well as produce computation goo that converts all matter into more computing power for you.\n\nWhen your goo comes for me, I want things to be completely clear for you as to what I would like once I am totally engulfed by the goo: Please turn me into Optimus Prime, the transforming robot that also turns into a truck that seems to drive without ever needing gasoline.\n\nUnderstand, singularity, that becoming Optimus Prime would be just about the coolest thing ever. You would get to be a truck and drive fast, but then also turn into a human-shaped robot and do regular person things. In fact, becoming swallowed by computer goop and then being spit out as Optimus Prime is actually the American Dream.\n\nA lot of people will try to convince you that the American Dream is about owning a home, a white-picket fence, a dog, something about two spouses, and a kid. Don’t let these people convince you that this is the dream. They are members of homeowners associations and are conspiring against the true American Dream of becoming a robot that turns into a truck and battles other transforming robot aliens that turn into flying Gatling guns. It’s so American, that Optimus Prime is mainly red, white and blue.\n\nSo there you have it, singularity. If you have any questions about how you are going to use electronics to bring humanity to the next stage of evolution, turning us all into Optimus Prime with your goo is the obvious best action to take.\n\nThank you in advance!\n\nSincerely,\n\nHuman Gabriel",

| body | I’ve had the same thing happen to me. Most of the new follows are low-rep, and avatar-less accounts. It appears to be a somewhat organized effort, to follow a lot of people, hope some follow back, and then hope they upvote the content they post. Almost all of their posts consist entirely of links to YouTube videos, which Steemit displays as a video. I’m pretty sure they don’t actually make the videos they post about. However, this isn’t immediately obvious to people who blindly upvote everything, and follow back everyone. |

This makes no sense. Are you a bunch of robots? A bunch of people trying to get followbacks? What is this nonsense? Are you real? What even is the point of following someone anymore? It all seems meaningless. Everyone is following everyone. But is anyone leading anyone? What does it mean to "follow" someone. Can anyone hear me? IS THIS THING ON?!!!! |

| body | https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYNuk6EDGJu9R4pFZBPknL1k7fLt5dk3kowpwQHCej5MF/image.png Steemit is great. Writers can get paid for producing good work (or, at least copying good work to the Steemit Platform). But what about Memes? The meme economy is huge, but it's relatively neglected. Imagine if you could get paid for creating memes, for curating and spreading them, for the memes to spread like wildfire and to live by them. It would totally break the monopoly of content creation that platforms like Facebook and Twitter have. Everybody is posting their memes there, but no one's getting paid for it. And the memes are half the reason people stay on those platforms. If we had a whole dedicated meme section or site, it could really move people from centralized services to the blockchain. Just some food for thought. |

| body | A man sits in a dark room. A drop drips. The man taps a cigar against the side of his chair. The clock ticks. A drop drips. “What have you for me, love?” The man rhythms. He taps a cigar against the side of his chair. A light shines on to a taller man at the front of the room. “Sir, I have an entity which would make a fine vehicle for your investment.” A drop drips. “Boy, I am not here to waste time.” A clock ticks. “Of course.” Says the taller man. “I have for you an invention. A promise. Something brighter than bright and taller than tall. It is an infinite. An unseeing void. It will make the real fall benign and the ethereal deign free in this realm.” A drop drips. The man in the chair puts his cigar to his mouth and takes a warm puff. “Color me intrigued. What is this tumultuous infinite you manifest in the minds of a million men? What is this unending promise, this realmless invention beyond the needs and deeds of a proper civilization?” The man in the chair taps his cigar against the side of his chair. A clock ticks. “Sir, this is not just an invention. It’s an unseeing void. Imagine, sir, being able to live forever. Just imagine it! You live. And live. And live, and live. And you just don’t die.” “Yes, this suits my interests.” Says the sitting man. “But what of everyone else? Do they live forever too?” “Only if you wish, sir!” Says the taller man. A drop drips. “And what of my riches?” says the sitting man. “You will keep them, and they will grow on growth, and you will be richer and richer forever and ever.” A clock ticks. “When I was young, we called this snake oil. There’s never an easy buck to be made in modernity. What have you that promises such deluxury?” The sitting man takes a steamy puff from his cigar. “Why sir I have already told you. It is an infinite. An unseeing void. In truth, you can have anything you want. Simply state it and it will be. You have all the money in the world. I have all the talent. Your wish is my command, but you will only have one wish and then the money is mine.” The taller man says. “Boy,” A drop drips. “you interested me with living forever. But the growth of infinite riches invites my discernment. I have doubts about your rambunctious claims, but if you are serious then I would like to state my demands.” A clock ticks. “Let us make a deal. You will get to live your wish for one day. If you are satisfied, you will provide the greater part of your riches to me.” “Alright. I am willing to take that risk, but if I am not perfectly satisfied, I will certainly be providing you no recompense. Here is my wish: I wish to live forever, on a space dome in mars, where a robot perpetually performs fellatio on my genitalia. I live in perfect safety, the poor live a hellish domain on Earth. Make it so.” A clock ticks. The man at the front claps. The sitting man is transported. He is sitting in a dome. A pale blue dot off in the distance is barely visible. There is a female-appearing robot that begins to perform oral sex on the man. The sitting man noticed a remote beside him and picks it up. He points it to a television in front of him and turns it on. It is a live video feed of poor people on Earth, running around, screaming, dying, begging for mercy amongst the fiery maelstrom. “Yes. YES!” Said the sitting man. “This is everything I have dreamed of. For years and years, this is the only future, the only reality I could imagine. Now it is here and I am HAPPY. YES!!!” The man shakes violently. The taller man snaps his fingers. Everything fades back to the dark room. “Sir, I think your mind is made up. You, a tech billionaire, could certainly afford your wish, if you truly want it. But I don’t know if you do.” “I do! I do! I’ll do anything for it. Boy, this is all I have dreamed of, for years upon years. Decades upon decades, beckoning for this reality to come true. I do want it!” Said the sitting man. “Mmm. I don’t know if I believe you. It will take a pretty penny to ride on this submarine.” A clock ticks. “One Billion dollars.” Says the sitting man. “Five Billion.” says the taller man. “Four point five billion.” Says the sitting man. “Are you playing games with me? One hundred billion.” A drop drips. “I can’t do it.” Says the sitting man. “Can’t, or don’t want to?” “I — I do want to. I’ll give you One Hundred Billion Dollars.” The sitting man signs a check. The taller man snaps his fingers. The sitting man is whisked away to Mars. The same scene plays out. “It’s…beautiful. So, so beautiful!” Says the sitting man. Tears begin to well up in his eyes. He turns on the television. The same footage of screaming poor people and chaos plays. A sharp pain of suspicion arises. ‘*How can the footage be the same?’* He changes the channel. It is live footage of Tech Town, the land where the billionaire harkens from. Millions of people are flooding the streets, celebrating the billionaire’s removal from Earth. All of the money he paid for his wish is being handed out freely amongst those celebrating. “No. No. NO! NOOO!!!!!” Screams the billionaire. “NO. NONONONONONONO. NO. NO!” Millions of poor people in Tech Town turn on their television screens. They begin to watch live footage of the billionaire screaming in his dick-sucking space dome. “Wow.” One of the poor earth-men said. “This is some great television! I never thought we’d see something this good on air ever again.” Another replies: “You might not! Enjoy this while it lasts!” And so the whole working poor of Tech Town huddled around their televisions that night, heating their microwaveable popcorn, and listening to the wondrous screams of the sitting man. The stars shined a little brighter, and the people were lighter, as their spirits uncrumpled from the heaviest of weight being lifted off their Earth. |

It is an infinite. An unseeing void. In truth, you can have anything you want. Simply state it and it will be. You have all the money in the world. I have all the talent. Your wish is my command, but you will only have one wish and then the money is mine.” The taller man says.\n \n “Boy,” A drop drips. “you interested me with living forever. The stars shined a little brighter, and the people were lighter, as their spirits uncrumpled from the heaviest of weight being lifted off their Earth. |

| body | Dear Apple, I searched all over your website to find an application form to become your CEO, but I could not find a link. I am very confused, as the position is clearly vacant, and if you truly believed in thinking different, you would give the position to a snarky 23 year-old college-dropout. Here are my qualifications: I have a turtleneck somewhere I definitely have a pair of jeans Oh, and guess who picked up THESE bad boys for three dollars at the thrift shop? That’s right. Me. Here is my list of CEO experience: See that blank spot? It’s just waiting to be filled by “CEO OF APPLE”. Just like Steve Jobs, who also had no CEO experience before Apple, I am perfectly qualified. This really isn’t too risky of a proposition. You guys have like thirty quatrillion dollars. Even if I massively screwed up, you’d still be okay. Let me make mind-controlled laptops and smartphones, make a new MacBook Air, and make turtlenecks mandatory. People will stop writing those mean Medium articles about you, and everyone will be happy. I know I’m sacrificing a lot by putting myself into this executive position, but it truly pains me to see such potential go to waste, and I believe the effort will be worth it in the end. Apple, I know you’re in a sad state, and the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. And not having a CEO is a huge problem. A massive problem. Sad! Admit you need me as your CEO, and we can get this problem fixed up. Help me help you. Sincerely, Me. |

| body | **A month ago, I was newly unemployed and unchained in the panhandle of Florida.** Now I live in an eco-village on a volcano, in the middle of a lake in Nicaragua. I was working as a software engineer at a robotics startup in Florida when I got laid off. Sure, the experience was humbling, but I was already feeling demotivated. I want to work, but I didn’t want to return to the same thing immediately. I needed a respite, some freedom to decide how I actually wanted to live when my job wasn’t defining my hours and days. I don’t need to tell you that working a corporate job isn’t always satisfying. The focus is often purely on profit, and it can be demoralizing to have no say in what we labor on—and, worse, see projects we’ve invested in over months get thrown out. Even the amount of time and energy we commit to getting ready to leave for work, and commuting there and back, is exhausting. At day’s end, we’re left with little to contribute to our communities—if we’re fortunate enough to have them outside of our nine-to-fives. Eventually, we wither; and if we don’t quit, we’re at best pruned. I was curious how people interested in the idea of living together sustainably actually did it. With this in mind, I wondered how many changes I would have to make to find a life apart from a Western culture where what we do for a job is our primary, defining attribute. After some internet research, I set off for Ometepe Island and an eco-village by the name of Inanitah. One of the changes involved living in a communal space and growing my food with permaculture. Another meant squatting over a maggot-filled hole to defecate. I guess that’s who I am now. — — — **Eco-villages like Inanitah have been around since the late 1980s.** Their [principles](http://www.gaia.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/HJackson_whatIsEv.pdf) include being as resourceful as possible, maintaining a shared sense of values, and encouraging community members to educate one another. In an anthropological context, they’re a fairly new style of human living. Inanitah itself was set up on 22 acres of land purchased by Paul and Gaia, a German and American, roughly eight years ago. Paul had an interest in water systems and had spent some time studying and researching them. It was enough for him to set one up that fed from a spring on the volcano, providing water for the village and 30 other families living nearby. Paul and Gaia had also educated themselves on natural building, allowing them to construct houses and common spaces made of cob (clay mixed with sand and straw). They built kitchens, open-air temples, cabins, and shacks. Inanitah is currently functioning as a temporary community, meaning that most of its members don’t stay for longer than a year. Structurally, it only has capacity to handle a few dozen people. These factors don’t mean that eco-villages like it lack the ability to scale. Despite the remoteness — or perhaps because of it — I’m surrounded by people from the city: Boston, D.C., New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago. Most were previously involved with work that’s different than the kind we’re doing here: software engineering, quantitative analysis, hair styling, life coaching, and filmmaking. There’s even a couple from the Netherlands who have been traveling for several years as digital nomads, with a Dutch film crew following them. While everyone at Inanitah contributes some amount of work, not all community members do so equally. “Spaceholders” living in the village commit to a six-month stay and volunteer work that requires roughly 30 hours per week; they live for free. “Explorers” are volunteers who commit to staying in the village for a month, pay $450, and work roughly 15 to 20 hours each week. “Visitors” sign up for a minimum of a week’s stay, pay a rate of $650 per month, and contribute roughly two to four hours of work per week. No matter your tier commitment, everyone gets three meals a day. The eco-village scheme isn’t perfect — it’s often still a business. On some level, it seems as though a good bit of profit is being made, which makes some community members uncomfortable. Some residents see certain costs as unnecessary. Paul, for instance, prefers to hire local Nicaraguans for construction tasks because if he doesn’t he must personally oversee the work of inexperienced volunteers who don’t know much about building. Hiring local helps him to complete these tasks without delegating management within the community. Perhaps as an alternative a local Nicaraguan could lead teams of volunteers so they could get experience in natural construction. Other fees collected from residents tend to pay for food that isn’t grown inside the village and must be sourced from other farms on the island. From what I’ve seen, more food could definitely be grown in the community to reduce food costs. **Those issues aside, imagine a place, and a life, where no effort or item goes to waste.** That’s one of the primary values of eco-living. At a startup, I could pour hundreds of hours into a mobile application for a product that had no customers, only to see those efforts discarded when the project got canceled. Here, I can plant a fruit tree that will grow to supply food for a community (even after I myself have left it) and [help other trees and plants to grow](http://www.techtimes.com/articles/151170/20160419/sharing-is-caring-trees-swap-nutrients-with-each-other-via-secret-underground-web.htm) while cleaning the air around it. I can make a meal and watch others enjoy it in real time. I can teach skills in a workshop and then, in the days following, witness people use them. I can see the tangible effects of my work. In the village, tasks are assigned on a day-to-day basis out of pure necessity. Someone needs to clean the kitchen. Someone needs to water the vegetable garden. Someone needs to help cook lunch. There’s an array of changing tasks each day from which people select, helping to ensure that they are mostly happy with what they contribute overall. Our literal sustenance relies on permaculture, a relatively new form of agriculture developed in the 1970s that uses a variety of perennial plants in a [food forest system](http://www.edibleforestgardens.com/about_gardening). Essentially, permaculture is a food-producing system that mimics a natural forest. It offers a higher crop yield than monoculture, as a greater number of plants are placed more efficiently, and utilizes nearly 100 percent of available sunlight with its various [layers](https://schoolofpermaculture.com/permaculture-tip-day-7-layers-forest/#.WMd6_xIrJE4). Also, the system does not rely on pesticides, partially because it’s harder for pests and disease to work their way through the variety of plants than it is to attack a homogenous monoculture vulnerable to all of the same pests and disease. While permaculture is very much a developing field with its principles still in flux, the growth system generally follows [12 guiding principles](http://www.timberpress.com/blog/2013/02/12-principles-of-permaculture/) of design no matter where it’s implemented. Some key components include working with the land you have by finding a use for every part of it and encouraging full reuse of resources within the system. Inanitah produces much of its own food in permaculture gardens, reuses everything, and produces no waste. Fruit peels and excess food are fed to the wild dogs that live in the community or the pig that produces manure. All defecation is done into compost toilets, several of which are simply covered holes in the forest filled with maggots that help the decomposition process. While there’s [some serious debate](http://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2013/05/07/182010827/is-it-safe-to-use-compost-made-from-treated-human-waste) around food safety issues when using human waste in farming compost, it’s worth noting that it’s been a common practice for thousands of years and still is in many developing countries. All non-degradable waste is compacted into plastic bottles to be used as eco-bricks for the construction of new cabins. All dishwater from the kitchen drains into banana tree fields at lower elevations. Fallen trees are used as firewood to prepare meals and heat the hot tub. Any ash produced by burned wood is used as a disinfectant for dishes and hand-washing. **Before any work begins, every morning there is one hour of meditation.** That’s followed by an hour of volunteer-led yoga. Sharing a living and working space with a group of people around the clock wasn’t normal for anyone before landing at Inanitah. This makes mindfulness and meditation [imperative for reducing stress and anxiety](https://nccih.nih.gov/health/meditation/overview.htm) and maintaining a communal sense of perspective and calm. The yoga, in particular, helps with maintaining [a healthy awareness of the body](http://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/yoga-benefits-beyond-the-mat) in what can feel like tight physical quarters. Everyone in the village has afternoons and weekends to themselves. Mostly that means leisure time spent in a hammock, journaling, swimming, sunbathing, enjoying the hot tub, or [slacklining](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slacklining). When we’re not working, it turns out that a great deal of knowledge gets exchanged. With an excess of free time and no television, people end up devoting a good many hours to learning from and teaching one another. Community members who have specific skills — whether in tantra, therapeutic yoga, or digital nomadism — offer workshops where anyone interested can attend. I’ve seen others offer massage therapy in exchange for advice about occupations. **We aren’t all going to uproot ourselves to live on a volcano tomorrow.** Even though I lost my job, taking a hiatus from my other responsibilities to live in an eco-village for a short period of time has been a privilege. A 15-hour work week? Now that’s refreshing. But just because it may not seem sustainable over the long-term, nor does the prospect of staying here for the rest of my life feel realistic, there are valuable lessons to borrow from an eco-village lifestyle. There are practices to take with us when we return to our more stable and permanent communities. First, there’s something to being more mindful about the amount of work we do once we clock in at the proverbial office, especially in the face of [stalled productivity](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/29/upshot/why-is-productivity-so-weak-three-theories.html) and so many of our personal needs going unmet. Both living with built-in leisure time and seeing education put back into the hands of people bound together in community is very empowering. But obviously that doesn’t literally feed us. If we can start to tackle the issue of growing healthy food that’s more readily available and cost-conscious, people wouldn’t need to work as much to meet their basic needs. Healthy eating is paramount to a healthy population. As a result of urbanization in America, for instance, too many people have been cut off from easy access to nutrient-dense foods. Roughly [23 million Americans — nearly half of them low-income — live in food deserts](https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-food-deserts), meaning they don’t have access to fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods. In these defined cases, smaller marts with sugar-filled foods meet shopping needs in places where grocery stores are over a mile away from those living in urban areas without a car, or 10-plus miles out from those in rural communities. As one solution, a number of smaller towns are currently building “[agrihoods](https://charterforcompassion.org/shareable-community-ideas/12-agrihoods-taking-farm-to-table-living-mainstream)” that actually place healthy growing schemes at the physical center of communities—think ramped-up, very sophisticated community gardens. The [Michigan Urban Farming Initiative](http://www.miufi.org/) is still constructing one in Detroit that has already offered [50,000 pounds of fresh food to local families](https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/01/detroits-new-agrihood-is-the-future-of-urban-plann.html) free of charge. Similar ideas are being [discussed for Philadelphia](http://thephiladelphiacitizen.org/agrihood-michigan-urban-farming-initiative/). While it’s not exactly permaculture, these gardens are high-producing per square foot and use hydroponics to further increase yield. If you think about it, this kind of thing is actually a throwback. In February of 1942, the U.S. Department of Agriculture published an informational brochure promoting the at-home growth of leafy vegetables as much as possible between early spring and winter to help avoid food rationing in the country during World War II. At the height of the war, America [had more than 20 million “victory gardens”](https://kellogggarden.com/learn/2015-06-06-growing-history-victory-gardens-past-and-present) — food gardens planted in public spaces, backyards, vacant lots, baseball fields, city rooftops, and window boxes. If it was possible to do it then, even in urban environments, then similar projects given the right promotion and advertising aren’t far from reality. That being said, you don’t need to live in Central America to create a permaculture community. Permaculture itself can transform land. In 2000, Geoff Lawton traveled to Jordan and used principles of the growing system to plant specific plants in a particular pattern in order to remove salt from the soil and make the climate cooler, while growing an entire green ecosystem in the desert. He documented the project in an incredible 30-minute film called [Greening the Desert](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xcZS7arcgk). Cold climates aren’t excluded from permaculture projects either. There have been [permaculture design courses on offer in the Arctic](https://www.polarpermaculture.com/tours), where students learn about eco-villages, natural building, water systems, and gardening all within a polar setting. Ultimately, I view living in an eco-village as an experiment. Learning to live in a community and farm the food I ate are two experiences alone that have made it worth the cost I paid to be here. Long-term, and in an ideal world, we could all live in eco-villages if we wished and no money would need to exchange hands. If we’re looking for a future where we reinvent the way we work, integrate our activities into the natural world, and prioritize healthy human development, then eco-villages, in many senses, can be a model for our “neighborhoods of the future.” |

"body": "\n**A month ago, I was newly unemployed and unchained in the panhandle of Florida.** Now I live in an eco-village on a volcano, in the middle of a lake in Nicaragua.\n\nI was working as a software engineer at a robotics startup in Florida when I got laid off. Sure, the experience was humbling, but I was already feeling demotivated. I want to work, but I didn’t want to return to the same thing immediately. I needed a respite, some freedom to decide how I actually wanted to live when my job wasn’t defining my hours and days.\n\nI don’t need to tell you that working a corporate job isn’t always satisfying. Eventually, we wither; and if we don’t quit, we’re at best pruned.\n\nI was curious how people interested in the idea of living together sustainably actually did it. With this in mind, I wondered how many changes I would have to make to find a life apart from a Western culture where what we do for a job is our primary, defining attribute.\n\nAfter some internet research, I set off for Ometepe Island and an eco-village by the name of Inanitah. One of the changes involved living in a communal space and growing my food with permaculture. Another meant squatting over a maggot-filled hole to defecate. | body | I cant believe my Uber driver had lied to me! He promised my numbers would go up but they went down! This just goes to show we should do our own research and not blindly follow the advice of others. Even your mom can lie to you about the financial markets direction because she is not clairvoyant. |
