He decided to do business in a way that existed nowhere else. His system of interchangeable parts radically altered manufacturing, allowing it scale in a way no one had ever imagined.\n\nToday’s managers often get caught up in incremental change. What we learn from Whitney is that when a business is at a crossroads, its leaders sometimes need to risk everything, even before the solution or outcome is fully understood. In management parlance, Whitney “pivoted” from making cotton gins to mass-producing guns. More recent business history holds examples of similar dramatic pivots: \n\nPolaroid founder Edwin Land abandoned his plan for creating polarized (thus the name) windshields and headlights to produce the first instant camera—to keep his investors from losing their money.\n\n And in the 1980s, when Intel was getting crushed in memory chips, Andy Grove “pivoted” out of his company’s main business and switched to microprocessors. I cried most of the year &nbsp;but it also taught me to be stronger and it moulded me to be a firm and &nbsp;bold person.<br>\n&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Looking back, I realized how much I wasted my year dealing with toxic &nbsp;people and staying in very bad situations but, I am still happy that I &nbsp;was able to lessen bad people in my life and finally put myself first &nbsp;before everything.<br>\n&nbsp;</p>\n<p>So for this year, I didn't start with a New Year's Resolution because I &nbsp;know that it'll eventually fluctuate, your good vibes will suddenly &nbsp;change into something bad or worse, demonic when sometimes moments would &nbsp;trigger you. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative. <br>\n<br>\n An<strong> investor</strong> is someone who carefully analyzes a company, decides &nbsp;exactly what it is worth, and will not buy the stock unless it is &nbsp;trading at a substantial discount to its intrinsic value.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>They are able to say, for &nbsp;example, that \"Company 'X' is trading for $48 per share, but it is worth &nbsp;$62 per share.\" They make their investment decisions based on factual &nbsp;data and do not allow their emotions to get involved. A <strong>speculator</strong> is a &nbsp;person who buys a stock for any other reason.Often, they will buy &nbsp;shares in a company because they are \"in play\" (which is another way of &nbsp;saying a stock is experiencing higher than normal volume and its shares &nbsp;may be being accumulated or sold by institutions). They buy stock not &nbsp;on the basis of a&nbsp;careful analysis, but on the chance, it will rise from &nbsp;any cause other than a recognition of its underlying fundamentals.Speculation &nbsp;itself is not necessarily a vice, but its participants must be &nbsp;absolutely willing to accept the fact that they are risking their &nbsp;principal.       "body": "Lets offer an example. We have 2 ten year olds with $100.  \n\nAmy uses the $100 to buy lemons, sugar, an old table, and some poster board and sets up a lemonade stand on a busy road. Business is brisk, and she reinvests her profits by buying more supplies. By the end of the summer she has turned $100 into $500. Some days (rainy, cool days) business was slow, some days (the hot sunny ones) it was brisk. She was never discouraged. She did not throw up her hands on the first rainy day and say \"no one is ever going to buy lemonade again - I'm going to sell my stand\".  She is an investor. \n\nJohnny on the other hand goes and spends his entire $100 buying lemons, which he hopes to sell to Amy next week at a higher price. He heard the price of lemons will go up because the forecast is calling for record heat and lemonade is popular in the hot weather. Lo and behold, the forecast is wrong, the price of lemons drops, and Johnny is wiped out. Johnny is a speculator.  \n\nSpeculators are forever trying to be smarter than the market.
