| title | You Don’t Need A Hong Kong Company |
| body | When I first started looking to set up a company to hold my consulting and freelance business, many pundits and advice articles recommended the jurisdiction of Hong Kong. It was touted as a great spot for digital nomads and location independent entrepreneurs. It was fast and easy to setup online. What was not to love? My experience however has not lived up to their claims. # It’s cheap and easy to set up, but NOT cheap to run a Hong Kong company. I know I was distracted by the startup cost for a Hong Kong company, to my detriment. Between secretary fees for regulatory things here and there, auditor fees, and accounting fees it feels like death by a thousand paper-cuts. Contrast that with my experiences running a US LLC which, while not perfect, has been far cheaper and more hassle-free. # Hong Kong has a lot of inefficiencies that are not location independent conductive. Hong Kong is an amazing, vibrant city, with many technological advances. However, some processes in the business world have not caught up with the times, things such as: - Needing to show up in person to open bank accounts - To chop seal documents (NB: signatures are allowed in some cases) - To submit a cross signed, physical check for payment of taxes These are the types of issues that can cause headaches for the digital nomad, especially one who might not be based in Asia or can get to Hong Kong to take care of things. # Banking in Hong Kong is HARD to get into. If you’re like many digital nomads, you are probably not running a giant company with a million dollar turnover. Hong Kong banks don’t want to deal with small business. Can you blame them? With all the money and wealth from China next door why bother with a smaller, foreign company that will just mean more paperwork for them? If you’re an American, that’s yet another strike against you (thanks to FACTA regulations). So…without a Hong Kong bank account what can you do? You are now in the not so enviable position of needing to open a bank account as a foreign entity somewhere offshore. It can be a real mess to sort out. We got our issues sorted out only after dishing out some money to consultants for advice and more advanced planning. Hong Kong requires annual audits by a CPA accountant. Now, this point is not a bad thing. If you’re running a business, you **should** keep a set of books and getting them audited is a good way to stay “legit”. My qualm lies in dealing with the auditing process itself, particular to Hong Kong. Hong Kong auditors, LOVE paper and receipts. They love them so much they expect one for EVERY transaction. Granted I had most of ours in electronic form, so sending them over wasn’t too much hassle. The rude awakening came a day later when I learned the auditor wanted something for documentation for ALL the transactions. It forced me to email several contractors, suppliers and vendors to request they supply us with an invoice. Difficulty in availing the often touted 0% tax for Offshore Hong Kong companies. A major motivating factor in my decision to setup the company in Hong Kong was due to the territoriality nature of its business tax system. This, in theory, would allow our business to claim a 0% rate on the income tax, so long as every took place entirely outside of Hong Kong like: - Not physically operating in Hong Kong (offices, warehouses, etc). - Have business dealings with clients/customers in Hong Kong. - Company products do not enter Hong Kong. - Company provides no services in Hong Kong. **This seemed like a great opportunity for a digital nomad, running a location independent business with no real ties to Hong Kong, other than being registered there!** What I found out was that qualifying for the rate was a long and drawn out process. It was also expensive, as you needed to have someone to be your contact with the IRD (remember that item about things being old-school in a lot of ways?). Records must be kept that prove and demonstrate how and where our company operated. Getting the said special rate was not guaranteed after all the work and expenses. The final nail in the coffin for me was that the status was only temporary and had to be renewed. For a small business like mine, it was easier to just pay the income tax at the standard rate of 16.5% (which is pretty reasonable as far as business tax rates go) than to deal with the additional headache. I know many other Hong Kong small business owners that have opted for the same, either on their own conclusions or from the advice of their secretary firms. # There’s a bright side… Often, we learn the most from our failures and hardships than from our successes. Working through these issues has taught me a lot as an entrepreneur and international citizen of the world. Running a business from Hong Kong has taught me a lot about setting up and running a business internationally, from day 1. This is something that I that would not have learned otherwise had I opted for a less ‘exotic’ jurisdiction and stayed on-shore in the US. It taught me the value of really researching and understanding the pros and cons of different jurisdictions when it comes to businesses. It has taught me how large businesses are supposed to run, by virtue of having to comply with the same standards as one. I still feel like I’m faking it most of the time, signing “Director” after my name. Only now, I fully understand and appreciate the legal weight the title carries. Hong Kong is really not for everyone like some articles have tried to claim and certainly not a jurisdiction I would recommend for small business, digital nomads, knowing what I know now. There are far better, lesser known jurisdictions that can serve digital nomads and location independent businesses far better than Hong Kong can. I’ll be expanding on some of the places I think are better suited for a small digital nomad business in the future as I document the research and progress made with setting up another business. --------- If you liked this post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). We got our issues sorted out only after dishing out some money to consultants for advice and more advanced planning.\nHong Kong requires annual audits by a CPA accountant.\n\nNow, this point is not a bad thing. If you’re running a business, you **should** keep a set of books and getting them audited is a good way to stay “legit”.\n\nMy qualm lies in dealing with the auditing process itself, particular to Hong Kong. Hong Kong auditors, LOVE paper and receipts. They love them so much they expect one for EVERY transaction.\n\nGranted I had most of ours in electronic form, so sending them over wasn’t too much hassle. The rude awakening came a day later when I learned the auditor wanted something for documentation for ALL the transactions. It forced me to email several contractors, suppliers and vendors to request they supply us with an invoice.\nDifficulty in availing the often touted 0% tax for Offshore Hong Kong companies.\n\nA major motivating factor in my decision to setup the company in Hong Kong was due to the territoriality nature of its business tax system. This, in theory, would allow our business to claim a 0% rate on the income tax, so long as every took place entirely outside of Hong Kong like:\n\n- Not physically operating in Hong Kong (offices, warehouses, etc).\n- Have business dealings with clients/customers in Hong Kong.\n- Company products do not enter Hong Kong.\n- Company provides no services in Hong Kong.\n\n**This seemed like a great opportunity for a digital nomad, running a location independent business with no real ties to Hong Kong, other than being registered there!** \n\nWhat I found out was that qualifying for the rate was a long and drawn out process. It was also expensive, as you needed to have someone to be your contact with the IRD (remember that item about things being old-school in a lot of ways?). Records must be kept that prove and demonstrate how and where our company operated. Getting the said special rate was not guaranteed after all the work and expenses.\n\nThe final nail in the coffin for me was that the status was only temporary and had to be renewed. For a small business like mine, it was easier to just pay the income tax at the standard rate of 16.5% (which is pretty reasonable as far as business tax rates go) than to deal with the additional headache. I know many other Hong Kong small business owners that have opted for the same, either on their own conclusions or from the advice of their secretary firms.\n\n# There’s a bright side…\nOften, we learn the most from our failures and hardships than from our successes. Working through these issues has taught me a lot as an entrepreneur and international citizen of the world.\n\nRunning a business from Hong Kong has taught me a lot about setting up and running a business internationally, from day 1. This is something that I that would not have learned otherwise had I opted for a less ‘exotic’ jurisdiction and stayed on-shore in the US. It taught me the value of really researching and understanding the pros and cons of different jurisdictions when it comes to businesses.\n\nIt has taught me how large businesses are supposed to run, by virtue of having to comply with the same standards as one. I still feel like I’m faking it most of the time, signing “Director” after my name. Only now, I fully understand and appreciate the legal weight the title carries. \n\nHong Kong is really not for everyone like some articles have tried to claim and certainly not a jurisdiction I would recommend for small business, digital nomads, knowing what I know now.\n\nThere are far better, lesser known jurisdictions that can serve digital nomads and location independent businesses far better than Hong Kong can. I’ll be expanding on some of the places I think are better suited for a small digital nomad business in the future as I document the research and progress made with setting up another business.\n\n---------\n\nIf you liked this post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). | title | 3 Things I Wish I’d Known — Growing As A Digital Nomad |
| body | I blame my friend Wei. If she hadn’t pushed me to apply for that job in Africa, I likely would have returned from my brief stint as a remote worker while down at Hacker Paradise in Costa Rica, and gone back to the normal job. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Wei! 🙂 Over the last three years, I have worked as a freelance web developer and location independent entrepreneur. I have visited five of seven continents, eaten way too much food (I’m looking at you, Phở 🍜), walked more than I drove, and met countless amazing people who have all shaped me in different ways. Above: Tour of all things dim-sum with my AirBnB host in Hong Kong (and chicken feet 🐔 ). My life during that time has been nothing short of an amazing and humbling learning and growing experience. I’ve been places and done things that I can’t imagine the “old Kevin” having done. I am truly fortunate to be able to do what I do and hope that I can continue to see more of the amazing things this world has to offer in the coming years. # Here are three biggest things that I’ve learned whilst being a digital nomad: # Lesson 1: Making money online is easy. Making money online is hard.** Confused? Making money online is easy. The barrier to entry is low. Ridiculously low. - Got an internet connection? ✅ - Got some skill/product that people want? ✅ - Got a way to get paid? ✅ Congrats! You’re all set to start earning money online!😎💰 But… **Making money online is hard.** That same ease of entry lends itself to a more crowded marketplace. The competition is stiff for remote work, especially if you want a salary comparable to Western standards, and you will have to do a little more work upfront. That not to say that it’s impossible to make money online or that all the jobs pay terribly. Instead, just as with interviewing for a ‘real 9–5 job’, you must distinguish yourself to employers/clients and stand out above some of the noise. Show them why they should hire you! Managing business tasks, like opening a bank account or filing taxes, things that would be simple at home, can present challenges when you are location independent. These issues are becoming more manageable thanks to the growing number of digital nomads running location independent businesses to turn to for help and advice and to government initiatives like Estonia’s e-Residency program. # Lesson 2: It takes work to maintain connections “Well duh, Kevin. Of course it will take work to keep connections back at home. Tell me something I haven’t read somewhere else.” It might sound obvious to you, but until everything in your previous life and all your family is half a world away, it might not mean the same thing or truly sink in. Many people have written about the loneliness that digital nomads can succumb to while on the road. It’s easy in the beginning to get swept up in the newness of the traveling. You’re meeting new people and seeing all sorts of exotic sights. You might hardly think about home. After while, be it several months or several years, things can change. You find yourself with a sense that that life back home has been moving on without you or you might feel more and more detached from it when you return. It can be a shocking revelation to realize that you can no longer associate with home, and yet are left, in the present, with nothing that might take its place either. Above: My go-to quick lunch in Cần Thơ —Bánh bao # Lesson 3: Finding a purpose to your travels and work is a HUGE game changer. I was feeling really burned out working as a location independent entrepreneur after almost three years. There seemed to be no point to it all of working, other than to make money in order to pay the rent/bills, to eat, and to keep traveling and put off getting a ‘real job’. Business issues were hanging over me all the time from regulatory things to client work problems. Even travel had gotten old too. New places were often more about just checking off boxes. Pretty white sandy beaches started blurring together. **I was ready to throw in the towel…** The catalysis came about quite accidentally, but prompted a massive shift in mindset and began to turn things around for me completely. I had decided I wanted to start a new business, in order to diversify away from the consulting and agency work I was doing. I ended up coming up with something that was of a hybrid between a for-profit and NGO. I’m excited to be working on the logistics, setting it up, pitching investors, and then hopefully watching it grow. Having something meaningful to work towards and motivate you is rocket fuel for enacting positive change. I went from a depressed, scarcity mindset driven outlook, to actively trying to cultivate a more abundance oriented mindset. I can’t take all the credit. It was also partly due to meeting my girlfriend. We are opposites in many ways, but she helps to keep me from veering too far out into the left field. The two of us are traveling together now, keeping an eye out for new places that check off all our “boxes”. What makes a home? Do I see myself settling down in the world and where? How does home fit into the location independent individual’s life? Can we design a digital nomad life that isn’t centered around Instagram? How can location independent entrepreneurs build businesses with purpose and impact while still making a living? These are all the sort of things that I want to examine further and aim to write about in the future. Of course along way I’ll also write about things like how I travel, make money, and other topics pertinent to the location independent entrepreneur and digital nomad. --------- If you liked my post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). "body": "\n\nI blame my friend Wei. If she hadn’t pushed me to apply for that job in Africa, I likely would have returned from my brief stint as a remote worker while down at Hacker Paradise in Costa Rica, and gone back to the normal job. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Wei! 🙂\n\nOver the last three years, I have worked as a freelance web developer and location independent entrepreneur. I have visited five of seven continents, eaten way too much food (I’m looking at you, Phở 🍜), walked more than I drove, and met countless amazing people who have all shaped me in different ways.\n\n\nAbove: Tour of all things dim-sum with my AirBnB host in Hong Kong (and chicken feet 🐔 ).\n\nMy life during that time has been nothing short of an amazing and humbling learning and growing experience. I’ve been places and done things that I can’t imagine the “old Kevin” having done.\n\nI am truly fortunate to be able to do what I do and hope that I can continue to see more of the amazing things this world has to offer in the coming years.\n\n# Here are three biggest things that I’ve learned whilst being a digital nomad:\n\n# Lesson 1: Making money online is easy. Making money online is hard.**\nConfused? Making money online is easy. The barrier to entry is low. Ridiculously low.\n\n- Got an internet connection? ✅\n- Got some skill/product that people want? ✅\n- Got a way to get paid? ✅\n\nCongrats! You’re all set to start earning money online!😎💰 But…\n\n**Making money online is hard.** That same ease of entry lends itself to a more crowded marketplace. The competition is stiff for remote work, especially if you want a salary comparable to Western standards, and you will have to do a little more work upfront.\n\nThat not to say that it’s impossible to make money online or that all the jobs pay terribly. Instead, just as with interviewing for a ‘real 9–5 job’, you must distinguish yourself to employers/clients and stand out above some of the noise. Show them why they should hire you!\n\nManaging business tasks, like opening a bank account or filing taxes, things that would be simple at home, can present challenges when you are location independent. These issues are becoming more manageable thanks to the growing number of digital nomads running location independent businesses to turn to for help and advice and to government initiatives like Estonia’s e-Residency program.\n\n# Lesson 2: It takes work to maintain connections\n\n“Well duh, Kevin. | title | 4 Rules To Live By : Dealing With Visas as a Digital Nomad |
| body | > “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.” > — Jack Kerouac No matter how short your intended digital nomad trip might be, eventually, you’ll need to think about visas and how they fit into your travel plans. For digital nomads who have already been on the road a lot, we often unconsciously factor this into our plans. With my Filipina girlfriend joining me in traveling now, I’ve been forced to think about visas a lot more than before. It’s also a reminder of the privileges that nomads from a Western country enjoy with visa-free travel to more countries that from a more developing one. What things are important for a digital nomad to consider to get visas? What are good resources to use on the road? Here are the rules I live by when it comes to visas and immigration: # Rule #1. Do your research! No matter how strong your passport, you need to know the visa situation for the countries you are planning to visit. Rules and laws are constantly shifting due to politics. Don’t be the one caught unaware at the immigration checkpoint. My research flow goes like this: 1. Pick the country you want to visit. 2. Look up wikipedia article for visa free travel for the respective country (United States/Philippines). These pages comprise an easy to read map and a table with more detailed visa information (and links for each). Pages exist for many nationalities. Just google “Visa free for __________ citizens” and it should be one of the first hits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_United_States_citizens 3. If it turns out you need a visa, double-check on visahq.com. This site can give you more information about validity of stays for various visa types, costs, and processing times. # Rule #2. Book an onward ticket Many airlines are cracking down on non-resident passengers, forcing them to produce a ticket proving their onward travel. Whether you’re asked to provided one is highly dependent on several factors. These could be: the destination you’re going to, the airline you’re flying on, or even the mood of the immigration or airline agent. I’ve noticed an uptick in the number of times I’ve been asked to provided it in the last few years. So what can a nomad do if they don’t know where they’ll be after visiting a country? Several techniques are useful: - **Buy a refundable ticket ** — Much more expensive than a normal ticket, but is the best bet if you have the cash you put up for it, as far as getting questioned about it. This option is not as useful if you travel faster since the time to get your refund might not be as quick as you hope and you might end up tying up a sizable amount of capital in pending airline refunds. Those funds could be better put to use on scuba diving or lattes. - ~~**FlyOnward.com **~~ — You are renting a ticket for about US$10. FlyOnward issues you a ticket in your name that is valid for 24 hours. This makes sure that you’re “in the system” if an agent checks the ticket. This is the option that I use the most frequently now. Saves me so much stress for the small cost. **(UPDATE: This provider is out of buiness now. I am searching for a new one now and will update this when I find a reliable one. )** - **Purchase a ticket at the check-in counter** — Worst. Option. Ever. Before I found FlyOnward I was forced to do this twice by the airline, or they would not have let me on board. It results in paying far more for the flight, often making a snap decision of where and when you are going. I remember looking at my phone the following morning after a flight through Dubai and remembering that I’d booked an onward ticket at 2am after having gotten very little sleep on the flight there. Wrong dates than intended, terrible times for departure and landing, and higher costs. Lesson learned! # Rule #3. Check for additional visa fees Some countries will require fees paid on arrival for a visa. They will usually require it to be in a certain currency, not necessarily in the currency of that country either. Exact change is expected in other places too. Hand over a crisp US$100 bill for a $25 stamping fee? Ouch! You have been warned… Don’t be the gringo asking strangers if they have spare change in US$ to pay your visa stamping fee. Check ahead of time. Vietnam and Cambodia come to mind for Southeast Asia. There may or may not be ATMs available for you at the airport prior to clearing immigration (and you can not assume they will dispense the correct currencies that you need). # Rule #4. Dress well (and smile!) This advice came from my father (an avid business traveller himself) and I’ve always applied it to my travels as well. It might sounds a little odd, but I’ve found it to hold true. Looking presentable when you’re going through the process of travel can make a big difference in the reactions and service you receive. I strive to have business casual wear, at the least, for travelling through airports, immigrations, and customs. The way I like to think about it is this: **You are a guest in their country.** You should do your best in the way you present yourself and act to project respect to the said country and people. Who would you rather welcome into your home, a well dressed business person or someone who just rolled out of bed? > You are a guest in their country. You should do your best in the way you present yourself and act to project respect to the said country and people. **Don’t forget, that even though you can get a visa-on-arrival or travel visa-free, it doesn’t mean you are obliged to enter.** Allowing entry into the country is still at the discretion of the immigration agent whom you deal with at the checkpoint. Best to try and tip the odds in your favor, no? If you try to follow these tips, with a little planning and forethought, your trips should be smooth and successful. I hope this helps other digital nomads and travelers! --------- If you liked my post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). | title | Why Asia Trumps South America For New Digital Nomads |
| body | When you talk about digital nomad “hot spots” and getting started as a nomad, the conversation will almost invariably shift to locations primarily Asia. Why is that? What is it about Asia that makes it better for a digital nomad just starting out? # Costs Most digital nomads just starting out on the whole location independent experience are trying to get clients for freelance work, grow a blog, launch a startup product, etc. They are not in the steady earning phase yet, by and large. Thus, cutting costs and ‘extending the runway’ is incredibly important if they truly want to make it as a digital nomad. Once the money runs out they have to throw in the towel. Having extra cash for a few more months of hustle can make all the difference. Asia offers more locations and options for a nomad, at a lower price point than South America. While South America can be had for cheap it’s a bit more limited for choices. Flights to Asia from North America are, typically, not cheap. Flights from Europe can be had for a better deal. Flights to South America are also not cheap, though North American nomads win out over their European counterparts. It’s a tie here. # Nomad Presence While South America has a fast growing digital nomad presence in places like Medellin, Colombia it still has a ways to go before it can catch up. The existence of numerous, well established cities in Asia like Chiang Mai, Thailand, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia will continue to make Asia more attractive to digital nomads. There are up-and-coming cities too like Siem Reap, Cambodia. South America offers a lot of incentives for entrepreneurs seeking startup capital with government incubator programs like “Startup Chile” and “Startup Peru”, something that Asia doesn’t as readily offer. # Language This is where Asia falls on its face. In South America, you can get by with Spanish, save for needing Portuguese in Brazil (not that Spanish can’t get you by), across all the countries. With Asia, you’re dealing with different languages in each country and sometimes inter-country dialects that are all but separate languages as well. Couple that with the fact that each comes with a different writing system and you have a massive headache, even for the most linguistically talented. If you’re fluent or passable in Spanish, South America will be much better to you. However, if you’re not worried about learning the local languages, and content to be a little more isolated from the locals then Asia will do you fine. # Regional Travel Flights around South America are typically more expensive than those around Asia. This is due to Asia having a highly competitive environment of low-cost airlines. If you’re willing to take a bus in South America your costs can come down drastically. You lose out in terms of speed and convenience that your Asian nomad counterparts will enjoy from flying. Cheap overland travel and also be had in Asia as well. Asia, especially Southeast Asia, packs a lot more diversity and variety into a smaller area than larger South America, making it easier to change locales and experience new sights and cultures. # Internet Availability This is highly dependent on where in Asia or South America you want to go. Asia seems to have a more comprehensive, widespread internet infrastructure setup for digital nomads to take advantage of. Though less developed places like Indonesia and Philippines can be extremely spotty to nonexistent. South American internet (especially in hot-spots like Medellin, Columbia) seems to be more stable in terms of reliability and consistency with speed when it is available. It does not seem as readily available outside big cities as in Asia. # Crime and Safety Southeast Asia is more “loose” feeling than South America, where in the latter the rule of law seems to be more prevalent and enforced. In East Asia, I felt much more safe than South East Asia or South America. One thing to mention is the feeling I often got of being regarded as a walking ATM, particularly in Southeast Asia. I did not get the same feeling in South America. If this bothers you, you might try South America or Europe out instead. Both places have issues with petty crime, and I’ve not experienced any violent crime yet, so I can’t comment on that. Safety-wise they are a toss-up depending on your tolerance level and metric you’re using. I’ll would give Asia the advantage here though, as it suffers less violent crime as a whole and I generally feel safer while traveling there. # THE RESULT? Overall, Asia offers many advantages in terms of getting started as a new digital nomad. While South America has its charms and opportunities, it may be better suited for the more experienced traveler and seasoned digital nomad. --------- If you liked my post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). | title | 4 Rules To Live By : Dealing With Visas as a Digital Nomad |
| body | > “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.” > — Jack Kerouac No matter how short your intended digital nomad trip might be, eventually, you’ll need to think about visas and how they fit into your travel plans. Book an onward ticket\n\nMany airlines are cracking down on non-resident passengers, forcing them to produce a ticket proving their onward travel. Whether you’re asked to provided one is highly dependent on several factors. These could be: the destination you’re going to, the airline you’re flying on, or even the mood of the immigration or airline agent.\n\nI’ve noticed an uptick in the number of times I’ve been asked to provided it in the last few years. So what can a nomad do if they don’t know where they’ll be after visiting a country? Several techniques are useful:\n\n- **Buy a refundable ticket ** — Much more expensive than a normal ticket, but is the best bet if you have the cash you put up for it, as far as getting questioned about it. This option is not as useful if you travel faster since the time to get your refund might not be as quick as you hope and you might end up tying up a sizable amount of capital in pending airline refunds. Those funds could be better put to use on scuba diving or lattes.\n- ~~**FlyOnward.com **~~ — You are renting a ticket for about US$10. I am searching for a new one now and will update this when I find a reliable one. )**\n- **Purchase a ticket at the check-in counter** — Worst. Option. Lesson learned!\n\n# Rule #3. Check for additional visa fees\n\nSome countries will require fees paid on arrival for a visa. They will usually require it to be in a certain currency, not necessarily in the currency of that country either. Exact change is expected in other places too. Hand over a crisp US$100 bill for a $25 stamping fee? Ouch! You have been warned…\n\nDon’t be the gringo asking strangers if they have spare change in US$ to pay your visa stamping fee. Check ahead of time. Vietnam and Cambodia come to mind for Southeast Asia. There may or may not be ATMs available for you at the airport prior to clearing immigration (and you can not assume they will dispense the correct currencies that you need).\n\n# Rule #4. Dress well (and smile!)\n\n\nThis advice came from my father (an avid business traveller himself) and I’ve always applied it to my travels as well. It might sounds a little odd, but I’ve found it to hold true.\n\nLooking presentable when you’re going through the process of travel can make a big difference in the reactions and service you receive. I strive to have business casual wear, at the least, for travelling through airports, immigrations, and customs.\n\nThe way I like to think about it is this: **You are a guest in their country.** You should do your best in the way you present yourself and act to project respect to the said country and people. Who would you rather welcome into your home, a well dressed business person or someone who just rolled out of bed?\n\n> You are a guest in their country. You should do your best in the way you present yourself and act to project respect to the said country and people.\n\n**Don’t forget, that even though you can get a visa-on-arrival or travel visa-free, it doesn’t mean you are obliged to enter.** Allowing entry into the country is still at the discretion of the immigration agent whom you deal with at the checkpoint. Best to try and tip the odds in your favor, no?\n\nIf you try to follow these tips, with a little planning and forethought, your trips should be smooth and successful. I hope this helps other digital nomads and travelers!\n\n---------\n\nIf you liked my post please upvote & [follow me](https://steemit.com/@flygeneticist). | title | 4 Rules To Live By : Dealing With Visas as a Digital Nomad |
| body | > “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.” > — Jack Kerouac No matter how short your intended digital nomad trip might be, eventually, you’ll need to think about visas and how they fit into your travel plans. For digital nomads who have already been on the road a lot, we often unconsciously factor this into our plans. With my Filipina girlfriend joining me in travelling now, I’ve been forced to think about visas a lot more than before. |

I am searching for a new one now and will update this when I find a reliable one. )**\n- **Purchase a ticket at the check-in counter** — Worst. Option. I hope this helps other digital nomads and travelers!",

| title | 4 Rules To Live By : Dealing With Visas as a Digital Nomad |
| body | > “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry.” > — Jack Kerouac No matter how short your intended digital nomad trip might be, eventually, you’ll need to think about visas and how they fit into your travel plans. For digital nomads who have already been on the road a lot, we often unconsciously factor this into our plans. With my Filipina girlfriend joining me in travelling now, I’ve been forced to think about visas a lot more than before.
