| title | Best Treatment for Migraines And Headache |
| body | Headaches and migraines have an adverse impact on the lives of more than 2 billion persons who frequently suffer from these symptoms, not to mention how it has cost so many persons their jobs and the cost of medical treatment is amazing. Many of the people who suffer from migraines and headache will almost immediately take medication-drugs- to kill the pain. And if few instances, they do not always get the result they yielded for. People spend a lot of money in purchasing drugs and all that when there are few things they can easily do before reaching to the pharmacist or a doctor. Before reaching to the doctor, you can try these safety tips. It is affordable and do-able but very effective treatment. You will soon be able to get your headache and migraine symptoms under control, thus, enabling long-term management and efficiency in whatever you do. Get a massage. Massage helps in the free movement of blood in the body, thus, it relieves the pain brought upon by headaches. This can provide temporary relief but if it warrants taking painkillers, then it is certainly a good option. Try rubbing your temples or, better still, get a full-service massage on your neck, head and back. Soak in a hot tub. Soaking in a hot tub will help greatly in relieving either migraines or tension headaches. Only ten minutes of relaxing in a hot tub or spa with hot water will help stimulate the muscles, especially in the neck and back areas. Stretch your muscles. The rationale is in relaxing your tense muscles especially around the neck area, which will lessen the tension in your head. Try neck range of motion, shoulder shrugs, and neck isometrics; do these stretching exercises 2 times a day for 20 minutes each session. Engage in Yoga. Yoga combines the benefits of body posture positions, mental meditation, and breathing exercises, all of which can help in lessening your physical and mental stress. You will then be more relaxed and, hence, less prone to headaches.Engage in Aerobics. There’s no need to engage in aerobic exercises that will contribute to the throbbing in your head. Brisk walking, biking and swimming as soon as you detect the signs of a headache are recommended. Better yet, adopt these exercises as part of your physical fitness plan. Apply heat and cold. This is so safe that even pregnant women can use it. Apply a heat pack to the back of your neck to alleviate neck tightness while placing an ice pack on your temples can ease a pulsating headache. Avoid nitrates and nitrites. What you eat also affects your tendency to suffer from frequent attacks of headaches or migraines. Avoid nitrites and nitrates in processed foods, caffeine, chocolate, and alcohol especially when you have a high susceptibility to these food items. Using Natural Herbs for Headache Relief Many people are turning to alternative medicine when it comes to treating headaches. The reason for this is that headaches plague so many people and the traditional ways of treating them can be harmful if used to excess. For example, taking too many Tylenol or other pain-relieving drugs can cause a problem with your liver. For this reason, when it comes to headaches, some people are turning towards herbal remedies. One of the most popular herbal remedies when it comes to treating headaches is lavender. Lavender is used in aromatherapy and is one of the few essential oils that can be used directly on the skin. It also comes in pill form as well as in tea. This can help alleviate the pain from headaches. Another popular herbal remedy for headaches comes from the ginger root. Ginger has been used for centuries to treat nausea but can also be used in a tea to treat discomfort from headaches, especially those resulting from menstrual cramps. You can try a variety of different herbal remedies for headaches but should be sure to document each one that you try. If you see a doctor about your headaches and are taking medication, you should speak to your doctor before trying herbal remedies for headaches. While natural herbs are generally harmless, you should be sure that there will be no interaction between the herbals and the drug you are currently taking. If you suffer from migraine headaches, like millions of other people, there are natural herbal remedies to treat these headaches. Migraine headaches are one of the leading causes why people miss work in the United States and millions of people suffer from this disabling illness. What is so troubling about migraine headaches is that no one knows what causes them, although it is thought that they are hereditary. Work with different herbal remedies to treat headaches until you fall upon the one that is best for you. You can also discuss herbal remedies to treat headaches with your doctor as he or she may have more idea on how to combat the pain of troublesome headaches other than the use of medication. When your symptoms persist, you can then call a doctor. I suggest avoiding over-the-counter painkillers when possible because these can worsen your condition especially when you have underlying medical conditions. Kindly let me know your thoughts on this topic and do not forget that sharing is caring. |

| title | 12 Dangerous Bedtime Habits You Should Avoid |
| body | Sleeping well is very important. It determines your health and well being. There are, however, a lot of things that you can do wrong when getting ready to go to sleep. You should, at all cost avoid these 12 dangerous bedtime habits: 1. Don’t go to bed with cold feet Warm your feet every time before going to bed 2. | title | How To Make Mayo Chicken Salad or Roast |
| body | This recipe was made out of my love for mayonnaise, which I can eat with almost anything. I can eat mayo with potato or yam chips, in burgers, on hot dogs, with chicken, with baked potatoes or even noodles. I was eating chicken and chips with some mayo at a restaurant and the combination was so lovely it got me thinking about how it would make a good salad. However, halfway through the large bowl, I got tired. So, I popped it into the oven and then found a way to come up with this two-way recipe. It also made me understand the nursery rhyme, “Some like it hot, some like it cold.” Prep time: 30 mins Cook time: 15 mins Total cook time: 45 mins Photographed by Niyi Okeow For Chicken 1 kg chicken breast, diced into medium or large chunks 1 tsp soy sauce 1-2 seasoning cubes 1 tsp chilli pepper 1 medium white onion 2 medium green bell peppers 1 tsp minced garlic 2 tbsp unsalted butter For Salad 3-5 tbsp mayonnaise (or more depending on your taste) 1 cup lettuce, chopped 7-10 sprigs of spring onions 2 medium carrots, chopped or grated N.B: I am not big on Vegetables, so usually I skip the carrot and lettuce and load it with spring onions. However, if you love your veggies, feel free to go overboard. Photographed by Niyi Okeowo Method Add butter to a non-stick pan. Pour in the minced garlic and chopped onions. Allow to sauté for one minute, then add the diced chunks of chicken breast, soy sauce, pepper and seasoning. Stir until chicken is no longer pink and well-cooked inside. Pour in the bell peppers, toss and turn off heat. Set aside to cool. Wash and peel the potatoes. Chop each into a chunk of four to six, depending on size. Set to boil with a pinch of salt for about 15-20 minutes. When the potato is firm and cooked on the inside, drain, rinse in cold water and set aside. In a large clean bowl, pour in chicken, a little chicken stock and potatoes. Toss together, allowing the potato to soak up juice from the chicken. Stir in mayonnaise gradually till it has fully spread around chicken and potato mix. Toss in spring onions, carrots and lettuce. For a salad, cover in cling film and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes. To roast, set in a greased casserole bowl or baking dish, cover with an aluminium foil and bake in a preheated oven at 160c for 10-15 minutes. Photographed by Niyi Okeowo |

| title | Northern Nigeria’s oldest man with magic stick |
| body | Reveals power of his stick that breaks all things, kills ■ How he is able to live for 130 years Abdul Hassan, Zaria Mallam Abubakar Gwadabawa, is a great hunter from Sokoto State, but he has lived in Zaria, Kaduna State for almost 80 years. He is believed to be one of the oldest men in Nigeria at the age of 130 years. The most interesting aspect of Yusuf’s history is his bravery and the role he played during the trial of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first Sarduana of Sokoto, at the Zaria Area Court, over allegations of misappropriation of district funds by the then Sokoto Sultanate Council. In that historic event, Gwadabawa was assigned by the then Sultan of Sokoto, Sir Abubakar III, to serve as escort and guard to Ahmadu Bello, during the trial. Another spectacular thing about him is that he has a special stick that enabled him to arrest criminals. It is also capable of breaking heavy stone or iron. In this interview, Gwadabawa recalls some of the memorable moments in his life over the last 100 years. So much is being said about you in recent times. Please tell us a bit about yourself. I was born during the reign of Sultan Dan Hassan, as Sultan of Sokoto, about 130 years ago in Gwadabawa, Sokoto State. My father was a great hunter well known all over Sokoto Province. I was brought up by father in the forest as a hunter and I also became great hunter myself. In fact, I had my Quranic education from him, so I had little experience in other places apart from home. Because of my father’s bravery, the then District Head of Gwadabawa made my father one of his guards. I subsequently took over after his death but on temporary basis. When did you come to Zaria and why? I came to Zaria during the reign of Aliyu Dan Sidi as the emir of Zazzau (1904-1931). I came as a merchant. I used to come to Zaria from Sokoto to supply special groundnut and cotton to local weavers. And I became popular to the extent that once in I arrived in Zaria, everybody would know because I used to mobilise hunters around Zaria to conduct a show before going back to Sokoto. Much later I decided to stay back in Zaria. Although, you can’t walk, you are still look a lot healthier compared to other people who are younger than you. What is the secret? Honestly, the secret is God. I have been sitting here for many years but I can talk, eat and hear well with little disability. I recalled very well when I used to travel from Sokoto to Zaria on donkeys and eat rama and zogala leaves without mixtures of these chemical food items which give you nothing but diseases. These days, people don’t eat natural food. Our chickens, eggs and even the oil are made from chemical substances. Also people were living in peace in the past, but now violence and crises have put people in distress and psychological trauma. So tell me, how can you live longer under this situation? You can see here, 70 per cent of my food is from natural source and I take my herbal supplement. If you want to live longer, love, peace of mind, contentment and correct diet are necessary. It is said that you had connection with late premier of the Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto. Please what was the relationship? The connection was my appointment as his guard. The Sultanate Council in Sokoto accused Sir Ahmadu Bello of misappropriating funds, and he was charged to Sokoto Provincial Court. But the court decided to transfer the case to Zaria for convenient trial. So at that time, my District Head was a member of the Council, so he recommended me to escort the Sardauna to Zaria as a guard from the Council. That was what happened. We spent about two days on the road to Zaria. I brought him to the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Jafaru Dan Isiyaku. Sardauna was remanded in Zaria Prison for some days before he was sentenced to six months in prison. I was asked to remain in Zaria until he was discharged. So that was how I stayed in Zaria. It is really surprising that many people do not know the premier of Northern Nigeria was s once convicted and sentenced to six months jail term. Please tell us what really happened. This is a well-known story in Northern Nigeria, it is almost the same story with Awolowo, who was also imprisoned. Although Sardauna’s case was a little different because first, the late premier was a grandson of Sultan Muhammadu Bello and secondly, he was educated. Thirdly, he was the most popular among all the royal princes. At the time, some members of the royal family were looking for an opportunity to indict him, so they decided to put this allegation on him while he was District Head of Raba, in Sokoto state. They connived with some members of the colonial government. The trial started in Sokoto but as I said it was transferred to Zaria for convenience. That time there was one famous Judge called Mallam Lawal Muhammad who eventually became the Wazirin Zazzau (chief counsellor to the emirate). No matter how big you were Mallam Muhammad would not hesitate to pass his judgment. Late Premier was convicted before me and he was taken to the new Zaria Prison in my presence. To be honest, late Sardauna was cheated (framed), insulted and humiliated. But later the White men took him to London and subsequently he became the premier, which was the highest position that anybody could attain in the North. Baba, you are very old, and you have seen many generations of leaders. How can you compare those leaders in the past with the ones we have now? Honestly, I don’t even know those that are in power now, but from what I hear on radio, the leadership style is bad. The leaders in the past were so much loved by their people and they loved to meet people. But nowadays leaders only look for people when they want to use them, especially during elections. I used to hear on radio that people are looking for their representative and would say that they have absconded. In the past, if you have any problem you would rush to your emir and lodge your complaint and within a short time it would be attended to. Now the emirs are no longer useful; the politicians cheat and are deceptive. That is why you find violence everywhere today and the killing of innocent people. It is only when leaders behave the same way as the past leaders, otherwise our people would remain in this sorry situation. It is quite interesting that you turned from a hunter into a business man and a security guard. Why did you abandon hunting? No, no, my son, I did not abandon it completely. You see, hunting was not a full time profession, it was more of a culture and a traditional occupation. Even in the past most hunters were either nomads or farmers. I told you that my father was brave man, and he became close to my District Head. So also, I was opportune to be recognized in my locality. Whenever there was crisis the District Head would call me to intervene and calm the situation. So in a way I became a peacemaker despite the fact that I was not officially a royal guardsman. When I settled in Zaria, my hunting activities continued. In fact many people in the past especially in Zaria knew me as a hunter and sought for my advice on community security situation from time to time. I learnt you have special items like a big stick and sword used to arrest criminals no matter how dangerous they were. Do you still have the weapons and can you explain how they work? It is true that I have a sword and a stick I used before, but the sword is not with me at the moment. The stick is known as ‘gora’ in Hausa language. I use it to destroy any thing I want, once I hit you with it there is tendency to die. In fact even big stone, the gora can break it into pieces. I inherited it from my father and it killed many animals and wounded many criminals. I am showing it to you so that you can see for yourself. It looks ordinary but it is mystical. For the sword, it has also served many purposes almost the same like the gora. All the things I inherited are still with me. I won’t sell them and I don’t advertise myself for people to come. I don’t do that at all. But I there is need, I can assist for free. My ambition is to leave them for my children the same way I got them from my father. It looks like your family is small, is that correct? Yes, I have only two children, both are male. I could not have a child for many years, the eldest is above 60 years. I have six grandchildren. The youngest grandchild one is with me now and is more than 40 years. So I thank God for what he gave me, it is a great blessing. Given your age, popularity and wealth of experience, what is your major source of your livelihood? It is a good question. We rely on God. My grandson is running a small business, and some prominent individuals who have known me through their parents in Zaria assist me with food and money. I am not frustrated with life despite that I am caged here by age and I can’t walk to anywhere. Even recently, some good people who I gave herbal medicines sent some money to me. So I thank God. Because of my father’s bravery, the then District Head of Gwadabawa made my father one of his guards. I subsequently took over after his death but on temporary basis.\nWhen did you come to Zaria and why?\nI came to Zaria during the reign of Aliyu Dan Sidi as the emir of Zazzau (1904-1931). Much later I decided to stay back in Zaria.\nAlthough, you can’t walk, you are still look a lot healthier compared to other people who are younger than you. What is the secret?\nHonestly, the secret is God. If you want to live longer, love, peace of mind, contentment and correct diet are necessary.\nIt is said that you had connection with late premier of the Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto. Please what was the relationship?\nThe connection was my appointment as his guard. So that was how I stayed in Zaria.\nIt is really surprising that many people do not know the premier of Northern Nigeria was s once convicted and sentenced to six months jail term. Please tell us what really happened.\nThis is a well-known story in Northern Nigeria, it is almost the same story with Awolowo, who was also imprisoned. But later the White men took him to London and subsequently he became the premier, which was the highest position that anybody could attain in the North.\nBaba, you are very old, and you have seen many generations of leaders. How can you compare those leaders in the past with the ones we have now?\nHonestly, I don’t even know those that are in power now, but from what I hear on radio, the leadership style is bad. It is only when leaders behave the same way as the past leaders, otherwise our people would remain in this sorry situation.\nIt is quite interesting that you turned from a hunter into a business man and a security guard. Why did you abandon hunting?\nNo, no, my son, I did not abandon it completely. In fact many people in the past especially in Zaria knew me as a hunter and sought for my advice on community security situation from time to time.\nI learnt you have special items like a big stick and sword used to arrest criminals no matter how dangerous they were. Do you still have the weapons and can you explain how they work?\nIt is true that I have a sword and a stick I used before, but the sword is not with me at the moment. My ambition is to leave them for my children the same way I got them from my father.\nIt looks like your family is small, is that correct?\nYes, I have only two children, both are male. I could not have a child for many years, the eldest is above 60 years. I have six grandchildren. The youngest grandchild one is with me now and is more than 40 years. So I thank God for what he gave me, it is a great blessing.\nGiven your age, popularity and wealth of experience, what is your major source of your livelihood?\nIt is a good question. So I thank God.\nRapheal :\nRelated Post\nAbiola’s June 12 honour: We won’t thank Buhari –Afenifere\nRivers state: Still Nigeria’s emerging economic success story\nSatanic servant\nTop | View Non-AMP Version All Rights Reserved ...\n►",

| title | How I got my money back from my bank after falling for an online scam |
| body | Chelsea hosted Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial English Premier League soccer match last Sunday. Tottenham (nicknamed “Spurs”), hadn’t won at Chelsea’s stadium, Stamford Bridge, since 1990, but wound up winning 3-1. I support Spurs, so the result was an enjoyable one. But the joy was tempered by painful memories and it wasn’t just because it had been so long since my team had triumphed playing an away game at Chelsea. For it was in trying to purchase tickets for the equivalent match last season that I fell victim to my first — and hopefully last — online scam. Knowing I would be in London during the last week of November 2016, when Chelsea were playing Spurs, I tried to buy a pair of tickets a month in advance for the sell-out game, but it proved impossible. In desperation, I turned to popular online classified marketplace Craigslist to purchase tickets. The site was awash with third-party ticket offers to the match but one post in particular stood out. Two tickets were on sale for £180 ($250). The seller was impressively specific about where the seats were located and the view of the proceedings. The quoted price was above-the-odds, but not extortionate. And I didn’t have to supply my bank details to the seller. Instead I was asked to deposit money into his account. It didn’t strike me as a scam. But not long after putting the money into the seller’s account, I realized I had been defrauded. The seller stopped being responsive and, despite multiple requests, I received neither the tickets nor my money back. Having been advised that going through Craigslist was a waste of time, I underwent a torturous, but ultimately successful, journey to get the scammed money back. Here’s what I learned along the way. Advertisement Look twice, even if you consider yourself a savvy consumer I’ll save you time scrolling down to the comments section and weighing in on my lack of judgment by fessing up now to having been incredibly gullible with my Craigslist purchase. I pride myself on being the cautiously discerning, savvy consumer who doesn’t get taken in by online con artists. So what went wrong? The devil was in the details. The triple whammy of a very specific event description, the fact that I didn’t have to hand over my own bank account details and that the tickets were being sold for a fair, but not unrealistically low, price threw me. That this was a high-demand sporting occasion expedited my misguided haste to buy them. Yet this wouldn’t have happened if I had spent two minutes beforehand undertaking online due diligence instead of doing that just after I had made the purchase. Had I done so, I would have soon found another message on Craigslist warning me of the seller having scammed others in the past. In most cases, a brief online check will establish the veracity or otherwise of the third-party seller. But I didn’t do my homework. Advertisement 4 things rich people do with their money that you should be doing too (2:30) If you want to treat your money like high-earners do, here's why you shouldn't try to get rich quick. Anticipate apathy Once I realized I had been scammed, I swiftly contacted the customer services departments of both my multinational investment bank, which I had taken the money out of, and the account to which I had paid the money in, which turned out to be a leading U.K. digital banking services company. However, a depressing pattern emerged. My bank pledged to investigate the matter on the phone. I would then follow-up via email and not hear back from them. After asking them to reply to me on Twitter, I would receive cheerily generic responses stating they were looking into the problem but “we do have to allow the other bank the time to investigate this account fully.” While they had earlier notified me of the identity of the institution to which the money had gone and said they would seek to indemnify the transaction, I found my bank’s customer service department came up short when it came to following through and making any refund happen. The “other bank” was hardly more proactive, saying they could not discuss customer accounts with third parties over the phone and not getting back to me via email. Countless attempts to connect my bank and the digital banking services company and have them collaborate on getting the sum back to me proved fruitless too. One hurdle I had to overcome concerned the sum that had been scammed. Losing $250 gave me 250 reasons to care about the fraudulent transaction. But it soon became apparent that the fact it was a relatively minor amount of money compared to the sums involved in other financial shakedowns meant it wasn’t as much of a concern to the financial institution as it might have otherwise have been. The lowest point in resolving what seemed a relatively straightforward matter came when two months after I had bought the tickets, my bank’s fraud division told me over the phone that my case report hadn’t been updated after four weeks. It was time for a new strategy. Aim high “If you want to go far in heaven, you have to get close to God,” 19th-century novelist Balzac observed in his 1835 classic “Pere Goriot.” Had Balzac lived in the era of the online scam, he would have further appreciated the wisdom of his words. I had spent the first two months of my quest to retrieve the money outlining the issue to my bank and the digital banking services company. Yet despite my bank’s sunny customer service replies, neither institution seemed all that bothered to resolve the case. In January 2017, my patience snapped after I saw the CEO of my bank speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos. I discovered his email address by going on the website myceo.com and wrote him an emotionally-charged email outlining my unhappiness with the situation, adding “while I appreciate you are very busy, away from Davos and the C-Suite, this is the reality faced by your customers.” The email met with no response but a week later a representative from the bank called me to say the CEO had passed on my note. Immediately she arranged to refund me for the cost of the copious phone calls I had made to the bank up to this point and pledged she would get the digital banking services company to repay the funds. The representative later established that the money was no longer held in the account to which I had paid it into. But in the meantime I had also contacted the CEO of the digital banking services company. A month later I got the money back “as a goodwill gesture.” I have no doubt that I had not gone to the top, I would still be waiting for the money to be returned. Of course CEOs have more important things to do in regards to their company’s leadership and direction than overseeing financial queries from customers concerning relatively insignificant sums of money. Yet it was only their involvement that spurred both institutions into action. My dealings with the customer service and fraud departments reminded me of the old joke about being given all assistance short of actual help. Know what you’re getting into It took me four months to get the $250 back. Evenings and weekends were spent writing to my bank and the digital banking services company. I was so determined acting on a point of principle to get the money back that it never dawned on me that the amount of time I spent on retrieving it might have been more productively spent doing other things. Even though I was awarded a full refund and a rebate for my telephone conversations, the price I paid in time and effort was considerable. I shudder to think of the opportunity cost. Meantime, unlike last weekend, Chelsea won the game that I bought the fake tickets to. So had I gone to the match as I had intended, the result would have left me feeling miserable. Therefore while the scammer was out to get me financially, in other ways — however indirectly — he was looking after my best interests by ensuring I wouldn’t attend. There’s a lesson in there somewhere... |

| title | People In This City Have Been Hearing A Strange Noise For 8 Years And Nobody Knows What's Causing It |
| body | Residents of Windsor, a Canadian city near Detroit, have been complaining about a mysterious noise interfering with their daily lives for over eight years now, but despite numerous attempts to establish its origin, nobody has been able to figure out what’s causing it. Called the ‘Windsor Hum’, the mysterious noise plaguing the Canadian city of over 210,000 people reportedly varies in intensity and comes and goes at random intervals. Sometimes it can be heard for just a few hours, and other times it lingers for days, causing those who can hear it to suffer from symptoms like severe headaches, sleeplessness, irritability, depression, among others. Some residents have been so affected by the Windsor Hum that they packed up and moved far away just so they could escape it. “You know how you hear of people who have gone out to secluded places to get away from certain sounds or noises and the like? I’ve wanted to do that many times in the past year or so because it has gotten so bad,” Windsor resident Sabrina Wiese wrote on a closed Facebook group dedicated to finding the source of the hum. “Imagine having to flee all you know and love just to have a chance to hear nothing humming in your head for hours on end.” “You can’t get away from it. You go outside to work in your garden, you go outside to enjoy the sun, the noise is there,” 64-year-old Mike Provost told The Guardian, two years ago. “If you think of thunder, and you take that thunder and constantly repeat it for hours and days, weeks, that’s all it is.” Some residents describe the Windsor Hum as the sound made by a subwoofer, others as an idling diesel engine, and some even compare it to the the Star Trek Enterprise preparing to go into warp speed. The one thing that all those who can hear the Windsor Hum agree on is that it is debilitating. Because it’s so inconsistent, coming and going at various intervals, and varying in its intensity, it’s virtually impossible impossible to get used to. Animals apparently have it even worse, according to Gary Grosse, a Windsor resident who has dedicated thousands of hours to finding the source of the hum and silencing it. “Animals are being medicated for anxiety too. It sounds really freaky, but there are dogs crying all the time because animals are more susceptible. We even have some cats that won’t go outside,” Grosse said. Identifying the origin of the Windsor Hum has been compared to chasing a ghost. Mot only is it inconsistent, but it’s also not heard by everyone in the city of Windsor and its vicinity. However, its existence is hard to deny if only by the number of reports about it. Six years ago, over 22,000 people dialed in to a local teleconference to complain about the hum and the effect it could have on their health and on the foundation of their home. “It’s as if you had a fire hose moving back and forth and the people who have the water falling on them hear the noise, and if you’re outside that stream, you don’t hear the noise,” said Tim Carpenter, a retired consulting engineer who specialized in geotechnical engineering and machine vibrations. Over the years, the Windsor Hum has been associated with all kinds of crazy conspiracy theories, like secret tunneling, UFOs and covert Government operations, but while you can’t rule out any possibility at this point, many Windsor residents are convinced that it has to do with the blast furnace operations on the nearby Zug Island, owned by US Steel. “We didn’t identify the smoking gun, but there’s enough evidence there to strongly suggest that that’s the likely source,” said Colin Novak of the University of Windsor, one of the lead researchers on a 2013 Canadian government study of the hum. Over the years, activists trying to solve the mystery of the Windsor Hum have complained that US Steel has been uncooperative and secretive about its operations on Zug Island. Both the New York Times and The Guardian attempted to contact the company about this issue, but it did not respond to requests for comment. Gary Grosse and several other Windsor residents even pushed the idea that US Steel be given immunity from a lawsuit if its machinery proves to be the cause of the hum, on the condition that the company investigate the noise and take steps to mitigate it if it turns out their machines are causing it. Unfortunately, that proposition was put forward two years ago, but nothing has changed. The Windsor Hum still torments people, and there’s virtually nothing they can do but abandon their homes and move somewhere far away. *** |

| title | Wait! Don’t destroy those old credit cards yet |
| body | You know that “starter” credit card collecting dust in your wallet? The one with a high interest rate, lackluster benefits, and zero rewards? Now that you’ve upgraded to a better card, you might be tempted to close your old cards and never look back. Not so fast! Canceling your old credit cards can actually hurt your credit score. Old, unused credit cards can still build credit, but you need to keep them open. Advertisement Here’s what to do with your old credit cards. Keep them open If you keep them open, your old credit cards will positively influence two of the factors that determine your credit score: length of credit history and credit utilization rate. Length of credit history: The length of your credit history makes up about 15% of your FICO credit score. Over time, your credit cards and loans contribute to that history. The longer you’ve been managing credit, the better. If you start closing accounts, they’ll no longer build up your credit history, which is especially valuable when you’re new to credit. Credit utilization rate: Your credit utilization rate makes up roughly 30% of your FICO credit score. Simply put, it’s the amount of your available credit that is tied up in debt. For example, if you have two credit cards with a combined credit limit of $10,000, and your combined statement balance for those cards is $2,000, then your credit utilization rate is 20% (2,000/10,000 = .20). If you close an old credit card, you’re automatically lowering your credit ceiling. Any balances you carry on other cards will take up a greater percentage of your available credit and raise your credit utilization rate. A good rule of thumb is to use less than 30% of your available credit. Get rid of interest and fees Keeping old credit cards open can help you build credit, but you won’t want to pay for the privilege of doing so. First, stop making new purchases on your old card. Second, pay down the balance to $0 as quickly as possible. This way, you can avoid accruing interest on recent charges and you’ll have one less payment to keep track of. You may be tempted to close your card if there’s an annual fee. Before you do, contact your credit card provider and see if they’ll waive the fee in exchange for keeping your account open. Or, try to downgrade your card to a free option with the same credit limit. Keep them secure Once decide to stop using your card, you should keep it out of the hands of thieves. Even though federal law limits your liability for unauthorized charges to $50 (many credit card companies extend that to $0), you don’t want a thief running wild on your credit card. Keep your card in a secure place. You don’t need to carry it around in your wallet, but it should be accessible in case of emergency. Also read: 5 tricks you can use to improve your credit score You may also want to scrub your old credit card from the internet. If shopping websites or other companies have your old card number on file, consider updating your information. You can replace it with your new card number or even switch to virtual card numbers for greater security. Even after you take these precautions, your card could still be vulnerable. Read your monthly statements or periodically check your account to make sure your card hasn’t been compromised. Is there a valid reason to close your credit card? There are many valid reasons to close an old credit card, even considering the implications for your credit score. If you are having financial problems and you can’t manage your debts responsibly, you may need to take a break from credit cards altogether. If the credit card company won’t cancel your annual fee, the benefits might not be worth the expense. And if your credit is strong enough to take the hit, you may want to cancel for simplicity’s sake. Just remember to consider the effect that closing an old credit card will have on your credit. |

| title | How To Prepare Your Body For A Full Day Of Alcohol Without Passing Out |
| body | Weddings, naming ceremonies and almost all types of events are times when alcohol is plenty and they make for all-day outdoor or indoor drinking — if you can handle it. Well, you can, if you’re a pro. Pacing yourself is a nice enough idea, but we all know, a friend, who has had one too many glasses of alcohol and who has devoured lots of food is a recipe for disaster. Perhaps on the lawn or in the bushes. You however can avoid the embarrassment and still have as much fun as you want if you know what to do without passing out prematurely or getting way too tipsy for comfort. Getting ready for a long day of drinking takes some preparation. Start the day off eating some carbohydrates that will keep the alcohol from getting too quickly into your bloodstream. Alcohol is metabolized by the liver and research has shown that blood-alcohol content is influenced by environmental factors like the rate of alcohol drinking, the amount of food in the stomach, and the type of alcohol consumed. Timing Is Important First and foremost you have to pace yourself. If you have three or four cocktails before the day even really gets started, there is a high chance that you will pass out very quickly. It is important you start slow. One drink. Drink it slowly. If you start to feel buzzed, good. If you start to feel really drunk, sit down and stop drinking for a while. Slow and steady wins the race otherwise it’s a race head first to the toilet. Eat A lot There is no dieting during an all-day drinking marathon. Eating salads won’t coat your stomach or absorb any alcohol. You need solid carbohydrates. Bread, pizza, pasta. Listen, you’re the one who wanted to drink all day. If you want to feel the buzz, you have to eat the food. Stop Taking The Shots Drinking over a period of hours is easier on your body that day and the next day for the hangover, only when you’re not drinking straight liquor. Don’t accept any shots. Stop it. Have white wine, beer, or cocktails that are lighter on the alcohol. If anyone is screaming “shots shots shots!” in your group, don’t begin drinking till very late. And when you do, stick to one spirit. So if vodka is your choice, your cocktails should be screwdrivers for breakfast, Bloody Mary for brunch, Moscow Mules, for lunch and a vodka martini for dinner. Drink Water Too It is essential you hydrate. The commonly known rule is one glass of water per every alcoholic drink. Just do it. It helps keep the hangover headache away. While also spacing out your alcoholic drinks. Unless you are trying to blackout, and then by all means forget the water and everything else. Take A Nap If you’re going to consume alcohol all day, then plan on carrying on that night, it is important you take a nap. Tuck yourself in and snooze off to dreamland for a solid two hours. Hopefully, by the time you wake, it will sober you up a little so you can start drinking again. If you went down for a nap but woke up in the morning, you surely drank too much. Don’t Puke If you throw up, you did it all wrong. You shouldn’t be drinking at all, especially during the day. Get a hold of yourself. Did you do shots? We told you. No shots. |

"body": "Weddings, naming ceremonies and almost all types of events are times when alcohol is plenty and they make for all-day outdoor or indoor drinking — if you can handle it. Well, you can, if you’re a pro.\nPacing yourself is a nice enough idea, but we all know, a friend, who has had one too many glasses of alcohol and who has devoured lots of food is a recipe for disaster. Perhaps on the lawn or in the bushes.\nYou however can avoid the embarrassment and still have as much fun as you want if you know what to do without passing out prematurely or getting way too tipsy for comfort.\nGetting ready for a long day of drinking takes some preparation. Start the day off eating some carbohydrates that will keep the alcohol from getting too quickly into your bloodstream.\nAlcohol is metabolized by the liver and research has shown that blood-alcohol content is influenced by environmental factors like the rate of alcohol drinking, the amount of food in the stomach, and the type of alcohol consumed.\nTiming Is Important\nFirst and foremost you have to pace yourself. If you have three or four cocktails before the day even really gets started, there is a high chance that you will pass out very quickly.\nIt is important you start slow. One drink. Drink it slowly. If you start to feel buzzed, good. If you start to feel really drunk, sit down and stop drinking for a while. Slow and steady wins the race otherwise it’s a race head first to the toilet.\nEat A lot\nThere is no dieting during an all-day drinking marathon. Eating salads won’t coat your stomach or absorb any alcohol. You need solid carbohydrates. Bread, pizza, pasta. Listen, you’re the one who wanted to drink all day. If you want to feel the buzz, you have to eat the food.\nStop Taking The Shots\nDrinking over a period of hours is easier on your body that day and the next day for the hangover, only when you’re not drinking straight liquor. | title | NGO set to empower 30million Nigerians |
| body | Resolved to emancipate 30million Nigerians from the shackles of poverty, the Amazing Care Foundation, a Non Governmental Organisation is poised to attract foreign grant to better the lot of indigents, through Social Exchange Market funding of Model Microfinance Bank. The National Coordinator of ACF Mrs. Apollonia Eke made this disclosure, while chatting with newsmen at a training exercise organized by the NGO in Lagos for the MMFB would be directors. Mrs. Eke, while giving the expected prerequisites for access to the envisaged grant, hinted that the grant could only be accessed by a registered member of an NGO, which would be able to access the funds from affiliated MMFB. She stated further that the organization’s main focus are the women, children, youths and the general public. The ACF National Coordinator also said that the vision was basically birthed by Social Exchange Market to end or eradicate poverty and stop corruption, having successfully used China as a pilot scheme and being the brain behind her reformation. Eke noted that,”Social Exchange Market is a market where brain and project is bought, you think out a project, you present it to them, they would then buy it if convincing enough, they would now give you money to execute it. “The distinguishing features of our Model Microfinance Bank is that it deals with Grant not loan. “They came in 2015 and since they have been trying to convince Nigerians, but because of the fraudulent activities common here, many never believed. ” The initiative was the brain child of Pastor Donald Olorunkemi Kayode who was the consultant who wrote a proposal and presented to the social exchange market in United Kingdom to empower 30million Nigerians. “He choose the NGOs to get to the grassroots as there reach is wide spread beyond government’s, so they are arranged in clusters of 1000 minimum and 10,000 maximum individuals in a unit under a Model Microfinance Bank for ease of disbursement. By projection, in each of the 774 constitutionally recognized local government areas in Nigeria ACF intend establishing 13 Model Microfinance Banks to aid seamless disbursement of the fund, a total of 10billion naira in each. She added that the grant is designed to holistically deal with the root of poverty, as 5 percent of the whole amount which is the initially payable to the registered member having scaled the interview hurdle is meant for taking care of their personal effect. After which the project grant would be released,to forestall likely diversion of purpose due to lack. The Lagos State Coordinator Pastor Bilesanmi however, noted that the concept is different and genuine in that, ” you are not expected to contribute money before you can access the grant. “Only get your NGO registration form and fill, you immediately qualify for the grant, if we can do accordingly in our NGO, we can have 50 percent poverty alleviated”. He said. In her own view, the Ogun State coordinator of ACF Mrs Kemi Olayiwola noted that, “we already have 13-15 MMFB each of which would have 12-15 staff piloting the concept in Ogun in a bottom-up approach, as it is a fact that people live below a dollar per day. “Farmers, Small Medium Scale entrepreneur within the age bracket of 17-70 years old who are still confirmed vibrant would be able to access this grant stage by stage to execute maximally their projects. “It is a three years programme before the second phase comes,at the moment we have reached Ijebu -Ode, Owode-Yewa, Egbado, Obafemi Owoseni, Ijebu |

| title | Nigeria is in big problem” – UK-based Nigerian doctor warns |
| body | A UK-based Nigerian doctor, Dr Harvey Olufunmilayo, has decried the huge number of Nigerian doctors seeking greener pastures abroad. Olufunmilayo, who practises in Leeds, said about 1,000 Nigerian doctors passed the Plab1 exam in March 2018 to enable them practice in the UK. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) had in January 2018 said that there were 4,000 patients to one doctor in Nigeria, describing the trend as unacceptable. Olufunmilayo, who took to his Twitter handle, explained that four million Nigerian patients would be denied access to a doctor should the 1,000 doctors leave Nigerian shores. He said, “In March, about 1,500 doctors wrote the Plab1 exam to work in the UK and about 1,000 passed. In a country that 1 doctor cares for about 4,000 patients; losing 1,000 doctors means 4million Nigerians will find it harder to see a doctor. We are playing with fire as a nation. “Remember this analysis is based solely on the March 2018 Plab Exams alone. The same exam is written twice a year in Nigeria. And with more hardship, more doctors will be writing by November 2018. And we are yet to talk of those going to other countries like USA or Canada. “We have a big problem on our hands. There is a big fire burning and everyone is looking away thinking all is well. We largely have under-equipped hospitals with underpaid/overworked staff and overpopulated patients. Now with more health professionals’ exit, what will happen? “Have we decided that we will wait till our hospitals turn to museums with antique outdated equipments that has no professional to utilise them for sick and dying patients before we realise the grave danger associated with this continuous exit of medical workers from the country? “I was having a chat with a younger colleague friend preparing for the exam. She’s part of a WhatsApp group that is already full to the brim – with 256 doctors preparing to take the same exams to leave the country. And she said she knows at least 2 of such full groups. Oh Lord! “My people, let’s be clear – doctors are working on their exit on a daily basis. This fire we are ignoring, when it burns, and it wil, no one will be spared. Even if you are rich, even if you are powerful, someone you know will fall victim of this same health sector you are destroying. “And as I stated earlier, 1 Nigerian doctor should take care of 4000 Nigerians. Losing 1,000 doctors (based on the March 2018 Plab UK exams alone) is effectively making it extremely difficult for 4 million Nigerians to see a doctor. How are you in government and comfortable with this? “And if you are a government official and you are thinking you have the money and/or the means to always take care of yourself or your family in some overseas country if you fall sick, then let me explain to you why that reasoning is retarded and very daft. Because sadly, it really is. “There are medical calamities that befall a person and requires immediate intervention. If you have a sudden heart attack or a serious stroke or severe sepsis, such an emergency can’t wait for you to get on a private jet. You will be taken to the same hospitals that you ruined. “I don’t need to mention names but many government officials have also been rushed to the same under-equipped hospitals with underpaid unmotivated staff, and those your colleagues in government died from things that could be easily prevented IF you ever paid any attention to the health sector |

| title | How to make money on YouTube - and how much you get paid per view |
| body | With an audience in the billions YouTube could make anyone famous - and quite a few people are getting rich. But how do you make money from YouTube, what do you need to get started and how much can you be paid? BY JAMES ANDREWS 13:41, 11 JUN 2018 You'll have seen the stories of people making thousands – maybe even millions – from YouTube . Perhaps you subscribe to their channels, follow their lives or chat to them in the comments. Last year it emerged British YouTuber Daniel Middleton (DanTDM) made an astonishing £12.3million from the video sharing site – making the 26-year-old from Northamptonshire the channel's highest earner globally. Of course, Dan's got 19 million subscribers, which helps, and has been running his most-successful channel since 2012. Then there's the famous faces, like Zoella. But while they make millions, they're not the only one. A remarkable number of people are making thousands a month, while an awful lot more are making hundreds from their videos. But how hard is it to get in on the action, what do you need and how much can you expect to earn? We take a look. What you need to get started on YouTube Lights, camera, YouTube... Although you can get away with a lot less (Image: Manchester Evening News) In theory you can make it big with just a phone camera and an internet connection. One off hits like Charlie bit my finger (849 million views) and Fenton the labrador (18 million views) were filmed on phones after all. But while the potential is huge, the chances of that video of your mate walking into a door - twice – going global are incredibly small. If you're planning on making regular videos as part of a channel you'll want some decent equipment. Here are a few things to consider: Camera – something that records at 1080p HD. You might also think about how mobile this is, depending on what sort of videos you want to shoot. Microphones – cameras have these generally, but if you're recording outside, or in a noisy environment, then a decent microphone can massively improve the quality of the audio. Lighting – if you look at any TV studio the lights are massive and well directed, we're not saying you need to go that far, but take it into account when recording. Where is the light coming from, is there glare, how clear is it? Editing – it's seriously unlikely you'll be able to do it in one take, every time, so video editing software matters. There are decent free options here, but Adobe Premier is the go-to for more professional outfits. What to record Randy Santel has built a massive following filming himself taking on food challenges (Image: Liverpool Echo) This is the big question. People have made a success of everything from video game walk-throughs to beauty tutorials, cooking, unboxing toys, comedy skits, what they've bought in Primark and more. If you're good at something - be it football, Minecraft, makeup or juggling - that's a good place to start. But if you're only in it for the money, looking at products – be they toys, games, beauty, tech, clothes or something else – is a good place to start. This offers people something useful to view to find out about something they might buy as well as increasing your sponsorship opportunities and ad revenues. The important thing is to have a niche and offer value to viewers – something that will have people subscribing and coming back to view your videos. "No idea is too stupid," YouTuber Colin Furze told the Mirror back in 2015 . "If you're really into lawns or turf, make a video out of that. There's people that will watch it." |

| title | Top 10 Moneymaking Apps You Need to Download Now |
| body | Money Making Apps These moneymaking apps won't make you rich but can earn you some respectable extra pocket money with little effort. 13 min read Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own. Apps that can make you money? It sounds too good to be true, but moneymaking apps do actually exist. While these apps won’t make you rich, they can earn you some respectable pocket money or pay for your monthly mobile phone bill. From market research apps to mobile advertising apps to sharing economy apps, you can download one or many of these moneymaking apps on your smartphone for you to engage with as you commute or have some downtime. After all, every dollar counts. Something to keep in mind is that among research market moneymaking apps, be wary of potential scams that ask for a fee to register (stay away) or over-exaggerate the potential earnings. Look at the app ratings and read the user reviews. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau to see the business’s rating and any registered complaints. Here are 10 ways to make money using apps. Money App The Money App (available for iOS and Android) is a market research app that earns you rewards for completing tasks, which include offering opinions, playing games, checking store displays, mystery shopping, testing services and participating in free trials. You open an account on the Money App and start completing tasks to accumulate rewards, which you can, in turn, redeem for cash using a PayPal account. The beauty of this app is that you can get paid within two to three working days of redeeming rewards -- which is unusual in the world of market research apps that typically pay once a month or don’t offer cash rewards at all. What’s more, the app scores highly (4.8 out of 5) on both Google Play and iTunes. One reviewer wrote: “I got my first 10 dollars within 5 days. That’s pretty good for not getting up off the couch.”Couch potatoes, rejoice; you now have options. That’s pretty good for not getting up off the couch.” Couch potatoes, rejoice, you now have options. Related: 13 Easy Investing Apps and Websites for Millennials iPoll The iPoll app (available for iOS and Android) is a customized market research app that allows you to earn money through taking market surveys, writing down diaries (of dairy consumption over three days, for example) and completing missions around retail (e.g. going to the grocery store). You register and are asked some basic information, such as your preferences and consumer habits, to determine your fit for missions, and then you receive alerts when there are new missions available based on your preferences and location. The beauty of this particular market research app is that it’s customized, so you get alerts for tasks and missions that are suited to your interests and what you may actually enjoy. Users like iPoll, too: It’s rated 4 out of 5 stars on iTunes -- and less glowing 3.1 out of 5 on Google Play. One reviewer wrote, “I like that there's usually not any technical difficulties or ‘glitches’...and that the selection of topics are interesting and fun. … Most of the time, surveys [are] easy to start and complete; also they're not exceedingly long!” For each survey, mission or diary completed, you earn rewards that can be redeemed for gift cards, or you can cash out using PayPal. You need only have accrued $10 to do so. Another perk: You're automatically entered into a quarterly sweepstakes to win $10,000 in cash. Foap Foap is a moneymaking app (available for iOS and Android) that allows both professional and amateur photographers to make extra money selling photos taken on a smartphone. It’s pretty genius. Basically, it’s a crowdsourcing platform for brands and advertising and marketing agencies to find and purchase images from Foap’s registry of more than 2.5 million photographers around the world. You register an account, upload your high-quality photos with clear tags, and the photos get rated by the registered community -- the higher the rating, the higher the photo’s visibility. For each sale, you earn $5, and you can earn up to $100 per sale. There are also "missions," where brands and agencies will make specific requests for images. The app is well-rated on both iTunes (4.3 out of 5) and Google Play (3.8 out of 5). One reviewer wrote: “I love this app! It's entertaining, a new place to share my photos and I have the opportunity to earn money from them.” Fluid Market Not everyone has a vehicle, and many of us own vehicles that sit idle for the majority of days. Good news: This sharing economy app, Fluid Market (available for iOS and Android), allows you to rent out your cargo van, box truck, pickup truck, car and/or SUV by the hour, day or week. According to the company’s website, you can make up to $24,000 per year by renting your truck on Fluid. You can also rent out your tools, such as drills, saws, hedge trimmers, as well as items that fall into the “Other” category, which have included miscellaneous things, such as platform shoes, a rowboat and a tandem two-person bike. Users generally like the app. It’s rated 4.5 out of 5 on iTunes and 3.5 out of 5 on Google Play. One Fluid Market user said, “I love this app. I make money letting my neighbors use items that just sit around my house. It’s so easy and I get peace of mind with the insurance.” The vehicle rental system is set up for convenience for both parties. You, the rentee, can set up a lockbox on your vehicle so you can rent out your car and not have to be present to hand over the keys. Related: 21 Low-Cost Ways to Make Money from Home Swagbucks You make money as soon as you sign up for Swagbucks (available for iOS and Android) with a $10 sign-up bonus. The boilerplate market research app allows you to accrue points by taking surveys, shopping online or playing games, things you can do as you wait in line or have some downtime on your commute. You can also earn points watching videos. Swagbucks has been rated 4 out of 5 rating on both iTunes and Google Play. Perks for this app? Unlike other market research apps that aggregate third-party surveys, Swagbucks offers numerous opportunities for surveys, which leads to more opportunities to make cash. Do keep in mind that even though there are many opportunities for surveys, you will be disqualified from doing some of them based on your demographics. Another perk is that you can redeem your points for gifts cards or cash back from PayPal (the cashing out threshold is 2,500 Swagbucks points, worth $25). Users, for the most part, like the app. One user wrote, “Great way to earn extra cash during breaks at work or waiting for an appointment. Who doesn't have time for that? I use the points for Amazon gift cards and have cashed out several times in the last year to spoil myself.” Slidejoy Slidejoy (available for Google Play) pays users for their lock screens. Once it’s installed on your phone, you’ll start seeing various ads featuring news or advertisers on your lock screen. You can swipe left to learn more, swipe up for additional ads or swipe right for the home screen. The good news is you earn passive income regardless of whether or not you engage with the ads -- just think about how many times a day you have to unlock your phone. If you wanted to earn more, you could do other things in the app, such as surveys. You can choose to be paid via Square Cash or PayPal (select “normal” mode), or you can donate your earnings to charity. The catch is that when you first sign up, you have to wait approximately three months before you can cash out. After that, it’s a monthly cash-out payment. It’s rated a highly respectable 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google Play, and one reviewer wrote about her experience: “Who doesn't love free money?! Four Stars only because they changed the cash-out options.” One downside: Slidejoy has a rather steep 20 percent cash-out fee. Bookscouter “Great way of getting rid of books,” wrote one user of the Bookscouter app (available for iOS and Android). “I got $170 from selling four books. The highest buyer is automatically put at the top so you can get the most for your books. I will definitely use again.” The Bookscouter app allows you to earn money by selling your new and old books. Once you download the app, it’s easy to register (using your email address or through Facebook or other social networks). Then, start scanning book barcodes (using your phone’s camera) and see an aggregation of buyback prices from book-buyers, with the highest buyer at the top. Shipping is free. Reviewers have given Bookscouter their endorsements on iTunes (3.3 out of 5) and Google Play (3.9 out of 5). However, keep in mind, not all the books scanned will produce price codes and some of the offers to buy your books disappear when you follow up. However, as one reviewer said, “Getting paid even $15 for books I was going to give away seems worth it to me! Clear clutter AND get some cash.” Toluna As a market research app, Toluna (available for iOS and Android) stands out in the crowd, because users can get paid in cash using PayPal, and also the app offers rewards for more than just taking surveys -- you can also create your own surveys (e.g. based on current events, shampoo habits or opinion on latest tech gadget) that can earn you bonus points. Registration is simple, and to get a feel for how you can make the most out of Toluna, you can watch a webinar on ways you can milk the app. (Look for the next webinar in your notifications, on the upper-right-hand side of screen, which tells you about new surveys available.) The app is rated 3.8 out of 5 stars on iTunes and 3.3 out of 5 stars on Google Play. “Be patient and persevere! I've been here just a bit over a year and it's been wonderful. When you get enough points, go to the rewards center and choose what you like! If you go for cash, I like the PayPal advantage over waiting on a paper check,” wrote one user on the Toluna community blog. Related: A Step-by-Step Guide To Building Your First Mobile App Userfeel The Userfeel app (available for iOS and Android) allows you to participate in usability tests, meaning you get paid to visit and explore new websites, perform various simple tasks on the site and offer recorded feedback and critiques. (There is a helpful video on the website that provides a clear illustration of what is expected.) Each test lasts 10 to 20 minutes, and you're paid $10 a test in cash via PayPal or Payoneer. One of the standout features of this app is that you take an initial “qualifications test,” which records your voice and your screen as you walk through given tasks. This is a version of what you’ll be doing, but it’s unpaid and meant to not only test whether the app is working, but also to give you a rating by the UserFeel team. The better your rating, the more tests that will be assigned to you. The app scored 3.2 out of 5 on Google Play. One UserFeel reviewer wrote, “I had few issues uploading my video, but their support team was able to help me recover it, and I got paid for my test. Very easy way to make some extra money. I can’t wait to [do] another test.” Some of the reviews mentioned the app crashing as the user was trying to upload the test video, however the Userfeel support team was responsive in trying to resolve these issues. Related: To Avoid Distractions and Stay off Facebook, This Entrepreneur Uses a Special App That Limits His Internet Use Musely Musely (available for iOS and Android) is an online community and marketplace app for eco-friendly beauty and home products, as well as a social platform for women to share and receive healthy lifestyle advice and tips ranging from parenting to skincare to fitness. On Musely, you can shop for organic, up-and-coming brands and eco-friendly products, such as toxin-free nail polish or all-natural lipstick. The way to earn money on the app is to become a “Muse” (basically an influencer) on the site and create your own store to earn a 20 percent commission on the sales of the products you recommend. Musely automatically pays out the 1st and the 15th of each month. The app is rated highly on both iTunes (4.7 out of 5) and Google Play (4.2 stars out of 5). One reviewer wrote, “Loads of DIY tips! It's a great app for health, beauty, crafts and much much more! I'm obsessed!” |

Users, for the most part, like the app. One user wrote, “Great way to earn extra cash during breaks at work or waiting for an appointment. Who doesn't have time for that? I use the points for Amazon gift cards and have cashed out several times in the last year to spoil myself.”\nSlidejoy\nSlidejoy (available for Google Play) pays users for their lock screens. If you wanted to earn more, you could do other things in the app, such as surveys.\nYou can choose to be paid via Square Cash or PayPal (select “normal” mode), or you can donate your earnings to charity. The catch is that when you first sign up, you have to wait approximately three months before you can cash out. After that, it’s a monthly cash-out payment.\nIt’s rated a highly respectable 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google Play, and one reviewer wrote about her experience: “Who doesn't love free money?! Four Stars only because they changed the cash-out options.” One downside: Slidejoy has a rather steep 20 percent cash-out fee.\nBookscouter\n“Great way of getting rid of books,” wrote one user of the Bookscouter app (available for iOS and Android). “I got $170 from selling four books. The highest buyer is automatically put at the top so you can get the most for your books. I will definitely use again.”\nThe Bookscouter app allows you to earn money by selling your new and old books. Once you download the app, it’s easy to register (using your email address or through Facebook or other social networks). Then, start scanning book barcodes (using your phone’s camera) and see an aggregation of buyback prices from book-buyers, with the highest buyer at the top. Shipping is free.\nReviewers have given Bookscouter their endorsements on iTunes (3.3 out of 5) and Google Play (3.9 out of 5). However, keep in mind, not all the books scanned will produce price codes and some of the offers to buy your books disappear when you follow up. However, as one reviewer said, “Getting paid even $15 for books I was going to give away seems worth it to me! Clear clutter AND get some cash.”\nToluna\nAs a market research app, Toluna (available for iOS and Android) stands out in the crowd, because users can get paid in cash using PayPal, and also the app offers rewards for more than just taking surveys -- you can also create your own surveys (e.g. based on current events, shampoo habits or opinion on latest tech gadget) that can earn you bonus points.\nRegistration is simple, and to get a feel for how you can make the most out of Toluna, you can watch a webinar on ways you can milk the app. (Look for the next webinar in your notifications, on the upper-right-hand side of screen, which tells you about new surveys available.)\nThe app is rated 3.8 out of 5 stars on iTunes and 3.3 out of 5 stars on Google Play.\n“Be patient and persevere! I've been here just a bit over a year and it's been wonderful. When you get enough points, go to the rewards center and choose what you like! If you go for cash, I like the PayPal advantage over waiting on a paper check,” wrote one user on the Toluna community blog.\nRelated: A Step-by-Step Guide To Building Your First Mobile App\nUserfeel\nThe Userfeel app (available for iOS and Android) allows you to participate in usability tests, meaning you get paid to visit and explore new websites, perform various simple tasks on the site and offer recorded feedback and critiques. (There is a helpful video on the website that provides a clear illustration of what is expected.)\nEach test lasts 10 to 20 minutes, and you're paid $10 a test in cash via PayPal or Payoneer.\nOne of the standout features of this app is that you take an initial “qualifications test,” which records your voice and your screen as you walk through given tasks. This is a version of what you’ll be doing, but it’s unpaid and meant to not only test whether the app is working, but also to give you a rating by the UserFeel team. The better your rating, the more tests that will be assigned to you.\nThe app scored 3.2 out of 5 on Google Play. One UserFeel reviewer wrote, “I had few issues uploading my video, but their support team was able to help me recover it, and I got paid for my test. Very easy way to make some extra money. I can’t wait to [do] another test.” Some of the reviews mentioned the app crashing as the user was trying to upload the test video, however the Userfeel support team was responsive in trying to resolve these issues.\nRelated: To Avoid Distractions and Stay off Facebook, This Entrepreneur Uses a Special App That Limits His Internet Use\nMusely\nMusely (available for iOS and Android) is an online community and marketplace app for eco-friendly beauty and home products, as well as a social platform for women to share and receive healthy lifestyle advice and tips ranging from parenting to skincare to fitness. On Musely, you can shop for organic, up-and-coming brands and eco-friendly products, such as toxin-free nail polish or all-natural lipstick.\nThe way to earn money on the app is to become a “Muse” (basically an influencer) on the site and create your own store to earn a 20 percent commission on the sales of the products you recommend. Musely automatically pays out the 1st and the 15th of each month.\nThe app is rated highly on both iTunes (4.7 out of 5) and Google Play (4.2 stars out of 5). One reviewer wrote, “Loads of DIY tips! It's a great app for health, beauty, crafts and much much more! I'm obsessed!”",
