| title | Monday Surprises |
| body | Spring cleaning began in my house today when my fiancé had an unexpected day off. We live in a house built by my great-grandfather. My great-grandmother lived here her entire adult life, and my grandmother who lives next door grew up in this house. Moving in required the cleaning of a lifetime. Every room needed cleaning from the ceiling down. Windows needed caulking, sinks and tubs needed replacing, someone had actually smeared menthol chewing tobacco all over the living room walls. The room intended as the nursery currently needs all of the walls ripped out because whoever fixed the room last put the drywall on backwards. can you believe it? It has definitely been a process to live here, but the house continues to surprise me. Previously, we found old jars from my great-grandmother in the dirt cellar, along with a buried cast iron furnace. We have found bullet shells and dated toys, and practically a field of wild blackberries hidden in the woods on the hill behind the house. We even uncovered my great-grandmother's piano. I thought we were done with these discoveries, but in my kitchen is a shelf that is about 2 1/2 ft deep, and of course, I can't reach all the way back. With today's spring cleaning, I asked my fiancé to pull the pots and pans out that had been pushed to the back. When he was done, he brings me a small jar and said he had found it in the cabinet. Under the grime, was a small glass container of dill weed. You can tell how old it was because it has a wooden lid. I'm only 26, but I have to admit, I have never seen this level of craftsmanship in a spice container. I had to share because I felt it was an impressive find. I opened it to smell, and it is still good! I couldn't believe it. It is just about the only spice I didn't have in my cabinet. Somehow, my great-grandmother left it for me! I can only imagine what is left to find when we tear down the walls of the nursery, or the barn attachment of the house. The attachment is falling apart and the previous owner used it as a chicken coupe, but there is still one alcove of the attachment we have yet to search. After over two years, I have a renewed excitement to see what is still around this old place. If anyone has suggestions or tips on fairly easy ways to continue restoring the house, feel free to comment! Thanks for sharing in this find with me! |

| body | Amendment II Proposed by Congress September 25, 1789. Ratified December 15, 1791. A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. - taken from www.archivesfoundation.org I would like to start by saying that before reading anything else in this post, keep in mind that I am not going to respond to any instigations of a debate on 9/11 or the precedence of the war on terror. Whether or not you believe it, I believe the US government has been terrorizing its own people for well over 20 years, continuously changing the method and enemy to prevent notice enough for an uprising. The US currently meets 3 of the 4 elements present during all historical revolutions. I hope you can at least recognize that any government would begin laying foundations to prevent this action if it can so obviously be seen coming. The best method of preventing a revolution is taking away the ability to fight the government. I.E. take away the ability to form a people's militia without outside weapons trading. If you read my introductory post, you will see that I've studied history for quite a while now, and I am from New England, practically born with an innate desire to rebel against tyrannical power. When proposing the constitution, the major argument against it was a central government having tyrannical power. Thus, the Bill of Rights. We've already given up some of our first and third amendment rights in the past years. Now there is discussion of taking away our second amendment rights. There are other countries that do not give this Right to their people, but we have it, why would we give it up? The idea that because there have been school shootings, there shouldn't be guns, is the equivalent of saying that because people drive drunk and kill people, we shouldn't be allowed to have a license. You cannot punish an innocent person for the crimes of another. As far as I am concerned, these actions, the ones that actually take place, are the problems of the parents and the schools. At least where I live, a gun must be kept in one locked cabinet, and ammunition in another. So an underage person who obtains a gun has more than likely gotten ahold of it because their parents did not follow this guideline. Furthermore, how have the parents not noticed the pain and suffering of their child. At college level, the actions are harder to prevent, but again, the family of the perpetrator should have been aware that something was wrong. If that student does not have a family, then that school is responsible for their well being. They live there, that makes them your responsibility. You cannot say, "they're an adult, they are their own responsibility," because until that person has been on their own outside of an academic setting, they are not an adult. Age does not equal knowledge or responsibility. My father owns many rifles, is he responsible for a death 10 states away. NO. In fact, the only time my father has ever even loaded one of these weapons was to defend his family when a rabid raccoon walked right into our front yard. Is the NRA responsible, also a big NO. I am constantly seeing people trying to bring down politicians because that is where x amount of their campaign funds come from. Chances are, it isn't even a tenth of the full fund. Most the time the donations are less than 10k. On top of that, how many politicians get money from places that the politician's supporters may not approve of? All of them. How many of those politicians go on to do good things once they are in office? More than most people like to admit. I say this because many people forget that our state officials are not our central government, some of them are actually doing a good job. The NRA has every right to exist without being slandered for every misdeed that ever happens with a firearm. Again, would you blame the DMV for a drunk driver? How many people out there have forgotten the lives lost because a gun was in school? There are a lot more than you think. Or the kids who hang themselves because of bullies. Will we take rope away instead of putting an end to bullying? Basically, our government controls our media. Our media is making us afraid of people with guns. Our media is trying to make us want to give up guns. Transitive property, our government is trying to scare us into giving away our methods of defending ourselves, by giving away our inherent Rights as a citizen. Does this remind you of anyone? Hitler, maybe? If it doesn't, you don't know enough about him as a politician. It should be obvious by now that I disagree entirely with taking away our second amendment Rights, but more than that, I disagree with the lack of counter measure taken if they were taken away. For instance, we have been fighting police brutality for years, and not just against people of color. Because for the love of whatever God you believe in, you need to get it through your head that white people are a MINORITY, so the majority of articles about citizens will obviously not be about a white person. The majority in America is Asian American, then African American. NOT Caucasian(a term I've never quite understood, I am not from Caucus, nor have I ever been there.) Just because a bunch of snotty old white men have lifetime positions in the government does not mean we are to blame or that we are not suffering from what is happening just as much as the next person. Not to mention that all of those snotty old white men will croak soon, and then what? Most of the upcoming politicians are not white. So find the actual cause why don't you. But I digress, the point is, if citizens have no weapons to defend themselves with, then police officers should not be carrying guns. I am not going to die because some moron decided I shouldn't be allowed to defend myself against a crooked figure of authority. On the subject of school shootings, while discussions of taking away my Rights are happening, the subject of allowing teachers to arm themselves is actually rolling around. So let us give weapons to the most underpaid and underappreciated profession in the country, then wait and see what happens when some jackass high school student starts harassing their teacher because they think their untouchable and haven't learned that actions have consequences. It has already happened, many times. Teacher snap just like anyone else. So obviously not an answer there. That covers the majority of my opinions on the subject, but for those of you who are reading this from the opposing argument, I'd like to remind you of a few things. Have you ever seen the Simpsons? Lisa wishes for world peace, and everyone gets rid of their guns. Then aliens land, and we are defenseless. On this premise, the US government is in debt to multiple nations that do not necessarily appreciate us right now, or see us repaying our debts any time in the future. How can the government pay off debt to a foreign country when every single piece of US currency is borrowed money from the Federal Reserve to begin with? So when these other countries decide to come and take over, as a loan shark comes and takes your collateral, how shall we, the people, defend ourselves? I, for one, do not trust the military of a government that cares so little about my safety it would take my Rights away to begin with to defend me and my family. |

| title | Periodontal Disease? Why? |
| body | I recently had my first child, and during pregnancy he was taking a ridiculous amount of my calcium and my teeth became so weak I actually lost one of them. So I went to the dentist, despite my lack of insurance. I have always taken good care of my teeth, but as a child and early teen I did not floss. As an adult I did. So why then, brushing twice a day, was I told that I had periodontal disease? Come to find out, a few of my friends do too. We have not even hit 30 yet, so how can our teeth have such deep pockets? I blame our mothers. Now before you accuse me of being overly Freudian, because while I approve many of his theories, I am definitely more in the Jung corner, hear me out. How many of you have heard someone say, or had the thought, "why worry so much about baby teeth, they're going to fall out anyways." Here is why. The longer it takes for a tooth to break through the gum, the stronger it is. Why? Because it has longer to harden before being exposed to the erosion of acidic foods and tartar build-up. This does not only apply to baby teeth. The longer those first teeth last, the longer the adult teeth have to build up underneath. It is rare that the adult tooth tries to come out before the baby tooth is lost so don't worry about that. Fact: the more decay in baby teeth, the more prone to decay the adult teeth will be. What all of this means is that parents need to care for their child's teeth, as in daily brushing, beginning with the first tooth. If the parent doesn't brush the baby teeth, the child has a harder time developing the habit on their own when it is time, and the adult teeth end up weak because of the early exposure to decay. Meaning that despite lifelong, at minimum, decent, care of my teeth, I have periodontitis. Talked to my mother, and no, she did not care for my teeth as an infant. If you are anything like me, you might be thinking, why does it matter? The damage was already done. It matters because you can prevent it from happening to future generations, if not entirely, you at least have the power to give your kids a fighting chance at decent teeth as an adult. However, those of us who have this issue now might also have issues taking care of these deep pockets to prevent further decay. Resulting in teeth being pulled, early dentures, and the dreaded root canal or expensive crown. I've recently made a discovery in tooth care that I think anyone else with periodontal disease should know about: Infant toothbrushes. A lot of people don't realize that whitening toothpaste and anything other than a soft toothbrush will erode your teeth and make them sensitive. They also don't realize that a toothbrush too large for your mouth will never provide a proper clean, which is why electric toothbrushes, like the ones at the dentist during a cleaning, do only a single tooth at a time. An infant toothbrush is labeled, "ultrasoft," and it is almost as small as the head of an electric toothbrush. I was having pain and bleeding every time I brushed trying to keep my deep pockets clean and prevent further decay. Then I bought my son his first toothbrush, and they came in packages of two. I bought myself a new toothbrush at the same time and even though it was soft, it was so big I was struggling to brush. So one day I pulled out the second infant toothbrush. I applied my toothpaste, natural and whitening free of course, and brushed one side of my mouth. Then I reapplied and brushed the other side. I honestly couldn't believe the results at first. I could actually feel the bristles getting into my deep pockets between teeth, but without pain, There hasn't been any bleeding since I switched, and now that I can get into those pockets, I've noticed a drastic decrease in tartar between teeth when flossing. Either dentists don't realize how well this works for periodontitis or they're trying to fatten their wallets through your pain and suffering. If you are suffering from this condition, go out and get an infant toothbrush. It actually will change your life. Hannaford has them, $2 for 2. Switching your brush every 3 months as recommended, that is $4 a year to keep your own teeth longer. Obviously a no-brainer. This article was primarily to share my ideas on the cause of periodontal disease and my care discovery. However, I would like to close by saying that as a WAHM(Work at home mom,) I am always trying to find better and cheaper ways to care for myself and my family while avoiding the many things in the US that will pollute your body. So if you enjoyed the subject matter, or only the part about better care of your teeth for $4 a year, follow me. I can guarantee there will be more articles like this. Hopefully not more about teeth though! You might suffer a few of my opinions or radical ideas once in a while, but it would be worth your time. |

| body | Hello all on Steemit. I joined the site almost a year ago and this is my first post. As you can see, I am a procrastinator, but more importantly, I hate social media. I have had a few of my own blogs before on different subjects, particularly in college, but I haven't done anything recently. A life-long friend suggested the site because in his opinion it was the best of both worlds, and, "you(meaning me,) have a lot of good things to say." However, when I joined it said my first post should be an introduction, and what remotely intelligent person actually enjoys talking about themselves to a bunch of strangers? I've always stood by, "stupid people talk about themselves and others, average people talk about things and events, smart people talk about ideas." So here I am, finally attempting to introduce myself. Like everyone else, I am always changing and discovering new interests. I guess that the best introduction, instead of trying to describe myself, would be some background? Let us begin. 27(almost) year-old female from New England. WAHM, he is 6 months old and miles ahead of the curve. Editor, Writer, Record store owner. I write everything from Academic Journals to fiction novels and lyrics for my incredibly talented musician fiancé. I have been submitting resumes to attempt to do travel writing as well. I am 3/4 of the way through my degree, double major-English and History. It is incomplete because shortly after I moved in with my fiancé he was injured and had to make a (daytime) career change, meaning I had to take some time off school to work. What goes around comes around though, as now I get to stay home with my baby all day and work on my writing and finishing that degree. I always saw myself growing up to be a world traveler, but as of yet I have only been to China, Japan, Canada, and of course, since I was born there, the US. I thought I would be backpacking the US this year, but it was put on hold until my son is a little older and can join me. Backpacking the US sounds strange, I admit, but everyone does Europe and I would like to see my own country first. However, we are saving up for a honeymoon to hike Kerry Way, with a one day shortcut across the Ring of Kerry to get to the beach. If you don't know what I am talking about, look it up. It is incredible. After the 10 days it should take for that, we will explore the rest of Ireland, then the UK. Overall, it should be a 2 month trip. Lots of fun! I guess that gives a brief background on me plus a few of my current goals and aspirations. I guess if there is more you want to know you will just have to read my future posts. They could be anything I suppose. Ideas, tidbits of my writing, or I might share something I've learned that others might like to know. I do like to share information as it solidifies it in my memory. We will see what happens. |

\nI guess that gives a brief background on me plus a few of my current goals and aspirations. I guess if there is more you want to know you will just have to read my future posts. They could be anything I suppose. Ideas, tidbits of my writing, or I might share something I've learned that others might like to know. I do like to share information as it solidifies it in my memory. We will see what happens.",
