This piece probably is more than a year old righ now, and it was the first time that I felt \"hey, I can really become a professional artist someday\".\n![you_are_so_art_deco.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUjhhmtw48mm6HkqAXVvJJKBr8xBztdJomtYwieqtXD8A/you_are_so_art_deco.png)\n\nTill that point, all my work was been really amateur, with a lot of flat solid colors, lack of value knowledge and far away from the results that I wanted to reach, but well, everyone needs to begin somewhere and by that time I barely had software and art knowledge to pull out something. I was also frustrated that I haven't developed a unique style or anything like that (stuff that beginners tend to stress a lot about, and that really aren't so important in the beginning :P). Furthermore, I was struggling with how to use reference and not straight copying it, about how could I give it my own twist.\n\nThat was when I decided to do a caricature. By the time I was also doing some research for the College about Art Deco, which is a design, artistic and architectural movement that marked the 30's (I'll probably be talking more about it in the future, since I really like the Art Deco aesthetic), and that was inspiration for me to use this aesthetic as subject for the caricature.\n\n![1.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmaDyy4s4U5SqVRzMoKuXP57PtRtGvU8mn7QN2WxuURBXZ/1.png)\n> _The reference, side  by side with the final result_\n\nThe first big difference between this and the rest of my work so far, was that (believe it or not), I first discovered the marvelous world of changing the brush opacity in Photoshop. It may be something silly to think it now, but that's to show how clueless I was when I began. That allowed me to do more soft transitions and convey materials like skin and hair in a more satisfactory way and I also started to pay more attention to values since then, thanks to this piece. In the beggining this work was supposed to be a full illustrated caricature, but it took me so long to finish the head and the hair (especially the hair, omg) that to not throw it in the limbo I decided to turn it into a photobash, changing only the head and keeping the rest of the original picture.\n\nI'm aware that the final piece has it flaws and I would probably do it in a different way today, but doing it was so good for my development as an artist as much technical as motivational.\n\n---\n\nSo yeah, if you are a beginner artist as myself (well, I still a beginner of some sort) and are worried about finding your own style, maybe try out some caricature.       "body": "Ikr? xD\nI was a little bit worried about the decision of Nintendo inserting Mario in some more \"real world reality\" for it proved in the past (I'm looking at you, Sonic) to be a huge failure. Though, a friend of mine told me something that made much sense. In the Previous Sonic's game, they builded a realistic town, and put Sonic into that (what made the game looks like a GTA mod), but in Odyssey, they builded the world around the Mario's thematics, with Mario like elements all around, so the game didn't look strange at all. It was designed to embrace Mario.",

Switch is falling in the local coop, aside for Mario Kart 8 DX at the moment (which is a really good game, I have the WiiU version and it's really fun), and a later future Splatoon 2 will have local coop as well, but you'll probably need to buy spare controllers....In the end, the best is to wait...About Snipper Clips yeah, it is really cool, but it's definitly not a system seller for the game is very short.",

      "body": "Well, in the \"whether should I buy a Switch\" department,  I would say id havelly depends on the kind of game you are looking for. If you are a Zelda fan and don't have a Wii U,  Breath of the Wild  it's quite a system seller to be considered. There' also RPG with Xenoblade 2 and adventure/platformer with Mario Odyssey , plus the competitive games of Splatoon and ARMS coming along... Switch actually has a great launch window till next year. Problem is, the future is uncertain... Wii U was also doing well at the beggining (although, not even close to the Switch sucess)...\n\nThe smartest move would probably be to wait till next year to see what thirdy partys and Nintendo will bring to Switch...But, if you are already a Nintendo games fan, it's almost certain that in the first party department, Nintendo wouldn't disappoint. Plus the system is neat, with a beautiful screen and even some fun indies as well  (I don't own one myself, not because I didn't want it, but mostly because of lack of money...but I playd Snipper Clips in a friend's console, and the game is hell fun xD).",

That being said, it's a little bit strange that my first post after that will not be necessarely art related, but by chance, this very week is happening (probably) the greatest event video game's related of the year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (a.k.a E3). I'm a huge enthusiastic of the event, and have been accompaning it for some years, considering it a huge part of my year (almost like a holyday to me), and I sincerelly dream of participating personally in one some day.\n\nSince I'm also a huge Nintendo fan, I would be covering here most of its presentation and performance this year, though I'll probably share some thoughts on other presentations as well. So, let's get started?\n\n---\n\n![spotlight.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUBcDv3CruWHwpr8knoXcvqMUdphARxyBog9kADGEamEq/spotlight.png)\n\n# **The \"Spotlight\"**\n\nFor some years now Nintendo, instead of doing the classical E3's press conference has choose to do a \"Nintendo Direct\" video style, which is just a pre-recorded presentation with some Nintendo's staff talking about the games, consoles and future releases followed by a \"Nintendo Treehouse\" showcasing some of the content shown at the Direct (mostly gameplay). From my perspective, I really miss the good and old one hour long press conferences with thousands of people on the crowd, making some noise and reacting in real time to what have been just shown. It was an awesome feeling and helped building a lot of hype (something that Nintendo is slowly learning how to do, but still far away from some it's competitors).\n\n![1.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmX6mBri4F88TXqWwXYMYnNe166FMLq7M5JjyQ5Djk4acm/1.png)\n>_The girl on the bottom left scared me a bit when she appeared fixedly staring at the screen_\n\nAlthough the format has been working (not being a huge success though) so far for them, this year they choose to do something a little different: the \"Spotlight\". A 25 minutes long presentation (very small, compared to the past years) full of inconsistency and promisses. I believe they made it this way due to the lack of content to be shown, which for me is a more reliable option than putting Mr. Miyamoto playing a guitar and some Mario tribute for almost 15 minutes long (some of you may know what I'm talking about).\n\nNintendo started they'r 2017 presentation by showing a bunch of movie clips of random people in random situations playing with they'r Nintendo Switch while boxing, staring at the nothing or doing some tricks with a soccer ball, all normal situations where one would take out his Switch to play. The bizarre introduction showed some already announced games being played, like ARMS, Splatoon 2, Fifa 18 plus a new revelation like the Switch version of Rocket League to be finally followed by Mr. Reggie Fills Aime.\n\n![2.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSbYSuTdpMhh31GWuikcgdkEzZ1PBq76HyWjLDbdPA77x/2.png)\n> _\"[...]But in the end, is not just where you can take your game, it's where your game can take you.\" \n>I must admit those where some beautiful words told by Mr. Reggie_\n\nAfter the brief Reggie's introduction, they jumped to some games.\n\n# **The \"Games\"**\n\nThe first big appearance of the show's existence's purpose was Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a title that was shown the first time at the Switch's introduction early this year. Very little was shown that time, but now they expanded our knowledge of the game and it's beautifull combination of anime style characters and realistc enviroment and enemys. I LOVE the original Xenoblade Chronicles as it is for me the best JRPG I've ever played and I encourage you to give it a try, for it's history is amazingly well developed with a lot of plot twists and revelations along the way. Even though so far the actuall third installment on the franchise looks to have every shounen anime cliche ever, I still looking forward to it since I know Monolith Soft is a very competent company. The only true critic so far is concerning the characters voice over which laks emotion and quality. Hope they keep the original Xenoblade's option to change to japanese voice over.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjpao-nD5YU\n\n>_For my surprise, the game wasn't delayed either and looks almost finished, to be released this holidays_\n\nAfter that, some classical Nintendo inconsistence kicked  up. First, they showed a new Kirby game coming to Nintendo Switch (that looks visually pretty, but doesn't seem to be more than the avarage Kirby experience) with release date planned to 2018. Then, Mr. Shinya Takahashi appear praising the Switch and it's community just to pass the bar to Pokémon's company Tsunekazo Ishihara, who talked about Pokkén Tournament DX (a game already announced before) and a promise of a future Pokémon main series game, which development just started and shouldn't be expected not even a year from now. Back to Mr. Takahashi, who says Nintendo will be focusing on the E3 mainly on games that are coming on 2017, just to do what in te sequence? Tell the public that another game is being developed, with just a tease and no more information.\n\n![3.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQr3BydB6ghwsQsBs5YazGwiDAX1DEgzeY7rL3tUee6UF/3.png)\n>_Metroid Prime 4 was a delightful announce even without a single game image. It's good to see Nintendo hasn't forgotten Samus after all, but surpriseling isn't being developed by Retro Studios_\n\nAfter showing 1 game for 2018, 2 games far from the near future and said they'll be showing mostly stuff for 2017 (?), Nintendo showed a new Yoshi game (that, guess what? is also planned to 2018) that appear to share some similarities with Yoshi's Woolly World. They have been put Yoshi under the \"spotlight\" (pun not intended) for quite some time now, although I don't really see way (don't know if the Woolly World franchise is actually this popular).\n\nFire Emblem Warriors was showcased on the sequence. The game looks okay if you are a fan of Dynasty Warriors game style (which is not my case), but was at least at the 2017 launch window. I would say no, but was a really mediocre one. And in that point, it wasn't a Nintendo exclusivity either. Whether it's good or not is another history) and inconsistences, they are trying to reach a broader audience  of gamers and it have been proving wealthy to them since the Switch launch, whitout even talking about the Treehouse that kicked right after the spotlight with some new content, reveals, gameplay of the showcased games and tournaments.\n\nNintendo didn't promissed a lot for this E3, and they give us most of what was expected plus some welcome surprises.
