      "body": "![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSStVpLHAhRc6eqBRGvAQKDXZGCeehookqqxwEvMq5cQt/image.png)\n\nWriting this of the back of going to a meet up this week , I had written a rant initially which I have stepped away from\n\nThere are loads of crypto debit card offerings out there is an article here from some months ago on a \"full list\"\n\nhttps://steemit.com/bitcoin/@bitcoinshirtz/a-full-list-of-bitcoin-debit-cards-for-2017\n\nSo slightly different to a lot of the meet ups to date\n\nhttps://www.meetup.com/Bitcoin-Beer-Club/events/247380418/\n\nBeer Pizza , random conversations and a presentation that has resulted in my comments below\n\nSpoke to a \"At home FX trader\" who wants to learn more about crypto and use his model trading,  I gave him some pointers to websites and https://mycrypto.guide/.\n\nThere was then a presentation from Wirex\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeb3EQ3kExUbUK3J2YAfR6C4hrZwjjYfiDRvJA9xyAoYx/image.png)\n\nYOTI also did some quick update\n\nThey are a KYC on your phone app which I wanted to follow up on , however after handing back to  Wirex the evening took a turn for me and I pursued another conversation which is below.  I appreciate this is a personal lens and the context is below\n\nThey started with the the big sell of banking being legacy and we are blazing a new trail world \n\nOk fair enough I get it there is a lot of legacy out there and yes there is transformation on the way , I buy into that .\n\nHowever I have walked away from this tonight in a very  indifferent mood.\n\nWirex sponsored the event , I happen to have an account with them and purchased a plastic visa card just before the Wavecrest issue which left it and lot of other providers with  a redundant product.\n\nI will say at this point I commend the WIrex response they fronted it up , ran some live online updates and dealt with some pretty angry feedback at this point in the best way they could - Well done so far.\n\nI also am not in this with my eyes closed, its early days there are going to be bumps in the road and you need to be prepared at this point to lose it all. So dont put your house on it and expect that services like this are going to have challeges\n\nI am of the opinion that this tech will transform the landscape , what has frustrated me was ithe sell that took place with little recognition of the challenges they have had , so if you walked in there not knowing the history  of the recent issues you would be none the wiser.  That was unless you heard my challenge to one of the reps.\n\nThis to me is matter of trust , They painted that Wirex is going to make Banking look like the dark ages its and what they have coming is going blow traditional banking away , a crypto debit card soon that will change everything.\n\nThere was also a prize on offer , 4 lucky individuals would walk away tonight being the first 4 to get accounts in the UK and get a tour of their office.\n\nThis is where the Victor Meldrew in me started to get upset \n\n I am already a customer, I had a card which I paid for , it was cancelled in a week and there has been no product since the 5th January ,  I am down the fee it cost me to send bitcoin to wirex , down again the fee  on the way out and the fee for the card. which I think was £15\n\nI challenged  them on this , I did provide the context of I was impressed with their response but dont claim to be taking down the banks when your product was made redundant over night and not operational since. Even RBS with the issues they had were not out this long.\n\nI got little empathy, no we are going to make good customers like yourself that have been impacted. I could sense the please go away now and never really felt like there was a feel he wanted to reconcile with me.\n\nThe conversation moved on and I then started to speak to one of the other attendees, but I dragged myself back in when I heard\n\n \"it's not our fault\" \n\nIn that small moment it undermined the whole offering , what you are basically saying is :\n\nWe will  charge you for a card to provide a service  but  have not control over it end to end so you are on your own if it fails.\n\nAnd their right in the sense that a \"3rd Party\" has impacted them and its beyond their control and this is where the issue is. One of the driving forces behind the crypto movement is that you remove the 3rd party.\n\nThe Wirex product itself can be the best of the best world beating tech but if its relying on the legacy banking system they are claiming to displace then we have not really progressed have we ?\n\nI also dont like the \"It's not our fault\" stance, if you are offering a service and claiming to displace another in the way that they did you cant then use then claim its not your fault.\n\nSo had they called this out , had they highlighted this constraint or risk everyone there could make an informed decision and more importantly created a trust which I now dont have.\n\nStill a long way to go before Wirex can claim they are blowing away traditional banks RBS had issues but they were not out this long and they really need to work on their messaging at events like this and how they deal with a current paid up out of pocket customer.",

He wrote articles and founded bitcoin magazine when 17 then to uni of waterloo to study computer science after 6 months dropped out went travelling to work on \"bitcoin 2.0\"  what else could you do with it was his question\n\nInitially all everyone did was take bitcoin code changeit  and relaunch it , trying to get the miners to move is a very difficult thing to do at the required scale\n\nVitalek felt  that people wanted Bitcoin  to be a Platform & an  Application to  change bitcoin retro was not easy \n\nRealised a platform was required to build applications on so that is what he did and Ethereum was born.\n\nHe then started to talk to the Sweetbridge use case , to date one of its primary use cases has been crowdsales , we are moving towards all  world where assets can be represented in token form\n\nLegally enforceable smart contracts - comercial deal with triggers that today are a paper contract\n\nBig name law forms digitising these contracts which are - legally enforceable via  arbitration\n\nYou could tokenize your house  receive funds to pay for it, in the vent of non payment  use abitration to settle the terms of the contract\n\nCited that Arbitration is the result of   maritime - Ships in international waters need decisions made on which duristcition they are in / what laws apply in the event of an issue.\n\nMost things dont go to court  as you have  the \"beating stick\n\nUsed this to demonstrate how the Sweetbridge \"rules\" would be enforced\n\nThere was then a Q&A session which I did not capture the details of , I did follow up with a question around the margin call aspect of Sweetbridge\n\nQuick brief on how the platform works:\n\n\nA purchase of Sweetcoin along with associated KYC process enables :\n\nYou access to the platform\nCan offset the interest you pay on a loan\n\nIts key here to note that while Sweetcoin is tradeable in order to utilise it on the platform you have to go through the KYC process.\n\nThe amount of Sweetcoin you buy will dictate how much you can \"leverage\" and that is the key here and I will attempt an example below:\n\n\nYou hold 2k of sweetcoin\n\nDeposit 100 Bitcoin into a \"vault\" a smart contract that \"locks\" up the Bitcoin\n\nYou can then borrow bridgecoin which is pegged to the $ (initially) up to half the value of the Bitcoin\n\nThe bridgecoin is then yours to spend as you please , trade it for FIAT , but more coins ....\n\nYou will need to pay back the bridgecoin in order to get your Bitcoin back\n\nIf the price of bitcoin starts to fall based on a \"threshold\" you will have the option of  paying back some of your bridgecoin or some of your bitcoin will be sold to offset.\n\nHere is where I had a question, the markets can be and indeed have been volatile, so what is the margin call period, if there is a swing down of 50% and then back up 80% within a day am I going to lose out ?\n\nThe team did not have the answer to this one on the night, despite this its a project I am going to follow closely , they have some very credible individuals involved, I can see that they genuinely believe in making the platform a success.\n\nI have gone through the KYC process and it is more involved than typical of an ICO of late, once I get an invite to invest I will maybe put up a post around this , however I do want that margin call question covered off first.",
