| body | Take little breaks from life and listen to what nature tells you. https://youtu.be/dw7rQysfv3U Don't take the umbrella with you and let rain cleanse your soul. Repeat this until you feel clean on the inside. You can't turn a bad situation around if you are stuck in the old fashioned ways. So, why not go crazy wet and smell your shampoo, trust me everyone appreciates that smell but you, but when rain hits you, that smell comes out as a bird in captivation... Stay positive all! |

| body | For this one, I will continue to illuminate the different key points of vocabulary teaching. I'm going to introduce one activity that I get delirious to use. Flyswatters! (or something less fancy) You can't imagine the surprise I observe each time I show them the swatters... They are used to traditional style of teaching and those kind of additions make them grin and anxious both at the same time... New is sometimes horrifying... After successfully introducing the new vocabulary, involving the students in practicing is of great importance. I make use of PowerPoint Slides very frequently. Here are some examples I use with my beginner students, having introduced the things in the house, I challenged them to beat the other group. One person from each group grabbed a flyswatter and came to the board, waiting for me to click to change the slide... And finally this is it, first thing they see is usually the picture, that is a mirror. The first to find and hit on the correct word gets two points, if the other student successfully pronounces the word, the other group gets one. This is my way of emphasizing the importance of pronounciation... As is obvious on the photo, adding some unrelated words to mix things up is also good. *Don't forget to warn the students to keep silent because they get loud for sure and this is not kindergarten (but it can be)...* *Make it more challenging and tell the students they only have one shot...* *Spelling also matters, so maybe add words that only differ one letter from the target...* Students appreciate the challenge when you give them the chance to beat it. There are some other flyswatter activities I'm familiar with and comfortable with using. I will be sharing A LOT more of them. As is implied in the title, this is a thread, pay a visit to my blog and see my previous posts on teaching vocabulary and leave comments, please. Stay tuned, be productive... |

| body | Previously, I told you it is perfectly useful to introduce new vocabulary via visuals especially when they are concrete terms. But sometimes visuals can be used to introduce proverbs or simply to grow suspense / grab attention. So, below is a picture of two unevenly green grass on either side of a fence. You can start off to introduce the word "fence" and then make them notice the slight difference of color and ask them if they know about the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". They might know it, as it is among the lyrics of the famous hearththrob Bieber's once popular song, "As Long As You Love Me"; https://youtu.be/R4em3LKQCAQ Cut to the chase, next step in line is you gotta ask the students to discuss the meaning of the saying in groups, to produce their own ideas, make those brains work, they don't come to class to master the grammatical formulations only (They might not be aware of this, tho.) *To sum up;* 1- Show them the picture to elicit the saying 2- Introduce the unknown words (This might come first in line depending on the background of the class) 3- Involve the students in guessing the meaning of it 4- Listen to their ideas, tell them the correct answer (Don't forget to praise the students who attempt to talk, this is a delicate issue, you can't imagine how much it affects them) 5- Now that you have the audience with you, continue with your lesson with whatever comes next. I'm having trouble getting the Steem community to support me or share with me the ideas they have but I will keep doing this as it is one of the few areas I feel comfortable with bossing around... Comment below anything, love to share with you. Peace out! |

| body | I am an English Language Teacher, I studied at a private university but I was on a full ride so I paid approximately none for the school, I never grow tired of bragging about it. I also attended CELTA course last July to keep it fresh. If you don't know about it, it is a course Cambridge University offers, the intensive course takes 4 months to complete and in the end, you have revised the whole of university curriculum and add some depth to it. Now I have a more clear idea of how to teach. I live in Turkey and Turkish students are by all means stubborn as a mule (In Turkish, we say "goat") they feel they are bound to traditional methods and just because they pay, they own you and they can order you to teach in the way they desire (or let's adopt a more humanistic approach and say they like to be taught in the way they feel most comfortable with). It was proven once and for all that their method sucks and they can't master the English language. Turkey is known to be sickly educated to speak English. I mean, we can't. We can't speak the language. I believe it is about the mindset we have, the attitude we adopt and the extent to which we allow flexibility in our lives, or in a narrower environment, the classroom. I know during the CELTA course which I took in Turkey the students were nearly open to everything because they promised that and they didn't pay anything they were there to help us, weird. Even though us, candidates failed to offer them good lessons, the majority of them was patient with us and picked up one or two things at the least. In the language school I work for, the students report me almost after every lesson during the first few weeks because I'm different and they do not want someone to have such power on them. I'm telling you, us, Turks are really hard to get on with. From now on, I will share with you the basics, tips and some key activities you can use as a language teacher. *Here comes the first one;* Unlike Turkish, English words is not pronounced as it is written and it creates huge problems in production phases. Human brain works in an odd way. That is, if you encounter a word on a piece of paper, your mind strives to find the correct way to say it and usually fails. So, what the teacher must do is provide the students with the correct pronounciation first, make sure they are comfortable with it by drilling it and only THEN show the spelling. Knowing that, the language students of this age usually keen on learning the language in order to communicate with people (or even migrate, if you are in a shitty country as mine), speaking and thus, producing correct sounds is of great importance. (I'm not saying spelling is of minor importance, folks). *Here is one way I always use in my classes regardless of the proficiency level of the students;* Using of pictures. This always work for concrete (Cambridge dictionary defines it as; clear and certain, or real and existing in a form that can be seen or felt) terms. What is this? Yes, it's "an apple"! (You don't need to explain everything while you present something, or *you might lose the hold of it* and end up in a place that you have failed to foresee before, so here, you don't need to tell the students why they have to use "an" with "apple".) (Here is what I mean by *"you might lose the hold of it";* "Yes, that's an apple, Do you know where apple grows? Oh, a tree! By the way, the person who cuts trees is called a lumberjack and the tool they use is an axe. --- But the next picture is... Yeah, an orange... But your students are still thinking about a lumberjack holding an axe... *In summary;* 1- Pronounciation before the spelling... 2- Stay on the topic... 3- Use pictures where you can (for concrete terms)... 4- Drill the word, your pronunciation is already awesome make sure the what students produce is just as good... 5- Absurdity is actually a key player in teaching... I'm going to cover it later on. Stay with love and please comment below the ideas or any possible concerns you have, try to be constructive, though :) Peace out. |

I live in Turkey and Turkish students are by all means stubborn as a mule (In Turkish, we say \"goat\") they feel they are bound to traditional methods and just because they pay, they own you and they can order you to teach in the way they desire (or let's adopt a more humanistic approach and say they like to be taught in the way they feel most comfortable with). It was proven once and for all that their method sucks and they can't master the English language. \n\nTurkey is known to be sickly educated to speak English. I mean, we can't. We can't speak the language. I believe it is about the mindset we have, the attitude we adopt and the extent to which we allow flexibility in our lives, or in a narrower environment, the classroom.\n\nI know during the CELTA course which I took in Turkey the students were nearly open to everything because they promised that and they didn't pay anything they were there to help us, weird. Even though us, candidates failed to offer them good lessons, the majority of them was patient with us and picked up one or two things at the least. \n\nIn the language school I work for, the students report me almost after every lesson during the first few weeks because I'm different and they do not want someone to have such power on them. I'm telling you, us, Turks are really hard to get on with. \n\nFrom now on, I will share with you the basics, tips and some key activities you can use as a language teacher.\n\n*Here comes the first one;*\nUnlike Turkish, English words is not pronounced as it is written and it creates huge problems in production phases. \n\n*Here is one way I always use in my classes regardless of the proficiency level of the students;*\nUsing of pictures. This always work for concrete (Cambridge dictionary defines it as; clear and certain, or real and existing in a form that can be seen or felt) terms.\n\nWhat is this?\n\n\nYes, it's \"an apple\"! (You don't need to explain everything while you present something, or *you might lose the hold of it* and end up in a place that you have failed to foresee before, so here, you don't need to tell the students why they have to use \"an\" with \"apple\".) \n\n(Here is what I mean by *\"you might lose the hold of it\";* \"Yes, that's an apple, Do you know where apple grows? Oh, a tree! By the way, the person who cuts trees is called a lumberjack and the tool they use is an axe. --- But the next picture is...\n\n\nYeah, an orange... But your students are still thinking about a lumberjack holding an axe...\n\n*In summary;*\n1- Pronounciation before the spelling...\n2- Stay on the topic...\n3- Use pictures where you can (for concrete terms)...\n4- Drill the word, your pronunciation is already awesome make sure the what students produce is just as good...\n5- Absurdity is actually a key player in teaching... I'm going to cover it later on.\n\nStay with love and please comment below the ideas or any possible concerns you have, try to be constructive, though :) Peace out.",

| body | I am an English Language Teacher, I studied at a private university but I was on a full ride so I paid approximately none for the school, I never grow tired of bragging about it. I also attended CELTA course last July to keep it fresh. If you don't know about it, it is a course Cambridge University offers, the intensive course takes 4 months to complete and in the end, you have revised the whole of university curriculum and add some depth to it. So, what the teacher must do is provide the students with the correct pronounciation first, make sure they are comfortable with it by drilling it and only THEN show the spelling. | body | Even at night, nature neves ceases to amaze me. I admit it would look a lot better before the blue sky instead of the sorta gloomy one I captured last night... As is my motto now (please let me have this) take a light jacket that will suffice protecting you from cold, a camera (or your mobile phone just like me; that explains the lack of quality of all my photos...) and a positive attitude and go outside. Lift your chin up, stop nagging, have a me time and let your eyes rest. (You know it is scientifically proven that it is good to glare at stuff at a distance is a good practice or let's call it a break for your eyes.) In my case, take pictures and attempt to inspire people and feel good. Love to write for you, stay with love! |

| body | Turkish style, of course... white chocolate and a full banana! I don't like sugary food but as a perfectly sane and healthy woman I get craving for them every now and then but when I do, I do it the king's way and I smash a whole plate right away. I became more of a waffle lover after binge watching Gossip Girl but we don't eat waffles for breakfast as you see below, we eat them as dessert and I bet this is the proper way to do it! I ate the one in the pic outside so I didn't make it but there is a recipe I've been trying and I get some good results. If you don't have the device for it, just skip it but here's the recipe I'd recommend for the dough; 2 cups of flour 4 tea-spoonful of baking powder half a tea-spoon of salt (you can make it a pinch of salt if you are skillful in measuring stuff with your fingers) some sugar but only the one fourth of a regular cup though you can make it even less if you are going to add toppings, too. 2 eggs and no more if you don't wanna get all itchy afterwards. add oil of your choice (preferably vegetable oil) to make the dough soft and not sticky so as not to get your hands ridiculous. 2 cups of milk, be decent and don't use whole milk, it is the devil!!! for the nice smell use a teaspoon of vanilla, I don't know if it does any good to the dough but smells hella fine and the kitchen appreciates it after a long day of frying fish! It will suffice for 3 as long as you don't eat more than 2. Though I gotta admit, I'm just a kid and didn't invent the recipe but I got comfortable with it because I tried it many times, if you want I can share with you the source, too! Have a sweet one, your body appreciates sins, as well!!! |

| body | I finally gave the speech to that person who broke my heart 2.5 years ago. Do I feel more relieved? No. Did I have to do it? Yes. But maybe a bit earlier. I saw my close friends felt tense because of that person and they were concerned about me. I wanted to put an end to their concerns and finally start with a clean sheet in my life where I won't postpone facing my feelings and make other people go with it, too. So, he told me he was afraid to talk to me. I saw him talking to many other girls and this was no excuse. He finally apologized and I told him it was too late already. I feel more powerful than ever, tomorrow I will be even better and so it goes but I don't want anyone with a kind heart to go through these phases with suspense preparing an ambush. My mind works perfectly, it is not like that of an unfortunate person for it erases bad memories when I'm done with them. So, I start every day just as bright as the previous one. It is not something to recommend anyone but wish I could be holding a wand that would do as I order and I would definitely bless everyone with the guts to face the source of their troubles. *What we go through strongly affects our relationship with the people that really care about us.* I'm sure there is at least one person deeply attached to you. No one has to put up with that grumpy face of yours. Do not sacrifice your smile to protect your pride. I've been there, trust me, a smile is worth more than bitcoin... You are precious. Have a good one. See you on brighter days! |
