Therefore Ukraine did not need US military aid to somehow defend itself from Russian so-called 'aggression' which had never happened - and which only happened in 2022 to specifically thwart Kiev's sudden and devastating expanded attacks on ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine. In his impeachment presentation to the US Senate, Castro claimed without any evidence, that a January 6 Capitol occupation protestor had supposedly stolen a laptop from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office with the intent of sending it to Russia. Castro went on to suggest that Russian agents had been actively involved in coordinating the Capitol occupation. Subsequent fact checks found no basis for Castro's claims.\n\nWith that public theatre background established, let's look at the actual 21st century history of Russia and Ukraine, and the US role in that history.\n\nBecause of geopolitical competition over oil and natural gas, the US needs to control Ukraine in order to establish US managed pipeline routes, and to advance the US controlled NATO military 'alliance' to surround all of Russia's European borders.\n\nTo secure this control of Ukraine, in 2014, the Obama administration and the State Department (which Hillary Clinton had built up from 2009 to 2013) completed a many years long, orchestrated, undemocratic coup in Ukraine which was led by neo-Nazi aryan supremacists, who violently took over Ukraine, attempted to make it illegal in Ukraine to speak Russian, and who are still a major force in running the Ukraine government. (The bloody fingerprints of Clinton's right hand in Ukraine, Victoria Nuland, were all over the coup operation. In 2021, Nuland was approved by unanimous consent of both Republicans and Democrats in the US Senate, to become the Biden Administration's Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.)\n\nFollowing the coup, then *Vice President* Joe Biden was assigned by President Obama to be the de facto controller of Ukraine. (Three months later Biden's son Hunter was installed as a board member of the corrupt Ukraine natural gas company Burisma, a position for which Hunter was paid $50,000 per month.)\n\nThe 2014 coup was intended in part, to gain for the US and NATO, strategic sea port control in the peninsula republic of Crimea (at that time part of Ukraine, bordering Russia and the Black Sea). A vast majority of residents in Crimea are ethnic Russians. The Crimeans, fearing the Nazi regime that had just taken over in Kiev, quickly voted to rejoin Russia and *by agreement* with no military action at all, Crimea legally rejoined Russia. There was no supposed ‘invasion’ of Crimea. It did not happen. (Yet *both* Republicans and Democrats are still claiming to this day, that it did.)\n\nA similar vote, for independence from Ukraine, was then held in the majority Russian Donbas region, another key strategic border area between Russia and Ukraine, which includes the now autonomous republics of Luhansk and Donetsk. Russia provided this support both to protect the Russian population in Crimea and Donbas from a threatened genocide, and because Russia’s seaport in Crimea, and the independent border republics of Donbas, are *vital* to preventing NATO from easily attacking Russia from Ukraine.\n\nThousands of people were killed in that civil war, which after 2015 became a smouldering stalemate, which was reduced in intensity, but still caused hundreds of deaths every year. Importantly, these deaths resulted from attacks by Kiev on Donbas, *not* from any Russian 'war on' Ukraine. As noted above, Russia is not engaged in any expansion whatsoever, anywhere on Earth.\n\nThe civil war was ended on February 21, 2022 when, to prevent escalating attacks from Kiev, and possible future attacks from the US itself, Russia formally recognized the independence of Luhansk and Donetsk, and moved troops into the two republics to defend them. Three days later, Russia expanded its intervention with attacks on the US allied west Ukraine, intending to remove Kiev's capacity to continue attacking Donbas, eliminate Nazi elements controlling the Ukraine military, and strategically landlock Kiev away from Black Sea access on Ukraine's south coast (where there is also a sizeable ethnic Russian population).\n\nWhat if the American people who followed the impeachment hearings had known these details, and that Ukraine had become an undemocratic, fascist, puppet coup regime, wielded by the US as a weapon in unprovoked attacks to gain control of oil and natural gas assets? What if they had known that the ongoing US military support of Ukraine has nothing to do with either protecting 'democracy' or protecting US security (other than that 'security' of controlling fossil fuels)?\n\nThere is little doubt that *far* fewer Americans would have supported the impeachment of Trump for withholding military aid to Ukraine. It is an alarm, telling us we are facing our own near term extinction if we do not rapidly and dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reverse deforestation, and curb farm and sewage runoff.\n\n__Current Human Caused Crisis Dangerously Similar To Ancient Extinction Event__\n\nFor over three decades as a full time environmental organizer, I have educated myself on, and fought to reverse, the joint climate and extinction crisis. Part of my education has been to learn about ancient mass extinctions which can be compared to the one humans are causing now.\n\nThe most similar and important of these was the Permian Extinction, 250 million years ago. During that extinction, large volcanic eruptions in Siberia increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causing ponds, lakes, and the oceans to heat up, and to change in acidity. Various factors triggered by the eruptions (including deforestation) increased nutrient content in these water bodies (as humans are currently increasing it with both agricultural and urban sewage waste run-off, and most importantly, through deforestation).\n\nDuring the late Permian these conditions combined to trigger massive 'blooms' of oxygen depleting algae and microbes which suffocated and killed nearly all water based life. Almost all life in the oceans died. Increased CO2, methane, and toxic emissions, along with a collapse of the global food web, all arising from this ocean die-off, then provoked a similar die-off on land. By the end of the Permian collapse, 95% of life on Earth was killed and around 75% of all species went extinct. Here are those basics, starting with the following fundamental premise of Bitcoin..\n\n*Bitcoin Is The Most Important Human Invention Since The Modern Printing Press Was Created In 1436*\n\nAs the printing press took control of written language out of the hands of churches and kings and gave it to the people, Bitcoin is now taking the control of money out of the hands of private banks and governments, and putting it into the hands of the people.\n\nHow does it do this?\n\n*Bitcoin Is The First Form Of Electronic Money That Cannot Be Counterfeited (Sent To More Than One Person At The Same Time)*\n\nBitcoin is created and made secure (so that it can't be counterfeited or confiscated) by computers successfully processing (aka 'mining') very difficult math problems and recording each success in multiple places publicly so it can't be denied *or duplicated* by anyone else. This process creates a Bitcoin every time it is completed.  The owners of the computers crunching the math problems get rewarded by owning the new Bitcoin and also by being paid fees in Bitcoin for helping to transfer already existing Bitcoin from one owner to another. (The initial mining of new Bitcoin requires a lot of energy use, but Bitcoin is actually good for renewable energy and the climate. See below.)\n\nBitcoin is made fully secure and unconfiscatable by the fact that once it is created (or it is transferred from one owner to another) this is recorded in an uneditable public record (called a 'ledger') which is stored in duplicate on thousands of computers all over the world. The unalterable public record and the 'mining' process together make Bitcoin so secure that it has never been hacked or counterfeited. This makes it the most democratic form of money ever created, because no one has to depend any longer on banks or governments to validate money. Bitcoin validates itself without any institution controlling it.\n\n*Why Bitcoin Has Value*\n\nMuch like gold, Bitcoin is strictly limited in supply. Only 21 million Bitcoin can ever be created. This makes it even more limited in supply than gold, and therefore even more valuable than gold as a way to store value and personal wealth. This is why the Bitcoin price has been consistently rising since it was created over a decade ago. The higher the number of people and institutions who buy a part of the limited supply of Bitcoin, the higher its value rises. But each Bitcoin is also divided into 100 million sub-units called Satoshis. This enables anyone who has even 10 dollars, to buy and save wealth in the form of Bitcoin, even as its value keeps rising.\n\nGold's high value does not come from its ability to be used to make things. The same is true of Bitcoin. The value of either gold or Bitcoin comes simply from people accepting them as forms of money that everyone knows and agrees are scarce, in a measurable way. People are willing to pay for and trade objects that have a proved, measurable, scarcity.\n\nThis kind of 'hard' money is a polar opposite to the US Dollar which loses value every year because of inflation. The Dollar is printed out of thin air by banks & the US government who give most of it to the rich, who in turn buy stocks & property artificially inflating living & housing costs exponentially. Bitcoin escapes the Dollar’s loss in value.\n\n*Because Banks & Governments Don't Control Bitcoin, People Can Freely Exchange It With Each Other*\n\nProfit, while it is a nice benefit,  is not why Bitcoin is so important. Because it is publicly created and stored with no banks or governments holding it, Bitcoin can be easily and directly transferred from one person to another, securely and immediately, at very low cost, making it a better and more functional form of money than government currencies.
