One such word is “放水 (fàngshuǐ)”.

It has, first, a very literal meaning:

放水 (fàngshuǐ): v. (of a reservoir) draw off; disembogue.

In some rainy seasons, there is too much water in the rivers or rice fields. People will use some tools to “放水 (fàngshuǐ)” for the safety or harvest.

放 (fàng): v. put, release, free, liberate.

水 (shuǐ): n. water.

You can imagine in ancient China this word would have been used a lot because agriculture, the seasons, and the harvest were so important to daily life. Here are some examples of how we use this word with the literal meaning nowadays:

Examples:

Qǐng dǎkāi zhámén fàngshuǐ.

请 打开 闸门 放水。

Please open the gate to drain.

Zhè tiáo hé shénme shíhòu fàngshuǐ?

这 条 河 什么 时候 放水?

When does the river need to be drained?

But we don’t necessarily talk about the seasons, agriculture or the harvest as much now in the 21st century. So how do we use this word nowadays, in a more metaphorical way?

放水 (fàngshuǐ): verb. to deliberately lose a game or competition to an opponent.

People usually use “放水 (fàngshuǐ)” to talk about someone would have been able to win a game or competition, but for some reason or another, deliberately loses the game/competition. Usually, this kind of situation happens because of some secret deal, internal relations between teams, players, coaches, etc. or some special tactical arrangements so that one party is favored over another.

Examples:

Dàjiā dōu zài cāicè shì bú shì huángmǎ gùyì fàngshuǐ shūle zhè chǎng bǐsài.

大家 都 在 猜测 是 不 是 皇马 故意 放水 输了 这 场 比赛。

We are all wondering if Real Madrid deliberately lost the game.

Qǐng nǐ búyào zài bǐsài de shíhòu fàngshuǐ.

请 你 不要 在 比赛 的 时候 放水。

Please don’t deliberately lose in the game.

Learn more about Chinese lessons online

|

| body |

Chinese New Year is coming. The “年终奖 (niánzhōng jiǎng) year-end bonus” has recently become a hot topic in China. At the end of each year, what people most often talk about is the “年终奖 (niánzhōng jiǎng) year-end bonus”. After a year of hard work, getting a “年终奖 (niánzhōng jiǎng) year-end bonus” is both comforting and encouraging to the staff.

In China, some companies distribute “年终奖 (niánzhōng jiǎng)” via cash or through the WeChat red packet. Some companies give shopping vouchers or gifts as a bonus. Lately, some big companies give new cars to their senior staff.

Fun facts about how the year-end bonus began:

Chinese New Year is just around the corner. Falling on February 16th, 2018, It is that time of year for the year-end bonus. So, what is this year-end bonus, or annual year-end bonuses “年终奖 (niánzhōng jiǎng)”, that everyone is talking about? They happen on the last month of the lunar calendar before Chinese New Year. (Chinese New Year sometimes falls in late January, but usually happens in February due to the lunar cycle.)

Chinese and American employees receive different versions of the end-of-year bonus or annual year-end bonuses. For instance, in America, bonuses are tied to performance merits and amounts can vary depending on how the staff member performed during the year and other milestones that have been achieved or in cases where performance was more than expected. However, this bonus is mostly given as a small holiday bonus or gifts. In China, the factory and farm owners give the year-end, or annual year-end bonuses, to make sure that staff who are working in the fields and factories will return after spending time with their families during Chinese New Year. The bonus comes as a reward for their hard work and dedication. Most factory and farm workers live far away from their work and take the train home for the holiday. Chinese factory and farm workers who continue working for their employers will earn an end-of-the-year bonus, or what some companies call the “stay-don’t-leave bonus”. The enticing bonus comes at a time when holiday festivities could make it a prime occasion for workers to switch jobs and career fields. Therefore, workers expect to receive up to double their monthly salary stipulated in their contract to stay on with their employer. The year-end bonus makes each team member aware of their importance.

Chinese words knowledge points:

年终奖 (Niánzhōng jiǎng): year-end bonus, annual bonus.

Break it down:

年终 (Niánzhōng): the end of the year; year-end.

奖 (Niánzhōng jiǎng): encourage; praise; reward; commend.

Examples:

Nǐ jīnnián ná niánzhōng jiǎng le ma?

你 今年 拿 年终 奖 了 吗?

Have you received the year-end bonus this year?

Wǒ měinián dōu néng ná yí wàn kuài de niánzhōng jiǎng.

我 每年 都 能 拿 一万块 的 年终 奖。

I can get 10,000 Yuan as the year-end awards every year.

Quiz:

1. | title | What Is the Most Effective Way to Learn Mandarin Online? |
| body |

1. About Learning Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Mainland China and Taiwan. There are many versions of Chinese spoken throughout China; including Cantonese (spoken in Guangdong province), the Beijing dialect and the Shanghai dialect; but Mandarin Chinese is most common dialect spoken by Chinese people from all areas.

Mandarin Chinese is known as “普通话 (pŭtōnghuà) or the ‘common language’ in Mainland China,” “国语 (guóyŭ) the ‘national language’ in Taiwan” or “华语 (huáyŭ) ‘Chinese language’ in Singapore and Malaysia.” Most of learners of Chinese choose to learn “普通话 (pŭtōnghuà),” and they tend to learn Mandarin Chinese online because they can progress in their Chinese learning very quickly.

2. How to learn Mandarin Online?

Online Chinese classes are unparalleled in their flexibility in scheduling and mobility. Classes with native Chinese teacher from China can be taken anytime and anywhere as long as you have access to the Internet, a webcam and headphones.

Using Skype or MSN, you can hear what the teacher says and how the teacher pronounces a word exactly. Our online Chinese teachers design the lessons according to students’ needs, and students also can arrange lessons that the lessons to fit their schedule.

3. Tips on Four Aspects in Learning Mandarin (Listening, speaking, reading and writing).

As for Listening:

How do I improve my Chinese Listening? This question is often asked by Chinese learners. There are three steps to improve Chinese listening.

Ⅰ. Listen a lot. To improve your listening, you need to listen to native speakers and what they said as much as you can. You can listen to Chinese tapes or Chinese CDs, but students need to get as much natural speed input as they can.

TV or radio news broadcasts, joining local clubs, watching Chinese movies and TV shows are good ways to practice listening.

Ⅱ. React to what you hear: Listening isn’t enough. A student needs to react to what they have just listened to. The reaction allows students confirm that they heard correctly, understood correctly, and can respond appropriately to the situation.

Ⅲ. Repeat: Repeat what you hear. Repetition seems dull and you may feel bored, but the more you repeat a word, the more it will stay in your memory.

As for Speaking:

Communication is quite important in language learning. There are three tips on mastering Chinese speaking.

Ⅰ. Speak daily: Practice makes perfect! You will never be able to speak Chinese perfectly, but you will be able to come pretty close if you take the time to practice every single day.

Ⅱ. Sing Chinese songs: Many people have a natural ability to hear tones in songs that are difficult to hear when spoken. When you practice singing in Chinese you’ll learn the language more quickly, because you will become more accustomed to using Mandarin tones in the songs. After you’ve learned to sing a few Chinese songs, you’ll find that you are able to speak Chinese better.

Ⅲ. Practice with a native speaker: You can find some native Chinese speakers around you. If there aren’t any native Chinese speakers around you, you can find some language partners online or find an online Chinese tutor.

As for Reading:

Read aloud and look at the Pinyin to help you pronounce the words. Underline or highlight the words or phrases that you have difficulty reading. Practice as many times as it takes until you are able to read aloud without any guides.

Reading Chinese means understanding and pronouncing the words by looking at the characters. If you enhance and improve your reading skills in Chinese by practicing you will be able to read the text without the help of Hanyu Pinyin.

As for Writing:

Ⅰ. Learn a new word or a new sentence every day. Over time, you will accumulate a large vocabulary and sentences structures that can help you write Chinese articles easier.

Ⅱ. Read more. The best way to improve your writing is to read a lot and become familiar with Chinese expressions. Go to the library and borrow some journals and essays written by current writers. Read them carefully, and then imitate their style, substituting events from your own life.

Ⅲ. Self-correction. If you just write and ask someone to correct you, you will probably not internalize the learning. Self-correction is necessary. When you begin to realize that something “doesn’t sound right” based on what you have read in books, your writing will begin to improve.

Source: eChineseLearning

|

About Learning Mandarin Chinese
\n
Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Mainland China and Taiwan. There are many versions of Chinese spoken throughout China; including Cantonese (spoken in Guangdong province), the Beijing dialect and the Shanghai dialect; but Mandarin Chinese is most common dialect spoken by Chinese people from all areas.
\n
Mandarin Chinese is known as “普通话 (pŭtōnghuà) or the ‘common language’ in Mainland China,” “国语 (guóyŭ) the ‘national language’ in Taiwan” or “华语 (huáyŭ) ‘Chinese language’ in Singapore and Malaysia.” Most of learners of Chinese choose to learn “普通话 (pŭtōnghuà),” and they tend to learn Mandarin Chinese online because they can progress in their Chinese learning very quickly.
\n
2. How to learn Mandarin Online?
\n
Online Chinese classes are unparalleled in their flexibility in scheduling and mobility. Classes with native Chinese teacher from China can be taken anytime and anywhere as long as you have access to the Internet, a webcam and headphones.
\n
Using Skype or MSN, you can hear what the teacher says and how the teacher pronounces a word exactly. Our online Chinese teachers design the lessons according to students’ needs, and students also can arrange lessons that the lessons to fit their schedule.
\n
3. Tips on Four Aspects in Learning Mandarin (Listening, speaking, reading and writing).
\n
As for Listening:
\n
How do I improve my Chinese Listening? This question is often asked by Chinese learners. There are three steps to improve Chinese listening.
\n
Ⅰ. Listen a lot. To improve your listening, you need to listen to native speakers and what they said as much as you can. You can listen to Chinese tapes or Chinese CDs, but students need to get as much natural speed input as they can.
\n
TV or radio news broadcasts, joining local clubs, watching Chinese movies and TV shows are good ways to practice listening.
\n
Ⅱ. React to what you hear: Listening isn’t enough. A student needs to react to what they have just listened to. The reaction allows students confirm that they heard correctly, understood correctly, and can respond appropriately to the situation.
\n
Ⅲ. Repeat: Repeat what you hear. Repetition seems dull and you may feel bored, but the more you repeat a word, the more it will stay in your memory.
\n
As for Speaking:
\n
Communication is quite important in language learning. There are three tips on mastering Chinese speaking.
\n
Ⅰ. Speak daily: Practice makes perfect! You will never be able to speak Chinese perfectly, but you will be able to come pretty close if you take the time to practice every single day.
\n
\n
Ⅲ. Practice with a native speaker: You can find some native Chinese speakers around you. If there aren’t any native Chinese speakers around you, you can find some language partners online or find an online Chinese tutor.
\n
As for Reading:
\n
Read aloud and look at the Pinyin to help you pronounce the words. Underline or highlight the words or phrases that you have difficulty reading. Practice as many times as it takes until you are able to read aloud without any guides.
\n
Reading Chinese means understanding and pronouncing the words by looking at the characters. If you enhance and improve your reading skills in Chinese by practicing you will be able to read the text without the help of Hanyu Pinyin.
\n
As for Writing:
\n
Ⅰ. Learn a new word or a new sentence every day. Over time, you will accumulate a large vocabulary and sentences structures that can help you write Chinese articles easier.
\n
Ⅱ. Read more. The best way to improve your writing is to read a lot and become familiar with Chinese expressions. Go to the library and borrow some journals and essays written by current writers. Read them carefully, and then imitate their style, substituting events from your own life.
\n
Ⅲ. Self-correction. If you just write and ask someone to correct you, you will probably not internalize the learning. Self-correction is necessary. When you begin to realize that something “doesn’t sound right” based on what you have read in books, your writing will begin to improve.
\n
Source: eChineseLearning
\n
",

| title | Which Chinese Character Would You Use to Sum Up 2017? |
| body |

Each year we are seeing Chinese become more and more popular, all around the world, but especially in Asian countries. As 2017 is done, Asian countries have chosen a Chinese “Character of the Year” that best sums up their dominant life and cultural stories of the past 12 months. Read these and see if you get any inspiration to choose one for your own 2017 story!

1. Country: Malaysia

Chinese Character of the Year: 路 (Lù) Road

The selection of “路 (Lù) Road” not only reflected people’s better understanding of the China-proposed “一带一路 (Yí dài yí lù) Belt and Road” initiative, but also embodied people’s expectations and hopes to lead a better life. The infrastructure development of Malaysia has benefited from the “一带一路 (Yí dài yí lù) Belt and Road” construction, including new mass transit systems and more to aide in the transportation sector of the country. But the choice of this character also refers to the public’s hopes that more opportunities will be gained and a better future will be seen in Malaysia for 2018.

Examples about how to use “路 (Lù)” in daily life:

Nǐ néng gàosù wǒ qù huǒchēzhàn de lù ma?

你 能 告诉 我 去 火车站 的 路 吗?

Can you tell me the way to the railway station?

Wǒmen zǒu le lìng yī tiáo lù.

我们 走 了 另 一 条 路。

We took another road.

What Chinese character came in second for Malaysians? Tiredness!

2. "body": "
\n
Each year we are seeing Chinese become more and more popular, all around the world, but especially in Asian countries. As 2017 is done, Asian countries have chosen a Chinese “Character of the Year” that best sums up their dominant life and cultural stories of the past 12 months. Read these and see if you get any inspiration to choose one for your own 2017 story!
\n
1. Country: Malaysia
\n
Chinese Character of the Year: 路 (Lù) Road\t
\n

\n
\n
Examples about how to use “路 (Lù)” in daily life:
\n
Nǐ néng gàosù wǒ qù huǒchēzhàn de lù ma?
\n
你 能 告诉 我 去 火车站 的 路 吗?
\n
Can you tell me the way to the railway station?
\n

\n
Wǒmen zǒu le lìng yī tiáo lù.
\n
我们 走 了 另 一 条 路。
\n
We took another road.
\n
What Chinese character came in second for Malaysians? | title | What to Never Say to a Chinese Woman: Here Are the 10 Worst Expressions (Part II)! |
| body |

In a previous article, I introduced a popular speaking topic that I explore in my Mandarin Chinese classes with curious students: 10 Expressions You Should Never Say to a Chinese Woman. In Part I, I introduced the first 5 expressions that Chinese women hate to hear, from “多喝热水。(Duō hē rèshuǐ.)” = “Drink more hot water.” to “都是我的错。(Dōu shì wǒ de cuò.)”= “It’s all my fault.” Many Chinese guys don’t even realize how annoying and careless these expressions sound to a Chinese wife or girlfriend.

So, how do we know which expressions are so annoying? These ten expressions were selected by a random survey of female Chinese Internet users. The results were compiled onto a list titled “The Top 10 Chinese Expressions Men Say That Annoy Women the Most.”

And so today we learn expressions #6 to #10. Pay attention, guys!

#6: “随便。(Suíbiàn.) = Do as you please/whatever.”

When a woman gives a man multiple choices for something to do, or for which dish to order off the menu, the most annoying answer from the man is often “随便。(Suíbiàn.) Do as you please/whatever.” It is a bit like saying “I don’t care. Do whatever you want.” Usually, women like to hear an opinion and appreciate some decision-making from their man!

For example:

Nǚ: Nǐ xiǎng yào qù kàn diànyǐng háishì qù guàngjiē?

女:你 想 要 去 看 电影 还是 去 逛街?

Woman: Do you want to go to a movie or go shopping?

Nán: Suíbiàn.

男: 随便.

Man: We can do as you please.

A woman may think “Why can’t he make a choice? I even offered him two specific choices. This should be easy enough, but…”.

#7: “还在吗? (Hái zài ma?) = Are you still online?”

The situation: A woman is chatting online with a man. For a few moments, both sides remain silent in the conversation. When the man asks “还在吗?(Hái zài ma?) Are you still online?” The woman would consider this question a useless sentence, or nonsense. Usually, women don’t like to answer this kind of question. In a relationship between a wife and husband, or a boyfriend and girlfriend, women will feel better if the man can ge straight to the point with meaningful messages.

In China, most people don’t like when people use “在吗?(Zài ma?)” or “还在吗?(Hái zài ma?) Are you still online?” to start a conversation online. Asking this kind of question is a waste of time!

#8: “吃了没? (Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”

Women don’t like it when men ask “吃了没?(Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”. Nearly all chats online begin with men asking “吃了没?(Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”. At this time, women think: “Why he always asking if I have eaten or not whenever I’m online? Does he think I eat 24 hours a day? I’m not a machine!”

#9 “你忙!(Nǐ máng!) Get your things done first/Focus on your busy work first!”

When men talk with women, men often don’t know what to say next. Some men may say “你忙!(Nǐ máng!) Get your things done first/Focus on your busy work first!” Some women may think “this man doesn’t really want to talk with me. If so, he wouldn’t ask me to get my work done before communicating. I’m’ a human, not a workaholic! If he likes me, what he really should want is for me to focus on him and talk more together. Anyway, if I’m busy, I won’t have time to pick up the phone when he calls or reply to his messages.” Can you imagine how the woman feels?

#10: “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.”

When men say “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.” to a woman in a conversation, the woman may feel that the man wants to finish the talk as soon as possible, and cannot wait to say “good night”. Women may feel the man is impatient and doesn’t want to talk with them. “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.” is often used as a farewell expression in a conversation in China, and therefore the woman will feel that you are trying to get out of the conversation due to lack of interest.

Quiz:

1. What is a good way to begin an online conversation with a Chinese woman in the evening:

A. 晚上好!(Wǎnshàng hǎo!)

B. 早点睡! (Zǎo diǎn shuì!)

C. 还在吗? (Hái zài ma?)

See answer

Source: eChineseLearning

|

In a relationship between a wife and husband, or a boyfriend and girlfriend, women will feel better if the man can ge straight to the point with meaningful messages.
\n
In China, most people don’t like when people use “在吗?(Zài ma?)” or “还在吗?(Hái zài ma?) Are you still online?” to start a conversation online. Asking this kind of question is a waste of time!
\n
#8: “吃了没? (Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”\t
\n

\n
Women don’t like it when men ask “吃了没?(Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”. Nearly all chats online begin with men asking “吃了没?(Chī le méi?) Have you eaten yet?”. At this time, women think: “Why he always asking if I have eaten or not whenever I’m online? Does he think I eat 24 hours a day? I’m not a machine!”
\n
#9 “你忙!(Nǐ máng!) Get your things done first/Focus on your busy work first!”\t
\n

\n
When men talk with women, men often don’t know what to say next. Some men may say “你忙!(Nǐ máng!) Get your things done first/Focus on your busy work first!” Some women may think “this man doesn’t really want to talk with me. If so, he wouldn’t ask me to get my work done before communicating. I’m’ a human, not a workaholic! If he likes me, what he really should want is for me to focus on him and talk more together. Anyway, if I’m busy, I won’t have time to pick up the phone when he calls or reply to his messages.” Can you imagine how the woman feels?
\n
#10: “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.”
\n

\n
When men say “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.” to a woman in a conversation, the woman may feel that the man wants to finish the talk as soon as possible, and cannot wait to say “good night”. Women may feel the man is impatient and doesn’t want to talk with them. “早点睡。(Zǎo diǎn shuì.) Sleep early/Go to bed early.” is often used as a farewell expression in a conversation in China, and therefore the woman will feel that you are trying to get out of the conversation due to lack of interest.
\n
Quiz:
\n
1. What is a good way to begin an online conversation with a Chinese woman in the evening:
\n
A. 晚上好!(Wǎnshàng hǎo!)\t
\n
B. 早点睡! (Zǎo diǎn shuì!)\t
\n
C. 还在吗? | title | 4 Things You Must Know Before Doing Business in China |
| body |

Although some of my Mandarin Chinese students sign up for Chinese classes to impress their in-laws, enrich their cultural knowledge or just to exercise their brains, the vast majority of my students become interested in Mandarin Chinese due to its business and career applications. There is probably no other language that will open doors the way that Chinese can. It’s no wonder why so many students are signing on to learn the language today.

Although I am a Chinese teacher, not a business trainer, a topic frequently arises in my classes: How can I do business in China? Why is it so hard to do business with Chinese? What do I need to know about the Chinese people and culture before I undertake this challenge?

I’ve been a part of business projects in both the USA and China. Business culture varies greatly between the two countries. In addition, I have heard stories and followed developments among my foreign students pursuing business ventures here in China. There are many important things to know before getting started in Chinese business culture.

If you are doing business in China, I would highly recommend doing four things to help make your business ventures with Chinese clients run a bit smoother in the future.

1. Understand Chinese Business Etiquette

China has a different culture from that which you are familiar. To the Chinese, we probably also think that there are problems trying to do business with foreign cultures. Business in China, and indeed in most Asian countries, doesn’t work the same way as it does in the West. So if you are going to business here, it is the responsibility of both parties to mutually understand the etiquette of each other. It is tough, but it isn’t impossible. Build Relationships or “关系 Guanxi”

Establishing good “关系 Guanxi” with Chinese partners can contribute to your business success in China. Eat and drink (wine or tea) is one of social engagement features, as well as 送礼 (sònglǐ) Business Gifts. Dining together is a common thing to do when the Chinese are getting together, which provides an opportunity for them not only to enjoy a meal, but also to communicate. Many Chinese people build close relationship though kind of social activities. They can help both sides get more trust and mutual respect.

3. Get Familiar with the Way Chinese People Interact with Others.

This has to do with understanding the way Chinese people interact with others and what they mean by their words, expressions, and actions.

A euphemistic way of speaking: Different from western countries, many Chinese people don’t like talk about the problem directly. They feel it is not polite to point out the problem, but rather infer a problem and allow others to make the same inferences. Chinese people are very modest and they don’t like conflict and confrontation. “以和为贵 (yǐ hé wéi guì) Harmony is precious” is a common belief in traditional Chinese culture which has deeply affected the Chinese and their behavior. For example, if your Chinese is not good, few people will ever say:

“你的中文很差 (Nǐ de zhōngwén hěn chà) Your Chinese is poor.”

Most of time, some Chinese people will prefer to say:

“你的中文还可以更好 (Nǐ de zhōngwén hái kěyǐ gèng hǎo)。”

or

“你的中文还有进步空间 (Nǐ de zhōngwén hái yǒu jìnbù kōngjiān)。”

They both have the same meaning: “Your Chinese can become better.”

For Chinese people, praise is more constructive than criticism. Be careful of this while doing business in China. Always be tactful and careful of which words you choose to use when making constructive criticism.

4. Learn the Language

This one is pretty obvious, but if you have the ability to speak Chinese at an above intermediate level, then you will most likely be able to understand how some things may sound rude in English but when translated into Chinese, the words may be perfectly normal and not at all impolite. It is tough to master any language, but if you are serious about doing business in China then learn their language and make allowances for mistranslations towards those who have learned your language.

Of course, depending on your particular business scenario and situation, you also need professional knowledge in your specific field and some knowledge of the legal framework to protecting yourself. While these business intricacies can’t be summed up in just a few sentences, maybe we can just save that for next time! Comment below if you do want more discussions!

Quiz

1. "body": "
\n

\n
Although some of my Mandarin Chinese students sign up for Chinese classes to impress their in-laws, enrich their cultural knowledge or just to exercise their brains, the vast majority of my students become interested in Mandarin Chinese due to its business and career applications. There is probably no other language that will open doors the way that Chinese can. It’s no wonder why so many students are signing on to learn the language today.
\n
Although I am a Chinese teacher, not a business trainer, a topic frequently arises in my classes: How can I do business in China? Why is it so hard to do business with Chinese? What do I need to know about the Chinese people and culture before I undertake this challenge?
\n
I’ve been a part of business projects in both the USA and China. Business culture varies greatly between the two countries. In addition, I have heard stories and followed developments among my foreign students pursuing business ventures here in China. There are many important things to know before getting started in Chinese business culture.
\n
If you are doing business in China, I would highly recommend doing four things to help make your business ventures with Chinese clients run a bit smoother in the future.
\n
1. Understand Chinese Business Etiquette
\n

\n
China has a different culture from that which you are familiar. To the Chinese, we probably also think that there are problems trying to do business with foreign cultures. Business in China, and indeed in most Asian countries, doesn’t work the same way as it does in the West. So if you are going to business here, it is the responsibility of both parties to mutually understand the etiquette of each other. It is tough, but it isn’t impossible. Here are some reading materials on Chinese business etiquette.
