Cada anomalía tiene una causa que no siempre es cosmética si no que puede ser el reflejo de disfunciones orgánicas que acaban por mostrar los síntomas en el estado y el color de las uñas, si una uña no crece  puede que sea motivado por falta de vitaminas y calcio que favorecen al crecimiento. Como la del cabello, pertenece a un grupo de tejidos protectores llamados faneras, compuestos esencialmente de queratina, materia dura y muy rica en proteínas y azufre. El propósito de las uñas es únicamente el de proteger las terminaciones de los dedos de las manos y de los pies. Las uñas crecen en los pliegues que se forman en la punta y dorso  de los dedos. Las cutículas no son más que prolongación de la piel que sujeta firmemente una a medida que va creciendo.\n\nEstructura de la uña:\nLa uña está formada por el cuerpo, con una cara superficial donde vemos la lúnula y una cara profunda en la que se aprecian los surcos o canales longitudinales, mediante los que la una se ancla al lecho. La estructura de las células  de la matriz cambia en la lúnula para transformarse en una matriz ungueal donde las células se diferencian y es el punto donde se produce el crecimiento de la uña.\nLecho de la uña\nContiene los surcos o canales longitudinales mediante los cuales la cara profunda  de la uña se adhiere de forma muy sólida y de manera uniforme al lecho de la uña. En los adultos, el lecho ungular apenas participa en la producción de la producción de la placa de la uña, pero también desempeñan un papel muy importante en la nutrición  de la placa de la uña. Es por el lecho ungular por donde llega la vascularización o riego sanguíneo.\nLúnula o media luna de la uña \nEs la parte visible de la matriz, ya que sobresale formando una luna de color a los motivos que dan ese color blanco a la lúnula se argumenta el aumento de la actividad mitótica de las células (su regeneración rápida y abundante), también puede ser debido al aumento de la queratina en la que se refleja la luz y da ese color blanquecino, mientras que otros estudiosos aseguran que se debe al hecho de que al ser parte más joven de la uña se muestra con ese color blanco.\nHiponiquio (hyponychium)\nEs la piel que se forma en la yema del dedo y que permanece completamente escondida debajo del borde  libre de la uña.  Esta piel es más espesa y gruesa como resultado del material corneo producido Hiponiquio que se acumula debajo del extremo de la uña. Constituye un sello impermeable que protege el lecho ungular de las infecciones.\nEponiquio\nPosee una particular forma de lámina que recubre la totalidad de la superficie de la placa, contribuyendo de este modo a la formación de la capa cornea. A partir del sétimo mes de gestación, esta lámina se hace más delgada y se mantiene solo como una laminilla cornea que recubre la región más próxima a la lúnula. Por la cara inferior se une a la capa dorsal de la placa de la uña.\nPlaca ungular de la uña\nEs la parte más importante por el tema que nos ocupa en lo que respecta a la estética de la uña. Encima de esta placa o superficie de la uña es donde se realizan los tratamientos específicos, tanto de salud, en cuanto a anomalías se refiere como a tratamientos de belleza en cuanto a esculpidos de uña, donde se modela la porcelana o la fibra de vidrio y  también la superficie que se trabaja con esmaltes y otros productos cosméticos específicos. Su estructura se forma con un extracto corneo, elaborado por numerosas laminillas que se construyen por varias capas de células corneas de color rosado y semitransparente, con un  grosor que aumenta a medida que la uña se acerca al borde libre de la uña. En las personas adultas la uña está constituida por tres capas superpuestas. Una capa superficial y una más profunda, ambas superpuestas. Una capa superficial y una más profunda, ambas de queratina blanda y entre las que se constituye una capa intermedia de queratina dura. El principal componente químico que conforma la placa de la uña de una persona adulta sana es la queratina, una sustancia que genera el organismo dentro del  grupo de las escleroproteínas.  A su vez está formada por las siguientes sustancias:\nAminoácidos: son los que componen el  grupo de las lisinas, metionina, cistina, tiroxina, triptófano o fenbilalanina.\nAgua: se ha probado una variación importante del porcentaje de agua que compone una uña según la estación del año, lo que se debe básicamente a la diversidad en la humedad ambiental  del clima. también en las personas de avanzada edad el contenido de agua en  la uña va disminuyendo, lo que explica la deshidratación propia que sufre el organismo con el paso de los años.\nLípidos: especialmente el colesterol, es el responsable de mantener la normalidad de la cohesión interlaminar y la elasticidad de la uña. En aquellos casos que existe una carencia de colesterol natural, las uñas pierden brillo, se vuelven quebradizas y frágiles, las células corneas de la placa se fragmentan y aparecen sueltas, lo que se evidencia por un deshojamiento anormal de la uña.\nMinerales: contiene fósforo, sílice, plomo, plata, calcio, hierro, cobre, zinc y magnesio. Todos estos minerales son necesarios en la dieta diaria para evitar sus carencias, ya que en tal caso las uñas se debilitan y pueden llegar a mostrarse quebradizas. \nCrecimiento de las Uñas\nLa placa de la uña crece continua y uniformemente en todos sus puntos, siendo empujada desde la matriz. La velocidad media de crecimiento se sitúa alrededor de 0,1 mm, al día. Cuando se habla de tiempo de migración de  una uña es cuando corresponde al tiempo que se llega desde la lúnula hasta el borde libre de la uña. Este crecimiento completo tarda unos 130 días, alrededor de 4 meses y medio. La regeneración completa de una uña exige más tiempo porque contempla la formación completa, incluyendo el tiempo que crece pero que permanece oculta a la vista en el eponiquio. Se calculan unos 170 días necesarios para mostrar una uña nueva o renovada, lo que suele ser alrededor del medio año.  La velocidad del crecimiento de una uña depende de circunstancias no solo individuales, sino también de algunas muy determinantes como el sexo, de la edad, de la nutrición e incluso de la actividad que sufren las extremidades, así como de las variaciones del riego sanguíneo.\nUna persona zurda suele ver cómo crecen con más rapidez las uñas de su mano izquierda que la de la derecha. Se a podido comprobar que el crecimiento de la uña es más veloz durante el día que por la noche, más por la mañana que por la tarde, más en épocas calurosas que durante las temporadas de frió, debido básicamente a las variaciones de las condiciones periféricas, vasculares y nutritivas.   La nutrición ejerce una influencia muy especial sobre el ritmo de crecimiento e incluso en la velocidad en que crece la uña.  \nUna dieta con carencias de aporte calórico o baja en proteínas y falta de hierro, conllevara un retraso en el crecimiento de la uña.\nLas variaciones más importantes en el crecimiento de las uñas se dan con diferentes edades. Durante la infancia y en edades avanzadas, las uñas crecen muy lentamente.                                              \nEn los niños todavía no están todas las funciones plenamente desarrolladas en la piel y hasta la pubertad y adolescencia no se llega al total y completo funcionamiento de todas las actividades, tanto si son celulares como cutáneas.   \nEn la vejez se reduce el contenido de agua  en los tejidos, bajan los componentes de la queratina y disminuye la red vascular con la consecuente deficiencia en la regularización, lo que lleva a alteraciones en la superficie de la placa de la uña, con presencia de estrías longitudinales, reducción del grosor de la placa de la uña, modificación del color característico rosado o transparente, haciéndose más gris y opaca.\n\nFeliz noche Dios los Bendiga!",
