      "body": "OhMyGeorge, a Forex trading app, has gained a tremendous amount of traction since it launched back in 2016.  With almost 200,000 downloads worldwide it has helped a lot of new traders navigate the complex financial markets.  The app is the brain child of Lucien Tavano, a developer from Paris, France.  When Lucien was entering the Financial markets for the first time, he could not find a trading related app that fit what he was looking for.  Lucien was in search of a trading platform that was easy to learn on and would provide him with a pleasant trading experience.  He didn’t care about the ability to select from hundreds of Forex trading pairs or indicators, or the fastest execution.  He just wanted to first learn the basics and then advance from there, but that wasn’t an option.  As he puts it, “I wanted to learn how to drive, and the only cars available to learn on were formula one race cars.”  \n\nSo, he did what any tech-savvy person would do, he built the trading platform himself (with the help of some amazing friends).  He wanted a platform that was simple enough that it allowed him to experience Forex trading with just a couple finger taps on the screen, safe enough that he could trade with real money when he was ready, and smart enough that as his trading knowledge increased it would always meet his needs.  And lastly, a platform that was fun to learn on, because all the traditional platforms at the time felt serious and had a pretentious feel.\n\nSince the initial launch of the app it has evolved into a full gamification trading platform where new traders learn to trade in an easy and fun environment.  The feedback from their early users taught them that some Forex concepts are difficult to understand. The “spread” for example is one of those trading concepts that can be difficult for beginner Forex traders to understand.  So, OhMyGeorge took that concept out for new users of the app and only re-introduces it later on when the trader becomes more knowledgeable.  This type of feedback led OhMyGeorge to build a gamification system where users earn experience points in order to level up and unlock new features, such as financial instruments and charting tools.  \n\nProbably one of the most complex concepts for a new trader to grasp is proper risk management.  One of OhMyGeorge’s tag lines is “No Math”.  Because calculating risk and deciding where to place stop losses and take profits is not an easy concept for new traders to grasp, the OhMyGeorge app handles all the calculations.  For instance, to open a new position, users only have to select how much they want to risk in dollar terms, I.E. $10 per trade.  The app then automatically selects the trade size, the leverage, and sets the stop loss.  The idea is to remove most of the technical considerations for beginner traders so that they can purely focus on managing their emotions and risk.  One of Lucien’s favorite quotes that sums this sentiment up perfectly is from Benjamin Graham.  It reads, “Investing isn’t about beating others at their game, it’s about controlling yourself at your own game.”\n\nWith the new ESMA rule, which requires European brokers to display client profitability directly on their website apps like this have grown in popularity.  All European brokers are trying to reduce the number of clients that lose money, with some brokers using low numbers for marketing purposes.       "title": "MT4 vs. cTrader Platform - Which One is Better?",

Several estimates suggest that between 70-80% of all retail Forex traders use this trading platform. This is due in large part due to its ease of use, continual software improvements that have helped improve the overall functionality over the years and customization, which allows traders to easily create their own custom indicators and algorithms. Even though MT4 is over 12 years old, and Metaquotes has released its newest trading platform, MT5, many FX traders prefer sticking with what is familiar.\n\nOver the years, there have been many rivals to MT4, most notably the cTrader platform, which has proven to be a formidable opponent. The cTrader platform was launched in 2011 by Spotware and has gained a considerable market share. There are many reasons for this and in this article, we explore the similarities and key differentiators between these two leading Forex trading platforms.\n\nMarket Depth\n\nA feature that increasingly sought after by retail Forex traders is Market Depth or Depth of Market.  Market Depth provides traders with key information regarding the quantity of buy and sell quotes at different price levels.  In on-exchange markets, Market Depth is available on any Level II screen, where all traders’ bids and offers are displayed for market participants to see.  In an over-the-counter market like Forex, Market Depth is not something readily available as there is no centralized exchange where all orders are sent.  For Forex traders, however, this information can be useful, especially for traders trading in large size.\n\nMarket Depth on MT4\n\nWhen the MT4 platform was initially released it did not contain a Market Depth feature.  Traders trading on this platform only saw the best bid/offer price, but no information regarding the quantity available at that price was available.  It was only after years of requests did Metaquotes finally upgrade their platform to include Market Depth.  Even then, however, most brokers did not fully implement the tool into their platform because it requires third party plugins to allow data to be displayed.  This essentially renders the Market Depth feature on the MT4 platform useless.  An example of how this tool appears on the MT4 platform can see been below.\n\n\nMarket Depth on cTrader\n\ncTrader was fortunate to enter the Forex platform provider space much later than MT4.  As a result they understood the demand that existed for a Market Depth, and they developed a highly sophisticated Market Depth tool that is at the core of the trading platform.  In fact, the cTrader platform shows a full depth of bids and offers and the available quantities at each price.  Additionally, traders have the option of doing a VWAP (volume weighted average price) view, which will show the average price for a given trade size, which can be very useful if a trader trades in large size.\n\nOverall, when it comes to Market Depth, cTrader is the better, more functional option.  The drawback is that not nearly as many Forex brokers offer cTrader as a platform option.  An example of how this tool appears on the cTrader platform can see been below.\n\n\nMQL4 vs. cAlgo\n\nOne of the main reasons the MT4 platform has experienced such a long reign as the leading Forex platform is due to the ease with which traders can custom program their own indicators and algorithms via the MQL4 coding language and their built-in strategy tester.  Any competitors to MT4 that wanted to attract algorithmic traders would need to have to offer an equally accessible and easy to use customer programming suite.  Spotware did this when building the cTrader platform.\n\nMT4 – Custom Indicators and Expert Advisors\n\nMT4 coined the term Expert Advisor (EA), which simply means automated trading algorithms.  There has been an entire subindustry that has sprouted up around EAs, with programmers building, licensing/selling them through various websites and Metaquotes own ecommerce market.  MT4 scripts are written in the MQL4 language, which is unique to MT4 and borrows heavily from the C family of programming languages, which allows for advanced programs to be built.\n\nThe MQL4 language is also considered by many to be very user friendly, and there are even tools that allow traders to build EAs without knowing any computer programming languages.  In addition, there are a host of different MQL4 web forums to answer questions and also firms who will build EAs for traders in exchange for a fee.  Due to these items and the marketplaces where people buy and sell their indicators and EAs, MT4 has thrived.\n\ncTader – Custom Indicators and Algorithms\n\nSpotware anticipated the interest in developing custom indicators and algorithms when it developed the cTrader platform, as it incorporated its own ways for traders to develop and test custom indicators and algorithms.  Like the Market Depth feature, Spotware made it a focal point of the cTrader platform.  cTrader supports algorithmic and automated trading via cAlgo.  cAlgo utilizes C# computer programming language as its language of choice, which is a popular object-oriented programming language with a large number of dedicated programmers around the world.  While this programming language is extremely powerful and allows for high customization, it can be difficult for people who do not understand programming.  Additionally, there are not many tools available to assist traders in developing their own automated strategies.  This means that a lot of traders have to either purchase someone else’s automated strategy or hire someone to code it for them.\n\nOne website that has sprouted up is 2calgo.com.  This website allows someone with an MT4 Expert Advisor to upload their script and it will automatically convert the program to work with cTrader.  This tool has proven to be a very useful tool for cTrader to gain in popularity, though Forest Park FX has not tested how well it actually works.\n\nOverall, we would give MT4 an edge over cTrader when it comes to automation given the ease of use in developing EAs, the number that are available for purchase, and the massive community formed around the MQL4 programming language make it the better solution for automated trading.\n\nCharting\n\nMT4 Charting\n\nA key feature to the MT4 platform is its charting.  The platform revolutionized the trading industry by giving traders the ability to trade directly from the charts, which was a feature not previously available.  At the time Metaquotes’ release of MT4, the charting features were highly sophisticated with an extensive range of professional tools and indicators that came standard.  Although, some of these features are starting to become outdated, two of which are the inability to change the server time on the charts and the timeframes with which you can view pricing data.\n\nThe MT4 platform only comes with 9 timeframe options:  1 minute, 5 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, 60 minute, 4 hour, daily, and weekly.  As trading has advanced, many traders have requested custom timeframes.  Unfortunately, the MT4 platform is not able to support them.  With MT5, however, Metaquotes has expanded the number of timeframes to 21.\n\nAnother feature that a lot of traders love about the MT4 platform is the ability to load an unlimited number of charts.  And with the prevalence of EAs with MT4, it is not unheard of for traders to be running 30-40 charts at a time.\n\ncTrader Charting\n\nAgain, Spotware had the district advantage of coming into the game after Metaquotes.  As with other features, they took note of the features traders liked and the ones they disliked.\n\nLike MT4, cTrader allows you to have unlimited charts.  But, cTrader took it one step further and allows you to export those charts out of the platform.  One of the negatives about MT4 is that even though you can have unlimited charts, those charts have to remain in the MT4 terminal, thus eliminating the amount you can have visible at a time.  Spotware saw this as shortcoming of the MT4 platform and capitalized by allowing traders to export or pop the charts out of the platform and put them anywhere they want on their computer monitors.\n\nAnother feature that cTrader offers is one click trading feature that allows traders to trade directly from the charts.  MT4 gives traders basic buy and sell functionality in their one click trading tool, where you only have the options to select your trade size and then execute market orders.  cTrader, however, expanded upon this feature by allowing traders to not only to execute market orders, but also set pending orders, look at the overall market sentiment, view the current spread, and several other additional features that MT4 does not offer.  A comparison of the one click trading options offered by cTrader and MT4, respectively, can be seen below.\n\nFor these reasons set forth above, we give cTrader the edge over MT4 when it comes to charting features and functionality.\n\nBrokerage Availability\n\nThe final topic we will discuss between the two platforms is availability across brokerage firms.  This category hands down goes to MetaTrader 4.  Almost every single Forex broker offers the MT4 platform, making it easy for traders to switch between brokers without the need to change platforms.  While the cTrader platform has been popular among traders, it has not gained as much traction with brokers.  While there are in excess of 1,000 MT4 brokers, there are only a dozen or so brokers that offer cTrader, of which only several are regulated and reputable.  So, if you are keen on using the cTrader platform you are limited in the number of brokers that you can use.\n\nThat wraps up our comparison between the Metatrader 4 and cTrader platforms. The course focuses on Fundamental Analysis and trading news events.  In our minds this was a refreshing change of pace as it seems most Forex and CFD educators focus on Technical Analysis.       "title": "Which is better: Manual or Automated trading?",
      "body": "![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmeuEzm9e8HsHFkZ6MoTbTgsMqt9Rebai5VZJPqyR6p5B2/image.png)\n\nPractically every trader faces a situation where they must think about whether they want to be a manual discretionary trader, go fully black box automated trading, or a grey box combination of both.  The trust is that there is not direct clear answer, as both styles have proven to work effectively overtime for many traders, and both have their own pros and cons.  Below we discuss some of the pros and cons of manually trading vs. automated trading.\n​\nManual trading\n\nPros\n​\n​​Full control over your transactions. You can mange your orders in real time, if you feel the market is doing something out of the ordinary and you don’t have to wait until an automated system updates your trade, you can do it in real time. \n \nYou are much more engaged in the markets when trading manually.  This allows you to get more familiar with trading, the markets, and overall allows you to become a better trader.  There is a reason that many large prop firms in the world pair great traders with computer programmers.  The fact is most computer programs don’t understand markets and they need the experienced traders who have traded manually for years to explain the markets to them to improve their automated strategies.\n \nManual traders tend to annualize the markets more closely.\n \nWhen manually trading you can factor Fundamental analysis into your decision making.  Most automated strategies cannot handle Fundamental tools, they strictly rely on Technicals.  This can cause some strategies to lose unnecessary money.  By way of example, let’s say Non-Farm Payroll was just released and the figures are very bearish for EURUSD.  You are currently in a long position with a stop 100 pips away at a moving average.  If you are manually trading, you can simply exit this trade and save yourself 100 pips.  If your system is fully automated though you must wait until the markets go down 100 pips and stop you out, effectively costing you 100 pips for no real apparent reason. \n\nCons\n \nManually trading requires a lot of market knowledge, which can take years to master.  Trading is like any other profession; the vast majority of people are not going to be experts overnight.  They must spend the time to analyze the markets, test different strategies to see what works for them, and spend screen time honing their skills.\n \nWhen manually trading you must always be in front of your screens, whether it is on a computer, tablet, or phone, you must be in front of the screen. Because let’s remember there is no automated system that is going to place the trade for you.  You must manually enter and exit every trade, which requires you to be present.\n \nEmotions and psychology are a critical component to trading manually.  Many traders have large mood swings when they are making or losing a lot of money.  This can work in your favor, but often it works against manual traders.  It is best to be as unemotional as possible when trading manually.\n \nA wrong attitude to trading can lead to great losses. It’s not gambling, but a serious business.  Unfortunately for many new traders though they treat it like gambling and as a result lose their money.  It is best for new traders to start trading using a demo account.  Demo accounts will allow a trader to learn the platform and markets without risking capital.\n\n\n​Automated trading\n\n​Pros\n \nOne of the single greatest advantages of using an automated system vs. manually trading is the fact robots don’t have emotions.  There are no scared emotions to keep you out of a trade or exit a trade early, there is no emotional greed to make you believe you can take more profit then when is available in the market, and there is no hope emotion that doesn’t allow you to exit a losing trade in the hope that is going back into your favor.  Your automated strategy is going to perform exactly how you programmed it to perform when there was no emotion involved.\n \nYou are not required to be around your computer 24/7.  Once you have built your robot and installed it on your trading platform the robot can simply run without your presence.  This frees up your time to focus on other projects or develop additional automated strategies.\n \nPending a glitch, automated strategies always perform exactly how the predetermined tactics were setup.\n \nAutomated strategies can react to market news much faster then a human.  There is a reason why the vast majority of high frequency trading is done via an algorithm.  These algorithms are often co-located next to the liquidity provider or exchange and can execute orders in milliseconds.  A human typically cannot take in the data and react manually for several seconds.  This can allow automated strategies to get in at better prices in the market.\n \nCons\n \nTechnical analysis is the main resource of most automated strategies. Most automated strategies traders use cannot handle fundamental news.  They purely look at prices and chart patterns to make their trading decisions.\n \nThere is not much flexibility. One robot works with one strategy only.  If you want to run multiple automated programs you must open multiple accounts.  This requires more administrative work on your end as you need to move money around between different accounts as strategies either make or lose money.\n \nIn the beginning automated strategies require a lot of focus and attention.  Effectively you are giving control of your account over to something that you or someone else developed.  It is important that you monitor the activity early on to make sure that it is performing exactly as it was designed to perform. Otherwise you risk your account blowing out!\n \nHaving high speed internet connections and computers are paramount to most automated strategies being profitable.  Often times traders will purchase a VPS (virtual private server) and install their robot on that.  This allows them to be co-located to their liquidity provider, have a fast and stable internet connection, and reduce latency of trade execution.\n \nThere are a host of scammers selling out of the box automated strategies online.  This can lead many new traders to purchasing one without fully understanding what they are doing.  As mentioned above you are effectively giving control of your account to the system. So not only do you risk losing what you paid for the robot, but you also risk losing your entire account.  By way of example if you pay $100 for the robot and have an account of $1000, you risk losing $1100 by using the software.  For this reason it is important to fully do your research before ever purchasing an automated system.\n \nThese are just some of the pros and cons of trading manually vs. automated.  It is important for traders to find what works best for them.  Just like not every forex broker is the same, neither is every trade.  Each trader is going to have a unique skill set.  These variable skill sets mean that while one trader might be better suited for manually trading, another trader might be better suited for automated trading.  The key here is that you should do your own research and practice in a demo account if you are trying something new.",

But, I tend to agree, we need something to help shake up these markets from the their current sideways trend.
