So if you have a girl or woman by your side make her know this as frequently as possible that ***she is a queen and deserves to or adored***. \n\n> Well from now on I’ll be making exciting post about what I learnt in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as initially promised. My first post would be on **“Abortion and Safe abortion care.”**\n\n###### Ps: This post would be divided into 2 series. 1st series would be on Abortion and what it means.  2nd series would be on Safe abortion and care.\n\n### <center>HERE WE GO</center>\n\n#### Introduction:\nMany pregnancies are lost in early weeks than at any other stage of gestation. Though early pregnancy losses are often considered to be less important than the loss of the baby in later pregnancy, the loss of a wanted pregnancy is always distressing to the mother irrespective of the timing. This is particularly true in recurrent *abortions*\nABORTION is one of the complications of early pregnancy and can either be spontaneous or induced. It is defined as “the termination of pregnancy before the period of fetal viability; usually taken in our environment to be the 28th week of gestation.\nThe World Health Organization (WHO) defined it as “pregnancy termination prior to 24 weeks gestation or the expulsion or extraction from its mother of a fetus weighing less than 500gm.\n\n#### Why is Abortion or any relevance?\nAbortion is really important because the rate of  sexual activity amongst youngsters have risen to a significant high and with that comes an increased rate of unwanted/unplanned pregnancy leading further to an increase in the numbers of abortions worldwide \nWHO estimates that about 46 million cases of abortions occur annually.  This helps to buttress my point. \nThe subject matter is of high value because amongst this rising numbers of abortions cases estimated by WHO, 90-95% occurs in developing countries and more than 80% of these are unsafe. ( Based in the survey conducted by WHO)\n\n```\nThe aim of this post is to inform my readers about abortion and what it entails as well as state the various risk associated with abortion while also advising on the need to prevent its occurrence.\n\n```\n\n\n### <center>Let’s continue.🙂</center>\n\n#### Clinical Variations of Abortions \n* ***Threatened abortions*** \nA threatened abortion is defined as virginal bleeding that occurs in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy (usually the first trimester). The bleeding sometimes is accompanied abdominal cramps. It is in most cases thought to be implantation bleed. The Characteristic finding is that the Cervical os is closed.\n\n* ***Inevitable abortions***\nThis is an early pregnancy with vaginal bleeding and dilatation of the cervix accompanied by effacement. There is usual painful uterine contractions. The Characteristic finding is that the Cervical os is opened!\n\n* ***Incomplete abortions***\nThis  is a pregnancy that is associated with vaginal bleeding, dilatation of the cervical canal, and incomplete passage of products of conception including membranes and placenta. Abdominal cramps are usually present and bleeding is generally persistent and is often severe.\n\n* ***Complete abortions***\nThis is a type of abortion in which all the products of conception have been expelled and the cervical is is closed.  Uterine contractions and pain ceases.\n\n* ***Missed abortions***\nThis occurs when the fetus dies but the gestational sac is retained in the uterus for several weeks or months. There is disappearance of symptoms of pregnancy \n\n* ***Septic abortions***\nThis defined as an infection of the placenta and fetus of a previable pregnancy. The commonest infecting organisms are Staphylococcus Aureus, Coliforms, Bacteriodes, Clostridium welchii. Infections may spread to nearby structures like the uterus , pelvis causing generalized peritonitis, pelvic cellulitis and the rest. It is usually associated with fever, offensive Vaginal discharge, Pelvic and abdominal pain\n\n* ***Habitual abortions***\nThis is a term given to any case in which there has been three or  more consecutive a spontaneous miscarriages. It is found very commonly in habitual/intentional aborters.\n\n\n```\nPs: I’ve intentionally left out induced abortion form the list of clinical variation of abortions since it’s the focus of this post.\n\n```\n\n\n### <center>Moving on</center>\n\n#### INDUCED ABORTIONS \nThis is defined as deliberate steps taken to end or terminate a pregnancy before the period of fetal viability. Usually 20 weeks for WHO, 24 weeks for America and 28 weeks for Nigeria. When properly done, induced abortion is one of the safest procedures in medicine, but unsafe induced abortion is a major cause of maternal mortality, especially in the developing countries like my own, Nigeria. \n\n> This procedure can be through;\n- intake of drugs to terminate the pregnancy ( or,\n- Surgical procedures. \n\n**COMPLICATIONS OF UNSAFE ABORTIONS.**\n- Consistent bleeding \n- Infection\n- Uterine peforations\n- Damage of genital tracts and internal organs\n- Incomplete abortions \n\n***More on this would be on my next post.***\n\n### CONCLUSION\nAbortion is a clinical procedure that should not be done unless very necessary. As such it is advised that careful family planning as well as preconception care be carried out before a pregnancy occurs between two partners. I mean I’ve been eager to resume normal classes after being away from school activities for almost a year due to the lockdown caused by COVID-19. What delight it was for me when I heard school was resuming in a months time at the start of the new year. I was beginning to forget what it was like being a student. \nFast forward to my first day in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.\n###### Am pretty sure your well aware am a medical student🤔. If your not am sorry. \n\n#### OKAY QUICK INTRODUCTION...\n> Hi I’m Ibemorah Chubby. Am currently a 500 level medical Student at the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.\n\nSince we are now acquainted let’s continue....\nI got up really early by 5pm to prepare for my First day with the department of Obtestrics and Gynecology. This was a very unusual time for me to get up as I’m always up an hour later (6am). But today I had to be up earlier not because I was eager or anxious to be in class but because I had to since the tales concerning this department from my predecessors was really scary. They painted them as Monsters of Jurassic park out to get you the moment you flop. First period was slated for 7:30am but by 7am I was seated in the class and waiting for the retinue of doctors and consultants accompanying the professors to come address us as first timers in the department. Surprisingly my colleagues felt the same fear and we were all seated by 7am. \nOur fear actually turned out to Favour us as a class. We had back-to-back lectures over the course of 3hrs (each lasting a period of 1hr). The last class was longer eating into our break time. Our 1hr break time was shortened to 15mins. \n\nOh the way I sprinted out of the class just to get to the Cateen, 10 minutes-walk away from my class to get food and sprinted back you’ll think I was running from an armed bandit. Luckily I made it forth and back in 15 phew! 😅. You’ll be surprised at my action but my predecessors and the coordinators of this department made it clear that there was zero tolerance for lateness as well as absence to lectures.  Next up we had another 5-hourly lectures back-to-back. I came out of this class so exhausted. I really did not want to go over that again the next day but what can I do?\nIt’s what I signed up for and I have to keep up with this pattern for the next 2months. I really pray I survive.😅\n\n**So there you have it, My first day at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology**",

I also love to learn new things and push myself to achieve great things. Oh! how could I miss this one out. I’m a foodie!!!! I love food. All manner of delicacies. So long as it looks good, smells good and tastes good😊😋.
