This video probably went viral after someone posted it on Reddit (r/Games) community, after which it got more than 2m views.</p> <p>Well, I watched the video after being shared by one of my friends who picked it up from Reddit. He missed a few points and started making overstatements.</p> <h3><strong>So, What was wrong with the video?</strong></h3> <p>Well, before I jump on the biasedness of the video, let me point out some mistakes in the video.</p> <p>In the video, he said, “<em>Publishers buy a lot of installs for their games to boost them on the app stores which is not allowed by the Play Store or App Store but they somehow get away with it.</em>” Well, this statement can’t be any more inaccurate.</p> <p>Google and Apple have their own ad systems in place specifically to promote apps and games (Google UAC and Apple Search Ads). Now, if this is against their store guidelines, why would they even develop these tools? Also, promoting my product (app/game) via paid advertising doesn’t seem to be unethical at all.</p> <p>I think he read something wrong here. The app store guidelines state “<em>If we find that you have attempted to manipulate reviews, inflate your chart rankings with paid, incentivized, filtered, or fake feedback….</em>”. Well, they are not talking about paid ads here buddy. They are talking about the paid feedbacks (reviews) and they later talk about the “incentivized” downloads.</p> <p>So, firstly, promoting an app on platforms like Facebook, Google is not at all against the guidelines. Secondly, this does not directly help in boosting the games in rankings at these app stores.</p> <p>He also mentioned in the video that most of the games are tagged as “<em>Single-Player” but people don’t notice it.</em> Adding to it, “<em>There are rules against false advertising on the app store and it requires correct categorization of games on them</em>”.</p> <p>Well, firstly, these tags are <strong>not entered</strong> by the developer (or publisher). They are automatically picked up by Google based on the reviews, description, category, etc.</p> <p>There is an option for the developer to enter <strong>tags</strong>, but these tags are for google only to let them know about the content and functionality. There are very limited options available and these necessarily <strong>do not show up</strong> on the play store page.</p> <p><img src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/800/1*YcQ226y6rtLU20QCkMBMhQ.png"/></p> <p>So, if a game doesn't have a single-player tag on it, it’s not that the developer is trying to trick the players. Also, the categories are limited as well.</p> <p>So, the only place left for the developer (or publisher) to make everything transparent is to mention that the game has bots (and is fake multiplayer) is the description (which by the way less than <a href="https://asostack.com/why-7-seconds-could-make-or-break-your-mobile-app-f41000fb2a17">5% people read</a>).</p> <p>Now, why do these developers (or publishers) <strong>do not mention</strong> that this is a fake multiplayer game? I would recommend you to read the full article, but if you don’t want to, well, here are the key things to know:</p> <ol><li>Hyper casual games are very simple and minimalistic casual games.</li><li>Hyper casual games are generally free to play and have a very short lifetime.</li><li>These games are made for everyone and not just for gamers.</li><li>These are focussed on the core gameplay and how addictive and satisfying the game can be.</li><li>These games are designed to be played while watching TV or Netflix, traveling on a train or a metro, or even while sitting idle.</li></ol> <p>So, these games were never made to compete with big multiplayer games. A hit hyper-casual game's average playtime per user is only 10–12 minutes. So, the main reason why these games exist is that <strong>there exist people who don’t like to play games</strong>. That’s why they are not multiplayer. </strong>Now, even if they were multiplayer, you’re clearly competing with random people. Why do you care to beat them? You can not interact with them, neither can you share your real face to them. It’s just the satisfaction you get from beating them that makes you play the game more and more.</p> <p>Hence, if it really doesn’t matter who you are competing with, why make it a laggy experience for you? If “winning” is the only thing that gives you a satisfying feeling, then why not focus just on it? These games are hence designed to “<strong>make you feel</strong>” that you’re competing with people and at the same time, you are able to enjoy a lag-free experience and can play even when the internet is unstable. It also helps the developer to make the game less competitive by giving the player an extra edge over bots.</p> <p>That’s why you keep on winning at these games. Because they are not designed to be competitive, instead, for you to win and feel good. So, if you are playing these hyper-casual games to beat random people, you’re playing the wrong games!</p> <p>Now, this article is, of course, biased towards .io games because this article was written to counter the video (which is against the .io games). Hence, I have only discussed the things that should not be mixed up and why fake multiplayer is not as bad as it appeared in the video (and comments).</p> <p>But, I do not defend any publisher. I am aware that some publishers (not all) advertise their games as if it is a real multiplayer. But, the guy started messing things up when half of the video was over. And, when I completed watching the video, I felt the video was biased. If you've got an amazing idea with great potential, you've just cleared one step and there's still a long way to go. Raising investment for your startup is one of the key steps you take in this journey, but most of the people fail to clear this step. Is this because of lack of research on the idea? Or, lack of research on the competition? Well, whatever the reason may be, one thing is common in all the startups that fail to get investment, and that is "poor pitch". Your idea and the potential it carries is important, but what's more important is the way you present it. And the thing that most of the entrepreneurs do not understand easily is what an investor is looking for. Most of the entrepreneurs make their pitch deck explaining their idea, breakthrough technology involved and the revenue model. Most of the slides in their pitch desk explain the idea and its working. But, mostly the investor is not looking for it. They do not want a breakthrough idea, but a breakthrough business model. And we fail to understand this. The timing and approach are the 2 main things that can uplift any startup. That's the reason why sometimes brilliant ideas fail but dumb ideas make it through. We favor technology over the business model, and here we get wrong. Unless we have a very solid business plan, we can not get our idea available to the masses. In this highly competitive world, our business plan, our idea, and our final product, everything needs to be perfect. But, let's assume that we have a perfect product ready. Now, we need some investment to make it available in the market, how do we get it? How should we approach the investor? Well, to answer these questions, I've listed 7 points that you need to take care of while pitching to your investor:  # 1. You've to sell yourself and not just your idea While pitching your idea, remember that "Investors invest in people, not in ideas". Ideas fail, entrepreneurs don't. They are looking for a person who's ready to give everything in order to make his/her idea successful. If you make your investor believe in you, he'll not think twice before investing. You have to prove him that you can be trusted with his money. # 2. Tell him that you have the right people in your team To get your idea successful, you don't need the best people but the right people in your team. An investor is interested to know only one thing about your team and that is, what your team is capable of. Tell your investor why they are the best to work with. Highlight their achievements, experiences, and skills. # 3. Identify the problem While discussing the problem with your investor, customize it. Don't talk about the problem in general, do a little research about your investor and give him a problem which he can relate. If he can relate the problem, he's interested in your solution. Here, you need to make him believe that you understand the problem deeply and this is a real-world problem. # 4. Give him the solution Now, you've gained his interest, give him a solution. This is the trickiest part because expect that he has also done some research on your competition and existing ideas. You have to give him an ideal solution with unique selling points which really makes a difference. Do your research well and get ready for any question to tackle. He'll try to convince you that your idea is not worth the money. But, don't fall into the trap. # 5. Tell him why is this the right time to enter the market As stated before, timing and approach can uplift any startup. Convince him that this is the perfect time for your idea to enter the market. Give him the stats he's looking for. Tell him that you've done a proper research and you're ready for any hurdle that comes in your way. # 6. Discuss your customer acquisition plan Tell your investor that how you will acquire users. This part covers industry demand, user need, and your connections in the market. Your customer acquisition plan should be practical. This part alone can convince your investor to invest the money into your startup. So, prepare it well. # 7. Tell him how you will make money and how he can gain huge profits from your startup if he invests now Everything is done. It's time to talk about the money. Tell him how he can gain huge profits if he invests now. Tell him about your 5-year business plan and what to expect at the end of every year. Show him the size of the market you are tapping into. And the revenue you can generate. Also, tell him what he'll get if decides to exit early. Hence, it's time to talk about the business here. Convince him that his every penny spent on your business will give him good returns.
