| title | Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk |
| body | The phrase “don’t cry over spilt milk” has been around for generations and that’s because it should send a lifelong message to everyone who hears it. Obviously it’s not about spilling things on the floor and getting angry that you now have to clean up. The best way I’ve heard it be explained was in Dale Carnegie’s book ‘How to Stop Worrying and Star Living’ in which he speaks of a science teacher Dr. Paul Brandwine who demonstrates a message to his class by sweeping a bottle of milk down and after it crashes he asks the class to gather around as he spoke “I want you to remember this lesson the rest of your lives. That milk is gone. You can see it down the drain; and all the fussing and hair-pulling in the world won’t bring back a drop of it. With a little thought and prevention, that milk might have been saved. But it’s too late now, all we can do is write it off, forget it, and go on to the next thing” As humans we are constantly battling the thoughts of ‘I should have’ or ‘I shouldn’t have’ but doing that in no way benefits us as we can’t change what happened a second ago. Our battle should be to reduce the time spent dwelling in such moments. If we say to ourselves “it is so, it cannot be otherwise” we can start to break the habit of dwelling on events that cannot be changed and we can start to become more productive with our time. As a day trader it is a very brutal lesson to learn because these moments hit you constantly and consistently! Everyday there is a move I’ve thought about making and have either waited to long or ended up not going through with it and then it booms and I curse myself. But for the last few months I’ve been training myself to forget instantly so that I basically remove the words ‘I should have’ or ‘I shouldn’t have’ from my vocabulary. It’s allowed me to regain focus much quicker and get back to trading, in fact I have broken the habit in most aspects of my life. When something bad happens I find that I don’t dwell on it and it kind of just brushes over me to the point a lot of people have asked “aren’t you worried” about certain situations and my response is usually “no, it is what it is” and cannot be otherwise. If you could change things we all would but unfortunately in life we can’t. The goal of this post is to try and make you aware of the time you spend dwelling on events that cannot be changed. Take a moment to consider how often and how long you waste precious time dwelling on something that is in the past that you should or shouldn’t have done. Now tell yourself today is the beginning of the end and from this point on you will be more conscious of to prevent it. How much more productive could you be in your day at work or at home if you learnt to stop worrying so much and turned that worry into something you enjoy. Please also be aware that with these moments, before you move on, there is always a lesson to be learnt before you brush them aside. Learning from losses is a whole other discussion in itself. The focus here is to not get hung up on or dwell on these once the lesson is understood. And remember “it is so; and cannot be otherwise |

| title | Becoming A Better Writer In Just A Few Months (Pt 3 Entering The Money Markets/Bitcoin) |
| body | To recap from the last part I had just fulfilled my fitness needs completing the physical and now I just had to maintain it. I decided I had another 12 months to choose something else to get good at, sure I was at uni but to be honest I hated what I was studying. I didn’t just want to finish uni and get a job I wanted to be successful! I always grew up loving the Wall Street movies and I was always a keen investor, so I did a bit of research and learning to see what opportunities I might have in that field. Seeing as I didn’t have a huge amount of money I developed a keen interest into the Forex market, it seemed like the perfect place to start my investing career. At the time the AUD was worth a splash more then the USD which I thought made it a great time to hop in. So in 2012 I popped my trading cherry and bought a bunch of USD to buy and sell. As I was just beginning I decided I would try and keep my trades rather small until I got the hang of things and I felt comfortable making larger trades. Not long after I was on 4chan and I stumbled across a very interesting thread, one that had me at awe. As I looked into this thread and kept reading more and more I was hooked, it just seemed like it could be the greatest investment opportunity I could make! Up until 2 years ago most people hadn’t ever heard of it but the name of this investment opportunity was called Bitcoin. Bitcoin just amazed me that thread had me hooked, it spoke of how this coin planned to combat inflation how if a Global Financial Crisis were to ever happen again Bitcoin would keep your money safe. The one thing I really loved about reading about it was to hear that I control my money and not the banks. So for the next 2–3 months I research Bitcoin up and down day and night looking for flaws, the only one that I could find and it still has to this day is if you lose it you lose it unfortunately. Eventually after those few months I decided to take the plunge I went to the banks and told them I wanted to pull all the money from my savings. The lady behind the counter was a little taken aback and ask if I had any issues with the bank to which I told her no so she told me to wait one moment while she spoke with the manager. The next minute the manager politely asked if I could step into her office so I followed her in. If you ever wanted to get your bank fees waived for a year and some other advantages this would be the way. The bank manager was quick to ask “What bank do you plan to move the money to? If we were to waive your account fees for the year or what else could we do to keep you with us?” I told her I wasn’t planning to move banks I just had found and investment opportunity and needed the money. Politely she asked what was the investment opportunity I was taking my savings account out for and I mumbled “bitcoin” then she looked at me funny and said “is that like a car?” to which I hesitated and said “yeah like a car”. So within another 10 minutes I had gotten my money and was off to buy bitcoin. When I finally bought my first bitcoin they were about $5USD and by the time I had used up most of my saving they were around $10USD. They were rapidly growing. When I had told most people they thought I was an idiot who was buying into a pyramid scheme and you couldn’t tell them otherwise. I remember when they hit $170 dollars and they were on the news my friends and family were telling me to sell them now before they dropped but I had faith. I had huge faith in these coins I even remember around in November 2013 Bitcoin was sitting at around $400 USD and I was watching like a hawk. At the time the U.S senate was going to vote to see if Bitcoin could be considered a legitimate currency, at the time I didn’t have any extra money to put in so I called a friend who I knew was a money saver and told him about the upcoming opportunity. He told me there was no way he would invest so I asked him could I borrow the money and pay him back with interest which he saw as the safer investment. The next day we met and he gave me an amount of money which I thanked him for and then ran around the city to buy bitcoin. A few weeks later the price of bitcoin was over $1000 USD I couldn’t believe it, I had doubled the money that I had borrowed and still had all the bitcoin I bought at the beginning. So I decided to sell most of my bitcoin and pay back my friend with his interest seeing as I had more than doubled the money. The relief finally things had gone my way I was happy as Larry. Then at the beginning of 2015 suddenly the price of Bitcoin plummeted even harder and sat between $200–300 a coin. Again I saw a golden opportunity to invest what I had made back into Bitcoin and I did. Today the price of Bitcoin is trading at around $4200 as of writing and I think will continue to keep growing as the mass adoption of cryptocurrencies keeps getting bigger. Some days I miss and wish that the adoption hadn’t come so quickly, as the style of trading was much different, it had a more business like feel to it. Although the ease and speed of trading has picked up greatly and the way you can buy bitcoin is also much easier. If there is one thing I’ve learnt about trading cryptos it is only trust in a hardware wallet and make sure you have plenty of backups. Sure you can leave money on the exchange but if you build the money up to a high amount make sure you move some into wallets as these exchanges are nearly like leaving it with some random guy. Again I had accomplished another goal to take on the investment game and I had a ball doing it. The times I had I wouldn’t trade for the world the journey of trading is a delight and still to this day I keep busy trading but at the same time I wanted to set myself another goal to accomplish even just a smaller one while I worked away at trading. While reading an article I came across a line that said the average CEO reads 50 books each year and mentioned some of my idols such as Warren Buffet, Bill Gate and Richard Branson so I quickly jumped on amazon an ordered maybe 10–15 books. Part 4 won’t be as exciting with numbers but the lessons I learnt trying to read one book each week you may find valuable in your own life as I did. To be continued… (P.S I will be posting more stories on trading cryptocurrencies soon.) |

| body | In part I thought I would start with a bit of my background history as it built me up into the person I am today. There are some moments in my life that aren’t so glamorous but I don’t want you to see them as to dark either as I was able to learn from them though I won’t go to deep. I just wanted to share different moments of my life that got me through adversity and led me to the path of success. As a child I didn’t have it the best and it was far from being the worst, I just had one bad human involved. A step father from the ages of 5 to 14 who was an alcoholic full of negativity who’s only talent was he could fill 240 litre Otto bin with ‘Black Douglas Whiskey’ bottles within a week. He was a cruel and abusive human who was failing in the game of life. I knew from a young age that when I grew up I had to become the total opposite of who this man was, I wanted to be compassionate, caring, trustworthy and successful. By the time I was 14 after a few years of going down to the local boxing gym after school each day I was finally able to help get him out of the house. By the time I was 18 we had moved away from my hometown to a new place about 30 minutes away. My mother was with a new partner who was a good man but I was 6 foot tall and he would call me the ‘Stick Man’ as a joke because I was only weighing around 55kg at the time. I kept saying to myself “I can’t pt on size I’m an ectomorph so I’ll always be lean.” The problem at the time was I had just finished school and was going to uni but I wanted to become a fireman and I knew that I had to put on size by the time I turned 19 or I’d have no chance at passing the physical requirements. I had nearly 12 months to get in the shape I needed to be in, so I started researching what I needed to do to get from 55kg to at least 80–85kg as two of the physical tests was to carry a 75kg dummy down a ladder and staircase. Being that I had just moved from my hometown and I was in a new area where I didn’t know anyone, I knew I had to find someone to start training with. So I signed up to a small gym because I knew I’d feel less intimidated to introduce myself to someone there who I could train with. A month or two went by and I was still without a gym buddy, I knew I had to do something, so I said to myself “today your going to go in and shake everyone’s hand in fact you’re going to do that everyday.” So that day I went to the gym nervous as hell even though the weather was cold I was sweating. I walked in with my head up and shoulders back and went around and shook everyone’s hand one by one to introduce myself. The looks everyone gave me said ‘what the… whos this guy?’. When I got home I thought “goddamn those people probably thought I’m weird.” The next day I went back and I went around and shook everyone’s hand once again and got all the same looks. I still felt nervous but I put on the confident act. Each day I kept going back and doing the same thing and each day it got easier even when there were new people. By the third week I was used to it and so was everyone else, when I walked in people knew I would come up to shake their hand and they’d have a smile on their face instead of looking at me weird. In the third week of saying hello to everyone something else started happening as well, people who were training by themselves would call out “Hey Adam can you give me a spot?” By the fourth week I think it was a Monday as I was training chest and a guy came up and said “Hey Adam are you training chest today? Did you want to train together?” and the same thing kept happening anyone who wasn’t training with anyone would ask if I would like to train with them. Four months in I’ve made friends with everyone in the gym so I can always train with someone. I’ve also put on around 10kg of weight but I still have a long way to go yet. I knew that for my body to adapt to putting on weight I would have to go from eating 5 meals a day to 8 meals until my body started using the extra carbs. Because I was always on the go with two jobs and uni I wanted to know what other guys ate, sure I had looked on the net, read books and watched videos but I’ve always like hearing it ‘straight from the horses mouth’ as well so I decided I’d go around to a few different big named gyms in Melbourne where the beasts trained. Once again I was sweating on a cold day walking into a gym I’ve never beeen to with a notebook ready to ask the most intimidating guy there what he eats on the average day, especially when they’re on the go. The difference this time though was I didn’t have months to get to know them, I had to be candid from the start and tell them what I was trying to achieve and why I was asking what they ate in the average day. I was nervous and I kept reminding myself the worst thing they could tell me was ‘no’. After visiting several different gyms and a few of guys telling me to ‘F’ off or giving me the cold shoulder, I had a bunch of different meals plans (around 20–25) from many different beasts and the only thing it cost was a bit of time and some rejection. The difference here between Googling it, was I got to get very specific with my meal questions as I was face to face with all these guys who had already travelled much further than I even needed to go. On New Years Eve that year a friend from my home town was having a huge party to celebrate. It was the first time I saw a lot of people again since I had finished school the year before and I think I had surprised a lot of them. When I got to the party no one could believe it, a lot were even asking me if I had been taking steroids and were even in disbelief when I would say ‘no’. Here I was nearly 12 months on after I had seen a lot of these people last and I had gone from being a 55kg stick to just above 90kg. To be honest I was in disbelief myself in just how much I had improved as I was no longer the stick man and people wanted to know how I had done it. I had become so determined to gain enough muscle to pass the physical (which I did) and so persistent that I made sure no matter what I was at the gym at least 5–6 days a week. The next year unfortunately even though I passed the tests and the physical with flying colours I didn’t make into the top 10 so again I had to reapply for the following year. But this story was a great inspiration to myself as it got me thinking “If I can do this I can do anything!” from then on the imprint in my head was just that. What can I achieve next? The options were endless. I was already in great shape for next years test all I had to do was maintain it so I knew I had to focus on a new goal something new to achieve. I believed that through persistence and consistency I could start accomplishing any goal I put in front of myself. Then I thought to myself “I’ve always been interested in the stock market and investing and I don’t mind taking risks” So I had a new path to venture down which I which I will continue in my next part. "body": "\n\nIn part I thought I would start with a bit of my background history as it built me up into the person I am today. There are some moments in my life that aren’t so glamorous but I don’t want you to see them as to dark either as I was able to learn from them though I won’t go to deep. I just wanted to share different moments of my life that got me through adversity and led me to the path of success. \n\nAs a child I didn’t have it the best and it was far from being the worst, I just had one bad human involved. \n\nBy the time I was 18 we had moved away from my hometown to a new place about 30 minutes away. I had nearly 12 months to get in the shape I needed to be in, so I started researching what I needed to do to get from 55kg to at least 80–85kg as two of the physical tests was to carry a 75kg dummy down a ladder and staircase.\n\nBeing that I had just moved from my hometown and I was in a new area where I didn’t know anyone, I knew I had to find someone to start training with. \n\nBy the third week I was used to it and so was everyone else, when I walked in people knew I would come up to shake their hand and they’d have a smile on their face instead of looking at me weird. In the third week of saying hello to everyone something else started happening as well, people who were training by themselves would call out “Hey Adam can you give me a spot?” By the fourth week I think it was a Monday as I was training chest and a guy came up and said “Hey Adam are you training chest today? | title | How You Can Take A Journey With Me To Become A Better Writer In Just A Few Months (Pt 1) |
| body | Just the other day a friend and I were talking away about life and how we’ve been taking huge leaps and bounds to improve how we live. Then all of a sudden he asked me “When are you going to start writing?”. I felt as if he had just slapped me in the face with that question, I was trapped, one minute ago we were talking about what we had done that’s improved our lives and now I knew what was coming. I responded “I’m not good at writing I just like reading” which didn’t even answer the question. Then he said “You give everything a go and you always get good at it and you always tell other too as well, so this time I’m telling you!” Right then and there I knew he was right, I’ve always been a stickler for continuous improvement in my life and I don’t want to change that. Being one to try and inspire other people to have a shot at things, I knew I had to challenge myself and start writing, to start sharing content with the world. So for the next 6 months I have challenged myself to write and post as much interesting content as possible in order to become a better writer. But what could I write about? I thought I don’t know much about writing maybe I can write about that, now here I am writing about it but that’s not real deep. Then I decided it may be best to break down this article in parts to explore why I strive for continuous improvement throughout my life and from where it all started. Why I always continue to challenge myself so that I can become a greater person. Sharing my story/journey of getting to this point now where its 3 am and I still choose to hustle and grind instead of sleep. What I do or don’t do and the mistake and failures that I have to learn from but leave in the past. As Earl Nightingale once said “We become what we think about most of the time” and I’m always thinking about more success. Even now when I dream I’m working, hustling and living! And as Emerson said “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” and hes 100% right. The world has made most people forget about the dreams they had as a child, the things they really wanted to do, say or see. To be yourself in the world means you have to fight for everything you want to do because there will always be at least one thing in the way. Life gives you a plastic spoon to dig through concrete walls but on the other side is freedom. Those of you who would like to join me on this journey please feel free to send me links to your drafts if you need some extra eyes over it before publishing. Or link me to articles you’ve just published to share our thoughts. And if you are reading this and are already a pretty swish writer please comment or message me some tips and writing tricks you’re willing to share.! |
