| body | As most of you know mandarin is a common spoken language that more than 1 BILLION people speak everyday and taught by schools in countries all over the the world such as, the UK, America and of course China. If you don't speak this language or don't want to learn it ,it is fine by me, this is my reason i want you to speak this language. The reason i want you to speak mandarin is because China is becoming more powerful and rich that most countries in the area will have join the Chinese empire. After China will start a conquest to conquer the whole world. When this happens the main language will be Mandarin or Cantonese, which most people will have to learn if there may be consequences . Also if your country or state is not conquered by china it will be severely attacked and people will be taken away. If you agree or disagree tell me in the comments down below why you want or not to speak this language. "body": "As most of you know mandarin is a common spoken language that more than 1 BILLION people speak everyday and taught by schools in countries all over the the world such as, the UK, America and of course China. If you don't speak this language or don't want to learn it ,it is fine by me, this is my reason i want you to speak this language.\n\nThe reason i want you to speak mandarin is because China is becoming more powerful and rich that most countries in the area will have join the Chinese empire. After China will start a conquest to conquer the whole world. When this happens the main language will be Mandarin or Cantonese, which most people will have to learn if there may be consequences . Also if your country or state is not conquered by china it will be severely attacked and people will be taken away.\n\nIf you agree or disagree tell me in the comments down below why you want or not to speak this language.\n\n\nBY WILLIAM DANG - AGED 9!\n\nhttps://s.yimg.com/fz/api/res/1.2/oqlTzoT0Ntwc8Idh.Oa8Tg--~C/YXBwaWQ9c3JjaGRkO2g9NDUwO3E9ODA7dz01NzE-/http://www.chinahighlights.com/image/travelguide/learning-chinese/meeting-people.jpg\n\nlink above for Chinese word basics",

| body | A volcano is a landform (usually a mountain) where molten rock erupts through the surface of the planet. In simple terms a volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock (magma) below the surface of the earth. It is a hole in the Earth from which molten rock and gas erupt. Did you know? The name "volcano" has its origin from the name of Vulcan, a god of fire in Roman mythology. As pressure in the molten rock builds up it needs to escape somewhere. So it forces its way up “fissures” which are narrow cracks in the earths crust. Once the magma erupts through the earth’s surface it’s called lava. What is the difference between lava and Magma? Magma is liquid rock inside a volcano. Lava is liquid rock (magma) that flows out of a volcano. Fresh lava ranges from 1,300° to 2,200° F (700° to 1,200° C) in temperature and glows red hot to white hot as it flows. How many volcanoes are there in the world? There are around 1,510 active volcanoes in the world. We currently know of 80 or more which are under the oceans. 1What are the three layers the Earth is made of? Crust The crust is the outer layer of Earth. It is about 18 miles thick. It is the part we live on. Mantle The second layer is called the mantle. It is about 1,800 miles thick. Core The inner layer is called the core. What causes volcanoes to erupt? The Earth's crust is made up of huge slabs called plates, which fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. These plates sometimes move. Between the Earth's crust and the mantle is a substance called magma which is made of rock and gases. When two plates collide, one section slides on top of the other, the one beneath is pushed down. Magma is squeezed up between two plates. What causes volcanoes to erupt? | body | Quetzalcoatlus lived around 70 to 65.5 million years ago during the Cretaceous period and was discovered in North America. With a wing span averaging around 11 metres, quetzalcoatlus was the largest animal to have ever taken to the skies. It was so tall, it could have looked a giraffe in the eye and had the ability to walk on all fours, using its gigantic folded wings as front limbs. Scientists have debated how a creature as large as a private plane, could have ever flown. It was believed that they had hollow, lightweight bones and powerful forelimbs which helped them to catapult themselves into the air. Once airborne, they would use their large wings to soar, using air thermals to keep them aloft. Spinosaurus lived around 100 to 92 million years ago during the Cretaceous period and was discovered in Egypt. Reaching a huge length of almost 50 feet, the new addition to the “Land of the Living Dinosaurs” is the largest and longest predatory dinosaur in the exhibit, staying true to scientists’ belief that spinosaurus was the largest predator to ever roam the earth! With large cone shaped teeth and a long crocodilian shaped jaw these fearsome predators specialised in hunting giant fish and were the first dinosaurs known to swim. the permian period This period saw a world with giant insects including cockroaches and dragonflies, as well as the transformation of ancient rainforests into arid deserts and the arrival of the ancestors of Reptiles & Mammals. These mammal-like reptiles included Gorgonops – one of the largest carnivores of the period. They are instantly recognisable by their oversize canine teeth, used to pierce the tough hides of their prey! The Permian period ended with the largest mass extinction in Earth’s history and some of the planet’s ecosystems took 30 million years to recover. 251-199.6 MILLION YEARS AGO After the extinction of many permian species, Archosaurs and then eventually Dinosaurs would begin to become the prominent species on Earth. Eoraptor is widely regarded as the first ‘true’ dinosaur. They are known to have had both carnivorous and herbivorous teeth, so could have been a very adaptable omnivore. This period also saw the arrival of the first flying vertebrates – the pterosaurs! They had wings formed from a membrane of skin and muscle. The end of the triassic was marked with another major mass extinction – one which allowed the dinosaurs to become dominant. 199.6-145.5MILLION YEARS AGO Widely known as the ‘Age of Reptiles’ the Jurassic saw a change in climate due to continental shifts that created new coastlines and lush rainforests. The Dinosaurs dominated these lands, herbivorous species including Stegosaurus with it’s distinctive back plates and tail spikes, would have co-existed with much larger sauropods like Diplodocus and carnivores including Allosaurus. The first primitive birds including Archaeopteryx also appeared in the late Jurassic. 145-65.5 MILLION YEARS AGO During the Cretaceous period the Earth had a relatively warm climate and life continued to flourish. Early mammals began to evolve but the Dinosaurs continued to dominate the land. Some of the most recognisable dinosaurs lived during this period, including Velociraptor, Triceratops and the infamous Tyrannosaurus rex – one of the largest land predators of all time! |

| body | The Himalayas stretch across the northeastern portion of India. They cover approximately 1,500 mi (2,400 km) and pass through the nations of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Bhutan and Nepal. The Himalayan range is made up of three parallel ranges often referred to as the Greater Himalayas, the Lesser Himalayas, and the Outer Himalayas. While intimidating mountains like Everest and 2K tend to dominate our perceptions of the region, the Himalayas are rich in biodiversity. Climates range from tropical at the base of the mountains to perennial snow and ice at the highest elevations. These complex and diverse eco-regions are interconnected: an ecological threat to one is ultimately a threat to many. Here are just a few examples of Himalayan ecology: Montane Grasslands and Shrublands: Western alpine shrubs and meadows can be found between 9,850 and 16,400 ft. These areas tend to have cold winters and mild summers that allow for plant growth. Rhododendron plants cover the lower shrublands, while the alpine meadows, directly above, host a range of flora in the warmer months. Animals found in this region include the snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and pikas.Temperate Coniferous Forest: In the northeast, temperate sub-alpine conifer forests are found at elevations of 8,200 to 13,800 ft. Located in the inner valley area, these forests are protected from harsh monsoon conditions by surrounding mountain ranges. The dominant tree types are pine, hemlock, spruce, and fir. Animals found in this region include red pandas, takins, and musk deer. Temperate Broadleaf and Mixed Forests: Found in middle elevations of 6,600 to 9,800 ft. in the eastern region are broadleaf and coniferous forests. These forests receive almost 80 inches of annual rainfall, mostly during the monsoon season. In addition to indigenous oaks and maples, plants like orchids, lichen, and ferns also grow in the area. A huge range of wildlife, including over 500 species of birds, are found here during the cooler seasons before they migrate to higher elevations to escape the hot summers. This is also the primary home for golden langur monkeys. Tropical and Sub-tropical Broadleaf Forests: Located at 1,650 to 3,300 ft. along a narrow strip of the outer Himalayan range are the Himalayan sub-tropical broadleaf forests. Here there is a wide range of plant life thanks to the areas varied topography, soil types, and rainfall levels. Forest types include subtropical dry evergreen, northern dry mixed deciduous forests, moist mixed deciduous forests, subtropical broadleaf forests, northern tropical semi-evergreen forests, and northern tropical wet evergreen forests. Wildlife includes many threatened species including tigers and Asian elephants. More than 340 different species of birds can be found in this region. Mount Everest at 29,029 ft (8,848 m) is not only the highest peak in the Himalayas, but the highest peak on the entire planet. Other famous peaks include Karakora (K2), Kailash, Kanchenjunga, Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, and Manasklu. The Himalayas are the source for the Indus, the Yangtze and the Ganga-Brahmaputra. All three are major river systems for the continent of Asia. The main rivers sourced in Himalayas are the Ganges, Indus, Yarlung, Yangtze, Yellow, Mekong, and Nujiang. The Himalayas are the third largest deposit of ice and snow in the world, after Antarctica and the Arctic. There are approximately 15,000 glaciers located throughout the range. At 48 miles (72 km) in length, the Himalayan Siachen glacier is the largest glacier outside the poles.Other notable glaciers located in the Himalayas include the Baltoro, Biafo, Nubra, and Hispur. - The Himalayas are the result of tectonic plate motions that collided India into Tibet. -Because of the great amount of tectonic motion still occurring at the site, the Himalayas have a proportionally high number of earthquakes and tremors. -The Himalayas are one of the youngest mountain ranges on the planet. -The range affects air and water circulation systems, impacting the weather conditions in the region. -The Himalayas cover approximately 75% of Nepal. -Serving as a natural barrier for tens of thousands of years, the range prevented early interactions between the people of India and the people of China and Mongolia. - Mt. Everest was named after Colonel Sir George Everest, a British surveyor who was based in India during the early-to-mid-nineteenth century. -The Nepalese call Mt. Everest “Samgarmatha” which can be translated as “Goddess of the Universe” or “Forehead of the Sky.” -In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay were the first people to successfully climb to the summit of Everest. -Despite its name, the Snow Leopard – a Himalayan local – is actually most closely related to the Tiger. |

| body | The Vikings were not all bloodthirsty raiders. Some came to fight, but others came to Britain to live peacefully. Their longships brought families who settled in villages. There were farmers, who kept animals and grew crops, and skilful craft workers, who made beautiful metalwork and wooden carvings. Everyone lived together in a large home called a ‘longhouse’. The Vikings also brought with them their way of life and beliefs. The Norse people worshipped many gods and loved to tell stories of magic and monsters around the fire. Everything had to be done by hand on a Viking farm, so life was tough. Farmers grew oats, barley and wheat. Then they ground the grain to make flour, porridge and ale. They planted vegetables too, and kept animals like cows, sheep, pigs and chickens. Other Vikings were craft workers. They made the things that people needed. Woodworkers and leatherworkers made plates, cups, belts and shoes. Jewellers made rings and brooches from precious metals. Blacksmiths hammered and twisted red-hot iron into tools, knives and swords. Potters baked clay pots in an oven heated by wood fires. People took these goods to market to sell. Here a family could buy anything from amber beads and apples, to walrus tusks and wolf-skins. Viking traders sold their goods even further away. They sailed the seas to buy silver, silk, spices and furs to bring back home. The Norse people had their own laws and government. The community would gather together at a meeting called a ‘Thing’. Here they would settle problems and make decisions. People could vote on what should happen. For example, the Thing might decide who owned a piece of land or how to punish a criminal. All this was overseen by a chieftain or a judge known as a ‘law-speaker’. Viking laws were not written down, so laws were passed from person to person by word of mouth. People who broke the law became 'outlaws'. They were forced to live in the wilderness and anyone was allowed to hunt them down and kill them. Vikings could also settle arguments with a fight. They held a type of duel, known as a ‘Holmgang’. Whoever won the duel was seen as being favoured by the gods. At the top of Viking society was the king. He was the most powerful person in all the land and everyone looked up to him. Being a king cost a lot of money, because they had to make sure their kingdom was safe and that their followers were loyal to them. Below the king were the nobles or wealthy Vikings known as ‘jarls’. They were rich landowners or traders and they employed men to work for them. Then there were the ‘karls’. They were the everyday people and did jobs like farming and craft work. Karls weren't as rich or important as the jarls, but they weren't poor either. At the bottom of the pile were the 'thralls' or slaves. They did the hardest, dirtiest jobs and if they tried to run away they could be killed. However, if thralls could earn enough money they could buy their freedom. BY WILLIAM AGE:9 |

| body | The Vikings were great explorers and travellers. Viking ships reached Britain, France, Spain, Italy and North Africa. Traders made long journeys overland through Russia, reaching as far south as Constantinople in modern-day Turkey. Some merchants travelled further east to Baghdad in Iraq. A few daring explorers made voyages to Iceland and beyond, travelling across the Atlantic Ocean to North America. The Vikings traded all over Europe and as far east as Central Asia. They bought goods and materials such as silver, silk, spices, wine, jewellery, glass and pottery. In return, they sold items like honey, tin, wheat, wool, wood, iron, fur, leather, fish and walrus ivory. Everywhere they went, the Vikings bought and sold slaves too. Viking traders carried a set of folding scales which they used to weigh coins to make sure they got a fair deal. Vikings sailed close to the coast whenever possible, watching for land marks. Out of sight of land, they looked for the sun: west (towards the sunset) meant they were headed for England; east (towards the sunrise) meant home to Denmark or Norway. The Vikings invented a kind of sun compass to help find their way. At night they watched the skies and could use the position of the stars to determine which direction they were heading. Seamen knew a lot about winds and sea currents. By watching birds or even the colour of the water, an experienced sailor could tell when land was close. Wood rots and metal rusts away after a thousand years or more in the ground, but some remains show what Viking ships were like. Two Viking ships were found by archaeologists in Norway. The Gokstad ship was dug up on a farm in 1880. The Oseberg ship was found on another farm in 1904. Both ships were buried in Viking funerals between AD800 and 900. The Gokstad ship is 23 metres long. It was big enough for 32 oarsmen and had 16 oars on each side. These two ships are now in a museum in Oslo, Norway. In 1893, a copy of the Gokstad ship sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from Norway to America. BY WILLIAM AGE:9 |

| body | Viking warriors fought using long swords and axes. A good sword was handed down from father to son, but Vikings also buried weapons with their owner when he died. Vikings did not wear much armour. Some chieftains wore chain mail coats, but most relied on a round wooden shield for protection. Some Viking warriors went into battle wearing wolf or bear skins. These warriors were called ‘berserkers’ because they went ‘berserk’ (out of control) and charged fearlessly into battle. Berserkers believed that Odin, the god of war, gave them superhuman powers and that they didn't need to wear battle armour for protection. The Vikings did not send many ships on their first raids. They made surprise attacks on places like Lindisfarne. There was no English navy to guard the coasts so it was easy for small groups of Vikings to land on a beach or sail up a river. But it was not long before larger Viking armies attacked Britain. In AD892, 300 Viking ships invaded Britain to fight King Alfred of Wessex. No one knows how big the Viking army was but if there were 20 men in each Viking ship, the army of AD892 numbered 6000! That was a huge army for the time. Most Viking armies were smaller, perhaps 1000 to 2000 men. The Vikings built fast 'dragon-ships' and 'longships' for raiding and war. They also had slower passenger and cargo ships called ‘knorrs’. They built smaller boats too, for fishing or short trips. A ship carried everything needed at sea - drinking water, dried meat to eat, tools, weapons, and furs to keep warm. Viking longships could sail in shallow water so they could travel up rivers as well as across the sea. In a raid, a ship could be hauled up on a beach. The Vikings could jump out and start fighting, and then make a quick getaway if they were chased. BY WILLIAM AGE:9 |
