| title | For the Women Who Inspired Me |
| body | I was browsing through my inbox earlier, and opened a timely email from Udemy. Today being International Women's Day, the theme of the email reflected that. At the bottom, it asked, "Do you have a story about a woman who empowered or inspired you? Let us know! Share your story on Facebook or Twitter using #WomenOfUdemy" I sat back in thought. I don't have a story about a woman who inspired me—I have several...perhaps more than I can reasonably type or even remember. As I begin to type this post, my greatest concern isn't remembering all the women I'd love to pay attribution to, but rather, that I may forget someone who had a subtle, yet pivotal influence on me. But, it's a risk worth taking.
Udemy Women Who've Empowered or Inspired Me
If you're not sure what Udemy is, it's basically an online learning platform through which you can take courses. Since it was a Udemy email that inspired me to create this list, it seems fitting that I should begin with "Udemy women," who are women that have courses on Udemy. The first "Udemy woman" to come to mind is Jessica Brody, a writer with something like 25 books to her name. She has empowered me through her writing courses that you can find on Udemy. Currently, there are 5 of these, and I have them all.
Other Women Who Have Empowered or Inspired Me

My Mother
Of course, this list wouldn't be complete without her. Quite simply, she's a good lady, and she's urged us to be good people, both through her actions and her words.
Jessica Jones
The only fictional character on this list is Jessica Jones. Because she's fictional, some may think her inclusion here is trivial, but as I've written elsewhere, I think she's a solid, much-needed role model.
Jennifer Blanchard
Jennifer Blanchard is a multi-passionate woman who's making a lot of things happen. She's an emerging beacon of empowerment for people who want to be and achieve more in live.
My Friend Maureen
Maureen is a lady who goes to my church. Sometimes, after the service, we sit and talk about things that a grandma and grandson would talk about. I admire the fact that she was able to leave a bad relationship and, on her own, without relying on welfare or any kind of outside support, raise two children.
Kaye and Edwarda O'Bara
Wayne Dyer wrote that the"story of Kaye and Edwarda O'Bara is indeed a love story that transcends our own experiences of love." On January 3rd, 1970, Kaye watched her daughter Edwarda slip into and out of consciousness. In desperation, Edwarda asked her mom, "Promise you won't leave me, will you, Mommy?" For decades, Kaye stayed by her comatose daughter's side, displaying an endurance that can only be born of unconditional love. Though I've never met Kaye or Edwarda (God rest their souls), theirs is a story that touches you, and perhaps changes you in ways you don't yet know. I feel that's the case for me.
Debbie Ford
Though I haven't given Debbie Ford's work the attention it deserves, the little of it that I have read has inpired me to take a look at something that many people don't want to take a look at: the shadow. Just as there's up and down, front and back, and light and dark, there is that aspect of ourselves that we'd rather not know. Thanks to Debbie Ford, many readers now feel empowered to look at their shadows and learn what it has to teach them.
Oprah Winfrey
From overcoming systematic racism and sexism, sharing her story of being abused, to being a staple of positivity in a world that needs light, Oprah Winfrey is deserving of mention.
Ellen DeGeneres
If I could summarize Ellen DeGeneres in one word, it'd be kindness. I don't watch Ellen that often, but I have seen segments where she has done wonderful things for members of her audience. Those deeds are duly noted.
Hallie Ephron
Haillie Ephron is a mystery writer and author of a book I'm currently working through: Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel: The Complete Guide to Mystery, Suspense, and Crime. Though the book currently doesn't have a lot of reviews, it's been held in very high regard by reviewers on Amazon and Goodreads. In fact, Lee Child said, that it's "The best how-to guide I have ever seen--I just wish I could have read it twenty years ago." That, coming from Lee Child, is very high praise. I myself am exploring the craft of mystery writing, and I find this book quite instructive. It will save me years.
Agatha Christie
While we're on the subject of mystery writing, Agatha Christie deserves mention for her contribution to the mystery genre. According to Harper Collins, Christie is "the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare." Only recently have I started on her works, reading And Then There Were None, which is said to be one of the best mystery novels of all time. As a side note, I am aware that And Then There Were None had been previously titled. In fact, it had two previous titles (that I'm aware of). I know that both those titles may be offensive to some, but for me, I'm not here to judge any of her personal biases (if she had any). I have not looked deeply into the biographical life of Agatha Christie, and even if I did, any biases she may have had have not hindered my enjoyment of this book. I mention her here because, her writing has been received universally, and her books set a good standard for others to aim for.
Bonnie Johnston
If you're an aspiring author and take your craft seriously, I would urge you to invest in some courses by Bonnie Johnston. But I will warn you: some of them are detailed and deep, and ask you to really implement yourself. If you do, you'll emerge a much better writer.
Melanie Anne Phillips
I feel that what Melanie Ann Philips helped create—namely, the Dramatica storytelling paradigm—is universally applicable to a number of fields. Her work is little-known to the general masses, but I feel it will have an effect on things that even now, I can't exactly determine.
Jane Austen
Pride and Prejudice is said to be "a love story centuries old, but eternally fresh." Admittedly, I haven't finished it yet, but as an aspiring author, I have it on my to-read list. When Jane Austen penned this masterpiece, I don't think she knew of the centries-long appeal it would garner. Her work has been the inspiration (and future inspiration) of many readers.
J.K. Rowling
We all know that literacy is critically important. Perhaps the one person who has inspired people to read, and not just read, but immerse themeselves in a living, well-written world, is J.K. Rowling.
Hope Huggs (Heather)
Though I had heard of Steemit before, it was Heather's product that renewed my interest in this platform, and urged me to get back here and create content. So, today being International Women's Day, the above-mentioned women are a few of the women who have empowered or inspired me. |

I admire the fact that she was able to leave a bad relationship and, on her own, without relying on welfare or any kind of outside support, raise two children. \n\n
Kaye and Edwarda O'Bara
\n\nWayne Dyer wrote that the\"story of Kaye and Edwarda O'Bara is indeed a love story that transcends our own experiences of love.\"\n\nOn January 3rd, 1970, Kaye watched her daughter Edwarda slip into and out of consciousness. In desperation, Edwarda asked her mom, \"Promise you won't leave me, will you, Mommy?\"\n\nFor decades, Kaye stayed by her comatose daughter's side, displaying an endurance that can only be born of unconditional love. \n\nThough I've never met Kaye or Edwarda (God rest their souls), theirs is a story that touches you, and perhaps changes you in ways you don't yet know. I feel that's the case for me. \n\n
Debbie Ford
\n\nThough I haven't given Debbie Ford's work the attention it deserves, the little of it that I have read has inpired me to take a look at something that many people don't want to take a look at: the shadow. \n\nJust as there's up and down, front and back, and light and dark, there is that aspect of ourselves that we'd rather not know. Thanks to Debbie Ford, many readers now feel empowered to look at their shadows and learn what it has to teach them. \n\n\n
Oprah Winfrey
\n\nFrom overcoming systematic racism and sexism, sharing her story of being abused, to being a staple of positivity in a world that needs light, Oprah Winfrey is deserving of mention. \n\n
Ellen DeGeneres
\n\nIf I could summarize Ellen DeGeneres in one word, it'd be kindness. I don't watch Ellen that often, but I have seen segments where she has done wonderful things for members of her audience. Those deeds are duly noted.\n\n
Hallie Ephron
\n\nHaillie Ephron is a mystery writer and author of a book I'm currently working through: Writing and Selling Your Mystery Novel: The Complete Guide to Mystery, Suspense, and Crime. Though the book currently doesn't have a lot of reviews, it's been held in very high regard by reviewers on Amazon and Goodreads. In fact, Lee Child said, that it's \"The best how-to guide I have ever seen--I just wish I could have read it twenty years ago.\"\n\nThat, coming from Lee Child, is very high praise. \n\nI myself am exploring the craft of mystery writing, and I find this book quite instructive. It will save me years. \n\n
Agatha Christie
\n\nWhile we're on the subject of mystery writing, Agatha Christie deserves mention for her contribution to the mystery genre. According to Harper Collins, Christie is \"the most widely published author of all time, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare.\" \n\nOnly recently have I started on her works, reading And Then There Were None, which is said to be one of the best mystery novels of all time. \n\nAs a side note, I am aware that And Then There Were None had been previously titled. I mention her here because, her writing has been received universally, and her books set a good standard for others to aim for.\n\n
Bonnie Johnston
\n\nIf you're an aspiring author and take your craft seriously, I would urge you to invest in some courses by Bonnie Johnston. But I will warn you: some of them are detailed and deep, and ask you to really implement yourself. If you do, you'll emerge a much better writer. \n\n
Melanie Anne Phillips
\n\nI feel that what Melanie Ann Philips helped create—namely, the Dramatica storytelling paradigm—is universally applicable to a number of fields. Her work is little-known to the general masses, but I feel it will have an effect on things that even now, I can't exactly determine. \n\n
Jane Austen
\n\nPride and Prejudice is said to be \"a love story centuries old, but eternally fresh.\" Admittedly, I haven't finished it yet, but as an aspiring author, I have it on my to-read list. When Jane Austen penned this masterpiece, I don't think she knew of the centries-long appeal it would garner. Her work has been the inspiration (and future inspiration) of many readers. \n\n
J.K. Rowling
\n\nWe all know that literacy is critically important. Perhaps the one person who has inspired people to read, and not just read, but immerse themeselves in a living, well-written world, is J.K. Rowling. \n\n
Hope Huggs (Heather)
\n\nThough I had heard of Steemit before, it was Heather's product that renewed my interest in this platform, and urged me to get back here and create content.\n\nSo, today being International Women's Day, the above-mentioned women are a few of the women who have empowered or inspired me.",

| body | When I saw the title of this post, I chuckled inwardly. Yes, I've encountered the producer-vs-consumer issue before, and at times, I've been a consumer far more often than I'd like to be. It can be a tricky balance to find, because in order to be a good content producer, you must not just first be a consumer—you need to find good, accurate content to consume. Then, after that, you have to assemble your sources, formulate your position, and then produce that content. |

Some people are so kind that their kindness might be mistaken for weakness. What such people need to be, in my opinion, is both kind and assertive—provide value for others without letting others take advantage of them. |

| title | For the Women Who Inspired Me |
| body | I was browsing through my inbox earlier, and opened a timely email from Udemy.

I feel that what Melanie Ann Philips helped create--namely, the Dramatica storytelling paradigm--is universally applicable to a number of fields.
So, today being International Women's Day, the above-mentioned women are a few of the women who have empowered or inspired me. |

| body | As I type this, in a few seconds from now, the second season of Jessica Jones will launch on Netflix. The aim of this post is to share my enthusiasm for this series, listing what some found appealing about the first series, relaying what some early reviewers have said about the first 5 episodes of the second season, and finally, concluding with my hopes for the second season. In November of 2015, the first season of Jessica Jones was released, and was greeted with critical acclaim, earning an 8.1/10 on IMDb, 81% on Metacritic, and 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Originally, Jessica Jones was a Marvel Comic book series featureing a protagonist of the same name. Though I've never read any of the comic books, my understanding is that some of the events in the comics are closely mirrored in the first season (which I did watch and thoroughly enjoyed).
A Few Things That Fans Liked About The First Season of Marvel's Jessica Jones
1. First, we have a strong, yet vulnerable female superhero who seems very human. While she does have superhuman powers, they don't exempt her from having to earn a living like most people do. Jessica Jones is the owner and, at least as far as I've seen, the sole investigator at Alias Investigations, which is a private detective agency. 2. People like the noir look and feel of the show. It's dark—not dark in the sense of the horror genre, but rather, the Jessica Jones color palette reflects some of the dark themes that the first series touched on. 3. Some of the themes the show deals with are perhaps ones that society doesn't like to talk about, yet cannot deny. Psychological abuse and manipulation are just two themes that come to mind. (In fact, some categorize this show as a psychological thriller.)
What Some Early Reviewers Have Said About Season 2's First 5 Episodes

From the 3 review videos I've seen, I can tentatively make one conclusion: the first 5 episodes ask for patience. That is, it may not start with the same pacing that fans will expect, but there's hope that the first 5 are a good setup for a rewarding payoff we'll see in the later episodes.

In a video by The Ruby Tuesday, it was stated beautifuly (and I paraphrase): season 1 was about Jessica Jones' efforts to rectify something psychological, and season 2 is more about her heart, and/or trying to find out who she is.

I've heard of the character-vs-plot polarity, which is the idea that some stories are more character-driven than plot-driven, whereas the opposite holds true for other stories.
In my opinion, great stories are a balance of the two, as they're reflective of each other. But I digress. Anyway, in a similar vein, I feel that season 1 will be seen as more plot-driven than season two, and convesely, season two will be seen as a character-driven plot where Jessica searches for something she needs to come to grips with. And, for her sake, I do hope she finds what she's looking for.

I was going to mention this elsewhwere, but it's worth stating here: the release date of March 8th was selected because it's International Women's Day. That's significant because the writing and production of the second season emphasized the contributions that women make to film.
Some feel that, for most of the history of the movie industy, women have been under-represented in key production roles, such as writer and director. However, for season 2 of this series, it was previously known that a number of key roles, both in front of the camera and elsewhere, would be held by women. I'm not sure exactly why this was the case, but I would surmise that since the second season is launching today (International Women's Day), the move to have women in key roles was to highlight the contributions that women make to film and cultural dialogue.

My Hopes for Season 2 of Jessica Jones
I mentioned earlier that I do hope Jessica finds what she's searching for. From the trailers I've seen, it seems that she wants to get come closure on something, or at least come to grips with it. Reviewers have indicated that the first 5 episodes are slow, and for me, that's fine. Sometimes, to go fast, you need to go slow, and perhaps this slow build-up will set the momentum for a glorious climax and rewarding finish. After I watch and fully devour the 13th episode, I do hope I'll say, "Yes, I know why people felt the first 5 episodes were slow, but they couldn't have done it any other way. What a finish!" Ah, look at the time: it launched a few minutes ago. |

| title | Jessica Jones, Season 2 Launches...Now! |
| body | As I type this, in a few seconds from now, the second season of Jessica Jones will launch on Netflix.

What a finish!" |

| body | Maybe I have been doing life all wrong. I am constantly in search of true happiness. I mean, I love my family and my husband and boys do make me happy, but I often feel unfulfilled with my own personal experiences. I should focus more on meaning and motivation and less on the term "happiness". Thank you for this article, it really has me thinking and evaluating! |

I mean, I love my family and my husband and boys do make me happy, but I often feel unfulfilled with my own personal experiences. | body | I'd like to see how some people would respond to the line,"I grabbed her and threw her against the wall." In today's politically-correct era, some may complain about that line. It doesn't bother me, per se, because as I read the poem, it seemed that this was partially describing an inner struggle. Two lines that I liked were, I am an immovable object She is an unstoppable force When I read those lines, I asked myself, What happens when an unstoppable force comes in contact with an immovable object? |
