| body | For part 1: https://steemit.com/vacation/@diremare/osaka-sightseeing-guide-part-1
Day 2
9:00 am Osaka Castle 12 pm Suijyo Bus ( Aqua-Liner) 1 pm Umeda HEP 5 5 pm Umeda Sky Building Observatory
Osaka Castle
Kick start the day by visiting one another iconic destination in Osaka. The Osaka Castle (known as Ōsakajō in Japanese) dates back to 1583. Toyotomi Hideyoshi intended the castle to become the center of a new unified Japan. It was the largest castle at the time. A few years after Hideyoshi's death, the castle was attacked and destroyed by Tokugawa troops which effectively ended the Toyotomi lineage in 1615. The Osaka Castle was rebuilt by Tokugawa Hidetada in the 1620s, but its main castle tower was struck by lightning in 1665 and burnt down. It wasn't until 1931 the main tower was rebuilt. Major repair work was done in 1997. The castle tower is now entirely modern on the inside and even features an elevator for easier accessibility. The Osaka Castle (known as Ōsakajō in Japanese) dates back to 1583. Toyotomi Hideyoshi intended the castle to become the center of a new unified Japan. It was the largest castle at the time. \n\nA few years after Hideyoshi's death, the castle was attacked and destroyed by Tokugawa troops which effectively ended the Toyotomi lineage in 1615. The Osaka Castle was rebuilt by Tokugawa Hidetada in the 1620s, but its main castle tower was struck by lightning in 1665 and burnt down. It wasn't until 1931 the main tower was rebuilt. \n\nMajor repair work was done in 1997. The castle tower is now entirely modern on the inside and even features an elevator for easier accessibility. It houses an informative museum about the castle's history and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.\n\nAccess: To get to Osaka Castle by Subway, you can take either the Chuo Line or the Nagahori Tsurumi-Ryokuchi Line to Morinomiya Station. | body | I understand all the planning involved when traveling to a new place for the first time can be stressful. Even a detailed plan may not turn out as expected upon execution; Because I went through exactly that before this trip and I'm here to help with the research. This will be a detailed guide based on my recent experience in Osaka, I'll also include my original schedule for reference. With the introduction of each sightseeing location, I will recommend a list of activities to do in the area. And hopefully, provide you with some useful insights that I wish I'd known when I was in Osaka. For those of you looking to visit Osaka in the near future, I hope you'll find what you're looking for here.
Day 1
3:50 pm - Arrival 5:30 pm - Checked- in at Smile Hotel Premium Osaka, Hommachi 7 pm - Dinner @ Dontonbori Purchase Osaka Amazing Pass 2-day pass at Kansai airport KIX for 3,300 yen (Kansai Tourist Information Center at either terminal 1 or 2) With the Osaka Amazing Pass, you'll have access to numerous tourist attractions completely free of charge. Click the link for a list of facilities that are included with the pass and take full advantage: https://www.osp.osaka-info.jp/en/facility/free The best part about the Amazing Pass is that you may ride buses and trains within Osaka unlimitedly! An important thing to note is that the "days" starts counting from the first use of the pass to the last train of the day. So, if you arrive in the afternoon on your first day, I'd recommend saving it to use on a full day to get the maximum value. Note: If you plan to visit Kyoto as well, I'd recommend picking up the Keihan Railway Pass from KIX as well. (1-day pass: 800 yen / 2-day pass: 1,200 yen) After you check-in to the hotel to drop off all your luggage, the adventure begins right away!
Dotonburi
Dotonburi is an iconic tourist attraction in Osaka. Expect huge crowds for popular restaurants and shops! ![IMG_5053[1].JPG](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmadRg5ukGMbBZs1RrmvqdtqpeBLUrNwfgMsVwUxHcaSG4/IMG_5053[1].JPG) "Dontonburi is absolutely stunning at night, it'll make your first night in Osaka unforgettable." Things to do: 1.) Take a photo in front of Glico Man 2.) Take a river cruise - There are a few different cruise operators in Dontonburi but they all provide a similar service. 3.) Try Kushikatsu - I recommend Kushikatsu Daruma. 4.) Try Osaka's signature Takoyaki 5.) Go on the Farris wheel at Don Quijote at night and enjoy the view! 6.)Take a walk down Shinsaibashi shopping arcade and take in vibrant Osaka atmosphere. 7.) Try your skill in crane games at Round One Stadium - We went to numerous game centers throughout Osaka and highly recommend Round One Stadium because we had the highest success rate there when compared with SEGA and Namco. Their staffs were the most friendly and helpful compared to all the others. ![IMG_5059[1].JPG](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfQBXGG6dhj6K99haZRYa6QapC8VUhSRNsmhWvcFwdyzJ/IMG_5059[1].JPG) "At Kushikatsu Daruma - With an endless amount of street food to enjoy, you'll wish you had a bigger stomach in order to try it all! | body | I understand all the planning involved when traveling to a new place for the first time can be stressful.
![IMG_5059[1].JPG](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmfQBXGG6dhj6K99haZRYa6QapC8VUhSRNsmhWvcFwdyzJ/IMG_5059[1].JPG) "At Kushikatsu Daruma - With an endless amount of street food to enjoy, you'll wish you had a bigger stomach in order to try it all! | body |
The fault is in our stars
...Or in other words, our nature is predetermined. We all like to believe we are capable of rational and logical thinking, when in fact we often make decisions based on feelings and not logic at all. We make purchase decisions all the time based primarily on feelings. When was the last time you made an impetuous purchase decision which felt right at first but after a few days time you regretted? What you purchased at that moment isn't about the product nor its features but rather how it made you feel. A good example of this phenomenon is what drives people to purchase luxury goods. After all, there are plenty of other economically sound alternatives that are functionally identical to their luxury counterparts. To put it simply, what separates luxury goods from the latter is merely the brand name and what it represents to the individual who purchased it. What other reasons does the rational individual have to justify the massive price differential? One likely scenario is that someone will buy luxury brands because they “feel” it will increase their social status though few would be willing to admit it. But what exactly is a social status? A “social status” by definition, is a person’s standing or importance in relation to others within a society. Just as your father’s social status would have more significance to you than myself, we can conclude that a social status is all relative and quite personal. Moreover, I’m sure most would agree that it cannot be bought. So why do rational individuals often fool themselves into thinking the latter? That’s because the perceived increase in social status is only in their heads! Confidence and pride are two desirable feelings that a buyer of a status symbol commonly associates with their purchase. However, on the other end of the spectrum, making a bad purchase based on fear, guilt, or shame (or the avoidance of them) also isn't unheard of. The fear of missing out “on the rocket to the moon" when you are eyeing the rising prices of cryptocurrencies which led to your impetuous “investment” at a less than ideal entry point. Or the fear of judgment when you don't tip at a restaurant are two specific examples of how often we end up letting our emotions dictate our actions. If you were thinking “as long as it makes them happy, why does it matter?” then you’d have also proven me correct.
Everyone is at the center of their universe
Whether it be a brand or product, our brains are constantly assigning relative value subconsciously to everything we come into contact within our lives. Our brains employ a mechanism that ranks everything in our lives in order to draw an “associations” to ourselves. In other words, our brain is constantly asking the question of “how this object relates to me?” without us realizing it. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with huge amounts of information at an ever-increasing rate, our brains help us cope by filtering out or blocking all the irrelevant information from our lives (whether it be a person, place or thing). And since everyone’s filter is unique to them, it is through this highly personal process we begin to form our unique identities. We assign relative values subconsciously based on two key factors: How often we come into contact with said object and how the object makes us feel. This is the same reason why the less you come into contact with a relative, the more distant they become. My forgotten Gameboy in the bottom of my drawer is less valuable to me than my newly purchased Nintendo Switch even though there was a time when the Gameboy was my prized possession and I’d play it almost daily. Even though it still works, I felt less and less inclined to play with it the more it sat in my drawers. Items ranking highest in relative value includes objects with sentimental values. Sentimental belongings are unique to each individual and thus highly personal. The experience and story associated with the items are what makes them valuable to the individual but means little to everyone else. This is also what makes the statement “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” ever so true.
Closing note
Do not be mistaken that I’m devaluing the significance of doing what makes you happy; rather, I wish to make a point that we often make decisions based on our emotions and feelings rather than logic. Understanding that emotions may muddle our judgment will help us make informed decisions in the future. After all, the ability to be self-aware is what separates us from animals and makes us better human beings. |

| body | Hello Steemarians. Here are my personal simple no-bullshit tips I've learned over the last few years working in sales. It is my hope you may find something practical here as you train to become a master conversationalist.
"Go and live life!"
Travel and go on adventures often. This will not only greatly expand your worldview but also give you tons of conversational fodder. If traveling isn't up your alley you can also try picking up a new hobby or joining a sports team. This is not only a perfect opportunity to practice the art of socializing but also a place to meet new friends.
"Become a therapist "
The job of a good therapist is to get people to open up to them. Once you acknowledge the truth that everyone is the center of their universe, you'll have a lot easier time to earn their favors. People will gladly open up and share their feelings and opinions if you would provide them an opportunity to do so. When the opportunity presents itself, ask them how do they feel about XYZ in all the different forms (i.e. how do you feel about the world cup this year? Are you excited for France vs. Croatia match next week?) Preferably stay away from topics you know nothing about.
"Like shouting in a cave"
Hearing our own words come out of someone else's mouths is gratifying. To an extent, it shows us they are listening to us intently, even if it's not the case. Use this technique if you're having difficulties getting deeper into a conversation and need to subtly encourage the speaker to elaborate on it. Often times, echoing what the other person said can keep the conversation going effortlessly.
"A picture is worth a thousand words"
A great Analogy is like a paintbrush you can use to illustrate your point more vividly in the listener's minds. Use Analogies relevant to the listener and your words will have more impact. This leads to increased listener comprehension and consequently a better retention rate. For example, if you're attempting to convey why explaining a joke ruins it, you may say "Explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog. You understand it better but the frog dies in the process." Bonus points if the listener is a biology major. Also, the creative use of puns can also grab attention and maybe if you're lucky, you'll get a few chuckles as well. (i.e. A reel expert can tackle anything) |

| body | Based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Physiological and safety needs must be met before an individual is capable of pursuing self-fulfillment needs. Thus, I can hypothesize that only those with sufficient mental aptitude dares to challenge their own consciousness by seeking of ways to alter their perception of the world. It is the desire to experience and BE something else other than your usual self. psychedelic experiences can often be "mind-opening" and "out of the body" and thus does wonders in raising empathy and social awareness in certain individuals. Other than the rare case of schezoiphrania in some, there has been no proven health risks and recorded fatalities linked psychedelics and marijuana. Sadly, the use of drugs is often illegal and wrongfully vilified by very conservative beliefs and governments, who would lead you to believe that only troubled and wicked will associate themselves with the drug culture. I find that governments have their hearts in the right place when it comes to protecting the less informed general public from possible harm, however, their execution is completely wrong in most cases. Through the use of fear by making these substances illegal rather than actually educating and informing the public, causing unbiased, irrational exaggerated fear of drugs and the drug users by the general public; A counter-productive measure that ensures the drug culture goes underground and more difficult to regulate. No working government in the world has been able to fully regulate the drug economy by outlawing it. When you outlaw something, you simply forfeit control over it to somebody else to operate. As long as there are a demand and money to be made (because there certainly will) there will always be a supplier. "If there is a will, there is always a way" Instead of spending billions in tax dollar on maintaining a Drug Enforcement Administration and the jails that house, clothes and feed minor drug offenders, we should be funding drug research and rehabilitation programs instead. These substances are our "best tools" to journey into the mind, but as long as they are outlawed, further research and funding into how they may be used to enhance our everyday lives are impossible. Like all tools, these substances are not inherently good nor bad, it all depends on your perspective and how you use it is used. However, even the mildest of substances have the potential to be abused depending on the user. Anyone with any wit will tell you it makes no sense to blame the tool for a job done poorly. I am not encouraging drug use by any measure, but rather I'm encouraging people to form their own educated opinion on it through researching unbiased credible sources. Treat drugs with the same respect they would a firearm and learn how to take it safely and in a controlled environment may just save your life. Moreover, I wish everyone can withhold their judgment over drug users because you don't know their story and everyone has their own reasoning. Drug addicts are victims who attempted to use drugs as a means to escape troubles in their lives. Understand that the drug culture isn't suitable for everyone as everyone will have different tolerance and beliefs. Know yourself well so you can weigh the pros and cons. Understanding all the risks and the precaution you can take to avoid self-harm can help you make the correct judgment call if you are considering to try a new substance. Never use drugs as a means to escape your life as this can lead to dependency and severe problems later on. Unfortunately, your responsibilities don't dissipate just because you're high. You're a risk taker who wants to try everything once. Open-mindedness and the desire to experimentation with drugs for the purpose of mental self-discovery is often a quality shared by those with higher than average intelligence. If you're one of the rare few who has an open mind and considered yourself to be fairly intelligent, then you'll know to never to leap blind, but rather only take calculated risks (a risk you can measure). |

| body | Happy Chinese new years to all my Asian and Chinese readers! With Chinese new years just around the corner, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone the importance of passing down cultural traditions and heritage so that they are not lost in the near future. It is partly due to our cultural differences that make the world such a wonderful place to see and explore. Can you imagine how boring it would be if everywhere you traveled all you see is boring, indistinguishable highrises and shopping malls? Part of what makes traveling fun is because we are being blessed with a planet full of diversity and we are able to share and rejoice in our differences. For myself, one of the biggest joys of living is being able to travel and see new countries for the first time. I fear much like monetization of the western Christmas celebration, much of the same is happening with the lunar new year celebration. The "modern" lunar new year celebration may be losing its significance as the perception of what is deemed customary becomes more and more vague in the attempt to appeal to the masses. It is up to the parents of the next generation to do everything they can to ensure our children will have the opportunity to retrace their cultural roots and be familiarise with their heritage. Some of the best parts of the lunar year are the folklore and legends that gave life and meaning to the celebrations. Here's an animated story of the demon called "Nian" and the mythical origins of the lunar new year celebration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=81&v=0uJbp8d_d9c |

| body |
despite the darkness, there is hope
For the last few weeks, I might have caught the "winter blues" and I was rather gloomy and dare I say, depressed. I was hit with a streak of unproductive, and it seemed pessimism had gotten the better of me again. I was aware that the flow of my thoughts was impeded and I was becoming easily agitated and restless. It was eight years ago that I was diagnosed with clinical depression and though technically I have long recovered, that experience still haunts me to this day with the threat of a relapse around every bad day. After some internal debate, I have decided to share with the readers of my blog today, my personal experience with depression. I figured this way, I may do something positive for the community, but also breaking the chain of unproductivity at the same time (two birds with one stone). I'll admit writing this piece was really difficult. I'm currently an unproductive mess and my thoughts all over the place. However, I knew I wanted more than anything to prove to others and myself that it is possible to overcome it. Throughout the process, I told myself "if I can pull this off when I'm at my worst, imagine what I'm capable of at my best!" and I actually did it! It is my wish that through my writing, I may empower and become a positive influence to others struggling with mental illness or knows someone who is struggling with mental illness. More importantly, I hope people may find comfort in my words and know that they aren't alone in this fight. This I believe, is the best testimony anyone can give to show others that despite the darkness, there is hope. Please don't ever give up!
My Story
It happened 8 years ago, but I can still remember the day I tried to end it all as if it was only yesterday. I sat on the edge of my bed, motionless with a pen and a notebook in my hands. Beside me laid an open bottle of sleeping pills. I had just made another attempt to take my own life and was in the process of writing my last words. With shaking hands and sweaty palms, I began to jot down "dear mom and dad, I'm sorry but I just can't take it anymore. Please forgive me." All the while hoping it'd be over soon; a quick painless death. I'll admit I was a coward for choosing suicide as an escape. The truth was...I actually didn't want to die; I just wanted this living nightmare to be over. That afternoon eight years ago would have been my last if my parents didn't discover me in time and rushed me to the ER. At that moment, I honestly had myself convinced I no longer had nothing to live for. My girlfriend of four years had just ended the relationship with me and some of the people whom I thought were friends, became as distant as ever during my struggle with depression. As my world was falling apart around me, I found temporary refuge inside my head to hide from my real-world problems instead of facing them. There were times I felt as if this depression had a mind of its own and was attempting to pick my brains for any negative thoughts to feed upon, more fuel for its fury. I became obsessed with criticizing my past failures and I would watch those horrible scenarios unfold over and over in my head, most often before trying to fall asleep. The scariest truth about depression is that it can turn you into a dreadful, unlovable and bitter individual before it stripes away your soul; it makes you self-absorbed (in the sense that you only focus on your pain) and blind to all the positive and good things happening around you. It ultimately drives people away from you so that you may die alone. Often It's not easy befriending or being around someone who is depressed because their negativity can infectious. Knowing this, I realize I'm truly blessed to have parents and friends who never gave up on me. It was thanks to the consistent love and support of family and friends that I was able to survive my depression to tell the tale.
In the shadows
Since then, I'm proud to say I've only had one isolated incident where I felt I almost went over the edge. For individuals whos been through depression, however, the danger is never really over. Akin to a predator waiting to strike at me in my most vulnerable state; the threat of a relapse is very real and always lingering in the deep-end of their consciousness. To this day, whenever I fall into a period of unexplainable melancholy, I begin to worry that I might be headed towards a relapse. My advice to those who are struggling is to talk with someone whom you trust and can listen. Someone won't ask you too many questions and just be there for you. Remind yourself that it's impossible to feel chipper all the time and that it's normal to feel sad sometimes, even if the reason doesn't seem obvious. Take responsibility and ownership for your own negative feelings. Allow yourself to feel sad and let it all out. I feel it is part of a healthy healing process to own up to your mistakes and make peace with all the negativity in the past. Therefore, though it's a little embarrassing for me admit, I will share my faults. Looking back now, it became apparent I lacked the mental maturity in handling my relationships better. Much of the tragedy could have been avoided if only I was slower to blame others and handled disagreements more tactfully. It is my belief that, owning your mistakes is what will make you stronger as a survivor and healthy part of respecting yourself.
Ray of Hope
I'm thankful for my depression for providing me a painful yet valuable life lesson that I believe helped me rediscover my true values in life. It reminds me to be thankful for all the good in my life, no matter how insignificant it may be. If nothing else, be thankful you are alive today and able to experience life because every life is a miracle. I came out of the ordeal closer and more intimate with my family and discovered my true friends. For all the supportive friends who stuck around at my worst, you have my eternal gratitude. I am choosing to remain strong and live another day for them. |
