      "body": "Aunque la actividad no es ilegal en el país (como en la mayoria), funcionarios Sebin monitorean aquellos lugares donde se dispara el consumo eléctrico y, si encuentran máquinas, detienen a los dueños o los extorsionan.\nUn edificio de oficinas en Caracas esconde el mismo secreto que muchos otros: en un cuarto trasero, bajo llave, 20 computadoras \"minan\" bitcoins, actividad prohibida que se populariza como forma de hacer dinero y escapar a la inflación.\n\n En galpones, oficinas y casas, los venezolanos evaden el férreo control cambiario con criptomonedas. Algunos consiguen miles de dólares al mes con decenas de computadoras especiales; otros adaptan su ordenador personal para hacer unos 15 dólares en ese tiempo, 500.000 bolívares en el mercado negro (el salario mínimo es de 325.000).\n\n Randy Brito, fundador de BitcoinVenezuela.com, explicó que el crecimiento de estas transacciones en el país empezó en 2014, cuando arreció la crisis económica por la caída de los precios del petróleo, fuente de 96% de las divisas.\n\n La llamada \"minería\" consiste en operaciones matemáticas que verifican la validez de transacciones en bitcoins mediante poderosas computadoras. Las máquinas son recompensadas con bitcoins que pueden cambiarse por dólares, otras criptomonedas, giftcards o bolívares.\n\nVerónica, una empleada del edificio que pidió usar un nombre ficticio, dijo que su jefe instaló máquinas de bitcoin a principios de 2015, por recomendación del hijo de un socio. \"Hay máquinas que dan 800 dólares al mes (más de 26 millones de bolívares). Éstas dan menos porque son viejas. Están encendidas todo el día y cada cierto tiempo a mi jefe le llega un correo diciendo cuánto dinero ha hecho\", relató. \"Usted recibió 0,00847178 BTC (bitcoins) que valen 35,55 dólares\", decía el correo más reciente.\n\nUn bitcoin está valorado en 5.615,05 dólares. Tras observar esas ganancias, Verónica entró al mundo de las criptomonedas. \"Compré una máquina, una amiga otra y un muchacho 20. Las instalaremos en casa de una señora. La mía costó 2.280 dólares y produce entre 20 y 25 litecoins -otra criptomoneda- al mes. Cada litecoin se cambia por 46 dólares, son 920 dólares mensuales\", agregó.\n\n Huyendo de la inflación\n\nEn Venezuela, las personas se resguardan en bitcoins para protegerse de una inflación que podría rondar el 1.400% este año, según Ecoanalítica, y de la devaluación del bolívar -de 96% respecto al dólar-.\n\n\"Quien compre bitcoins con bolívares gana valor por el aumento del precio del bitcoin con respecto al dólar, y escapa a la inflación\", dijo Brito a la AFP. Eugenia Alcalá, fundadora de Dash Caracas -organización que educa sobre criptomonedas-, explicó que los venezolanos también las usan para comprar alimentos o medicamentos, en grave escasez.\n\n\"Quisiera tener acceso a mercados de otros países\", dijo a la AFP Liliana Carvajal, una administradora de 45 años que recibió una charla de Dash Caracas. Según el portal LocalBitcoins, en la última semana de septiembre en Venezuela se hicieron transacciones en bitcoins por casi 40.000 millones de bolívares (1,1 millones de dólares).\n\nBrito estima que unos 100.000 venezolanos \"están minando\", aunque aclara que es imposible saberlo con exactitud, pues muchos se protegen con servidores de otros países. \"La gente está como loca comprando máquinas. Se compran por internet en China y a veces hay que pagarle a alguien 1.000 dólares para que las compre, porque la página está colapsada\", explicó Verónica.\n\n Cada computadora cuesta entre 1.310 y 2.280 dólares. Adquirirlas no es el único obstáculo: \"Para que las dejen pasar (en la aduana) hay que pagar al menos 800 dólares\", afirmó a la AFP Simón, un empresario de 32 años que las importa.\n\nAl subsidiar la electricidad, explicó el economista Asdrúbal Oliveros, el gobierno socialista de Nicolás Maduro hace \"muy rentable 'producir' bitcoin\", actividad que consume mucha energía. En la oficina de Verónica cuatro aires acondicionados evitan que las máquinas se recalienten. \"En electricidad apenas gastamos 15.000 bolívares al mes (menos de 50 centavos de dólar en el mercado negro)\", indicó que agentes del servicio de inteligencia (Sebin), aseguró Simón, visitan casas o edificios en los que el consumo eléctrico se dispara inusitadamente. \"Si encuentran máquinas, detienen a los dueños o los extorsionan\", aseguró.",
