Sebelum kita mulai berjalan kamu sempat bertanya pada seorang porter yang sedang memasak mengenai  sumber air di dekat Kali Mati. Setelah yakin kamu mengerti dimana sumber air tersebut, seluruh rombongan mulai berjalan.\n\nSaat sampai di sebuah tanjakan yang harus dilalui seorang temanmu berbicara. “Tanjakan cinta, ayo siapa yang sedang jatuh cinta jangan lupa memikirkan pujaan hatinya dan jangan menoleh kebawah sebelum sampai diatas.” Kamu hanya tertawa bersama yang lain mendengar hal tersebut. Kemudian meraih tanganku dan menggenggamnya selama melalui tanjakanini. Aku tidak memikirkan siapapun saat berjalan, tetapi aku juga tidak menoleh ke belakang sebelum menginjakkan kaki di tanah datar. Setelah sampai di atas kamu memintaku untuk berbalik dan memandang Ranu Kumbolo. Keindahannya seakan menahanku untuk cepat-cepat mengalihkan pandangan dan pergi.\n\n“Mungkin ini sebabnya muncul mitos kita tidak boleh menoleh saat melewati tanjakan tadi Ranu Kumbolo seakan memanggil kita untuk kembali.” Ujarmu disampingku. Tanganmu tidak melepaskan tanganku, dan kita berdiri berdampingan mengatur nafas dan memandangi Ranu Kumbolo untuk terakhir kalinya. Sebelum kita turun kembali besok. Aku jatuh cinta pada danau ini, dan aku harus kembali lagi kesini untuk menghabiskan sepanjang hari di Ranu Kumbolo. Kuharap saat aku kembali kesini, kamu ada bersamaku. Keindahannya semakin sempurna dengan dirimu disini menggenggam tanganku.",
