      "body": "Hello Steemians!!\nWelcome to this post about smartphone displays.This post will tell you how and what exactly happens underneath those dazzling displays that we all have in our smartphones.\n\nBefore I begin there is a particular term which will be used all throughout this post which is **'capacitance'**-.So what exactly is **'capacitance'**? \n**Capacitance is defined as the ability of anything to hold a “charge”.**\n**When we shuffle your feet across a carpet then touch a metal object and experience a static shock, that’s our body experiencing capacitance. These are not the only layers in the resistive touchscreen, but we’ll focus on them for simplicity. \n\nWhen we touch or rather press the surface of a resistive touchscreen then the upper glass material bend due to the pressure of our fingers and touches the underlying layers and as a result of this touch a voltage is passed and a touch is registered.\nResistive touchscreens are not very popular for smartphone use anymore but they are still used in ATMS,car GPS screens.As in the initial smartphone days I have used quite a few resistive touchscreens and my observation was they are not very fluid to work with  and they require some amount of pressure to register a touch.\n\n-----------------------------------\n**Capacitive** touchscreens are what almost all the smartphone manufacturers use for their mobile devices .\n**Let me first tell you the screen you observe on  a smartphone is not just glass but a highly engineered material.**\nYou might have heard about **Corning's gorilla glass** which claims to be resistant to scratches.       "body": "Hi there !!!\n\nWelcome to the second blog of the  **Know Your Smartphone** series .\n\nToday's post is  about those memory and storage which runs  all the apps and media you throw at your smartphone and keeps you entertained  and helps you get through your day .\n![smartphone-storage3.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmZdVCoF7ugNtUKsp2LiP7Y2NtESMeeyw6tDeaBWJHxiWV/smartphone-storage3.jpg)\n(img- courtesy :http://clark.com)\n\nWell first of all,  lets get one thing clear , **memory** and **storage** are two different things. \n\nSo **memory** in case of a smartphone is primarily **RAM**  .Lets take an example here .Suppose in your smartphone you have some apps running.Now these apps cannot run if the data or the piece of information specific to each of them is not executed properly.This execution of the relevant piece of information  is done by the **RAM(Random Access Memory).**\nSo  if you have two smartphones where RAM management has been done the same and one of them has 2GB RAM and another one 3rd GB  RAM , then apps being run by the one having 3GB RAM will run more smoothly and it can run more apps than the one with 2GB smartphone .\n\nNow lets get to **Storage**\n\nWell for starters Storage devices are devices that store electronic data for long/short term retainment. \nNow there is your phone's internal memory and extra memory you can add to your phone (external memory ).\n\n**Internal memory**  is the manufacturer-installed storage space, usually 16, 32 or 64GB, where the operating system, pre-installed apps and other system software is installed.\n\n**External memory**  is the memory you add externally to your smartphone through micro SD cards .These days some smartphones do not give you an external SD card slot .If thats the case then you are stuck with your phone's internal storage unless your smartphone manufacturer has given you  some kind of  access to **cloud storage**.\n\nTo overcome the problem of reduced internal storage space, several high-end smartphones are sold with **free cloud storage accounts**. This could be 10, 20 or even 50GB. Whilst this is a nice extra, bear in mind that not all data and files can be saved to cloud storage (apps for example).
