      "body": "When I was about 5 years old, I remember going outside at night and seeing something that I later guessed could be a UFO. \n\nWe lived at the end of a road in rural northern Canada. It was so rural that we had neither electricity, phone or running water. it was just a farm at the end of a dirt road, completely isolated from civilization. \n\nOur house had a long field in front of it. We grew hay there for our horses. I think it was about 1.5 or 2 km long and 500 m wide, but I am not completely sure. The road ran alongside the field on the left side and the end was deep forest and other side were both deep forest. \n\nThat night I went outside for a pee and saw a very bright light in the treeline at the end of the field. I guessed it must be the headlights of a truck, but I didn't really think about the fact that nobody would be around there then and also that there was no road back there. I went in and told my mom and she came out and saw it too. \n\nI don't remember what happened after that. Did it disappear? Did we just go inside and forget about it? I have no idea. But in retrospect, maybe it was a UFO. She guesses it was, too.",

It is very noisy and traffic is quite bad. \n\nI have been out shopping for little things for my g/f for Valentine's Day. Technically, in Korea, Valentine's day is just for girls to give something to their b/f. However, I like to follow the western style of celebration. Therefore, I will give her a card, a chocolate and a bunch of vitamins. Yeah it is 2021, so vitamins are part of the celebration.",

Or maybe it was just playing in the background while I played with lego or drew pictures. \n\nI remember looking at the cover art. The front cover, with the man's balls obviously represented by the two balls, being evident to me even then. The the ball he was holding and his pose, which looked noble. Her pose was that of a faerie or elf. Very delicate and graceful. Mysterious and maybe a bit scary, in black. Bringing to mind Grimm's fairy Tales stories of magic balls, frogs and faerie princesses. \n\nThen the inner album art, as pictured above. I spent more time there.  Stevie Nicks, I think, in the forefront. So pretty, innocent  and sweet looking to me at that young age. She seemed to be my ideal girl at the time. Then the other woman with the bandana on her head seemed more like my mom. Who or what was she looking at? She looked like she might be mad or worried about something. The two other guys in the band were just like the men who surrounded me at the time, in the way that the bandana woman represented the women, or my mom. They just looked hairy, busy and serious. \n\nThen there was the drummer (I believe). Other than Stevie Nicks, he is the most intriguing character. Obvious from his facial expressions that he was an oddball. Large and hairy like the other men, but somehow childlike. The smaller pictures tell the story of social relationships and I could see that he ended up as the unloved outsider. I always felt sorry for him and wished he got the girl in the pic.  He represented me and my crushes of early elementary school. \n\nThis was the story of Fleetwood Mac's \"Rumours\", to me. . The music has stuck with me through the years though I am sometimes hesitant to listen to it as it brings back sad reminisces of love and opportunity lost. The album cover has stayed with me too, I like the asceticism of it. Simplicity and a clear representation of human interaction with a touch of paganism.       "body": "Had a dream in which I was rock climbing with my sister. She was and is better than I am, but she lost her confidence at the beginning of the route. Happily it was a cliff over deep water, so not dangerous. It was nice to see her in a dream.\n\nToday I went to the climbing gym and spent about 2 hours climbing. Good workout.",

      "body": "I brought a bunch of moss in from the woods last spring to keep with some tadpoles I was raising.\n\nIt was all because of COVID isolation. I needed new hobbies, things to keep me from lying on my bed and playing phone games. So I caught a bunch of tadpoles and salamander tadpoles. Actually the salamanders I rescued from their dried up streambeds rather than catching them.They were going to die anyway so I figured I could give them a second chance at life, in my laundryroom. And the tadpoles were supposed to be food for the aggressive salamander tadpoles. The salamanders did eat some of the traditional tadpoles, but others grew too quickly and were too active to be caught, so they survived.\n\nAs it turned out, there was one large black carpenter ant that came in on the moss I put in their aquarium. He was crawling around on it, so I didn't bother him. In fact, I rarely saw him.\n\nThe tadpoles turned into frogs or died. The little frogs I set free. The salamanders did the same. I kept water in the box for the moss, and amazingly the ant could still be seen from time to time, usually at night, walking slowly on the moss. He got a bit fuzzy, as if the moss was growing on him a bit. It could have been due to the humidity of summer. Fall came around and things dried up, and he was still there. I started putting a bit of honey on the moss every now and then. I think I saw him (or her) taking it once. I never saw him in the daytime, only at night. I guess he had made a little home in the moss. There were a a couple of pillbugs also living in there. \n\nThis winter a friend gave me some tetras and I put them in the box after adding more water. The water disturbed the ant and he started crawling around on the moss. Thinner now, but cleaner looking. Tetras had babies, I put some avocado seeds in the moss to see if they'd sprout. The ant is still there, I saw him last night. \n\nI have taken some pics and vids but the resolution is not good. I googled how long ants survive in isolation and the answer was just a few days. It has been about eight months now that this ant has been living alone. It's quite amazing and I am always happy to see him (or her). I imagine the ant has a a symbiotic relationship with the moss. Or maybe he has been taken over by spores or something and is a zombie programmed to tend the moss. He's a slow mover and seems to rest dormant for days at a time. I leave honey and fish food every now and then. My apartment has a few centipedes, the tetras and my cat but as of yet, my castaway ant lives on.",

      "body": "A dream of being stalked by a team of hitmen.  It is a very snowy city setting. Behind an old wooden house. They are lying in wait for me near a derelict car. I figure out what's going on because of tracks in the snow or maybe condensation? Anyway they seem to give up and leave. \n\nI enter the house from the back door. I hear the front door open. One of them has come in with a gun. They had seen me on a CCTV. Panicking I run around the house as he looks in the house for me and then comes out the front. \n\nI am running down an icy hill in the city, tall trees on either side. He is behind me and maybe shooting already. It looks dire.\n\nAt this point, I gain lucidity and realize I can just fly to escape him. I do so, taking bigger and bigger steps until I am airborne. I fly up past the streetlights and the grasping branches of the trees and into the night sky. It is satisfying, but not \nas much so as other  flying dreams I have had in the past.",

While it is warming up (its a slow old desktop), he quickly cycles through his social media on his cell phone. He also checks google news sites that he follows and has a quick read of the headlines. All stressful news. \n\nThen he gets a podcast running on his computer and makes breakfast. While breakfast is cooking, he checks the sports scores from last night one more time. Checks his fantasy teams. \n\nSuddenly he remembers something he forgot! He did not check his dating apps. He quickly jumps up and grabs his phone from his bed and goes through those. Likes girls. Ignores or blocks the scammers and fakes.  Now breakfast is ready.\n\nWhile eating breakfast in front of his computer he cues up something else on youtube. Backpack reviews. He plays one silently while still running his podcast in another tab. Breakfast is finished, he washes the dishes. Sends a couple of good morning messages on his chatting apps. Tommy lies down on his bed to play a game on his phone while listening to the podcast. 100 minutes passes and the podcast ends. Tommy gets up and checks the computer again, cues up another podcast suggested to him and heads back to his bed. He does a quick porn search. Types in the words that used to bring up fun results. Nothing new or exciting. He feels almost no sexual energy. It is slightly disconcerting, but not worth dwelling on. \n\nTommy gets up again and does stretches. Washes his face, does the dishes. Cleans a bit. It's already almost 11 AM and he should think about going out and doing something. Writing something, studying something. \n\nTommy is 50 years old. He has a girlfriend and an easy job. She works much more than he does, so he only meets her on weekends.\n\nHe feels a bit worried about his life. Social interaction. He feels like he is in a perpetual state of hibernation. He is specifically worried about his mind. He rarely uses it actively and more worryingly, he rarely feels like he should. \n\nIt wasn't that long ago that he read on a regular basis, took classes and exercised creativity. Took trips to other countries to pursue his hobbies. \n\nNow he is capable of extending this morning routine through the day. After all, there is a pandemic going on. And one day leads to the next.",

      "body": "A dream of going to the beach. I could find tiny snakes that were sticking their heads out of the sand. I tried to catch one, but it was hard to do. Of course they would burrow under the sand when threatened. I was scooping out the sand but couldn't catch it. Then i saw one in a tide pool. It was more of a big worm than a snake. I could see though, that its mouth was filled with very white teeth. They were not sharp snake teeth, but blocky misshapen square teeth of different sizes. Quite ugly. \n\nIt turns out that the snakes bite is extremely poisonous, so maybe it is a good thing that I never caught one. \n\n\nA dream in which I was going to move into my grandparents house. Moving the curtains in the basement, I could find a door to the outside that I didn't know was there before. It made it the idea of living there so much more attractive. My only private way in and out.",

      "body": "A dream about trying to raise a mouse. It was blind and not tame. It kept on escaping and running around the room. I had trouble trying to corral it as I was afraid it might bite me. It escaped under the door and I had to run outside to look for it. It was night so everything was dark and shadows. I looked around for it, but it seemed to be hiding somewhere. The only way I could hope to see it was by standing still and concentrating on any kind of movement in my field of vision. I did find it this way when it moved a bit. I caught it and brought it back in but it escaped again soon after. Then I woke up. \n\nIn a war zone, I was fleeing on a bicycle. Sometimes running with it, sometimes riding it on a muddy road. I am being chased by soldiers that want to kill me. I find a nice stretch of downhill road and feel I might escape. I come around a corner and am blocked by a jeep with one soldier in it. I slide and bump into him. He grabs me and I try to escape, I feel I might because of the mud, which makes my body slippery. But it is taking too long and the others are coming. I wake up.",

Not horrible, low quality, but the other horrible. I just came to this realization while looking around in a used bookstore and coming across “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More” By Roald Dahl. \n\nWhen I was a grade school kid I must have read the story “The Swan” in this book countless times. It is the story of bullying in rural post-war England and climaxes with the bullied boy being forced to climb a tree at gunpoint with the wings of a recently killed swan strapped to his arms. He is forced to “fly” by the older boys holding the gun. He does so, flying to freedom as Daedalus incarnate, to bask in the sun’s love. Even at that age, I caught the subtext.\n\nOther horrible stories that made an impression on me at a young age were those of an anthology by Zenna Henderson . These included a story about a vacuum like creature that sucked anything that made a sound until they was drained and lifeless, and the story of a nameless shapeless blackness in a hole that would leave anything that ventured near it bloody and frozen. \n\n\n![491887.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTXG6EfaSBfqPdk3p2qJLzkbTW9zbVgZ16EyAWnHjrDHy/491887.jpg)\n\n\nI was introduced to HP Lovecraft around this time, but found the writing too dense to get into, although I did read the story about the journey into terror at the south pole from front to end. Like a horrible yet less interesting version of “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” by Jules Verne; it was written long ago and  the writing did not make an impression on me like that of the previously mentioned works.  More impressive was the shocking cover art.\n\nAt the latter part of this period of my life, I started reading Stephen King, starting with “Cujo”. Impressive were the vivid descriptions of the mad dog’s slavering jowls. This was followed by “Jaws”, although to be honest, it did not have much of an effect on me. \n\nFinally, throughout this period the graphic and shocking artwork of horror comics and Heavy Metal magazines were always present. Scenes of carnage, blood and grotesque mutations hover at the edges of my memories of this time. \n\nNow here I am holding the Roald Dahl book. But why bother buying it? I already know the whole book front to back. Wait, it includes the nice story, “The Boy Who Talked to Animals”. I will buy it.",

      "body": "When I was a little kid I fantasized and wished for so many things. I was never satisfied from the age of about five on. Maybe it was because of meeting other kids at school who had more. I am not sure. \n\nEarly fantasies involved having my own home game console. This was something my mom would never go for we did not even have a TV or running water for the longest time. My fantasy did not stop there. Not only would I have a game system, but I would be in some kind of small motorhome hurtling through space. All alone and free to play games for eternity! \n\nLater, in middle school, when I first tried alcohol it was hard to come by. I used to wish I had a hip flask that would never empty. In this way I would be able to drink as much as I wanted for as long as I wanted for my whole life!\n\nAround that time and onwards until now, I started fantasizing about being rich. Discovering gold, winning the lottery, buying bitcoin when.. \n\nOther wishes have come and gone. Having black hair, changing my name, changing my parents, being able to turn invisible or freeze time, being able to go back in time, everyone in the world disappearing except me and a girl I liked, immortality and so forth. \n\nI realize that my wishes are all double edged swords, and not even thinly veiled ones. I am so naive. Travel through space alone and go insane playing dated computer games, die of alcohol poisoning. Become rich and realize it didn't help. And so forth. \n\nWhat is the lesson? Be happy with who you are and what you have. Learn from your choices and experience. Be thankful for every challenge.  Feel the gift of not having wishes come true.",

Xenophobia, economic depressions, a population compliant to loss of rights. These could be three main things that need to be checked off before starting a war.  I believe they are currently checked off quite emphatically. \n\nThen, consider what the positive outcome of this situation could be other than war. China looks to come out unscathed, while the US could be wrecked economically. How does America come out as a winner without war? \n\nFurther and finally, what is the US political situation? They have an election coming up with no viable future president. Will history see Trump as Neville Chamberlain? And if so, who will be Churchill?  \n\nInteresting times. I see this ending in a Watchtower cover-esque utopia, or an Orewellian dystopia. War could put us in the latter or maybe somewhere in between.",

      "body": "To all my students past and present, hope you are doing well!\n\nI am fine and have been teaching classes online from my apartment for the last two weeks. I see this as a positive experience and a chance to learn something new! I have to say, it is nice to be home already when I hit \"end session\"! On the other hand, I feel like a swimmer in deep water when I am teaching through a computer camera and mic, off a satellite in space and then back down to students nowhere near me and in some cases, in completely different countries! I appreciate my students' manners and consideration in this situation and hope they see it as a unique learning experience too!\n\nA negative part of teaching at home is sitting down so much. I need to get more exercise and have been taking the stairs rather than elevator as much as possible. I live on the second floor. (Just kidding, it is the 12th.)\n\nPeople panic, point fingers, worry and this is all reflected through the internet like a giant mirror. All we can do is be clean and safe ourselves and try to cheer other people up.\n\nNow the cherry blossoms are blooming outside my apartment. When I first saw this three days ago, I thought, \"How could they bloom at a time like this!\" However, they kept blooming in spite of everything, and now the trees are heavy with them. They are as lovely now as they are every year, and like every year, they will be gone too soon. Life goes on.",

In this house the father takes it upon himself to feed on one of the other residents, killing him/her or at least gnawing off a limb or two. However this victim is never one of his close relatives. Always someone distant. Other relatives allow this to happen because at least it isn't one of them he is eating and they are also thriving, so why rock the boat? \n\nHowever, isn't it just a matter of time before he turns on every one of his relatives?  As a Canadian, I live in a country that stands by or even helps when the US decides to turn functional nations into some form of hell on earth or at least starve them into submission. This is usually in the name of democracy or at least regime change. Eventually, Canada, as the younger cousin of the US will also be eaten. We are just too complacent to see it because right now, \"it isn't me\".",
