This has opened up free money transfer to many developing parts of the world including the Philippines, India and Africa.\n\nCrowdfunding for Global Start- ups\nThe crowdfunding industry is predicted to surpass $1 trillion in the next decade, but unfortunately it is not as accessible as it may appear. Major crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter cut out most of the developing world and charge high fees.\n\nWith the help of blockchain, it is now possible to make crowdfunding free and accessible to all. Acorn Collective is doing exactly this – using an Ethereum (EC-20) token-based economy to crowdfund crowdfunding from the start.\n\nThis model of crowdfunding removes the commercial pressures of a project having to meet its funding goal for the platform to make money, and therefore allows more accessibility to any project regardless of its nature or location.\n\nMicro-Finance\nMicro-finance is a method of financing entrepreneurs and start-ups that don’t have access to traditional capital such as banks and investors. It is estimated to be a $100 billion industry with 200 million clients worldwide, but unfortunately still isn’t accessible to many parts of the developing world.\n\nSince the blockchain doesn’t require a financial intermediary to process transactions, it is ideal for micro-finance for people who don’t have access to banking.       "body": "A JP Morgan internal document has surfaced that highlights the risks of the crypto space, but, surprisingly, it also acknowledges that cryptos are here to stay.\n\n![J.P. Morgan (1).jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmf91XvqbixyifExt3Yqhg4cewjvVPZgfyPjpa9xQVZ2PV/J.P.%20Morgan%20(1).jpg)\n\nUp until January, JP Morgan’s CEO Jamie Dimon had been extremely negative on just about everything related to cryptos, especially Bitcoin.\n\nSo imagine the surprise to those who’d heard him deem the space to be a bubble when they learned that his staff had crafted an internal document that acknowledges that digital currencies are here to stay.\n\nThe document surfaced over the weekend when a writer at Zero Hedge published it. He dubbed it the Bitcoin Bible, and news of the 71-page document quickly went viral. In it are what the writer calls “excruciating detail on everything from the technology of cryptocurrencies, to their applications and challenges.”\n\nHere we’ll discuss some of the highlights.\n\n\n\nAdmitting when one’s wrong\nFew can forget the damning comments Dimon made about Bitcoin in the fall of last year. The head of the largest bank in the U.S. even went so far as to question the intelligence of Bitcoin buyers.\n\nHe said:\n\n\"If you're stupid enough to buy it, you'll pay the price for it one day.\"\n\nIn January, however, the banking guru, who’s one of the most respected in the business, seemed to muster the courage to admit that he may have been a bit off kilter with his earlier comments.\n\nTo Fox Business, Dimon, in reference to his previous comments on Bitcoin, said:\n\n“I regret making them.”\n\nHe said this right around the time Bitcoin had started to make its precipitous slide from the $17,000 price where it had been trading, to the $8,700 price it stands near now.\n\nHere to stay\nWhile its leader bashed cryptos, and expressed extreme reluctance about acknowledging the legitimacy of the space, this internal report shows how JP Morgan saw it could resist no longer.\n\nTake this excerpt, for example. Note, that in the report, cryptocurrencies are referred to as CCs.\n\n“CCs are unlikely to disappear completely and could easily survive in varying forms and shapes among players who desire greater decentralization, peer-to-peer networks and anonymity, even as the latter is under threat. The underlying technology for CCs could have the greatest application in areas where current payments systems are slow, such as across borders, as payment, reward tokens or funding systems for other Blockchain innovations and the Internet of Things, as well as parts of the underground economy.”\n\nWhile acknowledging that cryptos aren’t going way, the bank still sees good old-fashioned fiat money as king. In the “bible,” it’s state:\n\n“In addition, we find that local legal tender money tends to be a natural monopoly with only extreme hyperinflation leading people to seek out a monetary alternative. To add, we do not find that CCs are currently meeting the standards of what constitutes money as the huge volatility of CC has made use of it as a unit of account impractical.”\n\nAlthough cryptos won’t just go away, there will be pushback from banks. The drafters of the document insinuated that central banks and governments are possessive of their currencies, and will be hard-pressed to relinquish control of it.\n\n “…given the huge returns from running a central bank (seignior age), governments will be quite possessive of their legal tender role and will likely put up a fight if CCs were to gain broader traction domestically.”\n\nInvestment portfolios may need some crypto\nAs you know, last week was one of the most volatile for stock markets around the world. In the U.S., for example, the Dow fluctuated wildly from being at least 500 points down, or up, in a day.\n\nThose whiplash-causing movements made some investors start to rethink their investment portfolio holdings.\n\nThe Bitcoin Bible examines the potential role of cryptos in terms of offering diversification in a global portfolio, given both their high returns over the past several years and their low correlation with the major asset classes, offsetting some of the cost of high volatility.\n\nThe document states:\n\n“If past returns, volatilities and correlations persist, CCs could potentially have a role in diversifying one’s global bond and equity portfolio. But in our view, that is a big if given the astronomic returns and volatilities of the past few years.”\n\nThe Bitcoin Bible cautions that with the Dow and other major markets being so volatile right now, it’s not the time to use cryptos as a hedge.\n\n“In the current market conditions, we do not believe that an allocation to cryptocurrencies as insurance should be a portfolio’s main or only hedge. Note that even though CCs have improved risk-adjusted returns over the past several years, they have not prevented portfolio drawdown during periods of acute market stress, like the equity flash crashes of August 2015 and February 2018.”\n\nOne of the crypto areas Dimon has championed is Blockchain. Here’s an excerpt from the document about the cutting-edge technology.\n\n“Cryptocurrencies are both a new technology — Blockchain — and a new currency (many new ones). The new shape and form of the CC market in the future will likely ultimately depend on what economic value they are perceived to add. Robinhood is already valued at over a billion dollars, closing in on 1.5 billion as of this writing, having recently announced Robinhood Crypto.  \n\nAlso read: Internet Pioneer Who Influenced Assange & Snowden Dead at 70\n\nJay-Z Goes Crypto\nShawn Carter, 48, better known as Jay-Z, owns an entertainment-centric management company, Roc Nation: talent agency, concert promotion, music production, record label, film production, and even music publishing are among its calling. The 21 Grammy-winning, 100 million records sold mogul can now add crypto to that list.\n\nIn Spring of last year, Mr. Carter announced a subsidiary, Arrive Venture Capital, under his Roc Nation banner (itself owned by Live Nation Entertainment, which in turn is owned by Liberty Media) to focus on startups.       "body": "In Todays News:\n\nBitcoin clocked six-day highs above $9,000 over the weekend, but a long-term bull market revival may not be on the cards, yet.\n\nHaving clocked a high of $9,070.64 on Saturday, prices again fell back below $8,000 briefly on Sunday before climbing again. CoinDesks's Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) was last seen at $8,772.\n\nThe cryptocurrency has appreciated by 9.70 percent in the last 24 hours, as per data source CoinMarketCap. Bitcoin (BTC) is also close to 40 percent above last week's low of $5,947.40.\n\nSo has the cryptocurrency bottomed out?\n\nBTC has a history of rallying to fresh record highs after the relative strength index (RSI) has bottomed out at, or below, 30.00 (oversold region). However the daily chart throws some doubt on that pattern today.\n\nDaily chart\n\n\nThe above chart (prices as per Bitfinex) shows:\n\nThroughout the uptrend from Aug 2015 to Dec 2017, the RSI fell to (or below) 30.00 on four occasions (marked by circles). And, in March 2017, the RSI bottomed out just above 30.00. Each time, BTC went on to clock fresh record highs.\nThe RSI has never formed a double bottom or turned sideways around 30.00. It has always been a \"v\" shaped recovery for the RSI.\nThe situation today looks similar. The RSI has recovered sharply from below 30.00 and BTC is up close to 40 percent from lows below $6,000. So, going by the historical pattern, BTC should rise to fresh record highs above $20,000.\n\nHowever, the weekly chart indicates it will be easier said than done.\n\nWeekly chart\n\n\nThe above chart shows:\n\nAt no time were the bears strong enough to push the RSI below 53.00 (strong support marked by a horizontal line). Moreover, the 80.00–90.00 range has marked the tops, while the 53.00–55.00 support zone has marked all the pullbacks in the bull market (August 2015 to December 2017).\nHowever, the support zone of 53.00–55.00 has been breached this time and, as of writing, the RSI is seen below 50.00 (bearish territory).\nFurther, the 5-week moving average (MA) and 10-week MA witnessed a bearish crossover in late January and are now sloping downwards in favor of the bears.\nHence, the historical pattern may not occur this time round. That said, BTC seems to have found a short-term bottom, as indicated by the sharp recovery from the lows around $6,000.\n\nView\nBTC could test the $10,000 mark in the short-run as the RSI on the 1-hour and 4-hour chart is rising and well short of the overbought region (above 70.00), but a rally to record highs (in line with the historical pattern) looks unlikely.\nThe cryptocurrency may find it hard to hold on to gains above $10,000, courtesy of the bearish setup on the weekly chart.
