      "body": "What's in a name, really at the heart of it, the names we are given have a lot more influence over one's life than one might think.  My parents, being quasi hippies contemplated naming me Chord or Sterling, thank god the acid wore off before I was born.  After realizing those names would result in a life time of beatings and loneliness they settled on Damien, a reasonable name I suppose, but alas I was born on the day the Omen was released and my mother being a woman of moderate faith could not name her first born son after the spawn of Satan himself.  So for nearly a month I was listed in the hospital records as Baby.  I should take a second to declare that I am not one for social media, not that I'm opposed to it necessarily although it does seem to discourage human contact to a certain degree.  I do have a facebook page but I only got it so I could get free bananas on Minion Rush.  I tweeted once when a rabid raccoon trapped me in my house, but nobody came to my aid.  I possibly was on LinkedIn when I was doing investment banking in Silicon Valley.  However, over the past 2+ decades I would classify my general behavior as medium shady and as such it seemed to me that broadcasting my daily activities would be nothing more than a good way to get arrested so I avoided it altogether.   Anyhow, back to the name game, as life progressed nicknames galore have been floated my way.  My mother calls me Pom, the youngest elephant in Babar's family, my favorite books as an adorable little boy.  Most of my friends call me \"D\", but my best friend calls me Ddogg.  My golfing buddies call me D-shin (they tagged me with that during the early I-Rod days).  My college friends call me hornet (I developed a very brief love of Mickey's grenades my freshman year and opted for a tattoo of the Mickey's hornet on my back but the nickname actually found its way to me after dosing several hundred students at the University of Arizona, but that's another story).  My partners in Santa Cruz call me dizzle.  My girlfriend called me an ass hole last night and I'm not expecting her to be calling much at all in near future but you never know ;)  I have one friend that calls me Domer (after delivering a failed attempt to describe the architectural style during the Renaissance in sophomore English at Robert Louis Stevenson (my high school, a boarding school in Pebble Beach, CA).  However, my given name is Darian.  There aren't too many of us, I met a 4 year old girl with the same name at my youngest daughter's pre-school once and there's a marshal at Spanish Bay golf course with the same name too.  Oh, and Bruce Willis's daughter in \"The Last Boy Scout\" was named Darian as well.  However, it is fairly safe to say that there aren't too many of us out there.  I'll never find a mini license plate with my name on it and in my kindergarten Spanish class the teacher opted to call me Dadio because there was no Spanish version of Darian that she knew of.  I'm not terminally unique but I suppose I do like having a name that has a little more flare than Steve or Bob (not that there's anything wrong with Steve or Bob).  What do I do, I do a lot of things, I golf, I partied hard for a long time, I caddy, I gamble, I travel, I used to rave a lot, I build spec houses, I used to be an investment banker, I am presently on felony probation (although that ends in a week or so), I've been arrested a lot (I'd say that as far as Stevenson Alumni go I might have the record for total arrests...13 times that I can remember), I've been in 18 car accidents (sadly sober during every single one), I have two beautiful daughters and a pretty hot ex-wife.  I have a smoking hot girlfriend although as of now that is questionable relationship status (free advice, worth exactly what you paid for it, but in general it has worked out poorly when I call my significant other a dumb f#^%ing c*nt, in my defense I hadn't slept in 3 days so I was a little testy, but I regret it at this point and I am an asshole, when you f*%k up you gotta own it).  What will I be writing about, I have a lot of crazy, fairly pointless, but entertaining stories, I'm pretty tech savvy so I'll probably post a few things there, I majored in philosophy (definitely in the top 5% of pointless college degrees), golf is life or it was at one point so they'll be some golf stuff, possibly travel, I'm not too sure exactly, what I won't be doing is tweeting about rabid raccoons (hopefully).
