      "body": "I saw Ike today. You do remember him, don’t you?\n\nIt was at a client’s office . I was on the verge of sealing that deal I have been on for months , when the door opened and there he was on  a gray tee that hugged his well toned torso and a black jeans trousers, looking like sin. For a moment, time stopped. I was lost in mid sentence. My heart was pounding and my hands were wet with sweat. If he noticed his effect on me, I couldn’t tell. His face was unreadable.\n\n“ Hi Sara”, he greeted casually.\n\nThat voice and body, too much aphrodisiac. For a moment I remembered how his voice deepens sultrily with passion, the feel of that toned body on mine and the caresses of those calloused hands on my butt. I blushed and managed a shaky smile.\n\n “H…i I..ke”, I stuttered.\n\nMy hands were trembling, I leaned over and gripped the edge of the boardroom table, in a bid to regain control. He politely apologized to the room for being late and resumed a seat at the far end of the table directly opposite to where I stood. He looked so casual. I felt the anger rise in my throat. I was angry with myself for being so affected by his presence.\n\n“ Can’t you see he doesn’t even feel the same way fool”, I silently reprimanded myself.\n\nI regained composure and continued with my presentation making sure not to look in his direction which was a tad  difficult  since he sat just opposite. I went through the rest of my presentation without much ado, using my anger as motivation.\n\nI was out of the door a few moment later after the documents of partnership were signed and packed away in my work satchel. I politely declined an invitation to  lunch by the manager on the excuse of a having a headache ,which wasn’t entirely true. I couldn’t just stand being in the same room with him, but not before I glanced his way. He was conversing with the fair beautiful lady seated  beside him. He said something and the both laughed. Her generous bosom heaved with laughter. My heart constricted.\n\n“ Alright Sara, you better leave before you murder someone”.\n\nWith head held high and a subtle catwalk, I left the room.  \n\nI didn’t realize I ran, down the flights of stairs of a three storey building on heels! I only stopped when I got to the garage. My feet hurt. I slowly removed my shoes, opened my car, threw them in, flopped on the driver’s seat, with my head leaning on the steering. I knew I was overreacting and it annoyed me in no small measure that I still felt something for him.\n\n“Hurrying down the stairs at such a speed is record breaking and on heels? Shouldn’t you be representing Nigeria in the  Commonwealth Games ?” a familiar voice said, every word dripped sarcasm.\n\n  I was startled. I swore a profanity under my breath and narrowed my eyes at him.\n\n“One is tempted to think you were running from something or someone”, he concluded.\n\nI was boxed.\n\n“Maybe I was,” I bit back acidly. “ Considering you wasted no time in coming out  I’ll probably think you some Prince Charming coming to the rescue of a hapless lady but then from what we know, you’d rather grow a tail .”\n\nFor a moment his lips thinned in a straight line, his eyes were angry. Somehow it almost felt almost ecstatic that I could rouse a reaction from him, but it was gone the next moment that I wondered if I only imagined it. He smirked.\n\n“ I wondered what kept you in a relationship with such an epitome of callousness as myself for seven months, ” he ridiculed.\n\nI hissed contemptuously , banged my door, kicked the ignition and drove out of the garage. \n\nFrom the side mirror  I watched as the smirk grew into a grin, then a wide one. \nI hit the brakes and drove backward to the spot where he stood.\n\n“ You know,” I started. “ I stayed that long with you because somehow I hoped that the sex would get better and I wouldn’t have to keep faking orgasms but then it’s so much to expect from an average man, isn’t it ?” I smirked back and drove off as colour drained from his face.\n\nPetty.\n\nOf course, I knew better but he wasn’t going to have the last word. I smiled to myself.\n\nSuddenly,  it struck me, he noticed my shoes. Yes he noticed my shoes!\nRight there, I regretted saying that to him.",

But it frightened her not, not like the last thing time. The memory came again, of this same place, of someone . she fought it and concentrated on the wave. Something about it seemed purifying. She waited as the wave leaped and crashed over her and receded. She was wet and tasted the salt in her tongue, more from the sea than her tears as she swam back to the sandy part of the beach, her  Ankara bikini molded to her body. \n\nShe felt the stares and the catcalls, she didn’t care in the least. She stopped caring. For a long time. It was Saturday and the beach was  rowdy . She wished she had many days more, she would have come on a week day. She needed less noise, people. \nSlowly, she cat walked toward the wooden relaxation spots where her friend sat with her duffel bag. She retrieved a smaller bag from the bag and retreated back to the beach to pick shells.\n\nThe shells she picked were tiny, of different colours  and shapes with pin size holes in them. She walked on , bending and picking, pass a little boy and his sister making sand castles with their brightly coloured plastic containers and miniature shovels. The girl looked up and smiled at her. She smiled back and offered them some shells and cowries. She watched as the gleefully ran to the wooden building, to show their mum, who smiled and waved at her. She waved back and continued.\n\nShe saw a man reach to the wet sand and pick something. She looked away, another shell lover or painter maybe. She sighed and faced the sea. A huge wave rolled toward the shore. Some of the swimmers waddled out of the water to the beach, laughing and saying something about drowning. She took out her phone and took a shot of the wave. It was a good one. She carefully placed it in the a small purse inside the small bag she carried. \nA horse rider approached her and asked if she wanted a ride. She shook her head and moved away from him. The last time she was here, she had witnessed how callous they can be. She fought the memory again. He followed her, trying to persuade her.\n\n“ She say she no want, na by force,” a voice bellowed, behind the horse. \n\n“ See me see wahala oo”, she agreed, spreading her hands.\n The owner of the voice was the man she had seen earlier. She recognized him from the yellow basket ball top he wore.\n\n“ Senior man, na the fun be that nah. How person go come beach, im no go ride horse, you check am”, the horse rider argued.\n\n She humph.\n\n“ My friend shift jor”, he snorted and the rider backed away, murmuring something in Yoruba. She asked what he said, he interpreted and they both laughed. They shook hands as he introduced himself . She smiled as he walked with her.\n\n“ So, are you trying to get my attention as he said?” she asked, referring to what the horse rider said. He laughed .\n\n“  It’s true then. He was right”, she smiled.\n\n“Maybe. I noticed you in the water. You looked great standing there but for a minute I was afraid ”.\n\n“Why…”, she shook her head.\n\n“ You looked quite... I can’t find a word for it.”\n\nSilence.\n\nThey walked together along the shoreline, pass  the wooden relaxation centers. The music was blaring from the speakers in one on the centers. A party. They seemed to be having fun. They walked on ,to the other side of the beach, pass the rocky place. He broke the silence. Asked her about herself. She made a joke, they laughed. To a passerby, they looked a picture of lovers.\n\n“ I’d like to say something ”,\n\n“  Me too”, she replied.\nThey laughed\n\n“ I….” , he began but she interrupted him with a wave.\n\n They stopped and looked at each other.\n\n“.. I know, I know it’s rude but I don’t like beating around the bush.” \n\n He nodded expectantly.\n\n“ I might be wrong but I feel you might be interested in me”, she continued.\n\n He nodded again.\n\n“ … And you would probably ask me out on a date or something, which would be nice. But just to let you know, my heart craves for just one man,” she swallowed and paused , “  until it stops I can’t take on another, I hope you understand. ”\n\nHe heaved and nodded and they parted.       "body": "I am of the school of thought that there are no flat rates in this world. Nobody owes you the obligation to fix their prices. \n\nYesterday I walked past two guys selling \"shoe shine\" foam sprayers. The mechanism is a can of foam spray that lathers on your shoes and gives it a shine after you brush it. They said they would sell it 9€ (about 3k Naira). The guy saw I was reluctant; intentionally of course, then he said he would give me two for 17€ or 9€ for one.\n\nI looked at him and frowned as if I was thinking. He said okay I should take one for 8€. I smiled and told him I had to go withdraw but could he give me two for 15€ . That's how I bought the items he priced at between 16€-18€ at just 15€ for two. I was not offended. I simply negotiated.\n\nThose days when my Mom would take me along to the market, iyaloja would say efo is 1000 naira and my mom would reply with, ko gba 100 naira ni? Iyaloja will now start squeezing face. \n\nI think if I were to pick between the evils of capitalism and other more \"socialist,\" ideals, I would go for free competition. Everyone has a duty first to themselves to survive and then profit before they have a duty to consider your feelings. \n\nSome people say businesses and service providers should announce their flat rates before asking people to negotiate. I say No! You have a right to negotiate while I have a right to my prices. \n\nA can get the same thing B bought for a million for FREE. I mean absolutely free. The seller owes you nothing. \n\nYou owe yourself the duty to understand the market, know the prices and negotiate as tactfully as possible. \n\nLife is basically about negotiations. No one would aim to lose business profit just because they are considerate. People like this should not even be in business at all. They should open a charity or work in the church. \n\nEven church these days. A lady Pastor recently announced that only idiots tell people to not pay tithes. See it's your money and it's her church. If you don't like paying, don't go there. Let's say you want to go to church and the cost is higher in one branch go to another one and patronize. Na joke I dey oo.\n\nTwo people who freak me out in this life:\n 1. Those who get offended about price tags being high.\n 2. Those who get offended when you negotiate to the barest minimum. \n\nThey freak me out because it's these kind of people who always want government to control what people do. They want a government that takes from the rich to give to the poor. They are easily lied to because they think the world should be fair.\n\nThey are the kind of people that believe in \"the patient dog...\" and they will vote in Buhari for another round of pseudo \"Robin Hood.\"\n\nOpportunity comes to the courageous. If you have a need for a service or product then don't expect people to give you for their lowest price. The culture of charity over profit is a damaging one. It ruins the very fabric of enterprise and venture. It's deceitful, it makes people lazy and entitled. Anyone who has gone through the labour of acquiring a skill or knowledge that you don't have, has every right to price it whatever way they want. \n\nThe right you have is negotiation. One of the most under-discussed softskill of our time is negotiations. Most CEOs and top enterprenuers seem to do nothing other than negotiations. Learn this skill, hone it, detach your emotions and sentiments from it and watch your business profit spike. This advice is only for young starters like myself, the big guns may prove me wrong.\n\nPS: this was meant to be a short post. Pick the points relevant to you.",

No , nobody did, but let me tell you tonight ..\" he gasped for breath and inched closer .\n\nI was nervous as to what will follow .\nHe looked deep in my eyes and continued \" Your eyes holds words  , and I can see that they are rhyming perfectly and there's poetry floating within your eyes to be read but I am amazed that till now, no poetry reader came across you and dared to peep in to just arrange the words and steal away the poems written there \" he cupped my face in his hands, now .\n\nMy face went red ,lips dry , heartbeat at it's fastest . \nNobody ever came this close to me ,nobody ever actually said such beautiful words to me .\nI wanted him to keep on saying , my heart felt thirsty for more ,for the first time .\n\nHe kept looking at me and continued \"No one ever told you, that they actually know that \nyou weave poetry and stories out of real pain and not just mere words and that each word from them holds a piece of you and never ever the screen remains dry when you type these words direct from your soul \"\nI closed my eyes ,because I couldn't understand how can someone really know that unintentionally I always add flavor of my tears to the things I write and that they all come from within my heart .\n\n\"Nobody ever told you this right?\" He asked \nI nodded my head in no,my throat was too dry to speak up.\n\n\"But do you know , you are the story written by God with utmost care and with the most fragnant ink. \nYou are a story, and those who have just read your works are yet to read the real Story, that is you; , your existence.\nEvery piece of you says something and that's what gives it a magical touch\"\n\nI had started smiling a little at his words and the way he was saying, it was melting my heart.\n\n\" So have you read it , yet ?\" I asked shyly looking down \n\"Or how else do you think I know about each chapter , each poem, the ones within your eyes and the ones within your pain \" he said rubbing my hands with his .\n\n\"This story is incomplete, but now that it has a reader, it can be completed , maybe\" I said and we started walked around the lake, trying to see the shadow of a new beginning .",
