And I’m not excluding myself, in fact that was one of the highlights of my school experience.\n\nIt got me thinking, why is there such a presence of piss-take attitude with a lurking shadow of strict regime and threats of punishment in most schools? (or at least the one I experienced). As I remember it the control of the school was totally fear driven, rather than a helpful mentor to show you around, the head teacher held the status of a man who ate naughty children for dinner.\n\nAnyway, I concluded that children misbehave because they are bored; they are forced to sit in a dull classroom studying dull subjects, or at least in a dull manner. Hence they feel the need to entertain themselves, which we then punish them for. This is quite an absurdity to me, it’s like not taking your dog for a walk all day and then punishing it for laying a turd on your carpet. Not only this but the method of punishment is also rather strange to me; as a reaction to classroom confinement children express outbursts of restlessness, our reaction to this is to place them in yet further confinement, i.e. detention. This is like trying to cure obesity with a diet of big macs, surely it can only further the problem.\n\nI struggle to see the logic of such actions and threats, how do we expect people to react when we place them into such a rigid structure of forced learning. If anything this shows that we’re not robots, surely we should be celebrating the fact that we’re human beings and we require more than a classroom environment to quench our thirst for life.",

      "body": "So all week I've been looking forward to this puff pastry pizza thing that my girlfriend makes. I knew this pesto, goats cheese infusion made me super happy, but I wasn't quite aware to what extent. \n\nHaving some left over, we quickly boxed it up and headed into town for our church service, with the intention of giving it away to someone in need. We walked passed a guy on the way over who looked like he might appreciate some pizza. But to our surprise, he persisted that he had plenty of food and that it would be a \"waste\" if we gave it to him. \n\nThat being a humbling experience in itself, we continued on, hoping to bump into someone who'd appreciate some food. As we were nearing our destination, a bloke called out \"Spinners, two for two quid!\" (I have no idea what he was selling). Anyway, we didn't want to buy anything, so we politely declined and briskly rushed forth. However, he seemed to be focused on us, he started shouting out a deal to the back of our heads, and whilst I was pretending not to hear, he said the magic P word. \n\n\"OK, here's a deal, I'll give you three for two if you buy me a slice of pizza\"\n\nPIZZA!\n\nIt's exactly what we had in our bag! We'd found our man! And some how, he'd intuitively found us. Without a seconds hesitation me and my dear pizza chef span around, whipped out the pizza and handed it to him. \n\nWhilst it may not sound like an extraordinary experience, we couldn't help but feel something was at play that was much larger than me, my girlfriend and the salesman. He could have chosen anyone, but with a laser-like focus his attention landed on us. He was in a time of need and it seemed that something had told him we could fulfill that need, if only for a passing moment. \n\nThanks for reading and stay blessed!",

      "body": "If you woke up one morning wearing layers of neglected hygiene and a monstrous aroma, what would be your instant priority? I imagine most would make some effort towards eradicating any overwhelming stenches, not only for the sake of those around you but, maybe more so, for your own sense of comfort, pride and well-being. It is readily accepted that leaving the comfort of your home into the world of work, or even just meandering the streets, without at least scrubbing your teeth and having a wash is unnatural. Some may even spend hours preparing their assembled appearance for their voyage down to the bus stop.\n\nThis maintenance of hygiene is fairly natural to me also, as more often than not I wake up with some form of unwanted odor (nothing major of course), yet what intrigues me is our lack of mental maintenance. Wake up smelling sweaty and sour and we bombard our body with products and antidotes, yet wake up in a sour mood and we often do little about it. A stale and unproductive mood won’t stop us from trudging into work. \n\nThough it’s nice to smell good for other people, it is our mood and our mind state that can directly affect those people. Maybe you are thinking “well I don’t have soap and shampoo for my emotions you nut-sack” (hopefully not) but a fundamental part of being human is being well equipped with the tools to become considerate and aware of our own emotions. Just like choosing a fragrance to counteract our smell, we can take procedures to balance our mental state. A foul mood can linger for hours if not days, seeping into everything that surrounds us, so anything we can do consciously to elevate our state is surely worth a try; whether it be an act of forgiveness, or simply some music.
