| body | Western nations built their societies on the the backs of black and brown people. The history is written for all to read. Even if one cannot read one will learn some way or another that our advanced democracies, came from the blood, sweat and subjugation of black and brown people. Still, to this day they are dying in the Middle East while we order a coffee and fill our petrol tanks at the station. Now, some people are sick of reading about the atrocities committed by their countries in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Those in elite ultra conservative circles are seizing the opportunity to exploit those frustrations. What about the white farmers in South Africa they say, reduce immigration they say, blame political correctness they say, we've lost our freedom speech they say... Let's look at that last one. How is it that fascists have no place to voice their concerns? Well, they may have been refused from speaking at a campus, or protests forced them to cancel an event. Yet, amazingly they are on almost every major television network, across the internet, YouTube, in newspapers, and social media with thousands of followers. I can't read my news feeds without someone telling me about their supposed plight. Somehow still they are voiceless. Somehow we are to believe they are not being heard because they didn't get to speak at "insert University here" campus. Blame the far left. This is a bad joke. Here I am; an olive skinned (depends on the season though) Iranian Australian, minimal reach, no TV interviews, no strong worded newspaper articles, no huge YouTube or social media following, writing away, and no one shares a single post or promotes any of it. So who is the minority here? Whose speech is filtered out, silenced? Let's get real folks. Most white rights groups are not suffering, except for maybe missing out on cheap tech and travel deals. Why do fascists want to speak at left leaning campuses anyway? Would I book an event at a venue that loathes my opinions or views? Certainly not. University campuses are some of the last places where grassroots left movements can organise. Notice how I said grassroots? This is important, in as far as it draws a necessary line in the sand to mark the distinction from the elite left or as some like to call them, the imperialist left. Who are the imperialist left? If you were to place them in front of a mirror you might see a reflection of their adversary. In other words, Turnbull or Shorten, Trump or Clinton, they barely differ. Don't get me wrong, the differences are there but the goal is the same. To protect the elite. The grassroots left is different because it is a people first movement. It values human life over power and control. So when we discuss freedom of speech it is about those who are truly voiceless in our society; the indigenous peoples, minorities, the homeless, the poor, the war ravaged, Third World countries, refugees and anyone who is disenfranchised in our communities. I am proud to speak out on these issues and give voice to them where I can. What I won't do is defend the right of a fascist to speak and I don't think you should either. There is a reason why fascism is not tolerated. Fascism is self implosive, it also has a scorched earth policy to erase all and renew to an Aryan only future. To crush minorities and to murder, what they deem genetically and racially inferior populations. Can you think of an instance where there is consensus on limiting free speech? Anti Semitism and holocaust denial for one. Most people agree to disallow such speech. Why do you think that is? One of the main, if not the main reasons fascist's gained support was by blaming jews for the ills of Europe and the world. With wordcraft. Fascist spokespeople do not have a place on our university campuses. They do not have a place in our leadership. Millions of people did not die on the battlefield in WW2 so that generations later, modern day courtiers would defend the interests of fascists, their right to influence young minds, their hatred, their prejudice and divisive discourse. There is no place for fascist speech to confuse people and lead them into the abyss. We encourage grassroots activists to continue in the good fight, to honour the war dead by ensuring fascists do not find a way to fool people into a divided and dark world ever again. |

| body | I didn't mean for the title of this blog to be cryptic but it conveys a sense of the current conception of the world that has been lingering in my mind for some time now. The map above shows a world divided since WWII, enduring the cold war, to a large degree representative of the current allegiances. Upon looking at the map and once the distinct colours of red and blue begin to cancel each other out, my focus drew to the grey countries. Famously known as the non aligned nations these countries choose their own path conditional on no one and nothing. Curiously China is grey in this image however we all know that China is well and truly red. Some of these non aligned nations; namely those in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, face ongoing economic and political burdens due to their courage to stay out of the umbrella of imperial aspirations of the blue and the red states. Essentially since the colonial era for some 500+ years these countries have faced constant humiliation, aggression and political & economic oppression from the imperialists. What we are seeing today is a return to colonial aspirations with the reiteration of white man's burden. The only draw card for this anglocentric imperialist agenda is the war on terror. So how do we discuss a war which has no borders and defines itself by an endless battle against Islamist extremism. There is only one way to see this new card and that is as a product much like everything else in this new world made to order. What I am proposing is that you consider that the Islam you are being spoon fed is a product manufactured by our colonial masters writing a narrative for you with a quill pen dipped in the blood of innocence. Islam has existed as a world religion for centuries, yet since the war on terror of 16 odd years we are being led to believe that Islam is an inferior ideology, not even a religion, but an ideology that is barbaric and backward. There appears to be no way to reverse this narrative because the terror attacks keep coming. So how can anyone offer an alternative version? Well, if we have a better way it is our duty to persevere. What do I mean by the exclusivity of benevolence? Recent comments from ultra conservatives claiming not all cultures are made equal have started to resurface. They hold the view that western culture and values have achieved a superior status over other cultures. I started to think about how public relations have contributed to the image one has when thinking about the current divide between non western and western cultures. When one thinks about charity, kindness, being good, neighbourly, family values, progress, peace and harmony one tends to think about western culture and life. When one mentions Middle Eastern culture there is little sense of the kind of benevolence we imagine when we think of western culture. In fact, oppositionary thoughts of cruelty, oppression, barbarism, violence, hate and corruption come to mind. This can be attributed to the fine tuned use of public relations tactics creating the linguistic associations mentioned above. There is no doubt that non aligned nations of Asia, the Middle East and Africa are in a public relations battle which they are vastly out resourced and out numbered in. There is a glimmer of hope in new shared technologies of social media allowing people to break through the noise of new colonial aspirations. Large scale growing non western cultures, like Iran, are involved in humanitarian efforts yet we don't hear much about it. These cultures need to assert their relevance in the modern era by sharing the good values they uphold. We are starting to see this on social media platforms. They must increase the momentum across new tech platforms, in the fight against new colonial public relations networks, to reach people on the ground in western nations. This is a good start to help curb the rise of new colonialism that aims to belittle and redefine non western culture and traditions as irrelevent and useless. |

"body": "I didn't mean for the title of this blog to be cryptic but it conveys a sense of the current conception of the world that has been lingering in my mind for some time now. The map above shows a world divided since WWII, enduring the cold war, to a large degree representative of the current allegiances. Upon looking at the map and once the distinct colours of red and blue begin to cancel each other out, my focus drew to the grey countries.\n\nFamously known as the non aligned nations these countries choose their own path conditional on no one and nothing. \n\nWhat we are seeing today is a return to colonial aspirations with the reiteration of white man's burden. \n\nIslam has existed as a world religion for centuries, yet since the war on terror of 16 odd years we are being led to believe that Islam is an inferior ideology, not even a religion, but an ideology that is barbaric and backward. There appears to be no way to reverse this narrative because the terror attacks keep coming. So how can anyone offer an alternative version? Well, if we have a better way it is our duty to persevere. \n\nWhat do I mean by the exclusivity of benevolence? \n\nThis can be attributed to the fine tuned use of public relations tactics creating the linguistic associations mentioned above. There is no doubt that non aligned nations of Asia, the Middle East and Africa are in a public relations battle which they are vastly out resourced and out numbered in.\n\nThere is a glimmer of hope in new shared technologies of social media allowing people to break through the noise of new colonial aspirations. | body | Some valid points. I think there is room for plenty of growth with Steemit. Think of it as Facebook when it was a university campus project! Another thing I'd like to add to Steemit is the ability to have a personal account and linked business accounts. I'm sure as the project grows it will have these changes. Lots of potential here imo. |

| body | Surrounded by the throng of city life at his local park in Sydney, I start my interview with Geoffrey Emerson, Director of Communications of [Decentralized ID](https://decentralized.id). He describes in detail the innovations his team are building on the ERC20 token. Decentralized ID or [(DID)](https://ico.decentralized.id) aims to free us from the shaky trust issues we have when we transact online. There is more to it than that but that alone makes sense to me when, more often than I'd like, I read news headlines about the next phishing scam or MITM attack. "The 'why' of DID is to give you control of your identity... to give you control of your metadata. Importantly, we want to bring trust back to the blockchain, so that you know who you're talking to, that there are no man-in-the-middle attacks...so there are secure transactions and you're not going to get phished and taken advantage of." Geoffrey spends the next 45 minutes laying out the concept in greater detail. As I started to hear more about Decentralized ID it dawned on me that, as a crypto enthusiast, this project had legs, and yet it had slipped under the radar for me. That said, I'm a slave to my news feeds, Twitter feeds, Facebook and YouTube. I, like most investors am looking for the next Kyber or Ethereum but the space has changed so much in just one year, where now we are seeing initial coin offering’s gain 20,000+ Telegram members based on hype. Not to say that there is no merit in those projects, only that there is a shift in how caught up investors are in the [ICO](https://ico.decentralized.id/) whirlwind we are in now. In short, if a project slips under the radar, it now, to a greater degree, has my attention. But I digress... Who would want to utilise this token? Think of any interaction or transaction that needs ID verification - institutions such as government, and banks; businesses such as e-commerce sites, money-grams or simply accessing a secured physical space. To break it down even more, one could digitize ID and select what they wish to share from just your name, age, address or full anonymity in any given transaction or interaction. "Currently in NSW, Australia, they are running a digital driver's licence challenge. You don't carry your licence anymore, you carry it on your phone and you can select which aspect of your ID you want to share." Identity protection is incredibly relevant in light of the recent CoinCheck exchange hack in Japan which saw $500 Million of the NEM cryptocurrency stolen. Mr Emerson claims that [Decentralized ID](https://decentralized.id) would have prevented that hack, otherwise known as a MITM (man in the middle attack) "...where the hackers spoofed the DNS, directed traffic to the copy site and stole people's money. With BOCA that can't happen because they wouldn't have the certificates... it wouldn't matter if they [hackers] pointed to another site, it wouldn't authenticate." BOCA or blockchain originated certificate of authenticity is the SSL certificate of the Decentralized world. It's the key to your ID. Talk of teams is a tad important in crypto projects and Decentralized ID has had its share of criticism in this regard, specifically the team's experience in the identification/cryptography sector. With public knowledge about tokens becoming more sophisticated and analysis and metrics creating standards of excellence based on key categories like the token price, supply, working prototype and namely the team and advisors, it is no surprise that some projects fall by the wayside simply because they fail to meet someone's particular standards. Mr Emerson noted that the team may not be known for ID experience however they have significant experience in writing code and developing security protocols which they are fully transparent about. Sheikh Abdullah Naveed leads all aspects of the development as the veteran coder with expertise and experience spanning decades, credited for coding/writing Pakistan's ad server. In terms of coding security and custom frameworks, his background is proven. With that said, there are no pretensions to be made and the proof is in the work being done. Mr Emerson explains that there is a clear line of work that is being done by the Decentralized foundation leading from ICO to achieving partnerships, building adoption and implementing the utility. "...once it gets picked up by a government to trial, all of a sudden you've got a country using BOCA, that's a huge adoption... and the adoption rate will dictate the price." Token supply is an unavoidable metric and it rightfully has its shining moment here. 20 billion tokens upon initial launch at phase 1 of the [ICO](https://ico.decentralized.id/) sounds like a high figure but the good news is that [Decentralized ID](https://decentralized.id) is burning unpurchased tokens, currently in phase 3 sitting at 13 billion total supply. Coin burns are welcome news to one and all. What about a prototype or working product? We've seen projects without products launch in crypto and 10x in price post ICO yet ICOs with a prototype get even more attention since the potential is more apparent. Decentralized ID has software at the beta stage and an app in the works. We have some exclusive news to [On the Ground](https://www.ontheground.com.au); the app will launch with a beta testing program, where a beta tester can instantly win Ethereum by using DIDs to login in to a digital roulette wheel for the chance to win. As we started to wrap up the interview probably the most important news of all is the token innovation embedded in the code. A process called 'harvesting' which simply put allows the token to hibernate or fold in on itself thus avoid being burnt or spent. This is a new function of ERC20 tokens and possibly another exclusive aspect of [DID](https://ico.decentralized.id/). Harvesting allows stability of the token supply during adoption since it is a utility token for ID functionality it makes sense that they are not spent like currency. This aspect of the token won't be functional for at least one year during the partnership and adoption phase of the roadmap. Some key figures: current price of $0.0019 per token, a total supply of 13 billion. A $1000 investment would snap up 526,315 tokens. If the token were to achieve just $0.1 that's 50x the initial investment. Of course, no guarantees in life and and the market will dictate the price based on the project’s progress. I'll leave off with Geoffrey's last words which resonated well with me on what he and his team are working to achieve with DID.... "The reason why the idea exists, it's a cosmopolitan nonhomogeneous world out there...we all want our identity and privacy, we want to live our lives happy and peacefully...without being hacked, without having our rights violated...so that's what we're here to do, to facilitate the wellbeing of people." You can learn more at the official [Decentralized ID](https://decentralized.id) website and visit their [ICO portal](https://ico.decentralized.id/) to participate in the token sale but be quick as it’s in the final phase.
