It's a common story in our society that runs on fast food and quick eats. How can you turn down a juicy burger, fries, and a drink for the low price of $5.00, $9.00 if you want a little more taste at a nice Whataburger... ;). Yet, many people go through life without ever budging, finding stability in their maintenance of weight by other means such as staying active on a favorite sport, focusing on maintaining a generally healthy body or even enjoying the control he/she has over what they put in their body. Regardless of the reason, there is a goal in mind that keeps you on the task at hand. \n\nIf there is a goal that people set to keep their stability of their health throughout life, that means that there are obvious obstacles that exist for those of us who aren't able to get there.\n\nSo, let's go and probe some of the many issues that can plague your life and the ones that have directly affected me.\n\nTo start, I will go over the main two that have affected me due to the insight I can apply to those problems.\n\n# Sleep Deprivation Can Be A Sneaky Culprit\n\nIf you struggle to maintain a stable sleeping schedule, it might be contributing to the onslaught of devouring you're having at night and even throughout the day. It makes sense, doesn't it? You are up and about a lot more meaning you want that little bit of energy. Moreover, if you're up and not fasting while you sleep, you will keep thinking of when the next meal will get there, likely later in the day the next day since you are up really late at night. On top of that, sensors in your brain are higher, specifically cortisol, which adversely affects your appetite. Since you are now hungrier, that means you are going to get an extra 400-800 calories by snacking late at night, IT WILL ADD UP. \n\nThis was an issue I never dreamed of affecting my weight gain and now that I recognize it, I can focus on sleeping earlier and even sought medical counsel to better my daily life. In my case, meds were necessary.\n\nKeep an open mind on what might be an obstacle, you never know what is making weight loss an even more difficult endeavor. \n\n# I'm freaking out HERE!!!!!!\n\nAnother biggie for me was stress levels.\n\nStress eaters, shout out to my fam out there, know what can happen if you pass by your favorite restaurant. We find comfort in the yummy foods and just can't seem to have enough once we get started. It feels nice to have some peace and quiet while you eat, and I certainly sought out many foods during finals weeks to try and make myself feel better. Yet, when you're done, you only find pity and self-depreciating thoughts in your head. It's a vicious cycle with no end.\n\nWhat worked for me was trying to take out the parts of my life that really shouldn't be there and add to the stress of it all. Netflix? OUT! I can spend some time on the work I need for the day and thus reduce my stress. DO IT. \n\nKick the useless and bring the useful like gym workouts. After having driven two hours back to my home, I found myself feeling a flurry of symptoms that I found COULD have been the flu.  Although unsure, since the sickness lasted only one HORRIBLE DAY AND NIGHT, it got me thinking.\n\nLet me tell you a bit more about what I experienced to get my thoughts into perspective. \n\nThroughout the drive, I felt extremely warm even though the temperature in the car was at 75 Fahrenheit meanwhile, the outside temperature was around 20. As I drove home, I had some fever which I only assumed was because of the thick jacket I had. My hands were cold yet my entire body was hot. I thought the best way to describe it was like a steak being inside a BBQ pit, cooking for only a sear, except the steak was my body and the sear was for a long and hard 24 hours. \n\nMy hands were shaking a bit, and I found comfort only beneath 2 layers of blankets and a jacket. As the night went on, I tossed and turned for what I thought was eternity, sweating profusely and without any other thought besides the nightmares that went on in my head, likely stemming from the fever. \n\n>The worse part was how feeble and lethargic I felt. It, honest to god, scared me.\n\nWhen I woke up, I felt much, much better. It was like if I frontloaded my sickness and piled it into a terrible 24-hour session in which, what I could only assume, burned the virus within me into tiny bits. A sigh of relief came to me after sleeping for about 12 hours. I was fatigued for the rest of the day after that grill-fest. \n\nWhich lead me to a thought...\n\nIf I felt this sick and absolutely hated every second of it and thought that only death could help me, what am I doing to my body that later on will get me feeling like this for YEARS.\n\n# Maybe, Taking Care of Myself Can Give Me Peace of Mind?\n\nI'm thinking of eating healthier. I'm afraid that a future illness such as congestive heart failure or diabetes, a common trait amongst my family members, will happen to me and lead to a terrible standard of living. I've decided to begin a slow path to eating healthier and taking care of my body. If I couldn't bear living for 24 hours due to a virus I picked up, how could I choose to continue life habits that could lead me to a terminal illness such as cancers that can occur due to lifestyle habits.\n\nI won't let it happen. It's truly a horror for me. We never really know what we fear until we get a taste of it. And let me tell you, that taste was fucking horrible.\n\nHope that you enjoyed the thoughts. As people, we don't like thinking about the hard questions. The questions that nobody can answer for you, except yourself. Even though you CAN answer them, sometimes we don't like the answers that come out of our thoughts. Instead of realizing the truth, the reality that we need, we decide to push it to the utmost corner of our minds, never to be touched until another dark rainy night. \n\nWhere am I going with this?\n\nWhy is life so difficult? \n\nMy answer is very simple--we make it complicated. There are issues that continue to revolve, like a continuous never-ending cycle of pain, suffering, sorrow, stress, and depression. I understand that many will say that it isn't that simple. We have obligations, jobs, duties, responsibilities, chores, etc. That isn't what I'm looking at when I say that life is unnecessarily complicated. \n\n# How We Deal With Problems\n\nProblems are always there. However, many times, we overcomplicate the issues in front of us. Emotions run high, typically hurting everyone within the blast zone due to pent-up anger and sadness that comes from life issues. Being optimistic isn't always the solution, many times it isn't. Optimism will not make you happier on its own. It is a tool and like all tools, it has its time and place.\n\nAnother tool we need it knowing there is a limit of how much you can control your life. Even though we can control our actions, we cannot control those of others, our environments, and luck/unluckiness. There are millions of variables and knowing you did the best you could and acted appropriately should help lessen the \"complicatedness\" of your life. Learn to give \"less fucks!\" Devoting all your emotions in a negative way to a problem will not help. There is only so much you can care about a day, save the emotions for things that matter and ignore those that don't. Work drama is definitely a place we can all save our \"fucks\" for other more stressful events. Balance, balance, balance!",
