      "body": " \r\n<br><p>Bitcoin might be in for further declines as it hovers around the bottom of the descending channel on the 4-hour chart. A larger bounce could still take it up to the Fib levels nearby.</p>\n<p>However, the 100 SMA recently crossed below the longer-term 200 SMA to confirm that the path of least resistance is to the downside. In other words, the selloff is more likely to gain traction than to reverse. A break below the swing low could set off a steeper slide.</p>\n<p>The moving averages are also close to the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level at the mid-channel area of interest. This suggests that upside might be limited, especially since there are more resistance levels above it. The 50% level is around the $3,900 mark while the 61.8% level is near the top of the channel.</p>\n<p>RSI is treading lower to confirm that bearish pressure is in play. The oscillator has some ground to cover before hitting the oversold region, which means that selling momentum could stay on for a bit longer. Stochastic is also moving south so price could follow suit while bears have the upper hand. Watch out for a break below the swing low to gauge if more declines are in the works.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/190117_btc.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31805\" src=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/190117_btc-1024x589.png\" alt=\"\" /><br/></a></p>\n<p>Bitcoin has struggled to maintain the positive start earlier this year as traders appear disappointed about the lack of actual developments that could sustain the rallies. Note that most of the optimism stems from expectations of stronger institutional investments in the space, but more of this needs to be seen or at least covered by headlines in order to boost prices.</p>\n<p>Besides, much of the focus lately has been on the delayed Ethereum upgrade, which is casting more uncertainty back in the industry once again. The firm predicts that 2019 will see lower figures for spot markets than in 2017, despite the likely increase in the variety of traded cryptocurrencies.</p><p dir=\"ltr\">According to Diar&rsquo;s data, the combined trade volume of the USD markets on major United States crypto exchange <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/coinbase\">Coinbase</a> increased by 21% in 2018 versus 2017. Over the same period, exchanges <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/kraken\">Kraken</a> and <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/bitfinex\">Bitfinex</a> saw increases of 192% and 50% respectively.</p><p dir=\"ltr\">In addition to growing trade volumes, Coinbase reportedly registered a 14.1% increase in the number of trades: from 82.7 million deals in 2017 to 94.4 million in 2018.</p><p dir=\"ltr\">Diar has also analysed the results of Bitcoin (<a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/bitcoin-price-index\">BTC</a>) <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/mining\">mining</a> activity throughout the year. According to the research, BTC miner revenues reportedly surpassed $5.8 billion in 2018. In January alone, miners earned $1.2 billion. However, the monthly figure has slumped by 83 percent over the year, resulting in a combined revenue of $210 million in December.</p><p dir=\"ltr\">At the beginning of 2018, a number of mining pools led by application-specific integrated circuit (<a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/asic\">ASIC</a>) manufacturer <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/bitmain\">Bitmain</a>, together with the ViaBTC pool, which the company has invested in, held control over 53 of Bitcoin network&rsquo;s hash power. These same pools started 2019 with only 39 percent of the network&rsquo;s hash rate.</p><p dir=\"ltr\">Diar highlights that the power shift from few major mining pools to a larger number of smaller ones is an important factor in ensuring the network&rsquo;s security from potential attacks:</p><blockquote><p dir=\"ltr\">&ldquo;Unknown miners closed December having solved a whopping 22 percent of the total blocks up from 6 percent at the start of last year. The Bitcoin network is currently less likely to experience an attack given the fact the BTC.com controlled pools have lost dominance over the network.&rdquo;</p>\n</blockquote><p dir=\"ltr\">As Cointelegraph <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/report-traditional-investors-shift-to-over-the-counter-bitcoin-markets\">reported</a> in December, Diar found that institutional investors have shifted towards higher liquidity over-the-counter (<a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/otc\">OTC</a>) physical BTC markets.       "body": " \r\n<br><p>The two additional hard forks of Ethereum Nowa (ETN) and Ethereum Classic Vision (ETCV) have come under scrutiny <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/two-alleged-ethereum-scam-forks-appropriating-users-private-keys-report-finds?utm_source=Telegram&amp;utm_medium=social\">after reports</a> emerged that both are taking the private keys of users trying to redeem the additional coins. They then use the private keys to empty out the wallets of those seeking to participate in the airdrops. The ETCV hard fork was meant to take place yesterday, 11th January whereas the ETN hard fork was scheduled for today, January 12th.</p>\n<h4><strong>Several Warning Signs and Words of Caution</strong></h4>\nIn the case of Ethereum Nowa, there were stern words of caution on <a href=\"https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5079183.0\">the BitcoinTalk forum</a> warning that the fork was fraudulent and had a fake team. The photos of the team members had allegedly been sourced from Shutterstock. <a href=\"http://ethereum-nowa.com/\">The project&#8217;s website</a> is also suspicious in that it requests users who want the airdrop, to send some ETH to a specific address and then export their private keys to a new ETN wallet.</p>\nWhen you look up the address provided by the ETN project on Etherscan, you are greeted by a message warning users not to send anything to the address. <a href=\"https://etherscan.io/address/0xFE5609818ba43C87e8E6B7BFE4286B0048707a17#comments\">It states</a>:</p>\n<blockquote>\nDon&#8217;t send anything here. Scam fork/airdrop.</p>\n\n</blockquote>\nEthereum World News had earlier on in the month cautioned that unless additional ETH hard forks were supported by major exchanges such as Binance and OKEx, there was a high chance of them not being legitimate.</p>\nBoth <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/binance-confirms-support-for-the-january-ethereum-eth-constantinople-hard-fork/\">Binance</a> and <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/okex-to-support-the-upcoming-ethereum-eth-constantinople-hard-fork/\">OKEx</a> had asked developers seeking to carry out an airdrop on the Ethereum blockchain, to contact them directly. Based on the fact that neither of the two exchanges has provided additional information regarding additional Ethereum hard forks, it can be assumed that the ETN and ETCV airdrops are not to be trusted.</p>\nAlso to note is that visitors attempting to access the Ethereum Classic Vision website, get the following warning from the MetaMask plugin on their web browser.</p>\n<blockquote>\nThis domain is currently on the MetaMask domain warning list. Prior to this, she reportedly worked as a senior associate at Big Four auditor KPMG for almost three years.</p><p>While Mehta&rsquo;s move is testimony to the increasing prominence of stablecoin projects in the cryptocurrency space, other Coinbase veterans have taken steps that equally take the measure of wide-ranging changes in the sector.</p><p>In October, Adam White &mdash; Coinbase&rsquo;s fifth-ever employee &mdash; left the exchange for a new role at Intercontinental Exchange&rsquo;s (ICE) forthcoming digital assets platform <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/nyse-operator-announces-new-global-digital-assets-platform-plans-bitcoin-futures-launch\">Bakkt</a>. Initially, GRAFT is expected to be advantageous to those who are underbanked (or deplatformed), as well as high-risk merchants who are faced with disproportionately high transaction fees from traditional payment processing companies. However, because GRAFT Network will have lower transaction fees, tight privacy controls (based on the CryptoNote protocol), and the ability to create automated blockchain-based loyalty rewards programs, GRAFT platform and its ecosystem is expected to challenge centralized payment processors across the board as a conventional next-generation point of sale payment solution that is adaptable to market demands. </p>\n<p>A decentralized payment platform like GRAFT will allow open, free commerce without intervention from central banks, monopolized payment card networks, and/or governments while initializing a new generation of economic opportunity by providing the means for anyone to participate in the payments network.       "body": " \r\n<br><h2><strong>Altcoins Won&#8217;t Return, Bitcoin Will Reign </strong></h2>\n<p>CoinTelegraph<a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_kZSIUIr0s\"> recently sat down</a> with Tone Vays, a former traditional markets trader turned Bitcoin (BTC) diehard, to talk about what happened to the cryptosphere in 2018, and what he expects will occur heading into 2019. Interestingly, contrary to the bearish sentiment he touted in recent months, the analyst claimed that BTC could perform well during 2019.</p>\n<p></p>\n<p>Vays, when asked about what was crypto&#8217;s &#8220;most important event in 2018,&#8221; drew attention to the decline in the Bitcoin price, and, more importantly, the correlated collapse in a majority of crypto assets (altcoins). The trader, formerly of J.P. Morgan, explained that 2018&#8217;s bear market is &#8220;significantly different than what happened back in 2014 or 2015.&#8221;</p>\n<p>The content creator noted that this time around, &#8220;the altcoin bubble will not return,&#8221; adding that he doesn&#8217;t expect for alternative crypto assets to undergo a resurgence. <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/?s=Tone+Vays\">Vays</a> hinted at the fact that the industry has already preemptively indicated that altcoins won&#8217;t return, as made apparent by the Bitcoin Cash debacle (he called it an &#8220;implosion&#8221;), and other smaller events that accentuated the irrelevancy of these coins.</p>\n<p>While some bash Vays for this belief, he has only recently doubled-down on this anti-altcoin sentiment. Vays has claimed that <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/?s=Ethereum\">Ethereum</a> (ETH) could fall to $0.2, just shy of its original price stipulated by its token offering.</p>\n<p>Jimmy Song, a leading Bitcoin educator, commentator, and developer, echoed Vays&#8217; point, explaining that many &#8220;crappy projects (altcoins)&#8221; are in the midst of their death throes, and will be eventually flushed out of this ecosystem. Song, explaining why this industry occurrence is significant, noted that there has been a &#8220;lot of malinvestment in this space,&#8221; making the removal of fluff/worthless projects positive for bonafide investment opportunities.</p>\n<p>Returning to his advocacy for the flagship cryptocurrency, Song explained that Bitcoin&#8217;s ten year anniversary accentuates that it can be trusted over a project that is two or three years old. This was likely said in reference to <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/?s=Jimmy+Song\">his skepticism</a> about Ethereum.</p>\n<h2><strong>Bitcoin Will Likely Reverse In 2019, Says Vays</strong></h2>\n<p>Explaining his outlook on the cryptocurrency industry heading into 2019, Vays noted that consumers will start to realize that Bitcoin didn&#8217;t die, nor is slated to die. Vays noted that the realization that <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/?s=BTC\">BTC</a> could reverse in 2019 may also begin to dawn on traders, adding that he personally believes a reversal will occur during the latter half of 2019, rather than the beginning.</p>\n<p>Doubling-down on his skepticism regarding projects that don&#8217;t involve the OG Bitcoin, the long-time advocate noted that 2019 will be the time that Bitcoin will start to &#8220;separate itself from the rest of the crypto space.&#8221; He stated:</p>\n<blockquote><p>The marking of 2019 will be the end of the Bitcoin bear market, and the start of the next bull market.       "body": " \r\n<br><p>This year has been a rough one for most cryptocurrencies but some have fared worse than others. Ethereum is one of those heavy sufferers that has lost over 90% since its peak almost a year ago.</p>\n<p>According to Arthur Hayes, CEO of Hong Kong based BitMEX, the revival of Ethereum could be just around the corner. Speaking to Cointelegraph Japan he said ETH could quickly return to $200 once new ICO projects start hitting the markets.</p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https://sludgefeed.com/bitmex-ceo-thinks-ethereum-could-test-200-if-this-happens/\">Sludgefeed</a> which translated the article, Hayes added;</p>\n<blockquote><p>“Once there are new issues, then Ether will rebound aggressively. When the ICO market returns, Ether will quickly test $200. The timing of the ICO rebirth is 12 to 18 months out,”</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p>Hayes has not been a proponent of Ethereum in the past calling it a ‘shitcoin’ and even advising BitMEX users to short it according to <a href=\"https://www.trustnodes.com/2018/09/12/bitmex-accused-of-manipulating-ethereums-price\">Trustnodes</a> which also ran reports of price manipulation.</p>\n<p>ICOs have been largely responsible for this year’s <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/category/news/ethereum-news/\">Ethereum performance</a> and the fact that it has been outperformed by a number of other crypto assets including Bitcoin, XRP and TRON which have recovered faster. It has been estimated that the ICO war chests are now virtually empty so Ethereum is close to the bottom. December has seen the highest number of ETH withdrawals this year.</p>\n<p>At the moment an ICO revival does not look likely but 2019 is likely to be far more positive for crypto than this year has been. Many industry observers have slated a reversal around Q2 next year and a greater interest from institutional investors. This could be the catalyst for more ICOs which would drive Ethereum prices back to $200 very quickly.</p>\n<p>At the time of writing <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/ethereum-eth-back-on-recovery-track-tron-trx-following/\">Ethereum</a> is trading at $128, down 4.6% on the day. Daily trade volume has dropped from $3 billion to $2.5 as the Christmas rally runs out of steam and starts to reverse the short term trend.</p>\n<p>Over the past seven days Ethereum is still up 26% from the $100 it was priced at this time last Thursday according to <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/\">coinmarketcap.com</a>. Since its 2018 low of around $83 on December 15 Ethereum has recovered 54% to current levels but it is still at its lowest level for 18 months or so.</p>\n<p>In terms of market capitalization it currently has $13.4 billion, which is still nearly $2 billion behind XRP in second place. BCH/USD broke the $200 and $175 support levels, and it could even test $120.</em></p>\n<p><strong>Key Talking Points</strong></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bitcoin cash price failed to clear the $240 resistance and declined sharply against the US Dollar.</li>\n<li>BCH broke a major triangle support at $190 on the 4-hours chart (data feed from Bitstamp).</li>\n<li>The price is currently trading with a bearish angle and it could decline further below $150.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Bitcoin Cash Price Analysis</h2>\n<p>Recently, there was a solid upward move above the $120 and $1801 resistance levels in bitcoin cash price against the US dollar. BCH even traded above the $200 and $220 resistance levels. Later, there was an increase in selling pressure in the market, resulting in a sharp decline in bitcoin, <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/ripple-xrp-price-turns-super-bullish-versus-bitcoin-btc/\" target=\"_blank\">ripple</a>, Ethereum, <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/litecoin-ltc-price-analysis-primed-to-break-40/\" target=\"_blank\">litecoin</a> and <a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/eos-price-analysis-primed-for-more-gains-above-3-00/\" target=\"_blank\">EOS</a>.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Bitcoin_Cash_Price_Chart.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30149\" src=\"https://ethereumworldnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Bitcoin_Cash_Price_Chart-1024x487.png\" alt=\"Bitcoin Cash Price Analysis BCH Chart BTC\" /><br/></a></p>\n<p>Looking at the <a href=\"https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/BCHUSD/\" target=\"_blank\">chart</a>, there was a top formed near the $237 level and later the price started consolidating in a range above the $200 level. The price declined below the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level of the last wave from the $84 low to $237 high.</p>\n<p>Finally, sellers had the upper hand and they pushed the price below the $200 and $180 support levels. Moreover, the price broke a major triangle support at $190 on the same chart.</p>\n<p>The price traded below the $160 level and it seems like it could soon test the $144 level and the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level of the last wave from the $84 low to $237 high.
