      "body": "<html>\n<h1>Preamble&nbsp;</h1>\n<p>On January the 8th 2018 <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/\">coinmarketcap</a> decided to remove Korean exchanges from their price calculation. &nbsp;This \"removed\" $50 billion from the total market cap caused fall in virtually all coins and panic ensued.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>When I looked into the drop and figured out what had happened i posted this <a href=\"https://twitter.com/crypto_skillz/status/950352525370253312\">tweet</a>.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<h1>Introduction&nbsp;</h1>\n<p>Removing bad actors from the true price calculations is not necessarily a bad thing but the ability for a centralised entity to make this decision an executed it based on its whims without any warning certainly is. &nbsp;Imagine if the owners of coinmarketcap had decided to short a number of these coins before they made this move, this could be a very profitable exploit.</p>\n<h2>Solution</h2>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>What (I feel) is required a decentralised way to generate the true price of each coin and have some sort of voting mechanism which uses consensus to decide what coins to include.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<h2>How do we achieve this?&nbsp;</h2>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>A very simple first approach and I encourage the community to expand on this idea is as follows.</p>\n<p>An initial price calculator is created based on the current best model we have which is coinmarketcap and well call this \"trueprice1\"&nbsp;</p>\n<ol>\n  <li>Each address in the bitcoin network (or any coin preferred) which has a positive balance is allowed to vote on what exchanges is to be included in the price. &nbsp;Of course, we could make it just a positive balance or you have to prove you own the address before you can vote.</li>\n  <li>Once you have the ability to vote you give a plus/minus on each exchange.</li>\n  <li>All exchanges in the minus are ignored in the calculation. All exchanges in the positive are included. &nbsp;I know this is the part that requires the most work and this stupidly simple method at present.</li>\n  <li>Anyone can create a new price and select what exchanges that they prefer for the calculation of the true price. &nbsp;Once this is created the users can vote on the exchanges, the same model is used to exclude/include exchanges.&nbsp;</li>\n</ol>\n<p>I don't feel we have to build this as a blockchain solution, with its own coin, ICO and all the fun that comes from that this could be done with a NoSQL database and a webserver, could be wrong on this, however.</p>\n<h1>Additional features</h1>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>As well as the above we can use all the \"Coin prices\" to create an aggregate price of the price calculations which may or may not lead to a better true price, we will have to test it first.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>We can fix the price and remove the unit bias. &nbsp;As you may or may not know a lot of people are not happy with the price being calculated on market cap as a lot of coins these days have the unlimited market cap. &nbsp;I built a simple <a href=\"http://www.cryptoskillz.com/ubp.html\">page</a> to show the calculation of prices based on different models which can be done here.&nbsp;</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<h1>Conclusion</h1>\n<p><br></p>\n<p>I am happy to build out whatever consensus the community comes up with (fully open sourced) to stop things links this from happening again.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n</html>",

Let's being.&nbsp;</p>\n<h1><strong>Daedalus Wallet</strong>&nbsp;</h1>\n<p>This is a very early wallet (it' an early project) and comes with the usual issues of alpha software, it does not work very well. However, it works well enough that with a little bit of effort you can make it function to a useable level. This post focuses on the Mac but the principals are the same, you will just to change locations of files and such.&nbsp;</p>\n<h2><strong>The problem&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</h2>\n<p>When you launch the Daedalus wallet usually for the second time and beyond you are presented with the screen below which it gets stuck at it.&nbsp; ~This can happen for a number of reasons and step through each of these in turn and see if it fixes it.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>\n<h3><strong>1) Log files to large&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</h3>\n<p>I have had log files over 1 gig and it appears to be stuck whilst either reading from or writing to this file. &nbsp;Common practice in logging is to create a new log file each day and I assume this will come in a future release. &nbsp;For now, we can just go ahead and delete the log file and restart and see what happens. &nbsp;</p>\n<ul>\n  <li>Open a finder window</li>\n  <li>Press CMD+SHIFT+G&nbsp;</li>\n  <li>Enter the following string ~/Library/Application Support/Daedalus/Logs and press OK&nbsp;</li>\n  <li>Delete all the files in the Logs directory</li>\n  <li>Restart Daedalus<br>\n&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<h3>2) Delete Lock file</h3>\n<p>Lock files are used to stop an application running twice. &nbsp;when the app boots up it checks for a lock file and if it is there it aborts the load. &nbsp;Usually, the application would inform you of this but Daedalus just hangs. &nbsp;</p>\n<ul>\n  <li>Open a finder window<br>\n&nbsp;</li>\n  <li>Press CMD+SHIFT+G&nbsp;</li>\n  <li>Enter the following string ~/Library/Application Support/Daedalus/ and press OK&nbsp;</li>\n  <li>Delete the file named .lock</li>\n  <li>Restart Daedalus<br>\n&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<h3><strong>3) Kill the server</strong>&nbsp;</h3>\n<p>The cardano-node node server appears to be what handles the block information, syncs etc and interacts with the Daedalus wallet. &nbsp;Sometimes (though it is rare) gets stuck and requires a restart.&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>\n<ul>\n  <li>open activity monitor</li>\n  <li>search for cardano-node</li>\n  <li>double click it</li>\n  <li>press quit<br>\n&nbsp;</li>\n</ul>\n<h3><strong>4) Blockchain syncing</strong>&nbsp;</h3>\n<p>This appears to be the main issue and for the record, it is easily solvable, all that is happening, in essence, is the cardano-node decides the blockchain is too far behind and refuses a connection to the Daedalus wallet. &nbsp;If you leave it long enough it will allow the Daedalus wallet to connect and you start to see the Syncing block message. &nbsp;This would be easily solved by the Daedalus wallet simply displaying a message saying \"syncing with block\" or \"waiting for a connection\" or anything other than \"connecting to network\" as this is what makes users think its broke, as they have seen it connect in the past.
