titleAmazon-owned, leading game streaming platform Twitch has enabled bitcoin (#BTC)
bodyAmazon-owned, leading game streaming platform Twitch has enabled bitcoin (#BTC) and bitcoin cash (#BCH) payments again @Bitcoin @rogerkver @amazon when will we see #BNB @cz_binance ? #BitcoinCash #bitcoin Amazon-owned, leading game streaming platform Twitch has enabled bitcoin (BTC) and bitcoin cash (BCH) payments again, Cointelegraph Brazil reports on June 25. As Cointelegraph reported at the time, in March Twitch quietly removed bitcoin and bitcoin cash as payment options for subscriptions by removing Bitpay as a payment method. Per the report, Bitpay has been enabled again as a payment processor on the platform. Bitcoin and bitcoin cash can be found as payment options in the section dedicated to the less common payment methods of the subscription payment page. The renewed enabling of those coins as payment options has not been announced on the company’s blog or in a press release. Bitcoin — after trading sideways in the $3,000-$4,000 range for the first months of the year — has recently rallied and broke $13,000 yesterday. As of press time, bitcoin is down 5.47% on the day and up nearly 32% on the week. Earlier today news broke that BitMEX, the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform, saw record volumes across its operations as bitcoin hit $13,000. As Cointelegraph reported yesterday, also San Francisco-based payments company Square has just made bitcoin deposits available on its popular Cash App platform.

titleBitcoin cash hard fork
bodyBitcoin cash hard fork nChain announced on August 16 that it would launch its own full node, Bitcoin SV (for Satoshi's Vision). That full node contrasts directly with Bitcoin ABC in three main ways who will become the dominant chain?. First, Bitcoin ABC wants to use a new opcode (or command), OP_CHECKDATASIG, which would "enable uses such as the use of oracles and cross-chain atomic contracts." In short, Wright wants to curb the adoption of any opcodes that would litter the network with non-cash transactions. For Wright, cash is the network's primary utility. Second, Bitcoin ABC introduces canonical transaction ordering in v0.18.0. Canonical transaction ordering reduces how much data needs to be sent between nodes. The transition to this type of ordering may help scale the network in the future. But that's too late for big block supporters, because the final and most important disparity between the software is block size. Bitcoin SV wants the maximum block size to be set at 128MB. Bitcoin ABC, meanwhile, sees the current 32 MB as a more reasonable limit for now.

titlebitcoin is undervalued! Bitcoin and the Quantity Theory of Money – Why Bitcoin is Undervalued
bodyLast year, around this time,BTC went from $6691 (Nov 11) to $20000 (Dec 17) in 5 weeks. This on the back of the expectation and launch of a cash settlement BTC futures contract. An ETF is a way bigger deal & requires actual purchase of BTC.2 looming SEC decision deadlines ahead. f you were awake in your college economics class you might recall Milton Friedman’s classic theory: The quantity theory of money. Essentially, Friedman argued that the general price level is directly proportional to the amount of money in circulation We can apply Friedmans logic to bitcoin and use it as a starting point for valuation. The root of understanding the quantity theory of money is the equation of exchange, MV=PQ. Ok, what does the formula mean again? MV=PQ. M= The stock of money. How much money is out there in circulation. V= The velocity of money. How fast does money change hands? P=The overall price level. Q=The economy’s output. Then we can say that PQ is nominal GDP or total expenditures. The price of every good and service produced within an economy in a year. So, Friedman’s logic was this: The velocity of money was stable and Q moved minimally. The real output of an economy usually only increases or decreased a few percentage points a year. So the formula now looks this: MV =PQ. Because V and Q are relatively constant, an increase in the money supply, by a central bank, will lead to a proportional increase in the price level. In the long run, increasing the money supply faster than the real growth of the economy will always lead to inflation. Real wealth cannot be created by the printing press. How can we take Friedman’s ideas and apply it to the bitcoin ecosystem? First M is constant. No central bank, dictator, politician or bureaucrat can increase the supply of bitcoin. The current market cap of around 250 billion dollars proves the code is good and the underlying idea that counterfeiting bitcoin can’t be done. We will also assume, like Friedman, that the velocity of bitcoin is relatively constant. So the bitcoin ecosystem looks like this: MV= PQ. Now, M and V are held constant. So now we need to define PQ in the bitcoin ecosystem. Q is the world utility that is created by using bitcoin. There are 2 identifiable groups of people who would derive utility out of using bitcoin: those who want to get off the grid and those who want to get on the grid. Internet gamblers, people trying to send money abroad from economically unfree societies and a multiple of other people who use it for illegal activities. In addition, there are people that have no access to the world financial system. These are people from war-torn countries like Afghanistan, Syria or Iraq or people in countries where the monetary and financial authorities have let them down, like Zimbabwe or Venezuela. They will be allowed to get on the grid with use and access to bitcoin. Q is the real-output transactions the entire world needs to get on and off the grid. With M and V constant, the market cap change of bitcoin is the directly proportional to change in the world’s use and need for this type of payment system. The total, world-value of the utility of bitcoin, in fiat currency price (P), divided by the velocity determines the market cap of bitcoin. M= PQ/V. Friedman argued the general price level is directly proportional to the amount of money in circulation. Increasing the money supply pulled up prices. Applying it to bitcoin, we can say that changes to the Q of the world bitcoin ecosystem will have proportional changes in the market cap of bitcoin. The roles are reversed now. The Q is pulling up the M, instead of the M pulling up PQ! Next, if we can put numbers on the Q and V we can have a starting point for bitcoin valuation. Simple napkin math says that it should be a lot higher than 250 billion dollars.

titleNew evilReflex Bug Identified in Multiple ERC20 Smart contracts
bodyIn this blog, we disclose a new type of vulnerability named evilReflex. By exploiting this bug, the attacker can transfer an arbitrary amount of tokens owned by a vulnerable smart contract to any address. Specifically, whenever a smart contract has non-zero token balance, those tokens could be swept out by an attacker. In Figure 1, we show the vulnerable approveAndCallcode() function of an evilReflex-affected smart contract. The issue is in line 135, where _spender.call() is invoked with the user-controllable parameter _extraData. By design, the intended use of this callback function is to send out related notification while finishing an approve() operation. However, by tweaking the _extraData, an attacker can completely hijack the callback to do something unintended by the original design. ![evilReflex_fig1.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmXeixuvqdtUGyThftxLBxve1rdCxcxDDcQtieRRvyHBkf/evilReflex_fig1.png) In other words, such vulnerability will essentially allow an attacker to call any contract address from a vulnerable contract, with arbitrary parameters! One thing she immediately obtains would be the privileges of the victim contract. In some smart contracts, the contract address itself might be used for authorization purposes so that certain privileged operations will only be issued from the contract itself. From another perspective, if the vulnerable contract happens to own certain tokens, which are likely the case for the contract to receive ETH payments or distribute certain ERC20 tokens, an attacker might easily steal these crypto assets. How to do that? The attacker can exploit the evilReflex bug by making the contract to call the transfer() function of itself. Specifically, she can simply set _spender as the contract address with a tweaked _extraData. And the tweaked _extraData starts from the signature of transfer() followed by the two parameters to and value. This way, the contract issues a transfer() call which could transfer all of its tokens out. Figure 2 illustrates a tweaked _extraData we observed in an “in-the-wild” attack. ![evilReflex_fig2.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeiNv9gaTXHPzZpSmjP8XuEyzpCGwNQdG9oUGuV2c7e3z/evilReflex_fig2.png) So far, our system has found at least 28 vulnerable smart contracts which are affected by this bug. And several of them are tradable on top cryptocurrency exchanges. Furthermore, one of the tradable ERC20 tokens had been attacked in the wild with at least 100 tokens stolen. As for this writing, we are still in the process of contacting related project teams behind these tokens and affected cryptocurrency exchanges [11] to remedy this issue. Please contact us if we can be of any help regarding evilReflex. We would like to point out that we internally discovered this vulnerability about a month ago. However, due to the severity of affected tokens and tradable facts in related exchanges, we chose not to disclose the vulnerability until today – after the coordinated response with major exchanges [11]. In the meantime, some researchers have independently discussed the mechanism of such vulnerability in the same nature, though in a different ERC223 context [12]. As for this writing, we are still in the process of contacting related project teams behind these tokens and affected cryptocurrency exchanges [11] to remedy this issue. Please contact us if we can be of any help regarding evilReflex.\n\nWe would like to point out that we internally discovered this vulnerability about a month ago. However, due to the severity of affected tokens and tradable facts in related exchanges, we chose not to disclose the vulnerability until today – after the coordinated response with major exchanges [11]. In the meantime, some researchers have independently discussed the mechanism of such vulnerability in the same nature, though in a different ERC223 context [12].\n\nReferences\n[1] PeckShield: New batchOverflow Bug in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-10299), April 22, 2018\n[2] PeckShield: New proxyOverflow Bug in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-10376), April 25, 2018\n[3] PeckShield: Your Tokens Are Mine: A Suspicious Scam Token in A Top Exchange, April 28, 2018\n[4] PeckShield: New ownerAnyone Bug Allows For Anyone to ‘‘Own’’ Certain ERC20-Based Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-10705), May 3, 2018\n[5] PeckShield: New multiOverflow Bug Identified in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-10706), May 10, 2018\n[6] PeckShield: New burnOverflow Bug Identified in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-11239), May 18, 2018\n[7] PeckShield: New ceoAnyone Bug Identified in Multiple Crypto Game Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-11329), May 21, 2018\n[8] PeckShield: New allowAnyone Bug Identified in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts (CVE-2018-11397, CVE-2018-11398), May 23, 2018\n[9] PeckShield: New allowFlaw Bug Identified in Multiple ERC20 Smart Contracts, June 6, 2018\n[10] PeckShield: Full Disclosure of Highly-Manipulatable, tradeTrap-Affected ERC20 Tokens in Multiple Top Exchanges, June 11, 2018\n[11] Huobi: HADAX Suspends 18T and GVE Deposits and Withdrawals , June 24, 2018\n[12] EnsecTeam: Call Inject Attack in Ethereum Smart Contracts (in Chinese",

titleJapan: 16 Arrested in #Monero #cryptocurrency #Cryptojacking
body#Japan: 16 Arrested in #Monero #cryptocurrency #Cryptojacking Case reported by local media. This is very good news to help clean up this industry. We need to get the bad actors out to bring great trust into the community, #privacy #GDPR #XMR Japanese prosecutors from 10 prefectures have arrested 16 individuals suspected of involvement in an ongoing criminal case of cryptojacking, local news outlet The Asahi Shimbun reports June 15. Cryptojacking is the practice of using unsuspecting users’ processing power in order to mine cryptocurrency for the attacker. According to the report by Asahi Shimbun, the arrested individuals are suspected of installing malware on victims’ computers in order to mine cryptocurrency in an unauthorized manner. The suspects were allegedly running their own websites to spread the crypto mining malware, including the Coinhive program, that mines Monero (XMR). The case against 16 men aged between 18 and 48 was first announced on June 14, with the first arrests taking place as early as March, the report claims. The largest sum of money obtained via cryptojacking by the alleged suspects amounted to 120,000 yen ($1,084). The report emphasizes that the suspects only got 70 percent of the cryptocurrency mined, with the remaining 30 going to Coinhive. Hisashi Sonoda, a professor at Konan Law School who specializes on cybercrimes, commented that immediate arrests might have been an excessive measure since there are no legal precedents on handling similar cases. Launched in 2017, Coinhive has become one of the most widespread online tools to mine Monero on websites using the visitors’ processing power. It has been used to target computers via YouTube, as well as on government and university websites. Earlier this week, Cointelegraph reported that Japanese police have started an investigation into another case of cryptojacking with the use of Coinhive. The prosecutors have investigated three individuals allegedly responsible for running websites that spread Coinhive malware. One of the suspects has been reportedly ordered by the Yokohama Summary Court to pay 100,000 yen ($904) in fines. According to a recent report by network and enterprise security company Palo Alto Networks, about 5 percent of all Monero coins that are currently in circulation have been mined via cryptojacking

title33% Germans See Cryptocurrency as an Investment Opportunity: Bank Report
bodyGerman retail bank Postbank has reported that according to a recent survey, 29% of Germans believe that cryptocurrency is a desirable investment opportunity. The results from Postbank Digital Study 2018 were announced after 3,100 Germans were interviewed from the end of February to the end of March this year. One in two of the younger generation, between the ages of 18 to 34, are interested in cryptocurrency investment. This accounts for 46% of the total surveyed individuals. Furthermore, 14% of these people want to buy or mine cryptocurrencies in the next year. However, despite immense interest in the crypto sector, this demographic only makes up 8% of the total population. Dr. Thomas Mangel, Postbank Chief Digital Officer, said that youngsters shouldn’t concentrate completely on cryptocurrencies since this “type of investment is highly speculative”. Apart from age, the study also focused on gender by observing three different factors. Firstly, 60% of women consider the “independence of established financial systems” more important than 51% of men. Secondly, higher returns from cryptocurrency investment attract 56% men as compared to 36% women. Lastly, 39% of men are in favor of the anonymity provided by digital currencies, while only 26% of women think it is important. Out of this group, one in five people state that they are simple thrilled to become a part of a new form of investment. The survey was conducted at a time when bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were experiencing a free fall. This is why the results in favor of these cryptocurrencies were a surprise to the bank. Mangel said that media is responsible for hyping this phenomenon, which in turn forces people to ignore the risks involved with buying these currencies. For instance, 20% of Germans believe that they are well informed in this topic by simply reading about it on social media. Additionally, 29% of 18-34 year olds think that they are crypto experts. However, majority of people are unaware that bitcoin gains are subject to taxation in different countries. “Due to the media hypes, many people overestimate their knowledge of the opportunities and risks of cryptocurrencies as an investment,” concluded Mangel. In March, South Korea Financial Investors Protection Foundation also published results of a survey that showed that majority of 20-year-olds preferred investing in cryptocurrencies to conventional financial instruments such as stocks, CDs and bonds.

titleHacker Kevin Mitnick shows how to bypass 2FA
bodynew exploit allows hackers to spoof two-factor authentication requests by sending a user to a fake login page and then stealing the username, password, and session cookie. KnowBe4 Chief Hacking Officer Kevin Mitnick showed the hack in a public video. By convincing a victim to visit a typo-squatting domain liked “LunkedIn.com” and capturing the login, password, and authentication code, the hacker can pass the credentials to the actual site and capture the session cookie. Once this is done the hacker can login indefinitely. This essentially uses the one time 2FA code as a way to spoof a login and grab data. “A white hat hacker friend of Kevin’s developed a tool to bypass two-factor authentication using social engineering tactics – and it can be weaponized for any site,” said Stu Sjouwerman, KnowBe4 CEO. “Two-factor authentication is intended to be an extra layer of security, but in this instance, we clearly see that you can’t rely on it alone to protect your organization.” White hat hacker Kuba Gretzky created the system, called evilginx, and describes its implementation in a wonderfully thorough post on his site. Sjouwerman notes that anti-phishing education is deeply important and that a hack like this is impossible to complete if the victim is savvy about security and the dangers of clicking links that come into your email box. To demonstrate this, Sjouwerman sent me an email seemingly addressed to me from Matt Burns ([email protected]) talking about a typo in a post. When I clicked on it I was transferred to a SendGrid redirect site and dumped into TechCrunch – but the payload could have been more nefarious. ![screenshot-2018-05-10-07-52-12.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRNJhKDsV194Qr3xT8THboyFhngepmAFgaBqFSMNdbBxp/screenshot-2018-05-10-07-52-12.png) ![unnamed1.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWLZCNeS3fTeNuAeJCBYJq6soyi6dMKkYFPCx5fCJeBdJ/unnamed1.jpg)![unnamed12.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWLZCNeS3fTeNuAeJCBYJq6soyi6dMKkYFPCx5fCJeBdJ/unnamed12.jpg) “This highlights the need for new-school security awareness training and simulated phishing because people are truly your last line of defense,” said Sjouwerman. He estimates that hackers will begin trying this technique in the next few weeks and urges users and IT managers to harden their security protocols.

"title": "Hacker Kevin Mitnick shows how to bypass 2FA",
"body": "new exploit allows hackers to spoof two-factor authentication requests by sending a user to a fake login page and then stealing the username, password, and session cookie.\n\nKnowBe4 Chief Hacking Officer Kevin Mitnick showed the hack in a public video. By convincing a victim to visit a typo-squatting domain liked “LunkedIn.com” and capturing the login, password, and authentication code, the hacker can pass the credentials to the actual site and capture the session cookie. Once this is done the hacker can login indefinitely. This essentially uses the one time 2FA code as a way to spoof a login and grab data.\n\n“A white hat hacker friend of Kevin’s developed a tool to bypass two-factor authentication using social engineering tactics – and it can be weaponized for any site,” said Stu Sjouwerman, KnowBe4 CEO. “Two-factor authentication is intended to be an extra layer of security, but in this instance, we clearly see that you can’t rely on it alone to protect your organization.”\n\nWhite hat hacker Kuba Gretzky created the system, called evilginx, and describes its implementation in a wonderfully thorough post on his site.\n\nSjouwerman notes that anti-phishing education is deeply important and that a hack like this is impossible to complete if the victim is savvy about security and the dangers of clicking links that come into your email box. To demonstrate this, Sjouwerman sent me an email seemingly addressed to me from Matt Burns ([email protected]) talking about a typo in a post. When I clicked on it I was transferred to a SendGrid redirect site and dumped into TechCrunch – but the payload could have been more nefarious.\n\n![screenshot-2018-05-10-07-52-12.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmRNJhKDsV194Qr3xT8THboyFhngepmAFgaBqFSMNdbBxp/screenshot-2018-05-10-07-52-12.png)\n\n\n\n![unnamed1.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWLZCNeS3fTeNuAeJCBYJq6soyi6dMKkYFPCx5fCJeBdJ/unnamed1.jpg)![unnamed12.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWLZCNeS3fTeNuAeJCBYJq6soyi6dMKkYFPCx5fCJeBdJ/unnamed12.jpg)\n\n\n“This highlights the need for new-school security awareness training and simulated phishing because people are truly your last line of defense,” said Sjouwerman. He estimates that hackers will begin trying this technique in the next few weeks and urges users and IT managers to harden their security protocols.",

titleHighly-Manipulatable ERC20 Tokens Identified in Multiple Top Exchanges (including Binance, Huobi, and OKex)
bodyHighly-Manipulatable ERC20 Tokens Identified in Multiple Top Exchanges (inc #Binance, #Huobi, and #OKex) please contact peckshield #Security issue called tradeTrap #bugbounty #vulnerability #Crypto #ethereum @VitalikButerin @binance @HuobiGroup @OKEx_ Publicly tradable ERC-20 tokens have considerable high market value. Various exchanges, either centralized (e.g., Binance, Huobi.pro, and OKex) or decentralized (e.g., IDEX, EtherDelta, ForkDelta), provide the marketplace by listing them, especially with high-liquidity ones, for public trading. Evidently, the transparency and security of their corresponding smart contracts is paramount. In practice, there is a de-facto requirement for these contract to be publicly verifiable on etherscan.io. Moreover, reflecting the fundamental “code-is-law” spirit and trust of blockchain technology, these contracts once deployed should not be further subject to centralized control or manipulation. In this blog, we would like to report a security issue called tradeTrap (mixed with vulnerable implementation) that utterly violates the above requirement. Unfortunately, tradeTrap plagues hundreds of ERC20 tokens and we have so far confirmed at least ten of them are publicly tradable on current exchanges. Those affected tokens could be of high-profit arbitrage opportunities to bad guys. Due to the range and severity of affected exchanges and tokens, we choose not to disclose the information of affected tokens for now. CONTACT PECKSHIELD
