Ten thousand per bitcoin seemed like a delusional pipe dream, yet as we all know, the price reached that point five months later. \n\nThe larger crypto community was incredibly pessimistic at that time, with investors from <a href=\"https://twitter.com/jcho710/status/1083570084382031873\">twitter</a> to <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDhMWAFp1FA\">youtube</a> to 4chan's <a href=\"https://warosu.org/biz/thread/S8261700\">/biz/</a> calling for three thousand and lower.\n\nBitcoin was at a generational bottom then, as I believe altcoins are now. One of the most famous altcoins is dogecoin, which has an incredibly repetitive and short market cycle. \n\n<img src=\"https://d1-invdn-com.akamaized.net/content/piccf4b775f885d55d281cea360f0ea1c5e.png\" alt=\"doge chart\"></img>\n\nIt's hard to find an altcoin chart that DOESN'T look like this these days, adding fuel to the theory that we are on the cusp of yet another <i>alt season</i> that will pump even the most neglected and worthless of altcoins.\n\nMore potent confirmation bias can be found looking at the Bitcoin Dominance Chart (BTC.D) which has relentlessly climbed higher since May and is now producing signs of pulling back.\n\n<img src=\"https://assets.coinmama.com/BitcoinDominanceChart.jpg\" alt=\"dominance chart\"></img>\n\nIs it time to move some of your long term bitcoin holdings in to Ether, Bcash and EOS? Probably yes. Even small investments of 0.01 BTC in Stellar or Cardano could make five or ten times returns. At this time I have secured a significant holding of Doge, enough to be sold for an entire bitcoin at the top of the market cycle. Omisego, Tezos, Holochain, Viacoin, Theta, Ravencoin and many others have seen 99% drawdowns and would produce amazing ROI if they were just to reclaim their prices as of March this year. A $1,000 investment could easily be worth one or two bitcoin at the height of an <i>alt season.</i>\n\nRemember to buy the dip, before it's not a dip any more.",

Even big names in the space such as the Winklevoss Twins are <a href=\"https://www.ccn.com/winklevoss-twins-bitcoin-needs-regulation-so-investors-dont-get-burned/\">calling for regulations to make crypto more \"safe.\"</a> Well I am sorry, but crypto already has its regulations spelled out: in whitepapers and github repositories. Trying to regulate cryptocurrencies <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_issues_with_BitTorrent\">will be as successful as trying to regulate bittorrent.</a> In the same way that the music industry was unprepared for napster, banks are unprepared for cryptocurrency. Crypto hasn't had its 'napster' moment yet: that is, it hasn't had the full force of a billion dollar industry bumping up against it just yet. Even if it had, I'm not sure how that would affect the price.</p>\n<p><a href=\"https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@cryptocope/bitcoin-bull-runs-are-predictable-more-are-on-the-way\">As I wrote in my last post,</a> I believe that digital assets like Bitcoin are extremely undervalued, and have the potential to be hundreds of times more valuable than their current market price. While this is my contention, I don't feel the same way about every crypto on the market.</p>\n<div class=\"pull-right\"><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/p/X37EMQ9WSwsK1aa2HqkH7E9ch6pFwSMseRm1tXJxPxqcYoWKoZZuk5gA79LmPgg76BNBttQxQest23RM28hGEbKii7TvNeNFAbZaE?format=match&mode=fit&width=300\" /></div>\n<p>Digital assets on a blockchain where the underlying protocol can be attacked are not a safe store of value and by any prudent buyer are considered worthless. Take Ethereum Classic for example: <a href=\"https://www.thestreet.com/investing/bitcoin/attack-against-ethereum-classic-14832327\">it was recently hit by a 51% attack</a> but this negligibly affected its price. This incident leads me to believe that many smaller projects are pumped up and kept running based on speculation alone, even in the middle of a crushing bear market.</p>\n\n<p>51% attacks can happen when it's possible for one person or one group to generate 51% or more of a blockchain's total hash power. On big blockchains such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, this is basically impossible, as the mining network is mature enough to prevent even sophisticated attackers from generating the amount of hash power possible for an attack. So was the ETC attack a one time event or a symptom of a bigger problem? <a href=\"https://www.crypto51.app/\">This website,</a> created by <a href=\"https://github.com/tdickman\">developer Tom Dickman</a> attempts to answer that question by comparing hash power between Proof of Work blockchain projects.</p>\n\n<center><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/p/RGgukq5E6HBS4jpZso4oCYBWtoiJoy6BT2LzRVAJe3MC3oitC4YSKPXG8TVj5tvYmhsVjauZ3ZzsuMb6s7dEa8dVcbyY7McYVQEXM8ZTeBxwRah1f1kxZ78MY3BnwEv?format=match&mode=fit&width=640\" /></center>\n<p>At the time of writing Ethereum Classic currently has a NiceHash score of 95%, and a one hour attack cost of less than four thousand dollars. It seems like no one is mining for ETC, which made it easy for attackers to take over the network. If there aren't miners securing the network why haven't more buyers moved away toward safer assets like Bitcoin?</p>\n<p>Developer support also seems lacking when we look at Ethereum Classic development activity on GitHub:</p>\n<center><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/p/RGgukq5E6HBS4jpZso4oCYBWtoiJoy6BT2LzRVAJe3MC3oitC4YSKPXG8TVj5tvYmhsVjauZ3NSKCxCmVDz7wsZeZoFYQybcZ4kue8wcyAE4aiVkhiqbSd7Pq3xxy6W?format=match&mode=fit&width=1200\" /></center>\n<br>\n<br>\n<p>ETC has had neglible commits since May, and zero commits since Mid-November. Why does this asset have a $450 million dollar market cap, if no one is developing or mining it? It's because many of these lesser known crypto projects are supported not by value but purely speculation.</p>\n<h1>The ironic part is, the speculators might be right.</h1>\n<br>\n<p>Not because Ethereum Classic is an amazing digital asset with killer dapps, but because it's not unlikely for greedy and naive investors to come back for another round of pumping cash into anything that smells like a blockchain.</p>\n<p>During the 2013 bull run, the field of top of the line cryptocurrencies looked a little different than it does today.</p>\n<center><img src=\"https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/0*4zhZOL9sgSHeYRlk\" /></center>\n<br>\n<p>Bitcoin? Check. Litecoin? Check. Namecoin? Peercoin? Novacoin? What the fuck?<br>The majority of cryptos on the 2013 top ten list are no-name coins today. Many top ten coins of 2019 may suffer the same fate as Namecoin, which was once the number three biggest cryptocurrency but sits at rank 202 today.</p>\n<p>Despite its fall from grace, small forgotten projects like Namecoin were still included in the 2017 bull run. While far from regaining its 2013 glory of $12+ per coin, it managed to rally from 25 cents up to $8.50 per coin.</p>\n<center><img src=\"https://screenshotscdn.firefoxusercontent.com/images/b9fdda4d-6f53-4476-af73-3d380fed6c8b.png\" /></center>\n<br>\n<p>Could a similar rally be in the cards for an unpopular project like Ethereum Classic, other altcoins and hundreds of small cap coins to make huge gains in the next few years? <br>Obviously the answer is yes.<br><br>Will you remember to take profits this time?<br><br>Maybe.       "body": "<img style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https://bitcoinist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/shutterstock_1018654609.jpg\"></img>\n\nCrypto has the potential to be bigger than internet. \n\nImagine walking up to a self driving car, opening an app, and in less than five minutes have a title on a phone, a payment plan set up and be driving away. That would be cool. Really cool. Imagine a world with one global market where arbitrage is impossible, where workers get paid what they're actually worth and the value of everything from a house to a used macbook have one indisputable value. Imagine needing expert advice, and instead of paying by the hour or the day you <a href = \"https://www.whenhub.com/about/\">pay a fraction of a cent for two minutes of advice.</a>\n\n<img style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https://www.webactivism.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/50ha3il1.png\"></img>\n\nThe possibilities for this new technology are exciting, but they don't lead to the mass mania that we've seen in 2013 and 2017. THAT gets driven by dreams of turning ten dollars, a hundred dollars into a moon lambo, telling your boss to go screw himself and driving up to your hollywood mansion with two bookshelves full of NAWLEGE.\n\nDespite two 100x bullruns, I can say confidently that we're still not too early. Let's run the numbers. The first thing we have to consider is that Bitcoin is a global currency, and while it would be a significantly sized currency in any one country we're looking at a much bigger scale. At the 2017 ATH Bitcoin had a market cap (total value) of around $300 billion. A lot, right? After all richest man Jeff Bezos <a href = \"https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/13/jeff-bezos-launches-day-one-fund-charity-how-he-spends-his-billions.html\">is only worth only $160 billion.</a> This isn't a great metric though, because big companies that serve a limited amount of countries (Apple, Alibaba, JP Morgan Chase) all have market caps between $350 billion and $1 trillion dollars. These numbers look even smaller if we look at whole markets, such as NYSE, Nasdaq, and Asian Stock Exchanges, which together are worth <a href = \"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stock_exchanges\">almost $50 trillion.</a>\n\nCrypto has a lot of room to grow. \n\nHow much room, you're wondering. Let's say, conservatively, that we should expect Bitcoin to have at least as much value as Gold. You can do a lot less with gold than you can with Bitcoin, but let's not get in to the weeds just yet. If someday Bitcoin is just as valuable to the market as gold, <a href = \"https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-will-pass-7-trillion-gold-market-cap-winklevoss-twins-say/\">(as some whales predict)</a> they would both have a market cap of <a href = \"https://www.gold.org/goldhub/research/gold-investor/gold-investor-september-2017/key-gold-market-statistics\">around $8 trillion.</a> Bitcoin with an $8 trillion market cap would price one coin at around $464,000 dollars.\n\nWhen might we see such prices? Bitcoin is becoming more predictable with age. Take a look at this chart and tell me what you see.\n\n<img style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https://www.tradingview.com/x/BOFX6WZQ/\"></img>\n\nThe last two bull runs have an interesting time interval between them, that is about two weeks short of exactly four years apart. For someone not well versed in Bitcoin, this time interval means nothing, but those with surface knowledge know <a href = \"https://www.mycryptopedia.com/bitcoin-halving-a-beginners-guide/\">each bitcoin halving event is exactly four years apart.</a> It's a reasonable assumption that we'll see the end of another big rally around four years from the last rally and so on, which would put the end of the third rally sometime at the end of 2021. \n\nHow big will it be though? Surely we won't see a Bitcoin mania twenty times bigger than what we saw in 2017, as baby boomers and other old money will be more reluctant to throw their money in to this asset to fuel another bubble like Millennials and Gen Z did. However, we have seen bubbles in new technology reach ridiculous proportions before, such as the Dot Com Bubble which reached <a href = \"https://money.cnn.com/2000/11/09/technology/overview/\">$2.948 trillion in value before popping.</a>\n\nThis next part is more an educated guess than anything else, but if you compare the bottom on each bear market to the ATH of each bull run we see another pattern: The bottom in 2015? Two hundred dollars. The top in 2017? Twenty thousand. The bottom in 2012? Twelve dollars. The top in 2013? Twelve hundred dollars.\n\nThe 2018 bear market is currently bottoming out. Where would a 100x from here put the Bitcoin price in 2021? \n$325,000 dollars. \n\nI don't know for sure where the next tops and bottoms will be\nbut I have my money on it.",
