The game has garnered an incredible amount of success, reportedly amassing more than 125 million players worldwide. In October 2018, Epic Games was valued at over $15 billion in its latest funding round. And most recently, they announced the launch of their Epic Store, a competitor to Steam.</p>\n<p>So it goes without question that if a game with this kind of mass appeal integrates cryptocurrency in any way, it's gonna be big news for the market.</p>\n<p>What does this mean for the long term? We can only speculate. Are they testing the waters with the intentions to expand their integration with crypto? Only time will tell. The small but fast growing crypto games market is starting to attract heavy weights who see huge potential in leveraging blockchain in the games of the future.\r\n\r\nNext generation game technology studio Mythical Games has secured $16 Million in its Series-A round. The company builds IPs and a digital ecosystem around player-owned economies, and the new funding will support the company’s first-to-market plans to develop and co-produce a slate of high-end game titles on mobile and PC consoles. The goal is to battle other players to determine which CryptoCurrency will rule supreme.\r\n\r\nWe had a chance to connect with the CryptoBlast team and learn more about their innovative project.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Q:  Can you tell me a bit of background about you and your team? What inspired you to get into blockchain / crypto games?</strong>\r\n\r\nA:  We are a mix of online and local friends who have been gaming for most of our lives.  Some of us are long-time game developers and others have worked with blockchain technology for countless hours.  Our game development experience is rooted in traditional 3D games with titles such as RAGE, DOOM (2016) and Wolfenstein II but we have also worked on a variety of mobile titles.  Some members of our team are also old-school crypto miners with experience in blockchain development going back to 2011.  In addition to this, we have a variety of contract artists and technical people helping out with our game as well.\r\n\r\nCombining traditional 3D gaming with the blockchain is something our team has wanted to do for a while and so working together on this felt like a natural fit.  For us, cryptoBLAST is about making a game that we would want to play.\r\n\r\n<strong>Q: Tell me about how the vision for cryptoBLAST came about. What inspired you to make a game like this?</strong>\r\n\r\nA:  The inspiration for our game comes from witnessing how competitive everything in this space has become since coins like Ethereum started gaining attention.  Crypto communities never stop arguing with each other in regards to their favorite altcoins.  We want to see what it would be like to have gamers facing off with each other while representing their favorite crypto.\r\n\r\nWe’re big fans of action-scenes that can be found in movies like Ready Player One.  We want players to feel the satisfaction of destroying their opponents while picking up crypto coins in battle at the same time.\r\n\r\n<strong>Q:  What is the basic gameplay, story, and marketplace of cryptoBLAST? How does the game and marketplace work?</strong>\r\n\r\nA:  The story is simple.  It is the future and humans are assumed dead.  Self-aware blockchains now seek to destroy each other for victory.  You are playing your part as a soldier in this ‘crypto war’.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https://cryptobitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/crypto-blast-screen.jpg\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3551\" src=\"https://cryptobitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/crypto-blast-screen.jpg\" alt=\"CryptoBlast\" width=\"1200\" height=\"604\" /><br/></a>\r\n\r\nThe game types available for open-beta will be Free-For-All and Team Deathmatch.  Players can expect to throw BLAST into a wagering pot before a battle begins.  Each player will begin a match with their customized weapon loadouts for different “phases” achieved during play.  There will be an urgency to attain successive phase levels as fast as you can when the match starts.  With higher levels, players unlock the true potential of their chosen load out including class-specific skills.\r\n\r\nThe marketplace will be host to a variety of items and weapon types ranging from standard fire weapons to rockets and bombs as well as close combat melee attachments.  The first version of the game will start with unlockable weapons attained during combat.  We will have more details about our marketplace, inventory, and upgrade system in the near future.\r\n\r\n<strong>Q:  What are some of the barriers you see ahead for your project and Crypto Games in general?</strong>\r\n\r\nA:  Instead of doing an ICO, we are working with a Proof-of-Work coin called BLAST.  We think part of the fun of crypto is to mine for it.  Starting from scratch creates a new set of challenges but it also allows for more freedom to try different things.  We’re open to technology partnerships where it makes sense for us.  As an example, BLAST recently joined with BlockNet and is now compatible with their cross-chain dApp platform.\r\n\r\nSome other challenges currently going on right now we feel are being experienced throughout most of the crypto scene is the perception of value.  While we think cryptocurrency and collectibles are a store of value, there still seems to be a lot of skepticism towards these ideas from people we talk to in the game industry.\r\n\r\nConvincing gamers that crypto games are worth their time is the biggest barrier in our minds.  We personally think more traditional 3D gaming experiences utilizing crypto will help bridge the gap.  That is the bet we are making.\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Q:  Tell me about your perspective on blockchain technology and games in general. What inspired you to make a game like this?</strong>\r\n\r\nGames have always been a big part of our lives, and right from the early days of MMORPGs, we’ve all been captivated by the vast universes these games provided us. This sadly also means we’ve all felt the frustration of never actually owning any of the items we spent thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars collecting in-game, and of always being limited by the universes the developers decided to create instead of being active participants in shaping the future of the game world.\r\n\r\nThat’s what we want to change with Ember Sword.\r\n\r\nIn Ember Sword, we enable the players to shape the vast in-game universe as Landowners, and rare cosmetics in scarce supply, like skins, emotes, and capes are gathered through gameplay objectives instead of bought from us – not to mention that players literally own these cosmetics, and they’re thus allowed to sell them to others directly within the game.\r\n\r\n<strong>What is the basic gameplay, story, and marketplace of Ember Sword? How does the game and marketplace work?</strong>\r\n\r\nEmber Sword is a new type of MMORPG where the player is truly in control of the experiences within. Players acquire tokenized cosmetics through gameplay, which they trade &amp; sell for PIXEL, and those who become Landowners evolve the world by placing resources, monsters, NPCs etc, and can turn a profit by creating services, like vendor marketplaces where other players buy in-game subscriptions, access land and cosmetic auctions, and more.\r\n\r\nCreate a character, pick a home region and venture out into the dangerous world with a bow, staff or sword to prove your worth in the classless combat system, build and rule the most popular piece of LAND by deciding where to place monsters, NPCs, or resources like ore or wood used for crafting, or explore the vast universe of Ember as you gather resources to craft and sell items to others in the player-driven economy.\r\n\r\nInstantly accessible through the browser, or as a desktop client, the Ember Sword shard server system creates a visually immersing persistent world - instead of splitting players into individual worlds and servers, which means you can always play with all of your friends.\r\n\r\nSo the marketplace works like this; players get rewarded scarce cosmetics through in-game activities, with new cosmetics every month as content updates, and they then trade these on the marketplace alongside parcels of LAND.\r\n\r\n<strong>What are some of the barriers you see ahead for your project and Crypto Games in general?</strong>\r\n\r\nTwo things: User-friendliness and scalability. The latter can be solved in many different ways already, but the former is the big one. Ember Sword is a game made for gamers, not (just) for crypto and blockchain enthusiasts. That means players should reap all the benefits of Ember Sword using blockchain technology, but never have to fully understand it. Things like ensuring that you don't need to install a plugin or download anything or create a wallet elsewhere before you can start playing are things we're spending a lot of time on.\r\n\r\nThe biggest barriers holding games using blockchain technology away from going mainstream, is the fact that we keep calling them blockchain games, crypto games etc. I'm not pointing fingers because if you look at our company website, you'll see that we're also at fault - but when approaching mainstream gamers, we have to stop using words like blockchain and crypto as the main selling points.\r\n\r\nGive us your perspective on the ingredients that makes a great \"blockchain game\"?\r\nA great blockchain game is any game that uses blockchain technology to add previously impossible gameplay experiences, solve an actual issue, or make something better or safer for the players, AND that doesn't let the fact that blockchain is used hinder or make the game less appealing in the eyes of actual gamers. This, I believe, is the correct reason to implement blockchain in a game.\r\n\r\nTo give just a single example from Ember Sword, we use blockchain technology to enable and make trading of cosmetics between players safe by not forcing players onto \"illegal\" black markets. Instead, everything is controlled through a marketplace smart contract.\r\n\r\n<strong>Tell me about your perspective on blockchain technology and games in general. Where is this all going? and why is it important to you?</strong>\r\n\r\nI believe we're moving towards a future where more and more free to play games with a heavy focus on cosmetics (e.g. Fortnite, Runescape etc.) will start adopting blockchain technology. This is particularly true for Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying (MMORPG) games, as the technology and smart use of NFTs can help solve some of the biggest issues the genre has had to deal with over the years.\r\n\r\nBlockchain technology will especially make a big difference for free to play MMORPGs, many of which are pay-to-win because they have \"cash shops\" where players can spend fiat to get items that provides them an advantage over others in-game. To us, blockchain represents an opportunity to forge an alternative path for games, away from predatory monetization and loot box gambling, towards a future where players have a permanent stake in their game world.\r\n\r\n<strong>What is your roadmap, and what plans do you have for the future for your team and your project?</strong>\r\n\r\nWe're just now about to enter our private pre-sale for the PIXEL Token, with a public crowdsale 3-4 months after the end of the presale. We will continue to release more details and early previews of the game until we reach the earliest alpha test, where people who own PIXEL will have fist priority to start testing the game. The game is already launched on Android.\r\n\r\nThe team has successful raised $1m for the game through crowdfunding. We had a chance to interview them to learn more about their innovative game, their vision, and the road ahead.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<strong>Can you tell me a bit of background about you and your team? What inspired you to get into blockchain / crypto games? </strong>\r\n\r\nThe core team members have been working together for ages. We were working on some startups including original Lordmancer which was a fully featured MMORPG for java cell phones and was launched in 2008. In 2014 we decided to develop its improved version - Lordmancer II. Original Lordmancer had an open game market from the game launched and players traded on it using soft and hard currencies. We saw that this feature was very popular among the players and in fact, it was probably the main metagame and in 2017 we realized that it could be well combined with blockchain. So we took our half-finished Lordmancer II and added cryptocurrency into it.\r\n\r\n<strong>Tell me about how the vision for Lordmancer II came about. What inspired you to make a game like this?</strong>\r\n\r\nWe were inspired by Heroes of Might and Magic, Kings Bounty, World of Warcraft, and our original Lordmancer which is still active even after 10 years in operation!\r\n\r\n<strong>What is the basic gameplay, story, and marketplace of  Lordmancer II? How does the game and marketplace work?</strong>\r\n\r\nThe basic gameplay consists of three main parts: tactical battles (both PvE and PvP), developing your hero and social activities. We have a lot of resources that are needed to increase your hero power and you need to travel in the open world, find proper enemies, accomplish quests and loot resources. Then you use these resources to craft equipment or upgrade your units. Social activities include clans, game chat, castle sieges and trading on the open game market. As the game contains a lot of different resources, it is almost impossible to get all of them by yourself. So you need to go to the market and trade with other players. If you have many rubins, you can sell them and buy some emeralds. That's the idea.\r\n\r\n<strong><a href=\"https://cryptobitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/lordmancer-2-blockchain.png\"><img class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3472\" src=\"https://cryptobitgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/lordmancer-2-blockchain.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1334\" height=\"750\" /><br/></a></strong>\r\n\r\n<strong>What are some of the barriers you see ahead for your project and Crypto Games in general?</strong>\r\n\r\nI see three main barriers:\r\n\r\nThe first one - the technology is not user-friendly at all. Just compare classical in-app purchases on Google Play and buying some crypto. Which one is easier?\r\n\r\nAnother barrier relates to almost non-existing regulations. As a result, application stores and publishers are afraid of projects with cryptocurrency.\r\n\r\nAnd the last one is the technology itself. All blockchains are still slow and expensive. You just can't create a pure blockchain game.\r\n\r\n<strong>Tell me about your perspective on blockchain technology and games in general. Where is this all going? and why is it important to you?</strong>\r\n\r\nOh, it is very difficult to make any predictions :) I don't know what will happen in a couple of years, probably we will see more disrupting technologies. And there will be new good opportunities for startups.\r\n\r\n<strong>What is your roadmap, and what plans do you have for the future for your team and your project? </strong>\r\n\r\nThe game is ready and launched on Android. Currently, we are focusing on marketing. An MMO game should have thousands of online players to use its potential. I think we will be busy enough with this project for the next couple of years :)\r\n\r\n<strong>Any key dates or milestones coming up that you would like to share? The goal is to fortify your island before going to battle with others. And a new game coming to the Tron Network. The game seems like it's a tamagotchi style game with a bunch of mini games added to it. Players first acquire an egg, which they need to hatch into a Monster. From there, players have a variety of things they can do with their Monster like, take them to the park, battle in the arena, and train them in the gym.\r\n\r\nThe art is cute and vibrant from what we can see so far. The team has been forging innovation in the blockchain game space for a while now. It was the first game we knew of that was building on the Tron Network. Players can purchase farm plots, grow crops, raise animals, and sell them on the marketplace. We tried Googling \"Decentraland partner program\", but couldn't find any information on what it is, but we did learn a bit about Chainbreakers.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nChainbreakers is a strategic role playing game set in a fictional and stylized rendition of Ancient Greece. The story revolves around a corrupt, evil government and the various factions of rebels - the players - who must join forces and cooperate in order to successfully topple the ruling class.\r\n\r\nAs players progress through the story, they are encouraged to explore the entire map of Decentraland in search of “questing areas” (hosted on parcels and estates distributed throughout Genesis City) where they can free slaves to recruit as soldiers in their armies, crawl dungeons in search of loot and powerful items, or enter battle with armies from the oppressive regime.\r\n\r\nBy the sounds of it, the game takes place IN Decentraland, but we're only speculating at this point.\r\n\r\nFor those interesting, Qwellcode is launching an NFT presale on <strong>November 1st, 12:00PM GMT</strong>.
