| body | I have no control over what my clicking finger does when it encounters a cat article, so here I am. Just looked at your blog listings as well. Cats & DC. Very nice, my friend. Very nice. Do you happen to be a big comic reader as well, or do you prefer to stick to the movies/TV shows? I'd love to see a comic tag start going on this site, as I would have so much fun writing about them. Maybe I'll just take a shot and start writing them anyways. It certainly can't hurt! Check out my intro post when you get the chance. I assure you there I have included both personal cat and DC comic material! Take care, fellow Steemer. https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@crsm/hi-steemers-i-m-chris-champion-of-eccentric-tastes-never-ending-knowledge-seeker-and-first-time-explorer-of-the-blockchain-this |

Nifty little Inspect Element shows me there is indeed a video embedded, but my security settings said no no no. Pulled out the embed, pasted into a new tab, edited the /embed/ to /watch?v= and taaaa daaa! "I don't know where it came from, but just pay the $400, okay?" We're all doomed :'D Thanks for this one, my friend. I have two finals in a few hours and this was just what the doctor ordered to give my brain a little break. PS: I assure you I'm not crazy, or blind. I actually wrote an article to combat privacy invasion the other day, and it seems to working wonderfully. Check it out if you get the chance! I'd truly love some non-bot feedback. | body | Very nice article. I'm certainly not the biggest fan of web design, but I am a fan of great content! You should maybe pop a reference link in there to something like w3schools, or Codecademy, as your comment section already indicates that you've inspired some fellow Steemers to get into web design. Upvoted for inspiration, and Followed for future content. Before I head back out into the madness that is the trending page, I wanted to leave a link to my last article here in the hopes that you could let me know what you think of it (conceptually it's very similar to your article) whenever you have the chance. I'd be more than appreciative for any feedback and the chance to share thoughts. Why? Well doing so gives the website you travel to a complete log of when you came over to their site as well as exactly where you came to their site from. Now that may not seem alarming in the least, but in an age where many of us have our entire lives mapped out across web different platforms that raised more than a few red flags on my end.

Many sites require the use of cookies to "optimize your browsing experience," and with a name like cookies they must be great, right? | body |
Click A Direct Link vs New Tab > Copy > Paste

I've spent more than my fair share of time traversing through anonymous message boards, and if there's one thing you're forced to learn early it's that you NEVER click directly on an outgoing link.

Wrong. Many people fail to realize what a cookie actually is and that some sites have even begun implementing the use of immortal cookies that cozy up on YOUR computer and record the movie that is your time spent online back to them.

Now how and why do cookies, website visitation logs, and the picture above have anything to do with each other? The picture is a cropped screenshot with some of the flags I was given of the 3rd party websites attempting to connect to my PC after doing no more than typing http://twitch.tv into my address bar and mashing the Enter key. Do some of those sites seem a little off? Well ask yourself "What are malicious cookies?" or look it up if you are unsure. Just kidding. Don't do that. I've already got the answer for you, friends.

These types of cookies can be used to store and track your activity online. Cookies that watch your online activity are called malicious or tracking cookies. These are the bad cookies to watch for, because they track you and your surfing habits, over time, to build a profile of your interests. Once that profile contains enough information there is a good chance that your information can be sold to an advertising company who then uses this profile information to target you with interest specific adverts.

Connection established.

So the entire internet is tracking my every move, selling my profile, and sharing my interests with whichever company pays them the highest dollar, for the purpose of making the highest dollar themselves? WHAT DO I DO? Thankfully I've pretended you asked, so that I can write this article to offer you an answer.

Protect Yourself. Easier said than done Easier done than said. In a few simple steps you can increase your privacy on the web by [very high number]%.

First and foremost your web browser is the key. Don't let yourself get caught up in the age old fan favorite Chrome vs Firefox battle. Install them all if you have to and find out which one works best for you. That's what I did and much of what read from here on out will be recommendations based off my personal experience.

Browsers

Mozilla Firefox

Compatibility: win32, win64, OS X, Linux-32, Linux 64-bit, Android, iOS

I'd prefer to not dive too deep into the details as Firefox has been a brand name for what seems like ages and their download site offers a plethora of specifics. "body": "
Click A Direct Link vs New Tab > Copy > Paste
\n
I've spent more than my fair share of time traversing through anonymous message boards, and if there's one thing you're forced to learn early it's that you NEVER click directly on an outgoing link. Why? Well doing so gives the website you travel to a complete log of when you came over to their site as well as exactly where you came to their site from. Now that may not seem alarming in the least, but in an age where many of us have our entire lives mapped out across web different platforms that raised more than a few red flags on my end.
\n

\n
Many sites require the use of cookies to "optimize your browsing experience," and with a name like cookies they must be great, right? Wrong. Many people fail to realize what a cookie actually is and that some sites have even begun implementing the use of immortal cookies that cozy up on YOUR computer and record the movie that is your time spent online back to them.
\n
Now how and why do cookies, website visitation logs, and the picture above have anything to do with each other? The picture is a cropped screenshot with some of the flags I was given of the 3rd party websites attempting to connect to my PC after doing no more than typing http://twitch.tv into my address bar and mashing the Enter key. Do some of those sites seem a little off? Well ask yourself "What are malicious cookies?" or look it up if you are unsure. Just kidding. Don't do that. I've already got the answer for you, friends.
\n
These types of cookies can be used to store and track your activity online. Cookies that watch your online activity are called malicious or tracking cookies. These are the bad cookies to watch for, because they track you and your surfing habits, over time, to build a profile of your interests. Once that profile contains enough information there is a good chance that your information can be sold to an advertising company who then uses this profile information to target you with interest specific adverts.
\n
Connection established.
\n
So the entire internet is tracking my every move, selling my profile, and sharing my interests with whichever company pays them the highest dollar, for the purpose of making the highest dollar themselves? WHAT DO I DO? Thankfully I've pretended you asked, so that I can write this article to offer you an answer.
\n
Protect Yourself. Easier said than done Easier done than said. In a few simple steps you can increase your privacy on the web by [very high number]%.
\n
First and foremost your web browser is the key. Don't let yourself get caught up in the age old fan favorite Chrome vs Firefox battle. Install them all if you have to and find out which one works best for you. That's what I did and much of what read from here on out will be recommendations based off my personal experience.
\n
Browsers
\n
\n
Mozilla Firefox
\n
Compatibility: win32, win64, OS X, Linux-32, Linux 64-bit, Android, iOS
\n
\n
I'd prefer to not dive too deep into the details as Firefox has been a brand name for what seems like ages and their download site offers a plethora of specifics. Why? Well doing so gives the website you travel to a complete log of when you came over to their site as well as exactly where you came to their site from. Now that may not seem alarming in the least, but in an age where many of us have our entire lives mapped out across web different platforms that raised more than a few red flags on my end.

Many sites require the use of cookies to "optimize your browsing experience," and with a name like cookies they must be great, right? | body | This is my second day here on Steemit and not only did I have a blast writing my first introduction post, but someone commented on it and their page led me here. I'm still new to the blockchain/cryptocurrency game, but a quick scroll through your blogs has me excited about this. Count yourself in for another 5 stars and a follow. I look forward to hopefully being able to contribute to your next community project. Thanks! |

| body | I see, well that's awesome! Maybe we'll bump into each other at some point! I'm still a bit in disbelief, but steem is becoming more real to me daily. Especially as I see **REAL** people give feedback and interact and post things about their lives/interests and get comments. It's a living, breathing machine and it's much better than most of what I've seen. So much potential! I guess you have a clone then lol, but happy to have you here on steemit, hope you find great success as very many people are! |
