Ozolini owner’s Brigita and Dima Lukini are opening their doors to those looking to escape the non-stop pace of the city and retreat back to nature. Surrounded by forest and its very own Lake Bezdibenė, the Teamakers Guest House is an ideal location for guests to restore their connection with nature. Often collaborating with meditation and eco-fitness retreats for visitors from countries around the world, Ozolini also hosts summer camps in which the secrets of medicinal herbs can be explored, and various self-awareness workshops take place. The Teamakers Guest House is planned for construction on the site of a stone barn and would need to include not only accommodation for guests, but also an inventive and eco-friendly use of the space for guests to participate in tea-making workshops, meditation, and yoga. The jury are looking for the Teamakers Guest House to act as an example of green building practices. Participants are tasked with focusing on eco-friendly and cost-effective methods to create an impressive multipurpose space that will further encourage ecotourism in the region. PRIZES 3 winning proposals and 6 honourable mentions will be selected. Bee Breeders will award a total of US $6,000 in prize money to competition winners as follows: 1st Prize – US $3,000 2nd Prize – US $1,500 3rd Prize – US $500 + 6 honourable mentions BB Student Award – US $500 BB Green Award – US $500 COMPETITION SCHEDULE Early Bird Registration: NOVEMBER 13 – JANUARY 8 Advance Registration: JANUARY 9 – MARCH 1 Last Minute Registration: MARCH 2 – MAY 3 Closing date for registration: MAY 3, 2019 Closing date for submission: JUNE 18, 2019 (11.59pm GMT) Announcement of the winners: JULY 23, 2019 http://competitions.archi/competition/teamakers-guest-house/

Artwork Location Description Atlanta-Fulton Public Library – Central Branch 1 Margaret Mitchell Sq NW, Atlanta, GA 30303 Site History The Atlanta Central Library building opened to the public under the leadership of Ella Gaines Yates, the first African-American director of the library system in May 1980. The building was designed by prominent Bauhaus-movement architect Marcel Breuer, with support from his associate Hamilton Smith. Breuer is considered to have been an extremely influential modernist designer and this commission became the last building he ever designed following his death one year after opening. The building reflects a brutalist architectural style, with a façade consisting of precast concrete panels that were bush-hammered for texture. In 2002, a major renovation of the Central Library was completed and the library system celebrated the centennial of the year in which public library service in Atlanta began. Eligibility Artists and artist teams with at least 5 years professional public art experience and legal residency in the continental United States are eligible to apply. bodyhttp://competitions.archi/competition/residential-stadium-adaptive-reuse/ Submission: November 21, 2018 Registration: November 21, 2018 Language: English Location: New York, USA Prizes: up to 20.000€ Type: Open The 2018 Soccer World Cup ended a few weeks ago. With it ends an intense month of an event that not only affects the sports world, but has direct repercussions in the economy, tourism or urban planning of the host country. On this occasion Russia was chosen to host the event. A total of twelve stadiums in eleven Russian cities have been built and renovated for the FIFA World Cup. But have you ever thought about what happens when Olympic arenas, World Cup stadiums or other costly sporting venues close at the end of the colourful events for which they were designed? Many go on to host local sports clubs. Others, though, become proverbial ‘white elephants’, scraping by as glorified parking lots, dirt tracks for stock-car racing and even, as in the case of Montreal’s spectacular Olympic Stadium, as a swine-flu vaccination centre. In RESIDENTIAL STADIUM: ADAPTIVE REUSE, Archstorming will analyze how architecture can provide solutions in stadium designs, so they can always be reused after the event has finished. · CHALLENGE · Archstorming is calling for proposals to design an adaptive stadium that could also be used as a residential building. Giving the fact that the World Cup 2026 will be held in North America (USA, Canada and Mexico), the project for the stadium will be located in New York City (USA). The proposed stadiums can: – Work as both sports arena and residential building at the same time. – Adapt to sports arena or residential building depending on the required use or – Convert to residential building permanently after the sports event has finished. The stadium could have the following (indicative) program: Soccer field, Stadium stands, Residential units (recommended size: 30 m2 to 100 m2), Restaurants, Offices, Shops and commercial spaces, Multipurpose spaces, Bathrooms, Gardens and public spaces. · SCHEDULE · JULY 18th REGISTRATION OPENS NOV 21st REGISTRATION CLOSES NOV 21st SUBMISSION DEADLINE NOV 21st – DEC 6th JURY DECISION DEC 6th WINNERS ANNOUNCED![PORTADA_letrablanca.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmW3Wna31i3KaMx7psceaNuwbXNYsrvmS6qNQp6PmjhTea/PORTADA_letrablanca.jpg)

Architecture and landscape are linked by a fundamental continuity that is now starting to fade, damaging the quality of the space we dwell. More than ever today, landscape is a precious heritage that architecture can and must enhance, while protecting it to pass it on to future generations: architects must not give up on working on landscape, instead they should be able to design architecture that responds to each landscape’s specific feature and generates wonderful and unique spaces. The Architecture for Landscape course is created on these premises: it aims at training designers who are able to meet the diverse needs of transforming territories, enforcing an attentive and productive dialogue with the surrounding landscape to respond to the needs of prestigious clients in outstanding contexts. Through a thorough analysis of the natural world, light and geomorphological features of terrains, the designers will become more and more able to reconnect human design to the natural environment and being inspired by landscape to design outstanding, sustainable and impressive architectures. The course aims at training professional designers who are able to intervene on astonishing and monumental natural contexts. Thanks to the workshop activities (also carried out during a 3-day visit to the amazing park of Arte Sella), the designers will be able to interpret the characteristics of the natural environment to transform it into a fine setting for elegant, sustainable and integrated architecture. The course aims at providing the students with skills that are immediately usable and at granting a focus on the choice of materials, technologies, elements of sustainability and care of different botanical items. Moreover, thanks to their internships in well-renowned professional firms, the students will gain an efficient link to the labor market. YACADEMY YAC is an association which promotes architectural competitions aimed at fostering culture and design research. Over the years, YAC has broadened its experience of work and collaboration with the main architectural firms of contemporary architecture, dealing with diverse and numerous topics of architectural design. Nowadays YAC’s expertise can serve young designers better, providing them with the creation of high-level educational programs aimed at polishing the skills of the students and offering them a valuable connection to the labour market. Thanks to the close relationship with internationally renowned professional and academic actors, YAC is the perfect frame within which complete or specialize one’s skills and create a significative link with the most internationally-renowned architectural practices. The courses will take place at YACademy’s headquarters: a historical building located in the heart of Bologna historical city center, close to the Two Towers and next to Piazza Santo Stefano, undoubtedly one of the most picturesque corners of the city. 109 HOURS OF LESSONS INTERPRETING LANDSCAPE | 12 hours How to interpret places between land art and architecture Emanuele Montibeller, founder Arte Sella WELLNESS IN NATURE | 6 hours Saunas and swimming pools: outdoor and wellness Design Unit Starpool THE CITY WITHIN LANDSCAPE | 12 hours Relationships, challenges and interdependence between natural and artificial Paolo Iotti, co-founder Iotti + Pavarani Architetti BIOCOMPATIBLES MATERIALS | 12 hours How to choose materials according to the landscape Markus Scherer, founder Markus Scherer SUSTAINABLE DESIGN | 12 hours Principles of environmental sustainability in prestigious landscape contexts Edoardo Milesi, founder edoardo milesi & archos DESIGNING GREENERY | 9 hours Characteristics and needs of different botanical items Antonio Perazzi, founder Studio Antonio Perazzi LIGHT DESIGN | 12 hours Natural and artificial lightning connected to landscape Virginia Della Casa, lighting designer PSLab BUILDING WITH TIMBER | 18 hours Techniques and possibilities of building with timber Angelo Marchetti, CEO Marlegno CASE HISTORY | 16 hours Successful examples of landscape interventions Manuel Orazi, professor University of Bologna SPECIAL LECTURES • The “BOSCO VERTICALE” / Sara Gangemi – STEFANO BOERI ARCHITETTI, Milan • WATER AND ARCHITECTURE: Oslo Opera House / Patrick Lüth – SNØHETTA, Oslo • SANCTUARIES WITHIN A LANDSCAPE: the Ruta del Peregrino / Simon Frommenwiler – HHF, Basel • ELQUI DOMOS: between sky and architecture / Rodrigo Duque Motta – DUQUE MOTTA & AA, Santiago de Chile • CONTEXTUALIZING ARCHITECTURE: the Louvre Abu Dhabi / Livia Tani – ATELIERS JEAN NOUVEL, Paris • MUSEU PAULA REGO: between art and nature / Eduardo Souto De Moura – EDUARDO SOUTO DE MOURA, Porto • ETHEREAL ARCHITECTURE / Edoardo Tresoldi, Milan • FOGO ISLAND INN: new hermitages / Todd Saunders – SAUNDERS ARCHITECTURE, Bergen 60-HOUR WORKSHOP ART IN NATURE Design of a prototype of an art residence in “Val di Sella” Matteo Agnoletto, professor University of Bologna Emanuele Montibeller, Curator and Founder of Arte Sella INTERNSHIPS At the end of the lessons, the students are guaranteed an internship in one of the professional firms relevant to the course topic. bodyhttp://competitions.archi/competition/taichung-city-yuxian-tree-house-international-student-design-competition/ In western architectural history, dwelling is the most important building type as the purpose of architecture returns from divinity to human needs. At the same time, dwelling is the spatial typology that one occupies for the longest time on a daily basis. However, due to the changes in our living environment, dwelling – our home, that comprises of our emotions – is gradually turning into a merchandize with a price tag. We would like to reexamine the essence of home as well as the relationship between tectonic and environment through the concept of building a new home for our society, and thereby recovering and reflection on the most fundamental human needs for dwellings and the natural world. Tree – Grows from the ground, a characterization of life and convergence in the nature. House – Constructed by Material, a place to live and fulfill our dreams and ideas. But in our environment, there are few chances for us to truly experience a space constructed with natural elements. Inspired from the concept of Yuxian section social residence – First a community, then a park, last a city. Combining space and structure with trees is not only an achievement of construction, but also a way to link nature and architecture together with design. Starting from this concept, we are expecting young talents to evaluate and think over issues such as how can we bring diversity of the activities held in the tree house and the neighborhood together? How can difference be provided with variety? What is the possibility of the relationship between material and space in this case? We are seeking for an activity space linked with the region and let the residents, neighborhood and citizens in Taichung City have a wonderful spatial experience. SITE ADDRESS Yuxian section, Taiping district, Taichung City, Taiwan (south end of Yucai Road, Taiping district). SITE INFORMATION Yuxian section is near a crossroad formed by two main streets, the site is also planned for the Taiping District Yuxian section social residence (Second phase). This social residence project hopes to enhance the communication between people and people, then to form the community into a “Micro City” through the open spaces and multi-functional rooms. The goal of the social residence projects in Taichung City is to create a “comfort living city”. The apartments will be rent out temporary to young talents, students, labor and disadvantaged social groups with a short term contract of 3 years. In this period, the residents should improve their skills and then be able to find a suitable residence of their own later. DESIGN GUIDELINES The site is located separately at the north-east and south-west plaza of the Taiping District Yuxian section social residence (Second phase). Therefore, the overall design should continue the intention of the regional planning. The major guiding points are comfort, interaction, sustainability, circular economy, and energy saving. Since the first place design will be realized, please take the budget of 1 million NTD into consideration. ELIGIBILITIES 1. Participants, not limited in Taiwan, must be undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and other related fields of study with degree expected date no earlier than January 31st, 2018. 2. The eligibilities of the participant must be enrolled in an accredited university or college as a full-time student, and actively taking classes. Students of “college/program designed for working professionals”, “School of Extension Education”, “Community Learning Center”, Tutoring/Educational Center”, “Test Preparation Center” and “School of Professional Education & Continuing Studies” are not eligible to participate in this competition. 3. Please only register as individual or group of two participants. Multiple submissions or registration under others’ names would be voided. 4. bodyGuide to Australian Working Visas for Architects Australia needs qualified Architects. This geographically diverse continent with constantly evolving fusion of cultures is a perfect challenge for creative professionals. If you’re one of them, then your skills are currently in demand. If you haven’t turned 31 years old yet you may apply for Work and Holiday visa which allows you to work and travel around the country for up to a year. Otherwise, getting an Australian working visa is not easy. The vast majority of architecture firms will not hire you unless you have Permanent Residency status. However, it’s not impossible that a company would be willing to sponsor your working visa. Whichever way of getting an Australian working visa you choose, it’s worth to consider this destination as it is one of the top countries for architect to work in (http://jobs.archi/2016/08/01/5-best-countries-for-architects-to-work-in/). Read below to find out more about the most common types of visa for foreign architects to live and work in Australia. Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) Probably the easiest way for young architects to work legally in Australia. Work and Holiday visa is a temporary visa that encourages cultural exchange and closer ties between Australia and eligible countries (see the list below). It allows you to stay in Australia for up to one year, however, under this visa you can generally only work six months with one employer. Requirements You might be able to get this visa if you: are at least 18 but not yet 31 years of age don’t have a dependent child with you at any time during your stay in Australia have a passport from: Argentina Bangladesh Chile China, People’s Republic of Indonesia Israel Malaysia Poland Portugal Slovak Republic Slovenia Spain Thailand Turkey USA Uruguay This visa allows you to: stay in Australia for up to 12 months work in Australia, generally for up to six months with each employer study for up to four months leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid There is an annual limit on the number of first Work and Holiday visas granted to each country. The visa programme year starts on 1 July each year. Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) If you’re looking for employer to sort out all the issues with your visa status the subclass 457 is for you. This is the most commonly used programme for employers to sponsor overseas architects to work in Australia on a temporary basis. Under subclass 457 visa you can: work in Australia for a period of between one day and 4 years bring any eligible dependants with you (your spouse, partner, child etc.) travel in and out of Australia while the visa is valid. There are 3 processing stages of the subclass 457 visa application: Sponsorship: The employer applies for approval as a sponsor. Nomination: The employer nominates an occupation for you Visa application: After being nominated you can apply for the subclass 457 visa As a primary holder of a subclass 457 visa you must: work in the occupation for which you were nominated commence that work within 90 days of arrival in Australia or within 90 days after the visa was granted not cease employment for a period of more than 90 consecutive days not engage in work that is inconsistent with the licence, registration or membership The Skilled-Independent visa (subclass 189) The subclass 189 is a permanent residence visa for points-tested skilled architects who want to work and live in Australia. No matter which type of visa there is a huge amount of paperwork to complete, a lot of details to check and tons of documents to provide. Basically, you have two options for sorting out Australian working visa application procedure: You can dig through the government website yourself, find a visa that fits your circumstances and go through the process yourself. The government website has all the info you need, the visa finder, the instructions, the application forms, dedicated tools… It is complicated but it’s all there. If only you are patient enough and determined to get it you can make it. The other option is to get professional help from approved visa agent. You do not need to use a migration agent to lodge a visa application. However, if you do not feel confident lodging an application, or if your case is complex it might be better to get professional help. If you choose to use a migration agent, you should use a registered migration agent to protect yourself from scammers. You can find a registered migration agent here: www.mara.gov.au To learn more on how to apply for work visas in Australia click here : http://www.border.gov.au If this article inspired you to seek for job opportunities in Australia, you can explore the latest Aussie architecture job offers at jobs.archi | Australia jobs I hope this post gives you a clearer sense of the Australian work visa procedure, and a better look at best visa options for architects. The government website has all the info you need, the visa finder, the instructions, the application forms, dedicated tools… It is complicated but it’s all there. If only you are patient enough and determined to get it you can make it.\n\n The other option is to get professional help from approved visa agent. bodyIn October 1959, when the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum opened the doors to its new building on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, it promptly became “the obligatory topic of every New York conversation The last built work by Frank Lloyd Wright, who had died earlier that year at 91, was not showered with praise, as one might now expect, but pelted with criticism. Almost everyone felt that the architecture of the museum dominated the paintings and the art inside. Such was the power of FLW’s architecture. Wright’s building made it socially and culturally acceptable for an architect to design a highly expressive, intensely personal museum. In this sense, almost every museum of our time is a child of the Guggenheim. What if you get a chance to switch FLW’s masterpiece with your own expression of Guggenheim? What if you get a chance to step into the master’s shoes and be able to design an ‘architectural icon’? The aim of the competition is to re-create the iconic museum in NYC by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright at the same exact site but with an entirely new perspective by the participants. The competition offers a chance to re-design the museum created by the master himself, with a similar intent to break from the prevalent conventionality in designing a museum and gallery space and create an innovative and extraordinary built form. The in-situ replacement of the existing museum should be iconic and revolutionary, capable of transforming the urban form of NYC in a similar or a more powerful way. The response should be FLW-like, where he constantly strived to devise new architecture systems that were ahead of his time and were hailed as wonders of the modernist movement. PRIZES Prizes worth EUR 3000 are up for claim with the distribution as follows: FIRST PRIZE: EUR 1500 SECOND PRIZE: EUR 1000 THIRD PRIZE: EUR 500 Apart from the winners, the jury will select ’10 Editors’ Choices’ who will be featured on our website and several other international magazines and websites across the world. bodyeVolo Magazine is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Skyscraper Competition. The Jury selected 3 winners and 27 honorable mentions from 526 projects received. The annual award established in 2006 recognizes visionary ideas- projects that through the novel novel use of technology, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations, challenge the way we understand vertical architecture and its relationship with the natural and built environments. The FIRST PLACE was awarded to Skyshelter.zip designed by Damian Granosik, Jakub Kulisa, and Piotr Pańczyk from Poland. The project is a foldable skyscraper inspired by origami that could be easily transported and deployed in disaster zones. Jinja: Shinto Shrine Skyscraper designed by Tony Leung from Hong Kong received the SECOND PLACE. The project aims to restore the traditional interactions between a Shinto Shrine and the local people- an urban building for rice farming, spiritual meditation, and community development. The recipient of the THIRD PLACE is Claudio C. Araya Arias from Chile for the project Waria Lemuy: Fire Prevention Skyscraper. This proposal envisions a new prototype for vertical housing in areas damaged by wild fires in Chile. The project makes use of passive systems to mitigate wind and disperse water to prevent new fires. The honorable mentions include Sandscrapers that prevent desertification, floating skyscrapers that transform ocean water into fresh water, towers that collect fog in arid regions, 3-D printed buildings, and volcano skyscrapers among other visionary proposals. 1st prize Damian Granosik, Jakub Kulisa, and Piotr Pańczyk / Poland / ![_1_1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSwnjVmPdksLREpz69LMCeNA55qWXSFAmRktBFozwDuWY/_1_1.jpg) ![_1_2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVuVdiXGKm2ZciVAYqsnPVieenQ8nk5qnKx6TG9Uh4VPk/_1_2.jpg) More and more natural disasters happen annually across the world. When dealing with forces so powerful, standard means of crisis-management often prove to be inefficient. Whether certain region is struck by earthquake, flood or hurricane – help needs to arrive quickly. This is often easier to be said than done, as damages to transportation infrastructure or remote localization can make it extremely difficult. The Skyshelter.zip tries to address these issues by proposing structure that while offering large floor surface is compact, easy to transport anywhere and can be deployed with minimum amount of time and manpower requirements. It is meant to serve as multi-purpose hub for any relief operation. EASY TRANSPORTATION The Skyshelter.zip is extremely easy to move due to its unique qualities. The entire structure is foldable in a manner that resembles origami or accordion. This means it can be neatly packaged into single relatively small box with minimum height and base dimensions reduced to building’s footprint. Then such a package can be moved anywhere with help of helicopters commonly used by rescue teams and military in the event of a natural disasters. Because elements do not have to be transported in batches by trucks, it is easier and faster to reach zones cut off from the transportation network. SMALLER FOOTPRINT Perhaps the biggest advantage of stacking vertically all functions required in zone affected by natural disaster is reducing the area that is being occupied by them. Skyshelter.zip’s footprint is on average over 30 times smaller than area required to host typically used tents or containers. This means that much less cleanup work is required prior to setting up the camp. This is especially important in densely populated areas but elsewhere means that it is going to be possible to set up those temporary shelters closer to victims original homes. INSTANT DEPLOYMENT Just as easily as it can be transported, the Skyshelter.zip can be effortlessly and instantly deployed even on unstable soil. Little to none groundwork is required as after anchoring basic supports to the ground the structure unfolds thanks to large load-bearing helium balloon placed within (thus protected from external forces). This process is also easily reversible. Light-weight 3D-printed slabs are attached directly to balloon in succeeding manner and pulled upwards by its load-bearing force and structural steel wires that once strained are capable of resisting horizontal wind forces. In turn, internal and external walls are in fact pieces of fabric attached to slabs that unfold as the structure get deployed. SCALABILITY AND REPURPOSING Depending on amount of gas poured into the balloon, one can control the number of floors that are unfolding. This way, with single, mass produced module it is possible to attend different-scale, unpredictable events. FUNCTIONS Based on particular cases’ needs various functions can be accommodated inside, including reception area, first aid area, temporary housing, storage and vertical farm that uses soil gathered during anchoring. Additional advantage of producing vertical emergency camp is its height, partially achieved thanks to the size of the balloon. It allows for the structure to serve as a landmark, visible from large distances helping guide people affected by catastrophe straight to the relief center. SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES Taking advantage of large external surface area, use of nanomaterial based on ETFE foil and infused with network of small perovskite solar cells was proposed. This way, the building is capable of producing clean energy especially needed in case of emergency. Similarly, balloon located on top is shaped in such a way, that rainwater is able to flow through its hollow center where it is being cleansed by specialized filters and collected for further use. 2nd prize Tony Leung / Hong Kong / ![_2_2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfHkvKAq1mdFywgxXUqVE1t4Vq4NKHGceUZk21c6C5D34/_2_2.jpg) The objective of this proposal is to restore the traditional interactions between Jinja (Japanese Shinto Shrine) and local people by reterritorizing a busy urban corner in Ginza, Tokyo with a vertically organized Jinja cum rice-farming complex. In the past, Jinja and rice farming were the center of Japanese economy. The paddy field and Jinja complex also served as centers of everyday interaction. Many local Jinja not only housed the relevant Kami (deities) but also served as a warehouse for harvests. Also, the biggest communal festival, Matsuri, happened during spring seeding and autumn harvesting. As cities expand, both rice farming and Jinja remains in the shadow of urban livings. Jinja complex is overshadowed by modern skyscrapers. However, more than two centuries ago, according to some ancient manuscripts, Izumo Shrine was said to be reaching 96m high above ground i.e. a historical origin of skyscraping Jinja (…) 3rd prize Claudio C. Araya Arias / Chile / ![_3_1.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYcZYPgrCWVGiCyzWy9wzcEjgRWMxJfjuyGX88thcd5pX/_3_1.jpg) ![_3_2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVQGEXdXKV4P8JNXxjoTUk1SEppKBe9XivXEpH5sxeuqh/_3_2.jpg) Forest fires are one of the greatest agents of degradation of ecosystems in the world. Although fire is part of the natural dynamics of some habitats, large disturbances cause a deterioration of their functionalities. Fire modifies biogeochemical cycles, produces changes in vegetation, soil, fauna, hydrological and geomorphological processes, water quality and even changes in the composition of the atmosphere. Each of these elements puts at risk not only the existing geography, but also directly threatens population centers, putting at risk the lives of people, their goods, infrastructure, among other things. The 2016-2017 season of forest fires left a record of destruction never before recorded in the south-central zone of Chile. The consequences of the above were 5,244 fires with an impact of 569,989 hectares, 2,500 homes. The most serious case was the one in the town of Santa Olga, where the destruction exceeds 1,000 homes, destroying the entire city. Reconstruction is an indisputable subject, but the existing model of growth by expansion left a clear vulnerability within the territory. The degraded soils, and the decrease of the vegetation among other variables produced by this settlement model, were part of the factors that modified the natural conditions, leaving the sector vulnerable (…) http://competitions.archi/competition/results-winners-evolo-2018-skyscraper-competition/![_1_2.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVuVdiXGKm2ZciVAYqsnPVieenQ8nk5qnKx6TG9Uh4VPk/_1_2.jpg)
