bodyAnyone in the crypto space for more than 24 hours is aware that scams get media attention . . . after the fact. The question which needs some attention is how to spot these scams before it gets too late. Website. White Paper. Team. The triangle of an ICO is the starting point when doing your own research (DYOR). Depending on your faith in media, you can also check out Twitter feeds, Reddit, Medium, LinkedIn, and chat groups such as Telegraph. And finally check out their GitHub coding action. Just be aware that all this stuff can be outsourced, faked and just plain garbage. News articles can be bought (Payola). YouTubers can receive bounties for promotions (without declaring that the fabulous review was sponsored). A quick check of the marketing budget in the White Paper can be a good indicator of how much hot air has inflated the importance of any project. Let's go back to one of the first three items of the DYOR Triangle. Fake Teams are more common than what you might imagine. Nextblock (created by Alex Tapscott) falsely claimed that Kathryn Haun, Vinny Lingham, Dmitry Buterin and Karen Gifford were all on board and then raised a bunch of money and then had to give it all back. https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/nextblock-ceo-alex-tapscott-cancels-plans-go-public-and-will-return-money-investors/ Here is another example regarding the advisory Team for Molecule. A number of experts are listed on the site but as those advisors are currently discovering their role via Twitter, they are announcing that they are in no way affiliated with the project. So not only are fake ICOs making fake websites, but they are also creating fake teams. What are real people who get listed as advisors to do? Andreas Antonopoulos has gone so far as to put a disclaimer on his site: Also, I do not allow my reputation to be used for marketing. While I do work as an advisor for a few companies, they are prohibited from using my name in public. I do not endorse, promote or speak about companies, products or ICOs, upon request. I speak only about the technologies that I use or study and only as technologies, not companies or investment opportunities. I find those myself and do not need or want prompting. https://antonopoulos.com/promotion/ Scammers are counting on you to be lazy and not do research. They will promote their project using every trick in the book to get your attention and your money. Bottom line, you are responsible for you. Never let your desire for a quick buck lead you to make poor decisions. If you find out that something is fake, then share that information so we can all learn how to protect ourselves in the future. bodyBitcoin's reputation is that it is used by money launderers to wash their illicit gains.  BUT in the global marketplace, "less than one percent of all transactions entering conversion services" fall under this 'dirty bitcoin' category. The public opinion game is loud and in a constant struggle between some well financed players.  The anti-crypto gang uses whatever information it can to sway public opinion against the movement and to support their pro-establishment agenda. The pro-cryptos do understand that the dark web was an early adopter and that it did provide methods for criminal activities over the years, however, the following report shows that cryptos are not the evil enablers which certain identities have lead you to believe. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ (FDD) Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance (CSIF) and the cryptocurrency analytics firm Elliptic have released a detailed report (see link below) about how the crypto exchanges, mixers, ATMs and gambling services have taken part in money laundering. The report tracks bitcoin movements between 2013 to 2016. Only 0.61% of the money entering conversion services during the four years analyzed were verifably from illicit sources, with the highest proportion (1.07 %) seen in 2013.  Surprise, surprise more than 99% of all bitcoin movement is done by 'normal' people doing 'normal' things all over the world. Less than 1% of the total transactions is by criminals who rely on exchanges (54%), mixers (18%) and gambling sites (20%) to launder their 'dirty bitcoins' back into FIAT. Jurisdiction is also covered in the report. Notably, in the four years covered, it is shown that Asia has decreased its laundering share from 7% in 2013 down to 1% in 2016, meanwhile Europe has gained from 43% in 2013 to 57% in 2016. What needs to be explored further is that there were unknown jurisdictions providing 36% of total services in 2016. The report concludes with recommendations to further improve AML on gambling sites, European exchanges and in developing countries in order to decrease the total circulation of 'dirty bitcoins'. Additionally, the report suggests that clients must be further warned about transacting on the dark web by increasing police presence on specific sites. So what are the takeaways on all this . . . At the end of 2016, bitcoin's market cap was 15.6 billion USD (CMC). If less than 1% was tainted, then it equates to 156 million USD at maximum and thus 0.0078% of the approximately 2 trillion of US Dollars laundered yearly by criminals (UNODC). Should the evil 1% be allowed to continue their dealings and thus negatively dominate crypto's reputation? Of course not. But they are are counting on the fast growing market, misinformed public and disorganised governments to maintain the mess so they can just sit back and continue their criminal endeavours. Since January 2017, the cryptocurrency market cap has exploded, multiple hacks have been reported, ransomware has struck internationally, scam ICOs have become commonplace and the opening of the futures market has brought even more investors looking for quick gains under the guise of crypto adoption. Irresponsible media continues to shout 'fire' and cause panic where none truly exists. Obviously, the dark net is a continuing source of funds coming into the exchanges, mixers and gambling sites but that percentage is falling too from 99% in 2013 down to 78% in 2016. And this is what is troubling. Illicit funds are penetrating the 'normal' web and circulating more openly than previously recorded even with all the rules in place. Either internet companies are not complying with AML/KYC standards or those standards are not working in the real world. This further proves that more regulations are not the solution if 'good' individuals cannot make sense of them, if compliant exchanges cannot train employees fast enough to meet client demand or if criminals will simply discover ways around those regulations as quickly as they are implemented. The regulatory focus must change. By establishing clear and logical tax guidelines, allowing full participation by eliminating prejudiced qualified investor programs, and by stopping the government/industry/banking backed FUD surrounding crypto users, the marketplace will continue to clean up the remaining 1% on its own. The majority of resources should thusly, be turned towards supporting the 99% of good crypto clients to stay clean rather than chasing the 1% of 'dirty bitcoin' launderers profiting from this regulatory mess of the current crypto marketplace.  Reposted with permission from: https://fyreum.org/2018/01/16/bitcoin-and-money-laundering/ Sources note: all statistics are from the following report unless indicated otherwise. http://www.defenddemocracy.org/content/uploads/documents/MEMO_Bitcoin_Laundering.pdf

bodyBurn-out happens to anyone who does not take care of themselves. You have only one body which you cannot trade on an exchange. Your Market Cap is 1.0 and you will never be an ICO. Whatever your investment strategy may be, please remember to sleep and eat and take breaks from all the crypto craziness. Another day in crypto land where the markets went a little crazy and traders reacted in multiple ways. Check out the Reddit thread below (cmc_just_tumbled_the_whole_market_with_one_move/) Spectre06 - The issue is that the crypto market moves incredibly fast and runs 24/7. People wake up and see massive red across all of CMC (CoinMarketCap.com), it creates a panic response pretty easily. Not saying panic selling is smart, people just do dumb things to try and protect their money. I just can’t believe they did it without even announcing it. Kind of reckless TBH hattothemoon - I think markets being open all the time is part of the appeal Spectre06 - It is. It’s also a major part of the anxiety. Market close gives people time to think, reflect and plan. In crypto, you always have to be on guard. bravo_pooper - Think about it this way: half the world is always asleep, meaning only half the market can be idiots at any one time.  Thethirdtoken - Joke's on you, I NEVER SLEEP! Edgecloser - Joke's on you, I am an idiot all the time. AVLights06 - Its stressful and people are losing sleep. ddoubles - It's a vicious circle. People will indirectly die from this mania, the ones who survive will evolve us into a sleepless humans. landmindboom - We're not even in our final form, guys. chillip135 - People who are losing sleep and stressful shouldn't be investing. So what is your plan? Before you invest, make sure you have enough FIAT to cover your expenses (up to 3 months). Invest only what you are willing to lose - Yes this is highly pessimistic but the risk is real. Invest only in projects you feel you understand. This will allow you to ride the waves of the market because you believe in the technology, team, roadmap, white paper... Even if you see a huge swing or announcement, realise that the market is getting more resilient to any one change. What was dramatic six months ago becomes a relatively small dip when you expand the picture. Take a break from the screens everyday. They will still be there when you come back. Just like the dopamine hits that social media have purposely marketed for years, the never ending stream of crypto information can be just as addictive. If you are just starting out, take some time to educate yourself about the market swings, media objectivity and how to evaluate an ICO. Get your sleep. Balance your blood sugar. Breathe. bodyWhat a crazy ride. These last two weeks have been a repetition of read, write, edit, post...over and over again. Slowly, a number of individuals have become testers on the site. Getting absolutely no help from me and then reporting back any issues. It is great to have bug finders and even better to understand how differently people try to solve issues on their own. Things that are completely normal to me do not even enter as an option for some while others have created techniques that are absolutely incredible. Day 19 - People are brilliant. You just need to give them some space to prove it. 1. Token created 2. Exchange set 3. Server set for direct access 4. Security scans on all plugins active 5. Started 2018 with a smile I can't wait you you to come on board and find your rewards too. We will see you on the platform in a few hours ;) Happy New Year to Everyone. bodyIt is the holiday season. I have many memories of watching the Christmas tree lights blinking away but this year all the blinking is coming from cryptocompare.com. So many red and greens and blues are flashing for those altcoins today… and George Michael’s Last Christmas is playing non-stop in my head. Yesterday, was a forced day off. Even though I worked through some ideas, I really tried not to look at the markets or read the latest stories. One article did make me rather pissed off though as it was about a woman in NY and terrorist funding and some anti-bitcoin voices as it was providing a method to launder funds. What made me mad was that she has be granted bank loan 22.5K and had used multiple credit cards to buy cryptos totalling 65K of USD. How the frig does someone get approved for that kind of debt within a 3-month window? How can credit card have those kind of limits – are there not daily and weekly charge limits? If banks and credit cards had better debt screening then she would not have qualified for such transactions in the first place. The real issue is why do banks allow this behaviour? Why do banks allow people to go into debt so easily. Crypto purchases are heading down a slippery slope – credit card purchases, second mortgages, lending platforms…we are allowing those FIAT banking problems into the crypto space. Gotta be careful. Lesson 18 – I have opinions which are completely different than many in the crypto space 1) Wrote many articles 2) Watched some YT which were outside my comfort zone 3) Doodled a bit for logo design 4) Planned flights for next month’s meetings overseas 5) Watched as Market Cap passed 600B Now that the design stuff is finished, the inner layers are all more so an exploration of my opinions and viewpoints. Some issues will be more electric than others, but I am trying to stay neutral on most. I know not everyone will be happy, but that is a good thing for if everyone agreed then we wouldn’t need all to be here. bodyAll the token info is blending in my head. Today started out well but then as I was diving deeper into the wallet issues for new users, I became very entangled in the customer service pages for the platform. Certain questions by other project developers raised concerns and meant that I was exposed to some possible risk too. 90% of the day was thus spent in research mode. I was able to find answers for a few questions, but I made a direct email to the platform to ask for some help on the sticky stuff. Under no circumstances do I want my Members to have issues which could be prevented if I make certain changes now while the site is still closed. I guess all my years as a lifeguard truly instilled a sense of safety first. It is of course easier to yell at the kids running on the deck rather than fishing them out of the pool with their blood and tears. Yeah, slippery surfaces and running feet are never a good match. Kinda matches the image of most newbies and ICO interactions… Lesson 17 – Make the best choices you can with the best information you’ve got 1) Researched all friggin day Time for bed. Tomorrow there will be more coffee and a better perspective. Perhaps my subconscious will use that inner success mechanism and create something fabulous to start the day. bodyThe day started with the news of the ethereum robbery and then I saw the Nicehash funds moving out of the account. Feels unfair to be having my production team all revved up on my stuff and not being able to do anything for those guys. Perhaps one day I will be able to lend a hand but until then I must keep focused. There came a moment today when I was testing the information flow from a Newbie’s perspective. It was kinda fun but very heart wrenching to be clicking around trying to mess up my own system. All systems go. How sweet it is to finally see your little precious work in progress become self-sufficient for the first time. I have seven days until outsiders will truly be able to mess it up so perhaps I will stumble on some other issues but for now all is ok while I am increasing the layers. Lesson 16 – The crypto world is moving at an unbelievable pace. Don’t try to keep up with everything just find your niche. 1) Testing from a Newbie perspective 2) Polished some text for readability 3) Finished 5 posts 4) Finished more tag definitions 5) Updated deeper inter linking between active pages and new posts Searching for problems is horrible. We tend to find them when we don’t look so when the time comes to actual find errors then we see all the good stuff. Backward looking progress is still progress. See you tomorrow. bodyThe first time user experience is very important. There was a great article I read about MVP – the minimal valuable product. Anyone who has been reading white papers, understands that too many ICOs are launching before the MVP even exists. It will be the major criteria in 2018 for any new successful crypto project to achieve real success. The article went further. It made reference to MLP – the minimal lovable product. The distinction was charming. What happens when you first get inside a site? You see the frosting. It can be quite beautiful but the real value come from the taste of the filling. Think of someone all dressed up in gorgeous clothes ready for a big night out on the town…but then see what happens when too much champagne is drunk in the limo. The interior wrecks the image. The reverse is also true for those with a heart of gold but hidden inside a scruffy suit. In order to have a MLP, you must give some attention to the frosting but focus on the all those sweet layers of cake. Crypto society is allowing those who do not fit the molds of geek-in-mum’s-basement or MIT engineer or mogul extraordinaire, to be running the show. Leaders are emerging from all countries and backgrounds with one single common theme – making blockchain work for them. Lesson 15 – Break the mold and just make it work 1) Finished legal disclaimers 2) Finished Home page 3) Updated security protection 4) Watched Aantonop ….again. 5) Read a very sexist commentary on crypto leaders It kinda feels like a roller coaster which has been slowly moving up that first big hill, and I am right at the top ready to go over at full speed. My keyboard cannot keep up with my mind. There are butterflies co-existing with the naysayers. There are strangers who are volunteering to make all this happen and I cannot wait to shout its completion. See you tomorrow. bodyToday has been spent on content creation. It is rewarding to see all those words in cyberspace. I know it will help people achieve their goals. There is a little too much usage of the delete button. The words don’t flow as expected but that is normal when writing so I just keep typing away. If I try to make it perfect then it won’t get done at all, so I am just trying to get an A-. I also decided to hold up alone inside today with the doors closed. Thankfully the rain and wind were super strong so a warm fireplace and a few coffees kept me concentrated without many interruptions. Yesterday, I know I needed to vent a bit before I could feel a bit of acceptance for the situation. No more wasted energies on battles that will not matter in four weeks’ time. The countdown is on. I am the only one who will ever know all of the choices being made right now so I just need to do the best I can. Lesson 14 – Keep the finish line in sight 1) Created loads of content 2) Tested readability of a new font 3) Finished TAG definitions for user roles 4) Found a solution to a possible future issue – prevention is always good 5) Watch ETH pass $700 I know I am passed the half way mark. It feels good to know that I have made it this far. If I had tried to do things as just one big to do list, then I know I would still be stuck on the first thing. Making the decision to do an action report really does help. I can’t write down everything because too much is still a secret but in my coded way, I am reporting to myself. I am my biggest fan but I am also my hardest judge. Whatever happens, I am the only one who needs to know what it really takes to get it done. See you tomorrow. bodyRoadblocks come in all shapes in sizes. When they are located in your own house then you have a constant reminder of all the things that are not going well with your project. Perhaps some leeway can be given for those who just are not disruptive enough to understand the crypto space, but sometimes you must tell them to shut up and close the door. While working on my crypto project, I have had to do a lot of explaining. Some people are very respective even if they don’t quite get it but others are spewing garbage which disrupts all those positive vibes in my private head space. Another cup of coffee is not the answer either. I may have to find a different location all together to make this thing work and that is twisting my brain. For the next few days, I must put together as much content as possible and get the project opened to the first layer of membership access. The end of the year is coming and many things have already been finished. This is good. In order to push hard, each remaining item is being prioritized and I am forcing myself into attack mode. It is not the way I wanted the project to come about but I feel I have no choice. Lesson 13: Not everyone wants to come along for the ride. 1. Found a technical bug in the Membership Services platform which I reported to the creators 2. Finished the User Guides 3. Deleted all the filler posts, comments and testing pages 4. Reviewed multiple Beginner level resources to create a user friendly Cheat Sheet 5. Took a lot of deep breaths If others are not letting you be who you want to be, then don’t try to change them or lose energy trying to fight those battles. Focus on what you are creating. Keep your energy close to your heart. Believe in your truth no matter what. https://steemit.com/crypto/@coach.kelea/day-12-the-non-enjoyment-of-finishing-the-first-part

bodyA lesson I learned a long time ago, is that the joy of finishing something is never as blissful as what is felt during the journey. This is not something which is obvious while growing up and it can really throw people off their game. As a coach and an athlete, I see it all the time. There is so much work involved in reaching a level of performance, that when the magic number appears on the scoreboard, the resulting release equates to a numbing full body fatigue. Perhaps you first get to have a victory lap, but I can honestly verify that quickly following is an unsettling denouement. Yesterday, I finished the site skeleton. All links and plugins were co-existing. Everything had a logical flow. And I felt positively empty. So, knowing what was going on, I did what any cool disruptor would do… shower and jammies and two episodes of Elementary. Please note I am in Europe and I am a season behind – so no plot info I beg you. Then I went to bed. Then I couldn’t sleep. This pause in the action between finishing Part One of the Skeleton and then beginning Part Two of Content Creation was very funny. I was so exhausted but it turned out that only four hours was enough to recharge. While tossing and turning, my mind came up with what can only be described as brilliance. I was so excited to figure out if it was possible that I barely got an hour of sleep. This morning, I was able to create something which makes me smile every time I think of it. I hope that users will find it unique and that it will entice them into coming back for more. Lesson 12 - Don’t rest on the finish line. Find another race as soon as you can. 1) Finished website skeleton 2) Finalised user registration details 3) Made User intro page 4) Made site Sticky with info guide 5) Debated hotly some security ideals with the Core team The biggest decision to make when beginning a project, is to figure out what kind of a person you wish to be while striving to finish it. The photo finish never captures the struggle to get there. If it does not seem likeable, then the prize at the end of journey is not worth. The ends never justify the means if you can’t enjoy all the steps to get there. See you tomorrow. Kelea https://steemit.com/crypto/@coach.kelea/day-11-efficient-rejection

bodyThere have been many changes in the past 11 days. I guess it is more of an evolution of how I am making decisions concerning this crypto project. Whereas before I would take a considerable amount of time before accepting or rejecting some WP functionality, I am now making choices in a matter of minutes. It is not because I feel rushed rather I am becoming more clear on all objectives and what is truly necessary. For whatever project you have chosen, I encourage you to take time at the beginning to examine what is at the core and reflect every day to make sure you are maintaining that core. Use your notebook to keep track of what options are respecting that core. As you move forward, the decisions will become easier and easier because they are simply logical. Much of the previous delays have been due to fuzzy thinking. I assure you that with clarity comes true progress. Today there were two more plugin options which I requested from the two creators. Those options are currently not available but I decided to ask for them to be added and perhaps they will be included on the next updates too. I have also begun a Wish List. The objective of this week is to finish the shell and continue with content creation. During this journey I am discovering many options which are not necessary right now but could be extremely interesting in the near future. I need to understand more of what my users will need and that means I must wait until 30 days of activity before deciding. Patience. Lesson 11 – Keep focused on the current deadline and let the dreamy stuff wait for Phase 2 1) Installed a flagging plugin for content with user feedback 2) Created a Sticky Post which can be modified for alerts 3) Requested two plugin add-ons which are being considered by the creators 4) Found a major resource of cool materials which I can share with my users 5) Rejected 3 options which did not keep core consistent with planned objectives The original frustration has evaporated because I know how much I am doing each day to resolve the situation. No matter how many hours have been spent in front of this screen, it will never feel worse than to have remained where I was and to have never started this. See you tomorrow. "body": "There have been many changes in the past 11 days. I guess it is more of an evolution of how I am making decisions concerning this crypto project. Whereas before I would take a considerable amount of time before accepting or rejecting some WP functionality, I am now making choices in a matter of minutes. It is not because I feel rushed rather I am becoming more clear on all objectives and what is truly necessary.\n\nFor whatever project you have chosen, I encourage you to take time at the beginning to examine what is at the core and reflect every day to make sure you are maintaining that core. Use your notebook to keep track of what options are respecting that core. As you move forward, the decisions will become easier and easier because they are simply logical. Much of the previous delays have been due to fuzzy thinking. I assure you that with clarity comes true progress.\n\nToday there were two more plugin options which I requested from the two creators. Those options are currently not available but I decided to ask for them to be added and perhaps they will be included on the next updates too.\n\nI have also begun a Wish List. The objective of this week is to finish the shell and continue with content creation. During this journey I am discovering many options which are not necessary right now but could be extremely interesting in the near future. I need to understand more of what my users will need and that means I must wait until 30 days of activity before deciding. Patience.\n\nLesson 11 – Keep focused on the current deadline and let the dreamy stuff wait for Phase 2\n\n1)\tInstalled a flagging plugin for content with user feedback\n2)\tCreated a Sticky Post which can be modified for alerts\n3)\tRequested two plugin add-ons which are being considered by the creators\n4)\tFound a major resource of cool materials which I can share with my users\n5)\tRejected 3 options which did not keep core consistent with planned objectives\n\nThe original frustration has evaporated because I know how much I am doing each day to resolve the situation. No matter how many hours have been spent in front of this screen, it will never feel worse than to have remained where I was and to have never started this.\n\nSee you tomorrow.\nKelea\n\nhttps://steemit.com/crypto/@coach.kelea/day-10-polishing-the-beast",

bodyIt seems that the little finicky bits are the most rewarding. There is certainly a struggle in finding the CSS code which covers that specific line or spacing detail. As of now, I have one widget remaining which will not get into place. It seems to be a padding issue but I cannot find the right line to edit. Tomorrow will be a clearer head. The weekend was full of coding challenges. For someone like me who did only a basic computer science course at Uni, all of this learning has been thanks to the online posts and forums. A big thank you to everyone who has ever had similar questions and was helpful enough to ask. To all those kind souls out there who spend their extra minutes answering newbie questions or actually have full-time Help Desk support roles – you are wonderful. Whenever I get stuck, I remember the IT Crowd. It was a UK series which explained the main solution to all IT issues… “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” Mostly, the issues have been relating to plugins not cooperating with one another. Today was another day in which I had to delete a plugin and its paid add-on because it was interfering with the major plugin. It is all about prioritizing the options which the future users will need the most without causing me to babysit the flags and errors popping into my inbox. Lesson 10: Keep the true mission as the guide to everything else 1) made CSS changes without screwing up the whole thing 2) installed security check for everything on the site 3) found a way to help members share info globally 4) started feeling calmer about the project as it is almost ready to do what is supposed to do 5) discovered blueberries on Frosted Flakes with Almond milk tastes good There is a point in a race when you know that you will finish. All that hard work has combined into something of which you can feel proud. I am at that point. It is very cool. Hope that your project is going well too. See you tomorrow.
