body<html> <p>Maybe you've been reading headlines esuch as 'OMFG - Facebook Is Integrating Cryptocurrencies!' and maybe in the comments of those articles you've been seeing people speculate over which coin they're going to use.</p> <p>Firstly, let's look at what Mark Zuckerberg actually said.</p> <p>"Every year I take on a personal challenge to learn something new. I've visited every US state, run 365 miles, built an AI for my home, read 25 books, and learned Mandarin.I started doing these challenges in 2009. That first year the economy was in a deep recession and Facebook was not yet profitable. We needed to get serious about making sure Facebook had a sustainable business model. It was a serious year, and I wore a tie every day as a reminder.Today feels a lot like that first year. The world feels anxious and divided, and Facebook has a lot of work to do -- whether it's protecting our community from abuse and hate, defending against interference by nation states, or making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent. My personal challenge for 2018 is to focus on fixing these important issues. We won't prevent all mistakes or abuse, but we currently make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools. If we're successful this year then we'll end 2018 on a much better trajectory. This may not seem like a personal challenge on its face, but I think I'll learn more by focusing intensely on these issues than I would by doing something completely separate. These issues touch on questions of history, civics, political philosophy, media, government, and of course technology. I'm looking forward to bringing groups of experts together to discuss and help work through these topics. For example, one of the most interesting questions in technology right now is about centralization vs decentralization. A lot of us got into technology because we believe it can be a decentralizing force that puts more power in people's hands. (The first four words of Facebook's mission have always been "give people the power".) Back in the 1990s and 2000s, most people believed technology would be a decentralizing force. But today, many people have lost faith in that promise. With the rise of a small number of big tech companies — and governments using technology to watch their citizens — many people now believe technology only centralizes power rather than decentralizes it. <strong>There are important counter-trends to this --like encryption and cryptocurrency -- that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people's hands</strong>. But they come with the risk of being harder to control. <strong>I'm interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services</strong>. This will be a serious year of self-improvement and I'm looking forward to learning from working to fix our issues together."</p> <p><br></p> <p>So... he wants to <em>learn </em>how 'best to use them'.&nbsp;</p> <p>Does that mean he's integrating litecoin into Facebook? No. Ripple? Still no.</p> <p>He's thinking about how best to implement cryptocurrency into Facebook. That is all. :)</p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p> </html>

bodyNice to meet you too! :D By remnants I'm referring to tools, machines... things that very obviously could be built by hand/slavery. I mean, today we have massive cranes, tractors, giant trucks as big as buildings working out at mining sites, giant drills digging tunnels, and more. I don't understand where all this stuff is now. That's not even bringing up the billions of cars we have. This stuff should be getting found in caves, fossilized in rocks, buried beneath the earth, etc. That's what I'm having trouble getting my head around.

bodyThere are actually no shortage of completely unexplainable monuments and buildings all around the world such as the many temples or any of the pyramids ... we just cannot equal or explain how they were built - clearly they were made by a superior civilisation far older than our own. great to meet you - thanks for stopping by :D

bodyWhy are there so few remnants of these ancient civilizations left over? We find fossils of dinosaurs everywhere, yet only a few hints of ancient technology. Was it because ancient civilisations used more natural materials that would decay over time (today's equivalent being biodegradable materials)? That would kind of make sense seeing as they're advanced, as opposed to us who just pollute the envionment endlessly.

bodyI know right! Baby Boomers were corrupted... They were simply bought out by the system, and convinced to send their kids into the meat grinder... And once they had so much to lose, they were afraid of reverting to a world like before WW2. They were shocked by their parents in many ways... But they forgot so much about how the world actually is... They just thought they knew everything... And acted recklessly... Whatever, what is done is done. And of course some of the Baby Boomers **_were absolute fucking legends_**... There's no doubt. Really really inspiring individuals came from that generation. But as things progressed, it all got a bit out of control I suppose... And this article is really just a psychological experiment at expressing the psychic energy, more than anything else. My parents were baby boomers, and this is honestly something I would feel ready to confidently say at their face at this age. I totally agree with everything you said... Oh and keep buying your avocadoes lol. It's a crime how they are pricing them, but we have to keep eating them! They're too frickin' good! I also hope you will get a new stereo soon! Get your money into crypto first, and then get your stereo! Hahaha :) Thanks for stopping by and reading! <3 Xx I thoroughly appreciated, enjoyed and valued your rant :)

bodyAs a GenX I feel pretty screwed by the previous generation as well. I was told to 'harden up', 'work hard and you'll be able to live comfortably', etc. I'm getting near forty now and have watched my chances of living as comfortably as my parents fade away into hopes of finding money buried somewhere. At least then I'll be able to buy a damn house or an apartment with a chance of paying it off before I'm too old and senile to work effectively enough to earn money. When I'm told that I should stop buying avacado on toast for breakfast, I become furious. I save everything I can and only spend money on what I can re-sell again later or invest. When I say "my stereo is broken, and no, I haven't replaced it yet" my parents assume it's because I am simply too lazy to get around to it. The fact of the matter is that I get home at 7:30 at night, make some food, and then freeze in my crappy unheated apartment as I sit under a blanket refusing to spend money on a stereo when I should be putting it into stocks or a small business or ANYTHING that will help me get ahead. /rant :)

bodyIf you're a long-term holder of Bitcoin... or even someone who has invested in Bitcoin recently, then you probably feel like you've been waiting for the Lightning Network upgrade for an eternity. Afterall, altcoins are quickly being adopted and filling the need for currencies with fast transaction times and low fees, making Bitcoin feel like its less practical than it once was. How will Bitcoin ever become adopted by commercial businesses and customers if transactions are long and expensive? In turn, how will the price of Bitcoin continue to rise when there are so many other alternatives out there apparently able to do a better job? This doesn't just concern investors, but it also concerns those who want a decentralized cryptocurrency to replace or at least work as an alternative to fiat currencies issued by banks and governments. It feels like a lot of doom and gloom on the Bitcoin front. ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmT4RLREZCAoU5iaV8RFgwm3SveacY64mh88x3gvCTNreu/image.png) It occurred to me yesterday that maybe the delay is actually a good thing. Okay, 'good' might be a too stronger word. How about "not that bad". Let me explain. If you're a seasoned crypto investor, you've probably heard (or read) this saying a million times: "Buy the rumor, sell the news." It's a saying that has proven on multiple occasions to be how traders are frequently behaving. When a crypto coin says it's going to do something special soon, people buy up, and as soon as the upgrade or news is out, people sell again. It's counter-intuitive in a way, but that's the crypto market. Currently, the rumor for Bitcoin is that the Lightning Network upgrade is coming, and once it does, fees will drop significantly and transactions will become near instantaneous. What are the other announcements then? What happens after that? Well, as far as I can see, this is the only significant upgrade that I can see in the near future for Bitcoin. Sure, once Bitcoin is usable for fast and cheap transactions we might start to see announcements from big companies saying they'll accept Bitcoin as a payment option but relies on big businesses actually doing that. Further, the increasing price of Bitcoin has already proven that it's not a payment option a lot of people are willing to use yet, due to its volatility. It's going to take a while longer for that price to stabilize. It's this lack of announcements that I think (this is just my opinion of course) that a drawn-out implementation of the Lightning Network might actually be a good thing. As long as there are rumors Bitcoin will become cheaper and faster, there will be people buying the rumor. Further, let's not forget that Bitcoin has a lot of talented developers and that professional software development done correctly should be thoroughly tested before being used on a wide scale by millions of users. Bitcoin's market cap is currently $256,988,841,900... which is a lot of money dependant on the software being reliable and bug-free. For these reasons, I'm starting to think that a delayed Lightning upgrade might be okay. Not great, just okay.
