| body | In this video in Q&A form I'm going over some example of decentralised systems and on how and why many applications becomes centralised. Also trying to give my perspective on what's blockchain role in modern generation of decentralised protocols. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnD02hMHNcw **tl;dr** You don't need blockchain or dApps to create nice decentralised protocol. There are lots of examples for that (email, jabber, torrent ...). However cryptocurrencies might help to create better incentives for decentralised protocols to be sustainable. And you do need blockchain for cryptocurrencies. |

| title | Decentralised protocols with embedded crypto payments is what we need, not Dapps on Ethereum or EOS |
| body | There are a lot of fundamental reasons why people are not really using Dapps. Jimmy Song in his videos quite well explains them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykyd4iRi5yc DAPPS (smart contracts/apps on Ethereum blockchain) has a lot of problems: - Usually they are not really decentralised (because of centralised team behind them). - They are expensive to use (because blockchains generally are extremely hard to scale). - People usually don't care if it's centralised or decentralised, event for tokens. - Smart contracts and decentralised protocols in general are quite hard to update (because immutability is one of main selling points for blockchains). However I do believe that we need more decentralised services. Email, Torrent, Jabber, WEB itself, thats examples of awesome decentralised protocols. Crypto currencies like bitcoin (decentralised programmable money) can add a lot of value and incentive into building new generation of decentralised applications (don't confuse with Dapps). Just imagine how Torrent would look like if it would have build-in bitcoin support (e.g. via Lightning) or if it would have own token (nice article on that: https://medium.com/@jbackus/what-if-bittorrent-had-a-token-13d62a590aa7). Or let's imagine that a new decentralised file sharing service occur, where network participants would be paid in bitcoin for file storage and bandwidth. "title": "Decentralised protocols with embedded crypto payments is what we need, not Dapps on Ethereum or EOS",
"body": "There are a lot of fundamental reasons why people are not really using Dapps. Jimmy Song in his videos quite well explains them.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykyd4iRi5yc\n\nDAPPS (smart contracts/apps on Ethereum blockchain) has a lot of problems:\n\n- Usually they are not really decentralised (because of centralised team behind them).\n- They are expensive to use (because blockchains generally are extremely hard to scale).\n- People usually don't care if it's centralised or decentralised, event for tokens.\n- Smart contracts and decentralised protocols in general are quite hard to update (because immutability is one of main selling points for blockchains).\n\nHowever I do believe that we need more decentralised services. Email, Torrent, Jabber, WEB itself, thats examples of awesome decentralised protocols. Crypto currencies like bitcoin (decentralised programmable money) can add a lot of value and incentive into building new generation of decentralised applications (don't confuse with Dapps).\n\nJust imagine how Torrent would look like if it would have build-in bitcoin support (e.g. via Lightning) or if it would have own token (nice article on that: https://medium.com/@jbackus/what-if-bittorrent-had-a-token-13d62a590aa7). Or let's imagine that a new decentralised file sharing service occur, where network participants would be paid in bitcoin for file storage and bandwidth. It could even kill giants like Dropbox or YouTube.\n\nI have also posted article on Medium on how and why decentralised systems step by step becomes centralised and how bitcoin (or some other crypto currency) may change that. \n\nhttps://blog.goodaudience.com/decentralised-systems-on-the-internet-the-latest-fashion-trend-4865b813cd29",

| title | EOS don't have true decentralisation but I still see big future for him |
| body | After reading ["The Gloves Are Off: EOS A Case of Dishonesty, Ignorance and Stupidity"](https://steemit.com/eos/@heresys/the-gloves-are-off-eos-a-case-of-dishonesty-ignorance-and-stupidity) I decided to give my opinion on EOS. **Centralization** - it's not only about who can control network. It's also about how easy it is to censure, regulate or close it. Having so small group of players with such big power (BPs have much more power in EOS than miners in Bitcoin or Ethereum). Another thing is that Block. One owns 10% of tokens. And actually uses them to vote. At the moment only 30% of tokens are staked to vote. so Block. One has 1/3 of decision power! Additionally they have authority. Same as Ethereum community is listening to Vitalik, EOS community is listening to Dan. And finally, how about exchanges. Can they vote in name of their users? What if they will? Sounds scary. **Bugs** - bugs can happen everywhere. Early days in Bitcoin there were critical bugs. But stop for a moment. We're talking about 4 billion dollars network. We didn't see any critical bugs in Bitcoin for years. Even when its market cap was significantly smaller than current market cap of EOS. Because of quite big level of centralisation of decisions, Block.one and EOS community naturally went into fast iterations and ofter network updates. If in bitcoin these days someone would find critical bugs, that would be huge. But for EOS, similary as for software run by big centralised corporations (Google, Apple, Microsoft), having bugs is not that big problem. They don't have to upgrade thousands nodes around the globe). **go HODL away into another platforms?** - EOS is not for HODLers. Ok, but in same time "you must lock up your tokens to vote". So if I vote, then HODLing and waiting "until the cows come home" is ok? Or how? **Possibility of loosing account is very scary.** EOS supporters are forgetting about very important feature of blockchain for being PERMISSIONLESS. In traditional blockchains we don't need permission to use them in any way we want. Only math and code sets limits. Not people. In EOS people (those who are BPs) decide which account to lock, which app can run on network etc. EOS is not Bitcoin --------- ... and don't have to be. EOS is not decentralised and permission less in a way we used to see in Bitcoin or Ethereum. From other hand it don't have to. Control of most of ICO tokens are owned by central authority. Startup founders decides which tokens to accept in their products, when to accept them. For such "decentralised centralised" apps EOS should work well. It gives cheap transactions, better speed, audit-ability and transparency. That's totally enough. In many cases you don't need true decentralisation. You just need good platform for running your dApps. |

Or how? \n\n**Possibility of loosing account is very scary.**\nYou forgetting about very important feature of blockchain for being PERMISSIONLESS. You don't need permission to use it. In any way. Only math and code sets limits. Not people. In EOS people (those who are BPs) decide which account to lock, which app can run on network etc. \n\n\n\nEOS is not Bitcoin \n---------\n\n... and don't have to be.\n\nEOS is not decentralised and permission less in a way we used to see in Bitcoin or Ethereum. From other hand it don't have to. Control of most of ICO tokens are owned by central authority. Startup founders decides which tokens to accept in their products, when to accept them. \n\nFor such \"decentralised centralised\" apps EOS should work well. \n\nIt gives cheap transactions, better speed, audit-ability and transparency. That's totally enough. In many cases you don't need true decentralisation. You just need good platform for running your dApps.",

| title | Let's talk about token standards |
| body | Most of ICOs are using `ERC20` tokens. We have more that 500 tokens with 25 billion USD market cap! But there are a few really ugly things about it. - You can't really easily use it in your smart-contracts. - There is known bug with allowance. - It's impossible to recover it from smart-contracts if you accidentally send tokens there. Many people don't know that there are a few more nice proposals: `ERC223`,`ERC827`, `ERC721`, `ERC777` and now, I'm also proposing `ERC965` for have one more nice extension which I needed. But first let's describe shortly each of mentioned standards. ERC223 ---------- More that a year ago, ethereum classic developer Dexaran proposed [ERC223](https://github.com/Dexaran/ERC223-token-standard) which should solve some of ERC20 problems (e.g. possibility to use tokens in smart contracts without doing two transactions). The problem of ERC223 is that transaction will fail if receiving smart-contract don't support it (e.g. multi sig wallet). Also some exchanges have problem with supporting two `transfer` functions with same name but different signatures (amount of parameters). Vitalik Buterin is also not a big fan of ERC223 because he is proposing in future to convert all accounts into smart contracts. In such case ERC223 token transactions will almost always fail. ERC777 ---------- Recently there was proposed new advanced token standard [ERC777](https://github.com/jacquesd/ERC777/blob/master/eip-777.md) I do believe that ERC777 is way to go, that's why I used this standard for my own time token [JaroCoin](http://jarocoin.com). Please watch video to learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcqhryzGTy0 ERC965 ---------- `ERC777` solves almost all currently known issues with tokens. There is only one thing which lack in there - possibility to transfer tokens without paying for gas. Just a few days ago on crypto meetup one of participants was complaining that he can't move his golem out of Jaxx. I asked him if he has ethers there, and obvious answer was NO. Let's take another example. JaroCoin users just want to book my time using JARO token but to do that they would need to pay for gas. That would mean that they are required to always store some amount of eth in their wallet. I would be happy to pay for gas for them but natively it's not possible. That's why I have proposed ERC777 extension - [ERC965 Pay via cheque](https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/issues/965). With this extension it's possible to implement function in wallet which would not send tx directly into blockchain. Instead it would sign it and send to some king of proxy which would persist tx into blockchain and pay for gas. I'm glad that this problem meets other people needs and that issue is already discussed amount Ethereum community. If you have any proposals on how to make `Send by Checque` even better, please join discussion on GitHub: https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/issues/965 |

In such case ERC223 token transactions will almost always fail. \n\nERC777\n----------\n\nRecently there was proposed new advanced token standard [ERC777](https://github.com/jacquesd/ERC777/blob/master/eip-777.md) \n\nI do believe that ERC777 is way to go, that's why I used this standard for my own time token [JaroCoin](http://jarocoin.com). \n\nPlease watch video to learn more:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcqhryzGTy0\n\nERC965\n----------\n\n`ERC777` solves almost all currently known issues with tokens. There is only one thing which lack in there - possibility to transfer tokens without paying for gas.\n\nJust a few days ago on crypto meetup one of participants was complaining that he can't move his golem out of Jaxx. I asked him if he has ethers there, and obvious answer was NO. \n\nLet's take another example. Instead it would sign it and send to some king of proxy which would persist tx into blockchain and pay for gas.\n\n\nI'm glad that this problem meets other people needs and that issue is already discussed amount Ethereum community. \n\nIf you have any proposals on how to make `Send by Checque` even better, please join discussion on GitHub: https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/issues/965",
